You can't eat at McDonald's for that!!! Food came out in short order also. Service was friendly and great The only drawback was parking was hard to find. I found this restaurant About two years ago when I was hunting for a family restaurant that I could eat a good healthy breakfast I stop by and was never sorry the staff is outstanding willing to help you in anyway they can. The place is pretty much an old time diner and the food is just like my grandma used to fix! I went there Saturday and had their meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes and pickled beets. Outstanding the meatloaf fries put like my family used to fix at home and I think it was a lot better than Cracker Barrel. This is the first real dinner I've had because I've always eaten the egg omelette with getta and cheese fried potatoes with onions. Stop in on a Wednesday and you'll find me there again, some Saturdays highly recommend it.! The restaurant is always clean and reminds me of the old mom and Pop restaurants. I eat breakfast here at least once a month and take my dog to a groomer close by and while she has been groomed, I go to Lana's for breakfast. I have always been treated with the upmost respect and the food has always been excellent. Now it's not a ruby steakhouse or something like that, it's just a good old country restaurant that I love The service is great and the restaurant is clean. For those old enough to remember, after a night of fun the only answer is a good "greasy spoon" place for some eggs and potatoes and coffee. Today, I'm surrounded by fancy places with menus like books- $20 avocado toast and French toast stuffed with all kinds of sugary stuff. Thank God for Lana's. Breakfast the way it should be. I had 3 eggs, perfectly cooked potatoes (real, honest to god chunked potatoes- not those preprocessed preformed shreds) and a slab of ham that hung over the edge of the plate. The eggs were perfect. Over easy meant runny yolk and there wasn't a bit of grease char on the eggs. Fully cooked all the way through but the yolks ran into the potatoes to create the perfect breakfast plate. The group also had Biscuits &Gravy. Huge, handmade biscuits as big as your fist- split and smothered in pepper gravy. Swimming in gravy. Drowned in gravy. So much gravy. You get the idea. Pancakes as big as a dinner plate. Grits. Rye toast. I could go on. Everything was less that $10 a plate. My 3 egg-ham-potatoes & toast was $7.75. Service was fast and pleasant. Ketchup and Hot Sauce without asking. These ladies have be there awhile and knew their business. We left there stuffed with some of the best chow I've had in a long time. This isn't fine dining. Too many breakfast places try to act like that. I'll take this place for breakfast over anyplace else within 100 miles. I'm so happy wonderful places like Lana's still exist read more

We have been trying all the spots in Bellevue, Newport, Covington, etc and so far this is one of my favorites. It's simple, with really reasonable pricing and plentiful food with each order. And please remember smoking hasn't been in here since 2020. We also got a parking spot right in front, free. There were a handful open around us and we were here on a Wednesday morning around 9. There were many "regulars" when we were there and I loved that and felt like we were in for a good meal....and we were. I couldn't decide what to get and wanted protein but am sick of eggs and felt like a burger but also wanted pancakes.... so indecisive . I was appreciative that I could get two kids meals. I ended up taking most of the burger back to my kiddo and she loved it. It was a good homemade burger and the fries were great! All was hot- like, right off the grill/fryer hot... so good. The pancakes were good but next time I will likely go with an omelet. many people around me had an omelet and they looked awesome! My husband had the veggie omelet and it was really good.. My daughter and I went here because she claimed they had the best liver and onions. Well, maybe not the best, but they certainly were very good. Liver and onions were not on the menu, but the waitress informed us they always had them. Looking around, most of the other diners had biscuits and gravy, they must be the local favorite. One thing I love about Monmouth street is the plethora of diners. Lana's was on of my most recent stops and I was not disappointed. The space is clean with plenty of seating, even on the weekends there's not much of a wait. The menu has the classic breakfast options. Tried Lana's Diner for the first time. Time of our visit came just after their lunch rush. It was obvious they had been busy and at the moment of our arrival, there was only one server waiting tables. While there was a little wait, it was understandable why. The one server, though overwhelmed, did not allow the circumstance to rattle her or keep her from pushing on to take care of customers. I was impressed by how she worked her job without letting her job work her. Her attitude remained polite and helpful to those she was serving. Food was very good and was presented as quickly as was reasonably possible. It was good service considering the circumstance. I give Lana's 5 Stars We will be back!! The servers are personable and are on top of their game :) One morning I was dining in and family of regulars came with a sad child. The owner who was cooking at the time came out and asked him what was going on and the child wanted Ihop instead. The owner went out of his way in order to put a smile on the child's face. This was a no frills, old school diner on Monmouth Street in Newport. It has a full menu but from what I can tell seems to have a focus on the breakfast side. I didn't get a specific meal and instead picked out a few things from the breakfast menu that sounded good. The first thing I tried was pancakes which like the restaurant was no frills but very delicious. They were cooked to perfection and had a good amount of airiness. Throw in some butter and syrup and it was fantastic. I also got some biscuits and gravy which came with two good sized biscuits and a tremendous white gravy. It didn't have a ton of black pepper but it had enough to make it a delicious gravy. I also got some goetta which I think was the Gliers brand which is not a bad choice. Again it was cooked to perfection which in this case was crispy just like goetta should be. And lastly I got a couple pieces of bacon which make everything better and certainly did here. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the prices were very affordable. There are more spectacular places to eat out there but you'd be hard pressed to find one with a better total package than this. read more

