I tried their green peppercorn chicken because it seemed to be on special. I didn't see any green peppercorns, I insisted it would be mild which it was. The Salt and Pepper fried short rib bits were probably 60% burned to a crisp batter, no meat, the ones with meat were OK with a few bare bones thrown in for good measure; crab rangoons were huge, filled with standard cream cheese these days; pot stickers were large very doughy weird tasting things, not horrible but I expected better; pork egg rolls ok; the big big disappointment was the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce - it came in a large soup container & looked & tasted like shrimp in a soupy broth of canned peas and carrots with zero lobster sauce umami for $21.95. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by how easy everything was--no wait, immediate seating, and quick service from the start. The restaurant itself is cute, spacious, and has plenty of seating, making it great for both small groups and larger gatherings. We started with the kimchi, which was fresh, crunchy, and super refreshing. It was the perfect way to wake up our taste buds before diving into the rest of the meal. Next came the veggie spring rolls, and these were SO good. Crispy, hot, and even better when dipped in their homemade chili oil. Honestly, I could have eaten a whole plate of those alone. The hot and sour soup was huge and easily enough to share among four people. It was warm, comforting, packed with tofu, and exactly what you want on a cozy lunch outing. For entrees, the General Tso's chicken was a winner. The chicken was perfectly breaded, the vegetables were fresh, and the sauce had that delicious sweet-and-spicy flavor that keeps you coming back for another bite. We also ordered the house special chow mein, which was surprisingly unique because the noodles were crispy rather than soft. The texture was different in the best way, and the dish was loaded with vegetables and plenty of flavor. It was another great option for sharing. My only small complaint? So I've been here maybe 5 yrs ago and I hated it back then. I read the yelp reviews and thought hmmm maybe I'll give it another shot. Man was I wrong. First of all the restaurant itself is pretty and calm looking. Our server was a very nice older lady and made me laugh because she reminded me of the character "Dude where's my car". Our server kept saying when she was taking our order, "and then? And then?" LOL. Anyway we started with pork egg rolls and pot stickers. The egg rolls were not good and the potstickers came out like it sat in oil for a day. Don't order this if you have GERD coz u won't be able to sleep after. Anyway, entree-wise we got the spicy chow mein with chicken. That was a dry chow mein noodle and was just odd tasting but that too was greasy. The other entree was the beef with vegetables and the beef was velveted to the point it tasted old. Ain't no way in hell would we ever go back to this! The appetizers came within the minutes. We had the spicy beef sliced and marinated cucumber, both are on point. First main dish was twice cooked pork. Thinly clicked pork belly with black beans, cabbage, and bean past. I'm a big fan of pork belly and I was in hog heaven. I surprised my son with lamb with white onion and basil, my hometown classic. Our favorites are the Dry Chili Chicken, Tony's Three Chili Shrimp, Dan Dan Noodles, Fu Xi Fei Pian (Sliced Beef & Maw Szechuan Style - Cold Appetizer), Salt & Pepper Scallop, Chengdu Kung Pao Chicken, and Hot & Sour soup. The New Pickled Chili Beef Tenderloin is delicious as well! All these dishes are mildly to fairly spicy except for the Salt & Pepper (not really spicy, but crispy and delicious). If you like spicy this place is for you. If you like their signature Dry Chilli Chicken, they can make it in almost any other meat choice (beef, pork, lamb, shrimp, squid, etc). Also love the complimentary spicy cabbage appetizer. Free street parking and lot on the weekends is a plus. There must not be a lot of good Chinese food places in Highland Park as it's interesting that the other locations for this chain of restaurants are closer to a 3 rating but somehow this HP is 4.5. I was not impressed with the quality of the food especially for the prices. I have had much better Chinese food from other places at half the cost. I also don't think the staff was friendly or accommodating at all. I realized after that the 3rd party apps also have a spice level you can chose and had some other customizations they did not mention on the phone. It's also a bit confusing they call things one thing on their menu but then call it something different in the phone or the apps. I would mention something exactly as it is on the menu and then she repeated it differently which made it difficult to make sure I was getting what everyone wanted since this was a larger group order. The crab rangoon was chewy and not crispy at all. The fried dough around it was chewy. The Lao Mein was flavorless. We got one order with chicken and another with vegetable and they were both just noddles with very little veggies and sauce. The fried flat noodles I got with vegetables and it had nothing more than a few leeks and tiny amounts of broccoli. I was disappointed considering you pay the same for chicken and vegetable dishes. I ordered the string beans and asked for Szechuan flavoring and got garlic. veggies en we use them. We also got the Tony's Chicken with Three Chili, and the chicken wasn't crispy or spicy at all. The rice was a bit dry. Just overall not the Chinese take out I was expecting and craving, especially at $20 a dish where I expected something more curated. On top of it all, the prices were way too high for a Chinese restaurant for the amount and quality. I also purposely placed the order for pickup through the phone b/c I saw they had third party ordering but know these businesses get charged fees etc...However, there were a bunch of promos going on for Uber and DoorDash on almost all the items I was ordering and I was ordering for 7 people, so not a small order. I thought they might at least honor the BOGO free crab Rangoon on the total by showing them the offers offered through the 3rd party apps and choosing to do phone order through them directly. However they did not seem to care at all. I could have just cancelled the order and placed it on the Uber or DoorDash apps had I known. It was not just BOGO on crab rangoon but also the Chili chicken and the Lao Mein so we're talking almost the majority of the order. So advice to anyone ordering pickup, order through the 3rd party apps instead since it doesn't seem they actually appreciate the direct benefit of ordering through the store directly or just pick another spot. It may be a sign that they have so many dishes in promotion in the 3rd party apps. read more

Mongolian Beef so salty it was hardly edible. Kung Pao shrimp wasn't spicy - not sure how that happened. Bok Choy not very fresh. Soups OK. Table top had worn paint, paint chipped on walls, plastic plants everywhere. Several old orchid plants without flowers.
