Got a tune up for my bike two weeks ago. COST 100$$$$$ for them to do not much. Takes them a week. When I left there was a clicking when I peddled so later that week I went back. They told me I could leave it for 3-4 days so they could do a 'sound analysis' then walked away from me while I stood there. I use my bike to get around town so 3-4 days is brutal. All I wanted for them to do was to look at it and see if it's anything major. Without him looking at it they turned around and left me at the counter. On the way home my breaks started squealing. So much for a tune up. I am NEVER going back here and taking my business somewhere locally owned. read more

I went here for a bike fitting and couldn't be happier with the process and results. They took the time to understand my bike and the issues I was having with it. From there, they helped me problem solve, ordered the necessary parts, and one day later the bike was good to go. The new fit is a huge improvement! Highly recommended. read more

So I was really surprised to read some of the terrible to lukewarm reviews on YELP. Landry's was recommended to me by my roommate, a dedicated/crazy cyclist, and my experience here has been great. I first started picking up some accessories for my mountain bike once I started commuting to work-- fenders, bike lights, etc, and the staff was really helpful. They won't hound you or stalk you while you shop, which I hate, but if you go up and ask for help, they're more than friendly and give good advice even if you're only spending $10 on something small. Over the past few months, I fell in love with my bike, and after a little research, decided to invest in a road bike. Went to the shop to test out some bikes and found the staff to be immensely helpful again-- despite the fact that I'm a newbie and didn't know very much (carbon vs. aluminum, components, etc.), they were very patient in educating me and tried me out on a range of bikes to get the feel for them. I ended up falling in love with a fantastic Specialized bike and couldn't be happier. By the way, the sales staff doesn't work on commission-- they get paid the same whether they sell a $10,000 bike or a $300 bike. read more

I was torn before I wrote this review. On one hand I felt like I had been overcharged for a previous service, but on the other hand, the retail help was outstanding regarding a different problem. I decided to contact the manager and they VERY QUICKLY resolved the problem. Great Service (perfect bike seat fitting with multiple choices and even let me test) Great follow up when a problem arose Can't ask for more from a company. Everyone makes mistake, the great companies are the ones that rectify them. And this mistake wasn't even a clearcut mistake on their part, it might have been interpretation mistakes on my part. I had a TERRIBLE experience at the Comm Ave location. Not only was the repair guy (Brian) completely incompetent, but he was arrogant and rude to boot. He should spend less time perfecting his dismissive, hipster attitude and more time learning how to actually fix bikes! I took my bike there to get a flat tire fixed. Brian fixed the flat just fine, but failed to put the wheel back on properly. I asked him about it when I picked the bike up since it didn't look right, but he basically told me not to challenge his bike expertise. Fair enough, I'm no expert on bikes, but it just didn't seem right - the wheel was crooked and this made the chain lack tension. Well, fast forward a couple of days and that same chain came flying off while I was riding, got stuck in the wheel, and flipped me off the bike. I have some bruises and scrapes to show for it, but fortunately nothing worse or I'd be after Landry's with a lawsuit for negligence. There are SO many other bike stores in the Boston area, you'd be wise to steer clear of this one. Not only did they massively screw up what should've been a pretty simple flat tire fix, but their customer service was awful. Like I said, rude and dismissive. I hope they're out of business soon. read more

I took my vintage bike with a failing lower bracket and they did not even look at it declaring that it would be too expensive, even suggesting that I keep riding with the fault and finally throw away the bike when it gets to a point where it can not move anymore. I took the same bike to Salem Cycles that weekend and they fixed it for $50 including spare parts! Even though the staff are friendly and courteous, I was disappointed by this. read more

I like Landry's. I returned three bikes I bought there. NOT because there was anything wrong with them, just because I changed my mind. They were always very nice to me. I would have been very agravated with me by then. When I took in my last bike the very nice dude at the counter was great. Gave me my refund. I told him I ordered Swobo. He was cool about it and really encouraged I use them for maintenance or add ons. If I were them I would have thrown me out the door. But I would totally recommend these guys to friends and I will use them for all my mechanical needs. I found all sales people very helpful. read more

