It's been a while since we ordered and to our wonderful surprise everything is still great! You get a good amount of food and it's made to order is sometimes it may take longer but it's worth it. Food tasty. Bare bones waiting area. They add 3% for credit cards, and don't tell you in advance or on the website they use. Nor is the added fee posted anywhere in the storefront. A good carry out Chinese restaurant. The strip mall joint has two tiny tables, but I would not recommend dining in. They said the food would take about 10 minutes, but it took a little while longer... which normally isn't a big deal, but I had to get back to work. I ordered one of the lunch specials, Orange Chicken. It was pretty good, again for a carry out place and the price I paid, I have nothing to complain about. The lunch portions are fairly big, I could not even finish it all. The the lunch special options come with fried rice and an egg roll as well... a very good deal for $5 or $6! Just wait this area deserves. There are zero options in the Deerfield/Highland Park area so I'm happy to report the option you do have is decent. They sell all the basics here. Don't call up expecting to find century eggs or congee here. Just decent General Tso's and maybe a better than average noodle selection. Lo Mein is good and a safe pick. New China has become one of my top places to get a quick bite to eat, and I appreciate that they have many healthy options. My go-to is usually chicken chop suey or vegetable subgum. Both feature super-fresh veggies, and a light fragrant sauce that isn't too salty (a problem with a few other local restaurants). I also like their broccoli in garlic sauce, and their broccoil in oyster suace, when I'm craving greens. The fresh broccoli florets still have nice crisp, and their sauces are - again - savory without too much salt. Their veggie fried rice is really satisfying, as is their Szechwan tofu, if you're in the mood for comfort food (that's still fairly healthy). I also recommend their pot stickers, BBQ pork (I've gotten this before to add to my own noodle soups), veggie egg rolls, and their smoothies (with or without boba). Lately, I've been getting the Pork Chow Fun See (delicious stir-fried thin glass noodles, with pork and veggies), which reminds me of a Taishan cafe I used to frequent in the city. It's not something I generally find at other restaurants. The glass noodles are just the right consistency, and have the perfect stretch and pop (for lack of a better way to describe it) that I enjoy. They're generous with the pork and veggies, so every bite is great. New China is quick, and inexpensive - a good place to get a quick healthy (if you know what to pick) bite to eat while you're on the go. They have a tiny dining area, but are mostly geared towards carry out. The lot can get pretty crowded during prime times, but there's more parking just past the Starbuck's drive-thru exit. Order ahead, or from their website, and you can be in-and-out with your food in just minutes. They have delivery through Grub-hub, it seems (though I haven't tried it). Accepts Visa and MasterCard, but not Discover - cash is appreciated. Between their convenient location, good prices, and great food; New China is among my favorite places to get a quick lunch or dinner that leaves me satisfied. read more

Ordered online 4:25 for 6:30. Arrived a bit early, but it was a total zoo inside...and order was not ready till 6:45. The kid at the counter must have been 12 years old (other must be his brother who was 8 or so)...no communication really and there were about 8-9 people just waiting in the area for food. I'm vastly disappointed. First off, their menu has changed, so they really need to update their online menu to reflect not only the price increases, but the fact that they've COMPLETELY changed their menu and the dishes I was reading off the old menu either don't exist anymore at all, or have changed in name. This makes ordering when calling quite difficult. The egg rolls so far are the only decent thing I've tried. The Shrimp Chow Fun See (according to the old menu, now apparently known as Mei Fen on the new menu) was incredibly bland and too watery, and the "heads" on the shrimp are mushy/mealy which means previously frozen. The pot stickers were pink inside, so I had to heat them back up for two minutes and they're still not fully cooked, but they're better. Unfortunately, the filling falls apart when you try and stick a fork into them. The sauce for the pot stickers is too sweet. They used to have two types of hot & sour soup, now apparently they only have one. The hot and sour soup is really bad. Because the shrimp were previously frozen, the broth picks up that frozen "flavor," and makes the soup no good; further, the broth on its own has absolutely no complexity of flavor. All you can taste is the chili oil. Even the pork initially tastes like the frozen shrimp. Yuck. Even the tofu, which I love in hot & sour soup