This is the first Chinese bbq skewer place that I've eaten at. And I loved it! It's fun, tasty, and overall, a lot cleaner dining experience than traditional kbbq or jbbq. Everything is cooked over heated charcoal so there's no flame or grimey grills. This results in significantly less smoke and a very low risk of overcooking/burning your meat. Each of the little skewers is heated slowly on a rotating bicycle chain that twirls the meat for even cooking. It's super fun to watch--dinner and a show! Haha. Another plus is that the meat comes in bite sized portions, so no struggling to remove a hunk of meat from the stick and no need for knives! In essence, adult finger food or tasting menu that allows you to try everything. GUI has incredible variety, including lots of exotic meats: chicken gizzard, chicken heart, chicken cartilage, frog, etc. I'm not that adventurous and prefer not to deal with bones, so I stuck with the classics: pork belly, chicken, and bacon wrapped mushroom. Even though GUI is known for their bbq, they also serve tasty side dishes like oysters and cucumber salad. The restaurant is located on the second level of an Asian strip mall just off the 60 freeway. Parking can be challenging during dinner hours so go early. GUI has delicious Chinese bbq skewers, and as previous reviewers mentioned, the usage of a charcoal grill reduces the smoke/post-bbq scent from getting on your clothes, and you don't need to ask any of the staff for a "grill change". Service was fine, but probably better if you're seated in the main area. Our group was seated in the corner closer to the entrance and it was sometimes hard to get refills on water/drinks. We ordered enough so that each person had about 10-12 skewers, and I'd say that was the perfect amount for our group. Overall good, would definitely return! We liked that we get it cook it on our own but sometimes I get worried if it's cooked well for eating. The Dan Dan noodle didn't have soup base but it tasted really good! My cousin introduce me to this place and I have been coming back whenever I'm cravings for skewers. Its located in a big plaza with a good amount of parking. Gui BBQ is located on the second floor. The space is big. They also have yelp waitlist! You wait to be called and you sit with a rotating grill in front of you. The workers come around and help you cook the meat. You basically just sit back and wait for the food to be done. I always get the premium pork belly and premium beef skewers. They come in four or ten sticks. I would suggest going for the 10 sticks each. The marinade on the meat is delicious. I can order a bowl of rice and these meats and I'll know my dinner with be great. GUI BBQ Restaurant & Bar has a huge menu with plenty of variety, but overall the experience felt pretty standard BBQ. Loud music/big TVs, so probably good for big group gatherings - not a casual weeknight dinner. The meat skewers, while decent, were noticeably overpriced for the portion and quality, so it didn't feel like the best value. Service was hit or miss, some staff were attentive, while others seemed a bit checked out. It's an okay place to try if you're curious about Chinese skewers bbq, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to return. read more

I went to Gui for dinner during the holidays. One of the initial suggestion was Chubby Skewer, but I figured the line was going to be super long. The best thing about Gui is that they take reservations, so we opted for Gui. I went on a Friday evening, but maybe it was because it was holiday, there were hardly anyone at the restaurant when I initially came in (but it filled up pretty quickly throughout the time that I was there). For the skewers, you can order a la carte. The grill was pretty cool because the skewers automatically turned. I tried various skewers, including lamb and beef. I think my favorite was definitely the beef (just personally because I am not a huge fan of lamb). I ordered a few additional skewers of the beef. Skewers mostly comes out in 4's. There were also non-skewer items that you could order. My favorite was the cucumber salad. Aside from the food, which was pretty good, the price was pretty comparable to other skewer places and the service was very good. I would definitely come back here next time I am craving some skewers. read more