This store is huge and has a good selection of moderately-priced to higher-end bikes. If you're knowledgeable and know what you want, then this place may be what you're looking for. However, I was dissatisfied because the salesperson who helped me didn't listen to what I said I wanted (I said I was looking for a hybrid or entry-level road bike for commuting to school and low-key fun rides and that I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case something happened to the bike, but he instead kept pushing fancier $2000+ road bikes). I really got the sense that he was trying to "work" me for a higher commission. Also, many of the models in the store weren't there in my size, and they took much longer to get into the store than the salesperson said (said it would take about 3 days, instead it took more than a week). read more

Holy bananas! What a rip off. We shipped our bikes from Florida out of our local bike shop to Landry's. When we picked up the bikes we were charged $90 PER BIKE!! to have them re-assembled. What a joke to put handle bars and pedals back on. To ship them back out, they charged us another $70 PER BIKE!! plus shipping (which was miraculously more expensive than shipping them up). The on top of this, they sent our bikes to the wrong address even though I signed a piece of paper assuring they have the correct information (which is surely meant to cover their asses - but worked in our favor). It's interesting to read the reviews here on Landry's. People have had very inconsistent experiences. They are my local shop, so I truly want to support them. For me, I use Landry's for service and rarely buy anything there. They are very expensive, but if you wait for the 20% off winter service deal, it is reasonable. They do excellent service on my bikes (I have a high end road, mountain, tandem, and folding bike). The last 2 years I have put 12,000 miles on the road bike, and when I get it back from Landry's for the annual maintenance, it is like a new bike. They clean everything and only recommend replacing what really has worn out. I do wish the merchandise prices were more reasonable. I would say that they are about 20% more expensive than online (hello Performance). As an example the Assos cream at check out is $26.95, while it is $21.95 just down the street at REI. How annoying is that? Whenever, I point it out to them, they sell it to me for the cheaper price, but continue to sell it at the inflated price at check out. It's too bad, because if I thought of Landry's as being at least normal pricing, I would buy a lot more there. Mark please listen up! On the whole, I like the experience of going to the shop. They are very friendly and helpful. Several of them greet me by name which I really like. (This has never happened at Wheelworks even though I've bought several bikes from them and use to go there all the time). I recommend that give Landry's a try, especially for service. When buying stuff, know how much others are charging and negotiate. read more

I recently bought a helmet here. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable - but not overly aggressive or smothering. The salesperson gave me a few pieces of advice, left me alone to browse for a few minutes, and then came back to check on me. All in all, great shopping experience and I left with a quality product. Preface: I know almost nothing about real cycling. I have a cheap road bike that I ride recreationally (and sometimes to work, if I'm feeling really ambitious). I stopped at Landry's on a whim, looking for a wall-mounting bike rack after striking out at 2 or 3 other stores in the area. Mark helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Trouble struck when I realized that I had walked there, and it would be a very very long walk home trying to carry this bike rack that was taller than I was. Mark took pity on me and VERY graciously offered to drop the rack off at my house, since it was on his way home from work. Moral of the story: Two thumbs up. Mark went out of his way to help me out, even though I wasn't buying a fancy bike or spending a ton of money. Yay kindness. read more

After I wrote this review, the store manager Mark wrote me an email to get the kickstand problem squared away. He refunded my money and offered to adjust the kickstand. I appreciated the outreach and the improved customer service, so I improved my star rating. Also, my previous review was based on one interaction with one store employee. So, who knows? Maybe this guy was having an off day. Overall I would say this store is not for the price conscious, but if something is weird or you have a question you can find Mark. Based on our email exchange, he's happy to help and concerned about negative customer experiences .... especially if they're posted on Yelp. read more

