Lang's Bakery is the definition of a casual local mom-and-pop shop. This small bakery is in the Little Saigon plaza of OKC's Asian District. Although known for its bakery, it also has a simple dining area. Their "chao long" which is pork offal rice porridge was delicious. Lang's Bakery is my favorite spot for this traditional Vietnamese dish. They simply make the best version of this dish. The service is wishy washy. During non-busy hours, no one would be at the counter. The employees would all be in the back doing work. This is a Vietnamese bakery I grew up eating at--and one I still keep coming back to. My mom used to order my birthday cakes from here when I was younger, so it definitely holds a special place for me. But I also love their bánh mì. Especially their thịt nguội (cold cuts). Every shop has its own take, but Lang's really stands out with the variety and quality of their deli meats. The head cheese is thinly sliced with minimal tendon, and the whole sandwich hits that perfect savory balance. The pâté isn't overly salty, and their housemade mayo is rich, creamy, and ties everything together. I usually grab a few at a time and ask for some untoasted so I can crisp them up later in the week--still just as good. Beyond bánh mì, they offer classic Vietnamese plates too. Their udon soup is also one of my favorite entrees from here--the broth is clean, light, but still flavorful. It's not much of an ambiance--definitely more of a takeout spot--but you'll still see some people dining in. And now that they accept credit cards? This is my favorite place that I wanted to gatekeep to specific people because I knew they would mention something about price and length of receiving food. Now that it's more well known let me just start by saying, some of y'all are way too used to fast food so please go there. I've been going to Lang's bakery since a young lad and have learned of the in's and out's of this place. They make it from scratch and they make sure it's cooked to perfection as they uphold authentic, homemade Vietnamese food. Shocker right? If y'all like reheated frozen meat, go somewhere else. I passed by Lang's for way too long because I thought it was cash only...and I never have cash. Turns out, it's 2021 and they accept Venmo and CashApp. Lang's is a small bakery and restaurant, known mostly for their Banh Mi sandwiches, which are excellent. I have tried both their Thit Nguoi and the meatball, and they were as good as any in town. I also like their broken rice dishes. They use the correct kind of broken rice, if you care about that kind of detail, and all of the toppings I have tried are delicious. I'm not here to tell you what meat to pick. Lang's also offers dishes that aren't necessarily on every Viet menu in town. For something unusual, try the Banh Tam Bi, thick and chewy white noodles (gluten-free) served with a thick, sweet coconut sauce and shredded pork and pork skin. I was so glad I tried it--this was a new one to me! I'm also looking forward to trying the Ban Beo Tom, finely grained shrimp and mung bean paste on a rice patty. Across several take-out and dine-in experiences, the food has been consistently fresh and delicious. The service is quick and friendly, too. Extremely reasonable prices. The overall quality of the banh mi was less than I expected. The bread tasted like it had been purchased at Super Cao Nguyen, frozen, and then thawed out and overly toasted. Honestly I expected the bread to be the best part considering it's a bakery. The meat and veggies were fine, meaning the meat tasted good and the veggies were fresh. At a late lunch with some friends on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered broken rice platter with egg, grilled pork, and shredded pork, meatball sandwich, and Vietnamese iced coffee. Small ma and pa restaurant. The grilled pork isn't too fatty and everything just pairs well in a bite. Meatball sandwich, I put the meatball on the side so I could dip my toasted baguette in the broth. Love how the Vietnamese coffee is served. The coffee is brought out still dripping with the condensed milk in the bottom. Let it cool down, then pour it into a cup of ice. Whew, strong delicious stuff! I had my first one at Lang's a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't believe myself for neglecting this epitome. A true gem. Very cozy inside, plenty of parking, and a good selection of bakery items. They also make special order bakery items. I ordered the bbq pork bahn mi, and a cone shaped pastry item filled with a vanilla type cream. They were both good. I want to start off by expressing how amazing the bread was. It was like they just baked it before they made the sandwich; the best I have ever had in Houston and OKC. The sandwich was unique compared to other Bahn Mis because they put crushed peanuts in it and the butter/mayo they use has a great flavor instead of just offering a soft texture. The pork was cooked with a great char, and was tender. The veggies were super fresh and offered a nice texture between the ingredients. The location is tucked behind Lido in a small business strip, and the Super Cao Nguyen is literally the back yard. There are a lot of great places surrounding Nhu Lan. Supposedly this is the best Vietnamese banh mi shop in town, and of the three I've tried, they're right. The restaurant is tucked away in a little strip and parking is easy. The Banh Mi Thit Nuong (BBQ Pork) was tasty and all my friends got the Egg and Cha banh mi. That one was also really tasty. They've also got some good soup dishes. Fantastic bahn mi thit nuong (pr: bun me tit noon). The bread was so fresh, light and crusty. The pork was flavorful and veggies were crisp. The homemade mayo was also a hit. Service was friendly and helpful on my first visit here. Also tried the Pate Chaud, a flaky pastry with a savory "meatball" in the middle consisting of ground pork and chicken pate. I came here to grab a grilled pork Bahn Mi to see if it was the best one in OKC. I tried 4 grilled pork Bahn Mi's side by side from 4 different places(Lee's, Lang's, Quoc Bao and GiaGia). Lang's came in 3rd tastewise. Still a pretty good bahn mi but I am not a big fan of the flavor of their grilled pork. It had a cinnamon like flavor to the meat . Maybe next time I'll try a cold cut. My server today was a tall nice guy who was very friendly and seemed to know everyone who came in on a first name basis. I guess whoever comes here quickly becomes a regular. Probably one of my favorite places to come to when I come back to okc. It's a little ol bakery in a hidden strip by Cao Nguyen. It's ran by Vietnamese ladies that have been as long as I can remember. Apparently they held my siblings and I when we were infants lol. Anyway, this place hasn't changed and neither has their food! They've got a small variety of baked goods like fried bread, seasame balls with mung beans, and different sesame breads that they hand make in the back. Growing up as a kid my parents would always order the pork udon stew which is the banh canh(sp) it's basically their handmade noodles with carrots and chunks of pork and it's just very homey which is amazing. Lately I get their broken rice with girlled pork and sliced eggs without any veggies because it's hearty and delicious. Their bahn mi's are really popular with people during their lunch rush so you should totally try this place out. I live in dallas but I stop by okc all the time before I get to Wichita to visit my family. I ask some friends where they have good banh mi. They said Lang's. Went here 3 times and I finally came and they was open, maybe only cuz I called ahead and make a order. When I left with 5 bucks worth of French baguettes and they pre packed it for me.