takes on the frozen shrimp taste! The chicken kow is no longer chicken kow, but Moo Goo Gai Pan, and that means the veggies in it changed too. Now they apparently put zucchini and green pepper in it. But, while a little bland, it's by far the best dish I've tasted of what I ordered so far. Which is quite disappointing. The sesame chicken though, is the most disappointing of all. I only ordered it because according to the online menu, it's supposed to have broccoli, and black mushroom, and another vegetable, and sauce (and someone's review said it had a good amount of sauce), but the new sesame chicken has sadly gone the route of all other Chinese places and only has chicken with a couple of pieces of broccoli and sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The sauce? Nope. Not much of it; only what sticks to the chicken. *sigh* So, that's almost $50 worth of food and almost none of it any good at all. I will NOT be returning. Plus, they have the most bizarre pickup system I've ever seen. Everywhere else I go, I can walk into the restaurant to pick up the food. Not here. They have this big box sticking out of the door, and you have to ring a bell. Then if you are paying by cash, they reach through their side of the box to take your money and put your change in the bag. Just weird. read more

I just ordered take out from New China and i must say my food was very disappointing. Chicken Fried rice had only a few pieces of steamed, unseasoned chicken and a few chopped up raw onions. Standing here in the restaurant waiting for an order placed at 3pm for pickup at 530. It's now 6pm. People who ordered online are being told there is no order, even if it was paid for online. This place is so unorganized. They are short staff and can't handle the holidays. This happened years ago as well. Best Chinese takeout in the area by far. Food is always good and suprisingly authentic (I'm asian so you can say it's asian approved). I love fried rice hoowever there are a few places that make it the way I like it..flavor filled. Awesome honey walnut shrimp. They make their own buttered sauce! Mmm. Everything I've had here has never been a let down. Every since new management took over the customer service has been delightful (Amy who runs the place is super sweet and so warm). I gave this place another try and I found it more enjoyable the second time. I tried the potstickers, wonton soup, chicken egg foo young, Hunan beef, and kung pao chicken. The potstickers were delicious. Nice and crispy outside and the filling was very tender and flavorful. I found the filling was much softer than most potstickers so it was very enjoyable. The wonton soup is delicious; perfectly seasoned broth and the wontons were excellent and flavored nicely. Egg foo young was also delicious with luxurious gravy and generous portion to feed many. The Hunan beef and kung pao chicken were both really good too. The sauce for the beef was classic brown sauce and the beef and vegetables were nicely tender and flavorful. Kung pao chicken was good as well and both sauces for each entree I enjoyed very much. Before COVID, New China has the best Chinese food in the area in my opinion. I've been getting their food for over 15 years. Recently the taste of the food has been missing in quality. They used to have amazing pot stickers, and I had them tonight and they were like something they just they just threw in the oven. Did take out for the first time the other night from here. I am on a quest to find the best Mongolian Chicken, so I ordered one of these and one order of pork fried rice. I had not phoned ahead so I had to wait. The wait was not too long and the food came out piping hot. I was disappointed in the chicken, though it tasted alright the spice level wasn't there. The pork fried rice was very tasty but was a much darker color than I am used to and they were a bit shy with the pork. Ordered food on Christmas Day (a well established busy day for Chinese food). Ordered at 5:30pm and was told 2 hours. Tried calling to get an update at 7:15 and they rudely hung up on us. Arrived at 7:30 per there provided time and was greeted by a dozen plus people waiting for their orders. When we inquired as to the status of our order, we were told, "oh it's almost ready, a few more dishes". They said the same thing to everybody that asked which was obviously a lie. The complete lack of integrity in their customer service was appalling. They were very happy though to let people pay for their meals. It baffles me that a business can be so unorganized and unprofessional. We waited an extra hour standing around twiddling our thumbs. Meaning it took 3 HOURS for our food, an hour more that they told us. In fact, there was someone else there who had ordered at 4:30 and 4 hours later he too still did not have his order! At least in the end they gave us everything we ordered... Chinese food makes this day for me, and New China let me done. Shameful. read more