This place has great reviews but my experience wasn't very nice. I arrived at 7am for a before work breakfast. Server was not polite at all (ignored me even though the place wasn't busy and threw my food at me after an unnecessarily long wait). I was going dry on my water and almost didn't tip her due to the experience. I gave her a bit because towards the end of my meal she finally got around to refilling my water (when there was no rush or wait). The smoking inside also really bothered me. read more

My Yelptern and I discovered this place on our search for a great local diner, and much to our surprise this place wasn't on Yelp yet even after having been open since 1988. So we figured even more reason to check it out! We were hesitant at first, but once we saw the diner style seating and the greasy kitchen window we knew this place was legit. Our server was very attentive and treated us like family. I think we were the youngest people in the place by two generations. What we had (yes we are gluttons) - Western Omelette: They sautéed the veggies first! Huzzah! Greasy, buttery delicious! - Biscuits and Gravy: Surprise! Someone knows how to season gravy? WIN! - Pancakes: Not my cup of tea. They weren't buttermilk and were a little too fluffy for my taste, but Katie liked them. - Homefries: Holy mother. Delicious whole slices of potatoes fried to perfection. What's not to love? Our total bill? 18 bucks. Winner winner chicken dinner! Wait that reminds me I have to go back for their chicken dinner... Probably because everyone in there was at least 60 years old. At least. Which is how you know it's got some freaking awesome breakfast food at cheap prices. So I'm definitely not complaining. Cindy's Western Omelette was unreal. When I go back, that's what I'm getting. Oh, with a side of biscuits and gravy again. 'Cause those were good too. This place is neat. My first job was in a greasy spoon-type restaurant, and this brought back memories. Based on Yelp reviews (and what my friend ordered - he's a regular) I got the western omelet, sub bacon for whatever sausage they were going to put in it. Tasty. I could tell that many who eat here are regulars. Like, daily-regulars. Seriously. And this is the bread n' butter of greasy spoon/local restaurants like this. Unfortunately, the memories of the greasy spoon also came with the smell of smoking. Being that I now live in a 'non-smoking' county, this was a little surprising (thanks for the tip on Yelp! right before I walked in, though, Cindy G.) So, will I return? Lana's, my Sunday morning favorite. The food is very classic American breakfast and lunch options. The service is quick and attentive. The restaurant, however, is a smoking restaurant which I had forgotten even still exist until coming in. This is my only issue with this place because it is so small that it is impossible to separate into sections of smoking and non, so the whole restaurant can be very smokey, but most of the time it is usually bearable. The prices are amazing and the two of us can get out of there for under 20 dollars with drinks which is pretty good. It was Sunday morning and me and my friend were in the mood for a good breakfast. There were lot's of basic options that came to mind but I knew if we walked down Monmouth Street we would find a nice local family joint that would hit the spot. Bingo!! Lana's Country Diner. I had walked by but never ventured in but today was the day. There were plenty of people with the same idea but we were able to settle right in to a booth and seconds later we had hot coffee in hand. We stuck with the basics; eggs for both, bacon for him and sausage for me, home fried potatoes and biscuits. We almost ordered a side of pancakes but common sense kicked in and we decided we might have enough with the choices we made. The meal arrived quickly with no major fanfare and it was a pleasant surprise. We both absolutely enjoyed the crisp bacon, hearty potatoes and amazing sausage. We topped it all off with a biscuit and honey, pure delight! Lana's is Definitely a place I will visit again and might come back for a cheeseburger. My only complaint was the man smoking in the booth behind us. I was surprised because it didn't smell smokey when we arrived and I hope we have non-smokers next time I visit. Enjoy! Great down-home greasy spoon restaurant that serves up stomach filling food. The prices are low and the servers are friendly, fast, and attentive. I had the veggie omelette, toast and coffee. I enjoyed making little omelette sandwiches and drinking a few cups of Joe. I docked a star as it is a place that allows patrons to smoke cigarettes. When will this become a relic of the past?
