I can't believe I made it this far in life without trying 묵은지 감자탕. What an incredible combination! I've officially found a new craving. The portion was huge--loaded with tender, flavorful backbone meat--and the sour aged kimchi paired perfectly with it. We also tried the bossam, which came with thoughtful side dishes like cilantro, radish, and mungbean that complemented the pork belly beautifully. The belly had a subtle cinnamon note that really stood out and nicely cut through any potential gaminess. The service was excellent--our side dishes were refilled promptly, and the staff checked in regularly throughout the meal. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting, with generous spacing between tables. No doubt I'll be back!
Came here for some delicious tofu soup on a cold rainy night. The food took awhile to come out but it was definitely worth the wait. It was the right texture and had the right amount of spice. I will definitely be coming back!
OMG this is literally the BEST bossam I've ever had in my life! What makes theirs special is the accompaniments. They include a bean sprout salad, chive salad, and radish salad. All the textures and different flavors make the bossam wrap a perfect bite. Don't sleep on their seafood pancake either - it was super crispy and filled with seafood. I love this place so much I'm already planning when to come back. 10/10, highly recommend!
parking is abundant in a shared lot with the plaza! the restaurant is on the smaller end, but it has a cozy mom&pop shop feel. the food here was an instant 10/10. we ordered the cold noodles + galbi combo and of course the iconic pork belly (bossam). so flavorful & everything was cooked to perfection. the bonchon dishes were also so unique, yet cozy. we were served by on female server and she was so attentive and kind. id highly recommend jang ga nae to anyone looking for authentic, flavorful korean food! split between 3 people, we each paid around $30 after tip & tax.
Located behind the small plaza in the back, parking is available but if during prime dinner time, you may need a little luck.. Restaurant is quiet (no loud music or people talking loudly) and has a few tables and seats. Menu is simple and there is one server for the whole restaurant. For my friend and I, we ordered the Marinated Raw Crab and a Pork Stew. Food was delicious and plenty. The marinated raw crab spicy version has a kick and goes great with some rice. It was savory and messy but we were provided gloves. The pork stew was flavorful with generous meat and ingredient. Price was very good considering how full we got for what we ate. Service was good even though there was only one server for the whole restaurant. She was attentive and did get a little busy closer to dinner time. Would recommend. This is like the place to have some comfort soul Seoul Food.
Not sure why this place doesn't have booming business! The service and food was great! Truly a bang for the buck type of place! - marinated raw crab 5/5 - wish there was a little less veggies but the sauce is amazing! I normally can't handle very spicy food but the spice had a bit of sweetness to it. First time having marinated raw crab in a restaurant and it did not disappoint! - potato Pancake 5/5 - almost like a crispy veggie mochi. The texture is unbelievable if you are a texture person. Almost like the perfect cookie. Crispy around the outside and goes a little gushy towards the center - bulgogi 4/5 - I feel like they use better quality meat here. It's not as shredded and thin as most places I've been to. Could have used a bit more flavor - bonchon (korean side dishes) 5/5 - loved the few side dishes we got especially the seaweed noodle! Rarely get to see this anywhere else Plenty of parking in this lot, expect to spend about $30 a person and be plenty full
A cute little gem in Rowland Heights. I'm so happy I stumbled across this place. I told my friend that I was craving raw marinated crab - and let me tell you, this place did not disappoint. Between 2 people, we ordered the kimchi cold noodles, the spicy raw marinated crab, and the gamja kimchi tang. This was more than enough - the portions are generous & we had leftovers for the following day! The raw marinated crab was fresh and delicious - I love how they marinate it (almost felt as if I was eating a fusion between kimchi & raw crab). The kimchi cold noodles was one of the best I've ever had: delicious, flavorful, chewy! The kimchi gamja tang was amazing. The pork literally fell off the bone & I couldn't get enough! Highly recommend this place
Absolutely delicious gamjatang. Is a slightly spicy, very rich broth, vegetable and very tender pork soup. I highly highly recommend it. It's so rich in broth and savory. It's very much a comfort food. Service was really good and food came out relatively quick. Can't forget the side dishes, they were so good too.
The missus and I were looking for a new Korean place to try not too far from us and opted for this place. Easy to find and parking is pretty accessible. You could say it was pretty "desirable" (the street it's on is Desire Avenue lol). We were seated pretty quickly for a Saturday night and service was fast and efficient too. They kept consistent with refills and our orders. I ordered the bibimbap which was healthy and delicious, and offered a non spicy variant because I can't handle spicy and my missus ordered the short rib. Both came out pretty quick. It's not a huge place but there is decent seating and lighting. Will be back again.
Jang Ga Nae came highly recommended by my friend Ji O. I always trust Ji when it comes to Korean food, as her recommendation always comes through for me. I took my mom here for lunch and we tried a variety of dishes. My mom is a direct, straight-forward person, and she genuinely enjoyed most of what we ordered. The interior is pretty small so I can see how you may have to wait coming with a larger group. We came right at open but it got busy quickly after we were seated. Free soda with yelp check in deal! Potato Pancake ($12.99) - Probably the one item I wouldn't order again. The crispy edges were good, but the center was really gummy-textured, and it doesn't reheat well as a leftover. This is the one item we agreed we would reorder. Gamja-Tang ($17.99) - Really delicious and good amount of meat in the pork neck. Not too difficult to eat. However they barely had any potatoes, and I really like potatoes. Nevertheless still delicious. Soup was on soup. Pork Belly Wraps with Garlic Sauce ($45.99) - Wow the most colorful selection of accompaniments with the pork belly. Yummmm. This was glorious and my mom loved it. Beef Galbi ($29.99) - BBQ Beef Short Ribs. My mom doesn't normally like beef, but she really enjoyed this galbi. Very flavorful. This dish took a lot longer to come out than the others so we were pretty full by the time it came out. The one thing we didn't love was their ban chans. At any other Korean restaurants my mom would eat so much and ask for so many refills I would feel borderline embarrassment. However she barely touched it here cause she didn't like it. We had zeroooo refills. What a record. Service was very nice, but the lady seemed busy being the only person who was front of house staff. Love the food, not the sides... which is fine since those are complimentary. Will come back to get the dishes we enjoy the most, but it does come at a premium price.

