For our group gathering the friend we were celebrating selected this place. Parking was hard unless you realize that the garage connected to the building offers free parking. Spaces were easy to find. Cocktails at the bar before friends arrived. Menu was big. Our group ordered a variety of apps and ordered dinner items: we shared lots of our dishes. Shaking beef was a popular choice amongst half our group. I have to say the portion were tiny for $23. I am used to big chunks of beef for this dish. It was more like smaller pieces. The flavor was not there, actually no flavor. I also ordered the chicken wing appetizers. They were over cooked and dry and had no flavor. I heard from other friends that their Pho was good. Service was kinda slow. It took awhile to get someone to come take orders and check on us. So many options for Vietnamese food, I doubt if I would return.

Really amazing food and mocktails. I had the hot Stone pot fried rice and it was amazing. My friends split the pho and it looked awesome. The fish sauce wings were a great start to the meal.

I normally go to the Falls Church Lantern House and decided to try the new location in Reston, hence it will be hard not to compare. The Reston location is clearly more upscaled with a better location and ambiance. It is well decorated and it shows the intent to raise the bar. The menu also includes items not offered in the falls church location and this would be a nice Thai place for date night. The food is delicious and well presented, the pictures so not so them the service they deserve. The staff is attentive and well trained. The one recommendation I would provide is not to forget your Vietnamese roots, the menu should have dish plates in their Vietnamese sounding name (e.g., bahn mi rather than Vietnamese sandwich) and the tuong den and siracha should always be on the table. Finally, do not be afraid of adding chilis or jalapeños to the dishes, I am certain the response will be as positive as in your other location. Overall, amazing restaurant and experience.

    A round of lychee mojitos

My experience at the lantern house this evening was awesome! A little tucked away from the main Reston area in a slightly residential area with plenty of street parking and a parking garage, I was pleasantly surprised to find a little oasis of authentic Vietnamese fusion cuisine and delicious fresh mixed cocktails! Highly suggest the lychee mojito!! every person in our four-person girl group had two of these with deliciously plump fresh lychee on top of fresh mint, limes and just the right amount of rum to make you feel all warm inside! The decor was really nice too! Modern with a touch of fun and eclectic. Fortunately, my friends had already been here before, so I had plenty of good suggestions to consider. I opted for a plate that was heavy in vermicelli noodles, and upon ordering the server who took my order highly suggested that I order the woven vermicelli meal that came with lemon grass beef. I am so happy I listened to him because the dish was overflowing with delicious flavor and before I knew it, my plate was completely empty. Service was very kind, prompts and knew all the right suggestions to offer for a high quality experience. Plenty of delicious options for appetizers from classic favorites like fried spring rolls and rice paper summer rolls to savory entrées like short rib, hot pot Vietnamese noodle soups and fried rices. I can see why this place has quickly become a local favorite and why the ratings are all very positive! Lived up to the hype for sure! Thank you so much for an awesome dinner this evening! I really look forward to returning very soon.

I checked this place out for the first time last night with my friend, the food staff and atmosphere were so cute and amazing! We got spring rolls, 3beef skewers, and the blue grill mussel to start. Followed by the caramelized fish, and beef stew with egg noodles. We finished with the mango mousse. Everything was delicious and the fairy summer and my drink with lycee jelly aperol and prosecco were the perfect toppers! They also do karaoke on Fridays and stay open until 11! Regular nights they close around 9pm. Be sure to check them out! We will 100% be back

We really liked it! Inside was clean, fancy, small but spacious. Foods was awesome my favorite is animal fries, for only $10 it was amazing. People were kind and warm. For service everything looks amazing. 10/10 recommendation.

