Delicious skewers. Yunnan style food. Great service. Our server was very patient in explaining the menu to us. Skewers were served hot and kept warmed at the table. Good flavors. They offered us a free appetizer and traditional dessert. Restaurant was not too busy when we were there on a Saturday night.

This is a great place to grab skewers in this area. Ordering is very easy, and you can do it all on your phone after scanning the QR code. We got a variety of skewers and my wife tried the cold noodle dish. The lamb skewers were my favorite, specifically the special lamb skewer. The meat was very tender compared to the normal lamb skewer. The service here is very fast and the food also arrives very quickly.

Un-gatekeeping another good skewer place in Rowland Heights. Everyone goes to Little Skewer but I honestly think Lao Yan BBQ is better. The meat comes in bigger pieces and it's so tender. They don't lie about their spice either so only go for medium if you love spicy food. Mild is more than enough. I recommend ordering the Dongbei cold noodles on the side to refresh your palette. I would tell you my favorite skewers but I genuinely loved them all. If you're curious, this is what we ordered: beef tendon, house special lamb skewers, grilled chicken skin, chicken crispy bones, lamb skewers, beef skewers, grilled squid tentacles, grilled oysters, grilled king oyster mushrooms, and grilled steamed buns. We also got enoki mushrooms and special malatang on the side to share in addition to the skewers and it was super flavorful. The food came out in batches and the worker seemed kind of nonchalant but I didn't mind since the food was good.

This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise! The barbecue was absolutely delicious, with every dish perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. You can really tell that great care goes into both the ingredients and the preparation. What impressed us just as much as the food was the outstanding service. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Their recommendations were excellent, and the overall dining experience was fantastic. As people from Northeast China, we grew up eating all kinds of barbecue and are usually quite picky when it comes to grilled food. We never expected to fall in love with Yunnan-style barbecue, but this place completely changed our minds. The unique flavors, spices, and cooking style were unlike anything we had experienced before. Everything we ordered was delicious, and we left already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic, flavorful food and exceptional service!

First time to try YunNan style bbq and we love it. The portion is big and the price is not expensive at all. The yunnan style beef and lamb were great. The stir fried noodles were also good and we liked it. The service was good and the restaurant is clean great place to hangout with friends and drink.

    Sausage fried rice

I dined here with my nephew and we ended up loving this place. This restaurant is located in Rowland Heights and let me tell you that it's worth the drive. We ordered a bunch of things such as fresh tofu skewers, beef skewers, lamb skewers, eggplant, potatoes, scallops, sausage fried rice and yunan noodles. The skewers were absolutely delicious! They were perfectly seasoned and grilled, and packed with lots of flavors. Equally delicious were the eggplant, potatoes and scallops. We ate them with the sausage fried rice. We got so full that we ended up having the noodles to go. Place is clean with lots of seating. Service was fast. We were served by a friendly lady named Tiffany who answered our questions regarding the menu.

Really like how chill this spot it! They open until 12 and sometimes have a bogo beer deal that is too good to pass up! The only thing is sometimes they run out of ingredients for certain skewers so we had to order other things to replace. The gizzard and lamb skewers are pretty good, but the malatang really surprised me! I really like the flavor and it actually has a little mala flavor because of the peppercorn so if you like that I recommend!

Huge fan of skewers and glad to find a place with freshly grilled lamb skewers that's not at a night market. Tuesday-Thursday lamb skewers are BOGO. They cook it in the back and we keep them warm under a wax candle on the table. Good seasoning & spicy & authentic. I also liked the fatty beef fried rice. A little sweet flavor and small chunks of grilled beef. I'd recommend the beef fried rice over the yunnan friend noodles, it wasn't anything special. I'd come back for their food but their service was nonexistent. They speak little English here & the server didn't seem to want to help us. But ordering and getting utensils are all self service, little interaction is necessary.