I visited Landry last week because I had just purchased a bike from craigslist and needed some parts. Specifically I needed handlebars. The bars I rode the bike home with the day before did not fit into my stem. I needed wider bars to be compatible. When I arrive in the store a guy behind the counter working on a bike directed me to the section of the store where I could find bars. This is where the trouble begins. A particularly pompous looking fellow (tall, blonde, glasses) appeared and located the bars that I needed. Great. He walks with me to my bike and on arriving immediately scoffs at it. Since the bars were too small and I needed to get it home I wrapped tape around them to make them fit snug in the stem. For one ride... This guy starts asking me to take a picture as he has never seen something so ridiculous ( I find this hard to believe because I assume he owns a mirror ). He then proceeds to call other bike salesman over to assist him in laughing at it. Before I can say otherwise he begins unscrewing bolts on the stem. I figured whatever. At this point the guy starts asking me where I got the bike and for how much. I told him, and he replied by telling me that they sell the same bike with the same quality components for ten dollars cheaper. Upon further inspection this turned out to be an SE draft with factory components. Over priced and not the same. After what seemed like twenty minutes he tells me that there is now a problem with the stem and I need another one. Desperate to leave this awful place and eager to begin riding my bike I go along with this fellow. He takes around 15 minutes to find a part and then has to have an actual mechanic help him fit the stem. At this point my mood has become increasingly more agitated. Finally this dude gets the piece fitted and then rings me up. He includes a 30 dollar upcharge for his poor screwing and unscrewing. Whatever I thought, maybe this is over and I can go ride. I exit the store and ride for a bit. I arrive at a stop light kind of irritated with my experience. I start to track stand because there is traffic coming. As I move back and forth the entire stem and handlebar assembly falls to the side. Luckily I am an experienced rider and I did not fall. If this had happened during a downhill endeavor it could have been seriously hurt. Long story short mechanics, not pompous salesman, should install bike parts. 30 dollar labor should be 30 dollar labor. Not 30 cent labor. Needless to say I will never go back to Landry. International bike is much better and much more knowledgeable. I really hope I see that guy outside of Landry so I can tell him how much I appreciate the work he did. read more

Landrys is a great store if you're serious about your biking. They have more accessories and bikes than you could ever ask for. Everytime I walk in, I'm greeted by one of the employees asking if I need any help. I have gone in to buy a bike and also just to browse and both times I had a very good experience. The guy who helped me was named Travis and he was very helpful and down-to-earth. He wasn't too overly pushy about selling accessories or anything but he was helpful and answered any questions that I asked. Overall, great store. read more

Terrible quality control on service. I bought an expensive bike there a few years ago. Eventually, it needed service so brought the bike back for a tuneup. They did not tighten the headset screw, so I almost fell while riding the bike away from the store. Today, I paid $150 for another tuneup. The gears rub the chain and wheels are more out of true than when I brought the bike in. They adjusted the gears for no charge, but chain still rubs. They did not fix wheel alignment but offered me to pay more to have that done. When it's time for a new bike, I'll go elsewhere even though they are the closest to me. Stay away. read more

Took my bike there Wednesday evening with a loose seat post. They were very helpful and quickly diagnosed I need a thicker tube. Luckily they had one in stock. However they did not have the seat post bolt in stock. No worries, they'll get it from their other location by Friday, it'll be done by the end of the day. I call them on Friday afternoon, the part didn't arrive, so the repair is pushed out to Tuesday. (?!) I call them Tuesday afternoon, they say it'll be ready by the end of the day and they'll give me a call. Well, it's 6:03pm, no call received, and their phone line is on answering machine... So far it's been 6 days waiting for a part that a) should be on stock in any shop that calls itself a repair shop b) ships within 2 days from Amazon. Edit: they followed up very professionally, and sincerely apologized. The bike was apparently done Tuesday evening but there was some miscommunication. read more

I went in on a Saturday just to do some research when I was in the area. They did a great job of asking questions and listening to what I truly wanted. They helped me figure out what types of bikes I should try riding when I was better dressed for the occasion. I decided to go back the next day (an hour trip by public transportation) because they treated me so well. They let me test ride a few around the block to make sure it was what I wanted. After picking one out they helped me pick out a lock and helmet. I had to wait 30 minutes for them to install the lock mount but there was plenty to do in the area. I haven't had any problems with the bike yet and I will be going back soon for the free 30 day checkup to make sure everything is running smoothly. read more