This little spot is an amazing place to get warm Korean goodness with your friends! Came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty quiet, my friends and I were seated quickly and able to order quick. Service was great and food came fast! The food was soooo yum, I got the pork neck and kimchi stew which was so good, and we shared an order of garlic bossam. It was slightly sweet and so delicious. I would definitely recommend coming here.
First time here after my family raved about their traditional Korean food. I loved the freshness of the cold noodle soup, and it was my first time trying pork belly wrapped cabbage dish. Their appetizer side dishes that came with the pork belly dish and in the beginning were really devious. Flavor profiles had hints of salt, sweet, sour, spice all in the right places. I would definitely be back again!
Visited with my wife on a weekend (lunch) and we were seated immediately as there were available seating. First impressions is that the staff here is quick...when it's not busy. Why? There's only one staff member working the tables. We didn't get her name but she was compiling every table possible as it got packed during our meal. With that said, she was quick and didn't forget any of our requests for extra banchan, etc. Props to the service despite it being only one person. Parking - Free in a large shared lot, interior is also clean and has that traditional Korean vibe, very lovely. Food wise, my wife and I ordered 2 bowls of their naengmyeon (cold noodles) along with a potato pancake to share. Our food came out moderately quick (10 minute wait time~~) potato pancake first, then our noodles. Banchan here is standard to most KR restaurants, kimchi, cucumbers, fish cake. They also have this noodle vegetable type banchan that is unfamiliar to my wife and I but it was pretty delicious and very light. The cold noodles were exceptional, portions might be bigger than the standard cold noodles you get else where. With that said, the noodles weren't tough at all, very savory and refreshing. The vegetables + the half egg you get is just a bonus to the bowl of noodles, 10/10 would recommend. The potato pancake is something that I've tried for the first time. Usually we would opt for the seafood pancake but this time we decided to try something new. To my surprise, it's very well made. The pancake is sliced into 4 equal pieces, and it comes with a dipping sauce. I recommend trying out the dip as it adds most of the flavor to the pancake. Without the dip, it's similar to eating a sticky bun. My wife and I experimented with dipping the pancake into our cold noodle broth and surprisingly, IT WORKS. It creates that cold refreshing taste along with the savory of the pancake, could be a new thing ;) Overall, it was a wonderful experience, food is top quality and is consistent. Staff is efficient and quick, they could certainly have another person helping out to smooth out the process, but besides that, everything else is top notch. read more
Food 10/5: I was truly amazed by this place. My family finally convinced me to try this spot and definitely worth it. I would say this is the most authentic Korean food i've ever tried, even better than some restaurants in korea. The food is fresh and full of flavor, you can get by eating the sides alone. The bossam was the highlight of our meal, the pork was soft, tender and flavorful. I've never been a big fan of cold noodles but the slight sour taste makes you want more of it. service 5/5: our server was extremely kind. She made sure we were well taken care of. It was both our first time visiting this Korean restaurant, and we enjoyed the food on a weekend evening. Located in Rowland Heights Plaza, this is one of several eateries sharing a relatively small parking lot. The place is a little small, and we waited about ten minutes outside until a table opened; we looked at the menu plastered on the window in the meantime. We got the spicy cold buckwheat noodles ($16.99) and cabbage gamja-tang (spicy pork neck bone stew with potatoes) ($18.99). Both orders were generously portioned. They provided banchan (kimchi, pickled cucumbers, fish cakes, and white seaweed salad) at the same time as the gamja-tang. The spicy cold buckwheat noodles tasted really refreshing with a great blend of savory and sweet spice. The server cut my buckwheat noodles so that they could be easier to eat since they're long. Mustard and vinegar were also provided. Cucumbers were just the right vegetable to have with this dish. I tried a little bit of the gamja-tang, and it came with a lot of hearty pork. However, there were a lot of bones since the meat comes from pork neck. Overall, this is a solid Korean restaurant, and I'd want to visit again. They have lunch specials on the weekdays that allow you to order a combination of items. Service was also good as our server checked in on us a few times, and we were able to get more banchan. I didn't expect the restaurant to be busy when we visited, so I'll remember that there can be a wait for next time. read more