    No Soap, just Hand Sanitizer

I don't know how cheap any restaurant can be to not have soap in their bathroom. It was stocked with HAND SANITIZER as soap in both men and women restrooms. I'm comparing this to GAO's Crab down the street too which has skewers and more and their food, vibes and service were way better. Food was OK. They didn't have Stinky Tofu, Wontons, kids meal like GAO's. Fried rice was good though and seasoning on skewers were decent. Beef skewers got a little hard after a while. Only good thing were cheaper oysters and scallops compared to GAO's.

Everything was so good. The worker was so nice and friendly to us as well. Good seating and music. The prices are actually super affordable as well!

Found this hidden gem at 8:30 pm because chubby skewers line was way beyond our expectations lol. Glad that we looked around and found this new place because they taste good and not too smelly because they cooked all the skewers in the kitchen. Located in one of busiest Colima plazas, this store was at a location where it used to be Mr Bossam's. Their seasoning is awesome, they don't have extra seasoning like other places, which is pros and cons because too much is not good for you either lol. Food came out quick but you have to be make sure if you order a lot, they don't really say which one is which. Old school Chinese pop songs were played, which I like. I like their ordering system because everyone just scan the QR code and online order it to our table. Parking could be very competitive because this plaza is always busy.

We recently tried this spot in Rowland Heights, and they had such a huge variety of bbq skewers we went a little overboard with our order Not only do they have bbq, they have several other dishes that compliment the grilled items perfectly. We tried: BBQ - Leeks, oyster mushroom, potato, tofu skin w/ veggies, house special lamb, chicken wings, beef, king of kings sausage, pork belly, and enchanting giant squid We got everything medium spicy for a nice kick Non BBQ Dongbei Cold Noodles Yunnan Fried Rice Noodles Cucumber Dipping Sauce Shenyang Cauliflower We took some risks because we didn't know what some items were on the menu, but we loved everything we got. The cucumber dipping sauce turned out to be cucumber sticks served with a miso-type fermented sauce for dipping and it was so tasty. Help me out if I'm wrong, but maybe the Shenyang Cauliflower is mislabeled on the ordering system? I don't think there was any cauliflower in there, and the picture was a plate of veggies. It looked good and what came out matched the photo - variety of pickled spicy cucumber, daikon, and carrots kind of like kimchi. So refreshing! Definitely get some noodles here - the cold noodles offset the heat from the bbq nicely. The Yunnan noodles look quite simple but really pack a surprising amount of flavor.

Service is excellent, environment is a cool and food is excellent. This is a must try place.

Everything is cooked over heated charcoal so there's no flame or grimey grills. This results in significantly less smoke and a very low risk of overcooking/burning your meat. Each of the little skewers is heated slowly on a rotating bicycle chain that twirls the meat for even cooking. It's super fun to watch--dinner and a show! Haha. Another plus is that the meat comes in bite sized portions, so no struggling to remove a hunk of meat from the stick and no need for knives! In essence, adult finger food or tasting menu that allows you to try everything. GUI has incredible variety, including lots of exotic meats: chicken gizzard, chicken heart, chicken cartilage, frog, etc. I'm not that adventurous and prefer not to deal with bones, so I stuck with the classics: pork belly, chicken, and bacon wrapped mushroom. Even though GUI is known for their bbq, they also serve tasty side dishes like oysters and cucumber salad. The restaurant is located on the second level of an Asian strip mall just off the 60 freeway. Parking can be challenging during dinner hours so go early. Another staff member was also unfriendly and gave attitude the entire time. I also did not appreciate being pressured about tipping. A tip should be optional and based on good service. If the service is poor, customers should not be made to feel uncomfortable or confronted over it. On top of that, they add extra charges when using a credit card, including a fee if you spend under $30. That already feels frustrating, but the bigger issue is the attitude and poor treatment from staff. Customers are the reason businesses stay open. No one is asking to be treated like royalty, but people come in to enjoy a meal and should at least be treated with basic respect.