Lantern House & Bar is such a charming addition to Reston! The décor is beautiful--warm, modern, and inviting--making it the perfect date spot. It strikes that nice balance of feeling a little fancy but still totally comfortable. The restaurant isn't huge, but there is enough space for small parties, so it works well for intimate gatherings too. Their drinks are super cute and genuinely delicious. As for the food, the Mussels Royale is an absolute must if you're a mussel lover--the sauce is seriously to die for. The bread is crunchy (almost too crunchy), so I personally wouldn't mind it being a bit softer, but the flavor combination still hits. The summer rolls are fresh and tasty, and overall, the menu leans toward Vietnamese fusion. It's not 100% traditional, but the flavors are enjoyable, and you can still find classics like pho if you want something more familiar. Service is quick and friendly--our food came out in about 10-15 minutes, which is perfect for a relaxed night out without waiting forever. Overall, a solid four-star spot with great vibes, good food, and insta-worthy drinks. Perfect for date night or a cute evening with friends!

    Guava Margarita

Came in on a weeknight for dinner and they weren't very busy, bust service was very good. They have a nice selection of Vietnamese fare, from banh mi to pho to wok'd entrées. They also have a very nice cocktail menu, the guava margarita is really good! Their wings were how we started and the fish sauce is a great flavor to choose. Nice tang to them and they tasted even better when tried with the onions and peppers that were on the plate. Their golden fried rice with grilled chicken was really nice! I enjoyed both the rice chicken, separately. The shaken beef was made with a very nice tenderloin and was also loaded with great flavor and served on a sizzling platter. We all enjoyed the food and service. I would definitely return when in the area again.

We really enjoyed our visit to Lantern House. Just walking in, it's a delightful atmosphere- light and airy, trendy but with a touch of elegance. There's a fun photo wall if that's your thing. Service was timely and friendly. Cocktails and food were tasty.

Very good food! My fiancé got the pad thai noodle dish with chicken and I got the ginger pho. The pho was very fresh and flavorful. My favorite thing we got was the chicken and pineapple kabobs -so good !! I would come back again to try more on the menu and sample a cocktail.

Lantern House Kitchen & Bar in Reston, VA, features Asian fusion and Vietnamese-inspired cuisine in a stylish and elegant setting, characterized by a harmonious blend of green and white tones accented with gold elements. The service is friendly and attentive, with generous portions. The interior is decorated for Halloween, featuring pumpkins, bats, skulls, spider webs, autumn leaves, dried flowers, and the establishment's signature colorful lanterns. Some dishes we enjoyed and highly recommend: 1. House Special Banh Xeo: A thin rice batter crepe cooked in a hot skillet with pork, prawns, green onion, mung beans, and bean sprouts. It's served with leafy greens, Thai basil, cucumbers, carrots, and radishes for added flavor. The large crepe was chewy with a pleasing crunch from the bean sprouts, creating a delightful experience. Dipping it in sweet, vinegary sauce made it even more enjoyable. 2. Pho Stone Pot Adventure: Large beef broth served in a sizzling hot stone pot, with noodles and high-quality beef on a separate plate. To eat, combine everything in the broth--a perfect dish for a cold day. The portion is generous, and the taste is excellent.

    My sad banh mi.

The sandwich was not $10 as pictured on yelp. It's actually $14 plus tax. Let me show you what that got me.... Soggy bread (even though I intentionally picked up my to go order as soon as it was ready), plenty of meat, no toppings even tho I asked for everything, and not even cut in 1/2 so that it can be eaten on the go. This was my first experience at this restaurant as I usually get my sandwiches elsewhere. The service was strange, the food is expensive and not comparable to nearby locations, I will not be returning.

Garden Spring Roll, Banh Xeo, Chicken Skewers, Blazing Harmony (clay bowl), Papaya Salad, Soft Egg Noodle. (12.7.24)
    Carroll N.