I come to this restaurant whenever I am craving gamjatang since they excel in the dish. I always leave feeling satisfied after eating at this place because the quality exceeds my expectations every time. In the picture, you can also see the amount of veggies given to us!The service is quick and the waitress is very friendly as well. This place sells raw marinated crab to take home as well but I haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping to purchase it the next time I visit and try it. Knowing how good the gamjatang is, I'm sure the raw marinated crab will be delicious as well! If you're looking for a high-quality restaurant to get your serving of authentic and delicious Korean food, this is your spot! read more
Got a late dinner here on Monday and the restaurant was not busy at all. The woman serving us was very attentive and kind and the restaurant is simple but elegant with nice stone tables and a spacious layout. We ordered a seafood pancake, galbitang, and a dduk manduguk and it was all very good! I would definitely come back and try the gamjatang - it seems like that's what they're known for. read more

food- great galbi. it was tender and marinated well. unlike some which seem pan fried this was nicely grilled with slight smoky flavor. bibimbap had a nicely flavored bulgogi that was cooked differently compared to most other ones i've had. to order the seasonal raw crab you have to call in advance to make sure they have it, but the spicy raw crab was available. service was fast and fine. the ambiance is cozy. read more

This was my first time trying these dishes and I was not disappointed! They were very friendly and welcoming when we arrived despite how busy it was. The banchan was delicious and some of the best Kimchi I've had! The raw marinated crab was delicious, I do wish we hadn't been given so many of the onions as it was difficult to find any actual crab pieces. The Bossam was delicious and flavorful! It was our favorite along with the cold buckwheat noodles. This place is worth a visit! read more

