I had a giant juniper bush across the entire front of the house that was dying and out of control. I knew that it had to go. I also had a crumbling brick garden in the side yard and knew it had to go too. Frank and his team came in and cleaned out my old crappy landscape and put in a beautiful flagstone garden wall staring in the front and going around the side. Plus, all new planting's in the front and kept the planting's in the side garden that I wanted to keep. They did a great job and I couldn't have been more pleased. He was thorough and fast. He gave me recommendations of plants but also worked with what I knew I wanted. After they were done it looked so great I had all the neighbors giving me compliments. Even my in-laws became a new clients. We had such a good experience with Frank, Liz and the entire team that we look forward to our next project together. read more

We worked with this company over the summer to redo our front landscaping and our backyard. For both projects, we came away completely satisfied. It took longer than we wanted to get the work started but we were willing to wait because we had a good feeling about working with Frank, the owner. And we were right -- from working through different design ideas to picking the stones and the plants, all of it was easy and no pressure. You get the sense that what they want is genuinely for you the customer to love what you choose. And we do. Once the work started, everything went very smoothly and we really appreciated how much care Frank and his crew took with our stuff. Each day they would move things out of the backyard and then back in in the evening. They took care to cover our stuff with tarps, and everything was kept as neat as possible during a renovation like this. Now that we have our patio to enjoy, we are grilling and eating out there every chance we get. And I smile when I pull up in front of our house. We would definitely recommend this company. read more

We hired them to sod our front lawn. Work was done in one day, and the result was amazing! They even added mulch around a tree we have and the house looks so much better. They left us detailed instructions on the care of the new sod, which are easy to follow. Frank did an amazing job and Liz was very quick and attentive in responding all our emails. I'm visiting my daughter who l lives in Springfield...I'm from Fort Lauderdale and not familiar with the type of soil and terrain here. Hilly, slopes, clay soil. The back of the house has a large, steep hill mostly covered with English Ivy. The part next to the house has two slope levels and one of them turns into a mud slide when it rains. It ruined a small garden area and cement walk. I did a great deal of online research on Virginia Piedmont soil, gardening, ground covers, grasses. It seemed the best solution for this eroding area was to lay sod over it, after tilling and amending the tough clay soil and leveling it so the slope was not so severe. The most important part now was to find the lawn/landscape company that I trusted to do the job well. I asked Landscapes by Wade to give me an estimate. I sent them photos of the area after rain so they could see it required good prep work before installing the grass. Frank came out a week later to assess the job, and revised the estimate to include some extra side garden tilling and amending. His background, experience and knowledge of landscaping was impressive. But most of all I could see he loved what he did. He was more than the owner and estimator of his company, he WAS the company and would be here working the job with his wife, Liz, and an assistant. They arrived one morning and began clearing the area of weeds, rocks, etc. Then the tilling and leveling of the soil and application of fresh organic mulch began. They buy their sod from their supplier the day of installation so it's freshness is guaranteed. By 4 PM the 200+ square feet was done/the side garden area tilled and mulched. I watched a professional team deliver precisely what was promised. These good people do good work. I would recommend them to anyone who loves their garden. read more

