I was telling my friend that I haven't had Wet Beef Chow Fun forever, and it seems like most Canto restaurants don't offer this dish anymore. When she saw that MK BBQ cafe has it, she was so excited for me and we set a date to go. It was a Saturday, and being a local, my friend phoned in the order, knowing that the restaurant gets busy. Well she was right. Even though we called ahead coz we had a big order, we still had to wait about 40 minutes in the store for our food. While waiting, other waiting customers also expressed dissatisfaction about the wait. The restaurant is quite small, and only has a few tables crammed together. We ordered: Wet beef chow fun Seafood pan fried noodles Beef fried rice Braised tofu and fish fillet clay pot Soy sauce cuttlefish Roasted duck soy sauce pig stomach Mk Signature stir fry Pork chop Veggies Total was well over $200, which was a bit more than I expected. We liked the food here, it's Cantonese Comfort Food coming from an ABC American Born Chinese from California. The prices are a tad high, but we live now in 2026, so I have to realize that inflation from the past quarter century or longer has impacted the perception that a plate of Chow Mein or bowl of Won Ton costs more than the $3.95 of the 1980's and more than the $5.95-$8.95 of the 1990's and even more than the $10-12 of the early Y2K... so paying in the realm of $15-20 per entree I guess should be expected in 2026. The portions were good on the chow mein. The won ton soup (no noodles) came with 8 pieces of Won Ton which is average. I added roast duck but got the worst luck of the draw with the drumstick quarter (the best is the "breast" portion quarter) which comprised of a small piece chopped into 4 pieces that was lacking meat (skin and bones!!) and in hindsight, I should have skipped the duck or ordered a side dish of duck a la carte separate. The "To Go" was an interesting experience, as I ordered a 1/2 pound of Roast Pork (Siu Yuk) and true to Chinese butcher shop tradition, I should have said "I want $10 of Roast Pork" than what I said, which was "I want 1/2 pound of Roast Pork" as my mom told me whenever you order by weight, they tend to go way over that mark and assume it's okay, so what should have been $11 ended up being $18 and more like 3/4 pound than 1/2 pound so my own oblivious ignorance caused a 50% upsell. The biggest or oddest aspect was, for $18, the portion of what 3/4 lbs (12 oz) is, isn't that much. When you factor in the fat content and weight of the fat, there's not that much meat, and the "cracklin' skin" was good where it was, but was absent from portions of the serving, so I'd say I was disappointed overall in this. I think the rate was about $22/lb, which again in 2026 might make sense to be competitive FMV fair market value, but growing up in the 1990's as a consumer, seems too high to the good 'ol days of 30-40 years ago... again, nobody's fault by misguided perception by folks who are 50-60+ years old in 2026. I'd come back here, but would order differently. read more

They also have to-go specials for a three-item lunch box, only $6.99, or three-treasures rice with salted duck egg for $9.99. At 12:45 PM today, July 7th, I encountered a middle-aged cashier with a terrible attitude. A while back, after making a purchase, I asked her for a receipt; she didn't respond the first time, so I asked again. She then snapped at me loudly, "Can't you see I'm busy?" I let it slide back then. Today, after buying something, I asked for a receipt again. She ignored me the first time, and when I repeated my request--adding a "thank you"--she still ignored me. I just stood there waiting, and when she finally noticed me, she asked what I wanted. I told her I needed a receipt, please. She responded rudely, asking why I hadn't said so earlier. I was left speechless; I *had* said it several times, but she had completely ignored me. The seafood chow mein was crispy and flavorful. The Chinese broccoli with satay beef was tender. The roasted pork and duck were both crispy and juicy! The total for all this came out to about $58 before tax and tip. The meats were a bit too salty for our liking but it was still good! They give a free bowl of chicken soup for each person as an appetizer. Service was great and we received our food quickly. The restaurant is a bit small and had a limited amount of tables. Service is a complete joke. I preordered several dishes through a third-party app. The restaurant accepted the order and gave me an estimated pickup time. I arrived after that time and asked if my order was ready. The lady at the front simply said, "No, not ready." When I asked what she meant, she said there was no one in the kitchen. I asked, "What do you mean no one is working in the kitchen?" She said they were off. I asked until what time, and she couldn't give me an answer -- just said, "I don't know, just wait" and then proceeded to ignore me. I asked if she could cancel the order since clearly no one was preparing it. She told me I could cancel it myself on the app. The entire time she was "speaking" to me, she made absolutely no eye contact, as if I didn't exist. I don't expect over-the-top customer service, but this level of unprofessionalism and disregard for customers is outrageous. I came here with my family (total of 4 people) early on a Saturday evening right before New Years and were seated promptly. The front of the store sells their delicious roasted duck separately, while the back of the restaurant is the sit down area. The owner and other workers were very accommodating and we were able to order and get our food very quickly. We ordered the yang chow fried rice, shrimp wonton noodle soup, 1/2 steamed chicken, and 1/2 roasted duck. The meat was so tender and delicious, especially the duck - the semi-sweet sauce they provided as dipping sauce especially enhanced the flavor. I'm also a fan of steamed chicken and my only complaint is to beware of the little bone bits (I'm sure every seasoned steamed chicken enjoyer would understand). The fried rice was also full of flavor, and my mom especially loved the wonton noodle soup. Overall, I'd love to come back for their duck the most - I was so enamored that I ordered another 1/2 to go at the front of the store. I've been searching for a place like MK BBQ Cafe and here it is - the BBQ cafe of my dreams. All I really want when I'm ordering from one of these places is a combo plate. Give me some BBQ pork and some roasted duck over rice plz. Most places do a good version of one of the two. And most places are very pricey. At MK Cafe, a two item on rice is only $12.99! I chose the roasted duck and crispy roast pork. Both were very moist and tender. The pork skin was also nice and crispy. Hands down my favorite BBQ plate. On a recent visit, I tried the minced beef with egg ($16.99). Their version of this dish is very wet. It's much saucier than any other version I've ever tasted. I appreciated it, but I do think I prefer the drier version of this dish. I did, however, likedthe addition of the diced bell peppers. It helped enhance the overall flavors of the dish. The cashier has bad attitude , borderline trying to scam you. You want a certain item at certain pounds, say you want half a pound, the lady will grab a whole pound for you and charge you that. Pressure tactic, and she will chalk it up as their food is good so it's ok to buy more, which is a stupid argument. If you cannot sell by a certain weight then don't sell it, just don't grab and say this is what it is.