First time visit at Jang Ga Nae and oh my goodness this place did not disappoint! We had the Gamja Tang Casserole and the Seafood Pancake. We ordered the medium and it was a lot for two people but let's be honest... more is always better than not enough. This place is small and has a nice homey feeling to it. The lady who owns the place is very sweet and super attentive to her visitors. And not to be weird but she looks like she could be the lead actress in one of those popular k-dramas! I saw that this restaurant also sells raw marinated crabs. I believe you have to order ahead of time but I'm sure they are just as amazing as the rest of the food here. read more
I came here for the first time a couple days ago and I've been thinking about it since. I might go back again next week. There was only one server and she was so relaxed and orderly. The restaurant was stacked and busy. Every table to filled yet she was on it. Service was phenomenal. Food was fresh and hot, and the quality stood out on its own. One of the best authentic Korean restaurants. Although this restaurant is know for their pork soups, everything that I've tried here is excellent. I really enjoy eating bossam at this restaurant. The pork isnt overly cooked and it's nice and juicy. The nappa cabbage is just perfect with the marinated shredded carrots and bean sprouts and cilantro onions! Yummy read more
I came here this past Friday with my dad and brother. We were looking for something Korean and I found this spot on Yelp. It was a little restaurant that was minimally staffed. I believe there may have only been 3 employees at the most, 1 at the front and 2 in the back. Maybe even 2 only in total. Seeing the menu it was a fairly small assortment but all looked appealing. Some of the typical stuff like tofu soup and bulgogi but also their signature is gamjatang, one of my favorite soups. It is a somewhat spicy stew made with pork neck bones. We got the casserole version (gamja jeongol) in a large size which was just enough for 3 people who eat quite a bit. They gave four banchan (side dishes): kimchi, fish cake, some sort of crunchy white thing that looked noodle like that had a white sauce, and seaweed I think. All were decent. The stew itself was a beautiful mixture of stewed pork neck bones, mushrooms, whole stem perilla leaves, potatoes, and some more. The flavor was familiar and reminded me why it was my favorite soup with its homey feel. We did the common thing to mix in our rice to make fried rice at the end with the leftover stew. I saw they also sell marinated shrimp and crab as well, but apparently you have to pre order them on the second week of the month. I would love to come back to try those. overall it's a cute little restaurant with some quality homey food read more

We've been coming here for over 15+ years and it's been consistent year after year! It's our go-to place for the best Kimchi, Gamjatang and Bossam. The beef rib soup is good too. The banchans are spot on and always plentiful! Service is great! Liz is efficient and friendly. read more
I was mostly disappointed. I ordered the cold noodle with galbi combo, potato pancake and bulgogi bibimbap. I'm not sure if my poor experience was simply because I got this food as takeout as opposed to dine in, but the cold noodle dish was very difficult to eat. The buckwheat noodles were clumped together. I kept teasing at it, but I could not separate the noodles even after mixing it with the broth and pulling the noodles apart. I ended up discarding most of this because I couldn't separate the noodles. The broth was flavorful though 3/5 The potato pancake was the most disappointing thing. The texture was pretty awful. It was oily, lumpy and chewy. I expected something a bit crispy. Maybe that's my fault. I didn't finish this either. 1/5 I'll end with the positives of this experience. I enjoyed the variety of complimentary banchan. It was different from what is typically offered in my experience. I received a 4 fairly large side dish containers of marinated eggplant, seaweed, kimchi, and sliced fish cake. 4/5 I also liked the Galbi. It's hard to go wrong with short rib. My husband had the bibimbap. He rated his meal 3/5. He said it wasn't very flavorful. read more

It's been a while since I've eaten gamjatang so I wanted to try this place again. I got the lunch special gamjatang and spicy squid ($27.40). It was an individual bowl of tender pork neck bone soup and a small platter of spicy squid with several banchan on the side with a small bowl of white rice. The spicy squid came with plenty of chopped onions, carrots, zucchini with pieces of squid. The portion was a good size and the heat was not too much. The gamjatang had several tender pieces of pork neck bone with a good amount of meat on them, chunks of potatoes, soft pieces of napa cabbage, and ground wild perilla seed gave a nutty taste to the rick broth which was savory. They do have a yelp check-in for a can of soda. read more

I'm still dreaming about the meal I had here with my cousin. I had been wanting to try Korean marinated raw crab and we found this gem. Call ahead for the crabs because they have limited quantities. It's located within a random unassuming plaza (as most legit Asian food spots are) and a bit difficult to find - look out for the corner restaurant with a black banner on the outside. What we ordered: - #30. Soy Sauce Marinated Raw Crab (comes with 2) - #16. Soft Tofu Stew with Seafood + Galbi (BBQ Short Ribs) Entrees come with complimentary banchan (small side dishes). The fish cake dish was my fave and I asked for seconds. Everything we ordered was the perfect amount of food for us 2. Not too full, but deeply satisfied. The marinated raw crab is reminiscent of uni and if you're a fan of that texture/taste, then you'll love it! Definitely recommend this place and I can't wait to go back when I'm in the area again. read more

Traditional Korean restaurant that's super hard to find in the area given that everything is either tofu soup, Korean BBQ or Chinese fusion. Very solids flavors and dishes and the staff was AMAZING! I was there with my baby and they proactively moved our table around to fit a high chair and stroller, and totally saw that I needed to heat his food and brought out boiling water in multiple bowls.