I had a small townhouse yard that was a complete blank slate. I wanted to maximize the space to allow for a seating and grilling area patio and still have a small patch of grass. Frank took the time to draw up and explain a few options. He has vast horticulture knowledge and I was impressed with his vision and technical understanding. He is also a local small business, which is always preferable to me. The job took a little while to get started but I understood it was busy season. The crew was here everyday on time working to get the project done. Admittedly, the project ended up being a bit more difficult than we both anticipated, but in the end, Frank ensured that everything was done to the highest quality. Most projects run into some bumps and I was very satisfied that landscapes by wade was able to take care of all and still remain within the budget. We worked with Landscapes by Wade this year and am so incredibly thankful we made the decision to work with them. I recommend this company to ANYONE looking to have work done in their yard. I have no doubt, no matter how big or small the job, Landscapes by Wade is the right company to choose. I have been planning an overhaul to our backyard for a while - it's a smaller yard, so you need to have a lot of imagination. After inviting a couple landscaping companies over to our house to give us their ideas, it was time to meet Frank of Landscapes by Wade. Frank came over, walked around the yard, and we talked through some ideas. Once Frank started making some observations about our yard that no one else had made, and making some comments that showed he had really listened to me and cared about what I wanted, I trusted him completely. The choice was made at that point. Frank has a very organic and natural approach to landscape design. He created a sketch of garden areas and paved areas that worked perfectly with our lifestyle, the natural shade and sun spots in the yard, and took into account the grassy areas we needed for our small dog. He worked through plant choices with me until he found plants that I loved, were low maintenance, and were safe for my dog. Not only was he kinder and more thoughtful than the others that had visited, his prices were MUCH more reasonable. You can't ask for better than that. He and his small team started the project. On their first day, they cleaned up my entire yard (tons of neglected leaves from the previous Fall that we hadn't cleaned up) and made a great dent in the work for the project. From day one I had a huge smile on my face. When they left each day, they organized all of their tools and materials so that our yard was usable for my family. Each day they were there I came home to a friendly crew who always took time and care to explain to me everything they were doing and still had left to do. They finished the work in less than a week and we are absolutely thrilled with what they were able to accomplish. Liz was great at keeping us updated on the status of the project and was incredibly helpful any time I had a question I needed answered. Found LBW through reviews on Yelp and was exceptionally impressed beginning when Frank came to prepare his estimate. He's passionate about his craft! His proposal was by far the most comprehensive and thorough and the work his crew delivered (under his astute supervision) was precisely as promised and then some. Ended up giving LBW another job and was equally pleased. Liz is on top of things and was great at communicating with us about the project status, anticipated deliveries, utility marking, etc. Quality, cost and workmanship were everything I had hoped for. Frank Davis of LBW just completed an overhaul of our front and back yards. What a great job!! This entailed a comprehensive redesign of the landscape around our house, and the removal, repositioning, and planting of trees and shrubs. It also included substantial work to remove stones I had laid for water and mulch control and then replace and augment them in an enhanced fashion. This project required in person visits by Frank and other communication prior to onsite work and then several days onsite to complete the task. Throughout, LBW could not have been more professional nor more accomodating. I first used LBW over 25 years ago when the company was then under Wade Davis. I met Frank, Wade's grandson, on site during one of the projects LBW was doing for me at that time. In April 2016, when my wife and I we were looking for a landscaping company I came upon LBW. While I had lost track of LBW in the intervening time, I knew the quality of the work LBW had provided. Also, I had met Frank and after talking with him, felt he was continuing the company's tradition. As a result, I sought no other estimates. I could not have been more accurate in my assessment to use LBW. Frank and his crew are the ultimate in quality of work, attention to detail and conscientiousness, cleanliness of the work site, cleanup, and responsiveness to all our questions and suggestions. I plan to continue to use LBW annually to now maintain the quality of the landscaping around our home. read more

I'm not even sure where to begin with this and how to make this concise. In short, this is THE worst company I have ever dealt with. Delay after delay from them without any proactive communication by them (I followed up every time) they finally showed up after 5 missed start dates. When they finally showed, they worked hard and got it done; no issue there. This is when everything went downhill. To make this as brief as I can and give you the sequence of amazing events that took place... 1) they left on a Wednesday 2) I inquired how much I owed on Wednesday night. As an aside, I gave them more than the required down payment. 3) I received a bill for much more than the proposal was for on Thursday. 4) I followed back up with them tell them I had questions and didn't understand the bill on Thursday, the same day. 5) They replies on Friday articulating why I owed more money. (Side note, I'm on business travel all the while this is going on) 6) I reply Friday that I need time to look over the original proposal with what they are telling me. 7) I get a reply from Frank on Friday that was the rudest, angriest, unprofessional email I have ever received. From questioning my work ethic to not appreciating good labor to thinking I was dragging my feet on final payments to spelling out simple math in a condescending way to me (mind you it's been 1 day since I even knew what I owed them), his email response reminded me of an angry teenager lashing out aimlessly. 8) I finally look at the proposal Sunday night and have final questions. 9) I email and call them on Monday my questions. 10) no real response, very vanilla response from them on Tuesday 11) I drop a check in the mail on Wednesday (less than a week after I got the final invoice AND STILL HAVING OPEN QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT I OWE. Yet still I pay it. 12) I get an email Thursday (a week after I got their final bill) from them telling me that if they don't get the check by Friday, they would have to charge me interest. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!!!??? At this point, I involved my lawyer and shot a note back that they would not receive another cent from me. I also sent them a 2 page letter that details all of this much better and articulates how unprofessional they are. Happy to share with anyone thinking of using this awful company. Also, please reach out to me before you use them. The level of rudeness and unprofessionalism exhibited post work by Frank and the office team is astounding. Further side note, I'm now re-weeding the expanse of space they weeded and covered with mulch not 30 days ago. Hope this helps. Use anyone but them. read more

