Whenever I call to place an order, NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. EVER! I called as I was driving there. While on the phone just ringing away, no answer, I parked then walked in LAPE and what do I see?!? Some obese cashier woman sitting on a stool doing absolutely nothing while ignoring the phone. Add to that, she did not greet me after I came in and just sat there looking at me. I ordered one of the lunch specials- 2 pieces of fried chicken, which came with two sides. When I got home, almost 20 minutes later, the food was still hot. The chicken was crispy and not dry. The portions of the sides were large. Sweet potatoes were not overly sweet, and soft but not mushy. The cabbage had just a little bit of spice- again, it was nice, and not too hot. The lunch specials are $11, and it was a great value for the price. I'll be going there again, and I look forward to trying other menu items. read more

I live less than a mile from this location in Warren and was excited to see a "soul food" restaurant close by. This is my second review because I am once again disappointed. I went this past weekend and order a baked chicken dinner with dressing and black eye peas. The chicken was delicious. Neither the black eye peas nor the dressing were fully cooked. The peas were still crunchy and the dressing was still a bit gritty. I tried calling them after I got home and no one answered....so I threw out my sides and considering they charge an extra .50 for a teaspoon of cranberry sauce, this was an expensive waste. I have given up trying to taste/order their meat loaf. I have been there at least 10 times and I am told by everyone and even the man who I thought to be the owner at one point said they would get meatloaf at this location. Why have it on the menu and never offer this as an option? read more

Co worker told me about Lapes in Warren about 4yrs ago, since then it's one of my daughter's, mine and my 2 g'sons, ages 7 and 22, ​favorite places to grab food from, no inside dining. The food is amazing, I unfortunately am stuck on the rib tips, greens and yams so that's all I've had so far, soooo soooo good, the kids have enjoyed everything they've ordered, Lapes never disappoints. I don't review restaurants off of one experience because I do believe anyone and anything can have an off day. However, after repeatedly visiting this restaurant I have come to the conclusion that the attitude of the individual regularly working the cash register is simply HORRIBLE. I've had a few experiences with her now from the first time I went in and stood at the register scrolling through her phone and she didn't say anything....not could I help you, not welcome, she said NOTHING and didn't even look up. Then I ordered a beverage and asked her how to get it once I received my food order and she agitatedly pointed to a refrigerator behind her. Like it was obvious that you should step behind the counter and open up a commercial looking refrigerator as a guest at the restaurant to get your drink. SMH A few other times I've gone to the restaurant and asked her if they had different items and she pointed to the stagnant menu that doesn't appear to be updated daily....then when I ask for something that is on the menu she seemed agitated that I asked for it and told me they didn't have it.....simply confusing. They didn't notate on the menu what they didn't have anymore so how was one to know....:: On my last and final experience I pulled up in the extremely small parking lot and the storefront door was propped open and I saw the open sign still on and it was 7:48 pm. I walked to the door and literally as I was stepping through the door, the cashier grabs the door and pulls it closed and says we are closed. I asked her what time did they close and she aggressively said 8 pm. The restaurant was empty and as I checked the time when I got back in my car it was 7:51 pm. If this wasn't the only soul food restaurant close to me I would have given up a long time ago. But the market is ripe for someone to come in and change the game by providing a good service experience along with good food. read more

Just went here once for carry out. The baked chicken was amazing. Very homemade taste. The corn bread, mashed potatoes and green beans were great too. Huge portions - one meal is enough for up to 3 or 4, depending on appetite. Very nice pleasant and efficient staff. Ready to go in 15-20 minutes. I will definitely go back. We love to support local restaurants and I particularly look for ones that are black owned to patronize during COVID. We loved the food freshness and flavors at Lape and it's not too far out of the way for us to frequent here. Looking forward to trying more entrees we had the family meal that came with chicken and catfish fillets with yams and Mac n cheese as our side it also came with cornbread muffins! HEADS UP: If you don't call in your order, you will be waiting 20-25 minutes depending on the order. The chicken and fish are all made to order but this means they're hella hot and perfect when you walk out with your meal. The hot sauce you can order (or sometimes they offer when they bag up your take out) is Frank's Red Hot. The portions are just right for the price, especially the sides. When I test out soul food I go for my usual can't miss favorite. Mac and cheese, yams and fried chicken. I ordered a lunch portion. The wait time of 15 minutes was pretty quick. Drove home couldn't wait to dig in. Fried chicken was a little salty be very decent overall. The mac and cheese was bland as well as the yams. Tried Lape last Saturday. Ordered the Short Ribs which had been cut thin and cooked fast which made them as tuff as shoe leather, had no taste and were as dry as a bone. The dressing was the worst I have ever had, but the potatoes were OK. I could not finish my short ribs and am throwing them out today. None of the other three I was eating with complained about but the person who ordered the chicken did not finish one piece and the person who ordered the fried pork chop eat less than a half of one. Buffett style setup where you can see your food as they prepare it for you so no need to rush unless your ordering fried chicken or fish which is a super plus in my book. I've tried almost everything except oxtails and catfish. I'm not big on homemade macaroni so I'll stay neutral on that. The meatloaf (when available) was the not so tastiest dish I've had here. The green beans with potatoes usually comes with potatoes. Sometimes I only get 1 piece of a potato in it but other than that pretty good eats here. Friendly customer service and a very clean establishment. The reason for only 3 stars is the fact that even though I'm not big on the meatloaf it to 3 visits to try it and I come here no later than 11 am everytime and the place opens at 10:30!