I stopped in Landry's last Saturday (hot day in mid-June), and the place was swarming. We wandered around for a few minutes before we were greeted by Jeff, who is a star. He clearly knows everything there is to know about bikes-- at one point we asked a question and he said to explain it in detail, he'd have to give us an engineering lesson, which... wow (in a good way)-- and he spent a lot of time explaining everything to us and encouraged me to go on long test rides to make sure I really got a feel for the bikes. He was so nice and patient and I could tell that he really wanted to make sure I got the best bike for me. I did put down a deposit on one that I really liked, but ultimately ended up going with another (also a great ride, but a little better aesthetic). If you're in the market for a bike, Landry's has a great selection and great people! read more

A business is measured by how polite they are when you aren't spending money. I went in just to ask for help with my tires and they helped me and I was on my merry way. Will I return to purchase an air pump and bike lock? Yep. Will I take my bike there if it needs repairs? Yep. Will I buy a bike there when I'm looking for a new one? Yep. Unfriendly staff, very unwilling to help. all they care about is money. i bought a bike worth about $350 and they looked at me like i was crazy. i guess they only value customers who spend thousands of dollars there. and to top it off, they charged me $15 for a shipping box. I've been to Ace Wheelworks at Davis square and they give these boxes for free even if you didn't buy from them. Never going back to this place. there are plenty of better bike stores out there. read more

THIS PLACE IS A HUGE RIP OFF. I REPEAT: THIS PLACE IS A HUGE RIP OFF. I took my brand new bike in, which I assembled myself. I'm an amateur when it comes to bike assembly, so I took it to Landry's thinking they would get it ready. I paid $90 for a ride ready tune up, when I got it back it was clear they had done NOTHING. They charged me a lot of money to do very little, they didn't even do the bare minimum, my tires were still flat and the chain hadn't been greased. If they had at least done that then I might not have noticed that the tires were still misaligned. I REPEAT ONCE MORE: THIS PLACE IS A HUGE RIP OFF DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY TYPE OF BIKE REPAIR. Alternatives would be International Bike Center in Allston or Revolution Bike in JP. I've had good experience with both, the guys at Revolution especially have done great work at low costs. Aside from the shoddy work, the first staff member I spoke to, didn't seem to have any idea where to find certain items in the store, I asked for bike pedals and lights and he wandered around aimlessly, I was instead directed by another customer. read more

So I read the reviews here and was scared to go in this place. First time I was just browsing the bikes. A friendly guy came over and asked me if I needed any help. I told him straight out I wouldn't be buying that day and was just going around and browsing many places. He was still friendly and answered some questions for me. I ended up getting a used bike (couldn't afford brand new, I'm a broke college student) and coming back to buy lights for my bike. The girl at the counter came right over and told me which lights were the best bang for the buck and explained the others. I asked her if she would help me put them on my bike and she said yes and did exactly so. The other two guys there were very nice too. So... I don't know about these other reviews, but both times I've been in there they have been really nice people and very helpful. There you have it. read more