We hired Landscapes by Wade Inc to lay some gravel where a trampoline used to be. They showed up and did excellent work. Even laid gravel in another part of our yard that needed it. We hired LBW to redesign and refresh our backyard. LBW did a great job with certain parts of the project, but the execution and end result were disappointing, and for that reason, we cannot recommend them. Frank agreed to do the free consultation on a Saturday morning in June and offered some unique suggestions for landscaping in our backyard, and in particular, for stepable plants as an alternative for stones or mulch underneath the deck. Frank took his time listening to our concerns and offering ideas to address each one of them. He was thoughtful and respectful and really seemed like a professional. LBW's estimate came in higher than the others, but we went with them anyway because we liked Frank's creative ideas and felt comfortable that LBW would do a good job. We scheduled a date a month and a half into the future because LBW was completely booked up in the early summer. Our date arrived in mid-July, and we were excited to get our backyard into shape. I called LBW that morning to see if they could help with one small additional task (repositioning a few large stones to complete a path), and Frank said they'd do it for no extra cost. Off to a great start. I came home from work early that morning because my son was sick, so I was able to watch the crew's progress. The crew arrived later in the morning than expected because the sod farm that they normally use sold out of sod, so they had to get it from another location an hour away. At around 6 or 7 pm, the foreman said they were finished and called me out to inspect the work. The team had overlooked a number of things that were in the contract. I pointed a few out to him, but there were some things they couldn't fix. For example, they didn't add soil/plants under the deck stairs. The foreman said they didn't have any more soil with them and already planted all of the plants. Other things were wrong too (eg, the stones they installed for free were upside down with blue paint showing, the flagstones were not arranged as we agreed, etc.). I noticed Frank wasn't there in the morning and asked the foreman whether he came to show them what to do, and the foreman said that Frank explained the plans over the phone. The foreman wasn't happy about my complaints and said it's been a long day and his team was tired. It admittedly was a very hot day and getting late, but we paid a lot of money and the job wasn't done right. I got the sense that this was probably a day and half job that was squeezed into one day. When the team finished the essential follow up work, I asked the foreman how often to water the lawn. He said they already watered it that evening, and to just water it every evening for a half hour. LBW also mentioned that they'd send watering instructions by email. I emailed LBW that evening to let them know we hadn't received the instructions. I watered the lawn for a half hour each evening for the next two days. At that point, LBW sent the watering instructions. By then the sod had already begun browning and the sod strips were separating. As it turned out, the foreman's instructions were wrong, and we were supposed to be watering in the morning and for longer periods of time. The lack of water was made worse by the temperature being in the 90s all week, which of course is nobody's fault. We exchanged emails with LBW about the issue afterwards, and they assured us that everything would bounce back with diffident watering, but as of this writing (3 weeks afterwards), the lawn is still in rough shape. We spent a few days fixing parts of the backyard, buying some additional stepable plants, and laying down grass seed in the area that was dying. Given how much we spent on the backyard, we were disappointed with the end result. read more

I've used a number of Landscape companies and none can touch Frank for quality. Be advised, though. They are pricey and they are lousy at estimating. They cover their butt by writing a contract that specifies that if they underestimate, you have to pay the full amount. I don't balk at this, but if you're on a budget, insist that the contract be revised to suit what you can pay. read more

Although they did a very neat job and seemed very nice, I was very disappointed that they planted fewer plants than what they had agreed upon and they didn't tell me about it. When I discovered the shortage and asked why there were fewer plants than what had been agreed upon for the contract price, they told me that the plants were more expensive than what they had thought/estimated. Well, they're the ones who came up with the contract terms and prices. If the plants had been less expensive, would they have told me and given me a refund? They should have eaten the increased plant costs - a contract is a contract. I felt cheated. read more