12.7.24 Elegant and classy decor and festive touches for the holidays. The food is out of this world. Some of the best Vietnamese food I've had in the DMV area. My friends and I ordered: -Chicken Skewers: Highly recommend -Garden Summer Rolls -Blazing Harmony w/Chicken: highly recommend. -Banh Xeo with Tofu and Shrimp (Pancakes): Prefer less bean sprouts and more tofu. -Soft Egg Noodles with Tofu: Could have used dipping sauce for tofu as it was bland. Noodle itself was delish Service was great. I was impressed our server remembered our order and didn't need to write it down. This is truly a hidden gem. I was surprised how empty the restaurant was for noon on a Saturday. My friends said likely due to its location. If it was in a shopping center it would more likely have more business. There is street parking up front and around the corner in a parking garage.

Chiko is no exception. A Korean-Chinese fusion concept with bright yellow and black decor, a friendly and responsive wait staff and a unique menu that won't be found elsewhere, we're working our way through the variety of bowls, dumplings and entrees that all combine multiple sweet, sour, and spicy elements as a foundation for the dishes. We knew nothing about Korean food, moving here from Colorado where everything was with steak or burgers. (I'm exaggerating a bit). The dining room isn't very big, and since we came for an early dinner, we had our pick and chose a four-top with a view. Well... the view was basically the Paris Baguette that's across the street. The general manager came by to take our order. To drink, I had a mocktail, "house-made lime cooler," which consists of "pureed Asian pear, lime juice, and Sichuan tea." I found it to be very refreshing. My husband had a Coors Light. For my entree, I chose "Soy glazed brisket" which consists of "2Fifty Texas BBQ brisket, soy brined soft egg, furitake butter, pickled peppers, steamed rice". I liked this entree. It was mildly spiced; the pieces of brisket were properly prepared; the pickled peppers added some heat; and the soy-brined soft egg was a nice touch. The egg was soft-boiled, and the egg yolk provided a nice flavor. My husband chose "JJayJangmeon" which consists of "shrimp, scallops, roasted black bean sauce, noodles". The dish is made with wheat noodles. It arrived hot and with a nice vegetable garnish on top. The greenness of the vegetables made a nice contrast to the dark brown sauce. That brown sauce was hot, mild, and thoroughly coated the dish's ingredients. It seemed a bit unusual to see a dish with shrimp and scallops coated in a mild black bean sauce, but it worked nicely. The shrimp arrived tail-less, and the scallops were soft and not rubbery, both properly prepared. I was glad not to have to fight with the shrimp tails. All in all, we were glad we made a return visit.

It was my first time trying fried oysters, and they absolutely did not disappoint! They were incredibly delicious and one of my favorite parts of the meal. I'll definitely be coming back for them. The atmosphere was also fantastic. The decor is adorable, and the music selection made the experience even more enjoyable. Even though she appeared to be having a long and busy shift, she consistently checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed in a timely manner. We really appreciated her attentiveness and kindness. The only downside was parking. There wasn't any available directly in front, so we ended up parking in the Walmart garage and paying $12. We forgot to ask whether the restaurant offers parking validation or a voucher, so that's something future guests may want to check on. If you're Korean, and you're looking for the traditional affair, this is not it. I'd take a client or friends here who aren't Korean. It's catered more towards non-Koreans IMO. They're selling this as an upscale spot and while the quality of meat is pretty darn good, you have to ask for lettuce and garlic - the two items always present at a traditional k bbq. It kind of sh*ts on the tradition by doing that. Why not provide that to give the full experience we all expect? I love luxury dining as much as anyone else but this was a colossal waste of money. I come to this shopping center multiple times a week since I live in McLean and almost always miss that this exists. They also have barstools outside facing the bar indoors but it's just so awkward. The sidewalk of this area is not built for that! Great idea (usually), but terrible execution. There's so many Korean bbq places nearby. I'm glad I tried this place to kill my curiosity of what they do different. Again, great spot if you want in bbq in a more upscale atmosphere, but it's more or less "fusion," and I'd be good with a business dinner here. Service was impeccable though. I appreciated the promptness in attending to our needs. The savory dishes btw- the dwenjangjiggae is awful. Lacks depth, flavor, and just overall was very meh. The other items (and we had all 5) were just fine. Nothing to sing home about.
