Came for early dinner to avoid the crowd since we have little kids. The place was about 1/3 full only and some families like us as well. During happy hour the lamb skewers are just $1 each, however, they were hard to chew and over seasoned(which were expected), the system (QR CODE that takes you to the ordering system) isn't really easy to use , it wasn't until we asked the staff to finally figure out what to press in order to modify or request certain things such as "no spicy" since some are for the little kids. But even when you request no spicy(such as for the fried buns), still came with seasonings that kids find to be spicy and refused to eat, so need to watch out for that or maybe just ask for certain things to be prepared without any seasoning as well(though I am sure their target audience isn't families but probably younger people). There was a $38 off deal if you are first time customer(which I am) but decided not to complete it since it was pretty confusing as one of the last requirements was to scan the QR code from the table and post the review then screenshot and upload the image... however there wasn't anything asking you to review after scanning the QR CODE, instead the QR code took me to sign up for membership....usually when you run into a problem you ask the staff, but no, they asked that you don't let the staff before you check out... it was quite confusing I decided not to deal with it. Now back to the food, the noodle dish was either good portion, though pretty salty. The beef tongue was a thin slice but still very hard to chew. The beef skewers were better than the lamb skewers and preferred over the lamb by a landslide. The staff was trained to probably follow a huge list of things they must ask/tell/promote but there was no smile or the feeling that they really want to help you. Will not be returns with kids. Come here during happy hour to get your skewer cravings!! ($1 skewers ends at 6:30) They are flavorful, smokey, tender, and just the right amount of fatty. The meat quality is great and even in a lamb skewer there is little to no gamey flavor. I also like how there are the seasonings on the side too to add a kick of spice or the classic skewer seasoning. The Cajun crawfish was delicious as well. Medium spice was a good kick but I can do spicier. Even though they ran out of live crawfish, the normal crawfish still hot the spot for me. My service was actually excellent as well. They explained the menu so well and took the time to talk about the specials. Constantly checking in on us and really making Gao's enjoyable dining experience. We've ordered DoorDash delivery from this place a couple times. The food was packaged very well. They have a big menu with a lot of comfort items. We have tried special crawfish, grilled tilapia, dumpling soup, soy sauce fried rice, sesame cold rice noodles and Korean cold noodles. Everything we ate was pretty good. Upon arriving to our table we were given sunflower seeds and some edamame. You order by scanning a QR code and add to cart and submit as you want to order more. Today, I decided to switch things up and try Gao's Crab & Kabob, mostly drawn in by their happy hour special featuring $2 Wagyu beef and lamb skewers. A quick heads-up on the happy hour: when you add it all up, it is actually not a super crazy deal because that $2 price tag only gets you ONE individual skewer. That being said, the meat pieces here are much bigger compared to Little Skewer. While you can't always expect top-tier, premium meat quality at every skewer place, the quality here was totally decent and acceptable. A nice bonus was the free appetizers they brought out--sunflower seeds, edamame, and peanuts, which made for a great snack while waiting. Gao's Crab was full by 7:30 with live music. Most tables were small, good for parties of 2-4, but I saw a couple of tables reserved for up to 6. The vibes were fun with neon signs on the walls. Service was decent, though we didn't need much interaction with the staff since we ordered through mobile QR code. Our table finished when the restaurant got busy, so I walked to the front to request the check. DRINKS ORDERED - Homemade Yogurt Soju. The bottle was smaller than a standard carafe. It tasted good, like Yakult mixed with soju. The alcohol content might have been on the lower side. - Homemade Grapefruit Soju. The grapefruit juice was on the bitter side and not as sweet. It masked the taste of the soju even more. SKEWERS ORDERED Many items were topped with white sesame seeds. I enjoyed the taste of the BBQ seasoning (cumin, tangy, and a little sweet). All the meats had nice smoky flavor. - Mini Chicken Skin ($7.80 - 10 skewers). I enjoyed the paper thin cuts of skin, which were crispy but not difficult to chew on. - Small Lamb with Fat ($9 - 5 skewers). Surprisingly, I preferred the lamb to the beef. The lamb didn't taste gamey, and it was cooked well - soft on the inside with a crispy sear. - Small Beef with Fat ($9 - 5 skewers). The taste was fine, but the meat was a bit overcooked. - Beef Tongue ($3.58 - 3 skewers). If you like beef tongue, you'll probably like this. They slice it thin so it's relatively soft, but it still has the chewiness of tongue. - Pork Kidney ($3.58 - 5 skewers). I didn't try this, but my friend who likes offal thought it was yummy. - Chicken Gristic ($3 - 1 skewer). Small, juicy pieces of dark meat chicken with a soft center of something similar to cartilage, but not as much substance. My favorite part about lamb skewers is that they're normally succulent and fatty. These were a little chewy but the flavor was still good so of course I ate them all. The Dan Dan noodles were a little different from what I'm used to, they were more acidic than sesame forward, as well as a little more liquid but I really liked it. This is located in Diamond plaza which has a super busy parking lot, but we got lucky and parked right in front. They have happy hour every day until 6:30pm if I'm remembering correctly so the lamb skewers are $1 each and the wagyu skewers are $2 each as long as you follow them on instagram. They had a QR code for us to scan so you order through the website. You can't change your order through the website after clicking submit, but we caught our waiter in time to change it for us which was nice No wait on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty. Since it's more of a bar type place though, I'm sure it's more lively at night and I'd be down to come back later in the day to chill with friends. I would say the happy hour menu is def worth coming earlier though. My wife and I wanted to try a new seafood restaurant with my mother. After doing some searching we stumbled upon GAO's crab and kabob that is located within the Diamond Plaza. We walked in and were immediately seated. This place was nearly packed for a Tuesday which surprised us, but after eating here I understand the hype. The interior of the restaurant had a decent spacing between tables and there was beautiful LED signs spread throughout the restaurant. There was also a nice KPOP playlist that was playing in the background. Our server Gin was friendly, attentive to our needs and very quick. The menu is a QR code that you scan from the table and there is a portal where you place your order. We ordered the Super Combo which is the SnowCrab Lobster Tail Date Night Combo and it was enough for the three of us. I ordered Mild Spice and it packed just enough kick not to be overwhelming. The combo included cold Dan Dan noodle, snow crab, lobster, sausages, chicken skin skewers, lamb skewers and beef skewers. We also added the garlic oysters as well. Came on a Saturday night and there was no wait. This is yet another Chinese skewer restaurant with a hired karaoke singer until 9ish and then they play music videos. The volume of the music is quite loud but if you like kpop/cpop it's great. We ordered a whole lot of skewers. My favs were the pepper steak, lamb, chicken skin and beef tongue. It's relatively inexpensive for a lot of food. All of the ordering is done on the app and there's aren't really descriptions so we had to call someone over a few times. I went here to celebrate my best friend's birthday and it was great! My favorite foods were definitely the skewers which makes sense because that's what they're known for. The lamb skewers were a crowd favorite amongst our group because they were really juicy. The crab boil wasn't bad for the price but be prepared because the Szechuan is really strong and might not be everyone's cup of tea.