My husband's rear tire broke a spoke and we brought it here to get repaired. He has a Wilier bike with campagnolo on it. After we got the tire back we went for a ride - only to find that the wheel would not spin... After repairing the spoke someone at the shop put the wrong spacers back on, Such that the smallest ring was in contact with the frame. They then attempted to remedy the situtation by inserting a washer. Needless to say the tolerance on bikes like this are SMALL - we ended up taking it to Community Bicyle in the South End who spent a ton of time trying to figure out what was the correct spacer for the problem and after an hour only charged us $20 for his time. My first visit. Warm, welcoming, patient with me asking lots of questions. Knowledgeable about their products. Helpful suggestions, not just trying to push product. I get the feeling these people eat and sleep bikes, and it shows. A palpable feeling of their love of biking. A special nod to Thea. She was a triple A salesperson. She was tremendous in fitting me with a new bike seat and she solved my problem of attaching a bike basket while my headlight still being operable. She was great. I used to take my bikes to International Bicycle until t hey closed up last year. They recommended I used Landry's. Based on their advice, I took my mountain bike for a winter tune up as it needed it badly. I was very happy with the level of service from the the moment I walked in all the way thru to pickup. Everyone was very easy to deal with. The technician was very thorough in explaining the work they will, the cost, duration and warranty. I was pleasantly surprised when they called me to let me know my bike was ready way before it was expected. Basically they were done in 2 business days rather than 4 as originally thought. The quality of work was outstanding...they cleaned everything up to the point where it was shiny and mechanically sound (my old chain and cassette were replaced) as well as truing the wheels. My only knock, albeit as small one, was the parking situation. It was an adventure to find a parking spot on the street on the day I went to drop it off (Saturday). I had a much easier time finding a parking spot close by when I picked it up. Nonetheless, beware that parking availability is very hard to find at this location. Otherwise, I'll be servicing my bikes at Landry's from now on as their service and work overshadows the parking headache. read more

While I typically find Landry's to be more expensive than most bike shops, they completely make up for it with the level of service they provide and the vast knowledge of the staff. I can't speak for their other locations but the Boston location on Comm ave is fantastic. I recently worked with their bike fitting guru, Grady who was a complete master at his art. He was extremely knowledgable and very helpful when working with me to pick out a bike and throughout the extensive fitting process. He went above and beyond to ensure I was completely satisfied with my purchase and I am from here forward a loyal customer of Landy's Boston. read more

I would give them zero stars if possible. Overly expensive. Never bring in a bike for a tune up because they will say you need to change everything on it (for the price of a new one). Staff might be nice, but landry's as a whole tries to take advantage of all the people that own bikes but are not experts on the matter. In a two word summary: STAY AWAY. read more

I've needed to write this review for some time as I have been a devoted customer of Landry's Bicycles for over 15 years. The culture of caring about their customers is evident. The employees are invested in the business and therefore provide quality service. More importantly, however, they are bikers themselves, so they know what they are talking about regarding products and they stand by what they are selling. It has been my experience that they have an ample selection of whatever bike equipment or part I am looking for, they are competitively priced with other shops, and they have always provided special attention to any repair work I have had to bring in. At times their prices may be a bit higher on some items than at the "big box" stores, but I have found that the small difference is well worth it for the superior quality of what they carry as well as their product support and customer service. It has been my experience that all aspects of the Landry Bike service is exemplary, but I must mention the Natick location is my favorite. read more

I've been a cyclist/triathlete in Boston since 1992. I've been to every shop in town...and a bunch outside of town. Let's face it, bike shops tend to be somewhat grungy with a mystery regarding service. Call it snooty, or snotty...take your pick. What a relief when I went into Landry's. The selection is great, whether it's bikes, parts, service, clothing, ect. They seem to have it all. I worked with their tech's for a great bike fit which included some shims, shoes and insoles. I was on a ride when my shifter stopped working. I brought my bike in same day and they replaced the shifter for free. It was ready the next morning. Great service and great people. Definitely recommend going to them for all your services! read more

I came here to buy my wife a bike (a condition to letting me keep a bike I had just purchased (not from Landry's though)) and Alex helped us get a nice Trek FX 7.1. She didn't have it in stock in Boston but they did in Natick so we paid for it and picked it up from Natick the next day. It was a smooth process and we saved $50 since it was TrekFest! I've been back here a few times over the last few days to get helmet/lock/accessories and each person I've come across (sorry for not remembering names!) has been so friendly and helpful. I bought a Kryptonite lock which broke the first day I used it, promising for a lock, right? haha. Went in yesterday where it was promptly exchanged for a brand new one! Just a quick look at the lock and my receipt and I was on my way! Good selection, decent pricing, and great service, keep it up!!! read more
