Staff is amazing. Teachers are great. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. The FIS room looks wonderful!

She makes sure every child is doing well and feels comfortable and happy at school. We are very grateful to have Ms. Filiz as Kylan's Pre-K teacher. As parents, it means so much to be able to trust someone with our child every day, and she truly gives us that comfort and confidence. Kylan loves going to school, and we can see how much love and effort she puts into teaching and taking care of the children. Taking care of so many little kids is not easy at all, but Ms. Filiz does an amazing job every single day. We really appreciate all of her hard work, dedication, and kindness. Thank you sooooo much, Ms. Filiz! -- Nickie (Kylan's mom)

The campus felt warm, organized, and well structured, and it was clear the students are happy and well cared for. One of the sweetest moments was seeing a few girls in my daughter's prospective classroom come up to say hello -- it truly reflected the nurturing environment. We're genuinely excited for her to start this upcoming fall and look forward to joining the Stratford community!

Our family was part of Mattos since day one -- literally. When the school first opened it was a…read moresmall community of about 150 students, and we got to watch it grow into a full school through 6th grade. Every single grade was excellent. The facilities are state of the art, and you can tell everything was built with education and community building in mind. There's been real investment across the board: the buildings, the classroom furnishings, and just as importantly, the talent they've brought in across the teaching, maintenance, and administrative sides. Every student had access too all school classroom materials, to a classroom library and their own Chromebook. The academics speak for themselves. Mattos became a California Distinguished School in 2023, only a few years after opening its doors, and it earned a 10/10 GreatSchools rating within just a few years. The curriculum was solidly grade-appropriate and standards-aligned. Lessons stayed focused on core academics, and what our kids brought home each day was what we expected for their age -- no surprises. The workload was well balanced too -- homework at a reasonable level, with plenty of time left for kids to enjoy being kids. The parent community was a big part of what made this place work. The PTA was very active, organizing educational and fun events and bringing in donations to fund current and future activities. They won the National PTA School of Excellence award twice. Students, teachers, and parents really did form a united community, and the teachers and staff clearly cared a lot about their students' wellbeing. One more bonus: the city built a beautiful park right next door, and it's become the after-school and weekend gathering spot for families. An honest note. The school was fairly strict about following rules and limiting non-academic activities -- I suspect the PTA could have done even more with a longer leash -- though I understand the need to keep things orderly and safe. Our years at Mattos were a fantastic experience from start to finish, and I recommend the school to any family considering it.

I remember I had a very kind teacher who made me feel safe and welcome. We were encouraged to take care of plants and I remember mine was in a little bunny pot. My mom tells me she loved my teacher too. For birthdays, we wore a giant paper yellow hat. One day if I can find that photo, I'll attach it to this post. Every time I drive along 680 and see that Day Star sign, I'm so glad the school is still there. From the recent reviews, it seems the school is still thriving. Just wanted parents to know that this school has a solid foundation as an incredible school from its beginnings. Thank you for everything, Day Star!

The teachers are patient, caring, and genuinely invested in the children's growth. Whenever we had concerns, they were always willing to listen, work with us, and support our child in becoming more confident and comfortable in social settings. Another thing we really appreciate is the schedule. The school has relatively few closure days compared to many other programs, which is very helpful for working parents. If you need extended care until 6:00 PM, there are also many enrichment activities available, giving children plenty of opportunities to explore new interests. We're grateful for the care and support our child has received here and would highly recommend Day Star Montessori to other families.
