3 plantains hiding under the 3 oxtails
    Nay W.

Ordered a small jerk oxtails. The gentleman who took my order was VERY soft spoken, and competing with the tv & music playing in back. I believe i heard beans & rice, plantain & cabbage were the sides. Once paid, card costs more than cash ($18.01), i was told 15min. Received my order in less than 15 min. The oxtails are so tender, you can pull the meat off with a flimsly plastic fork. The jerk spice isn't spicy but my lips were slightly tingly. The cabbage is tangy & good. Tiny amount of plantains were DELICIOUS. (3 slices). The rice has a flavor im having difficulty describing but i enjoyed eating it. Next time, & there Will be a next time, ill order a large And a side of plantains.

    "Ting" grapefruit soda.

This place is The Jamaican Pot I thought the food was tasty But the ambiance could be cleaner. The curry goat tasted like it had been on the warmer all day. But was still tasty. The jerk chicken was good. The cabbage was delicious and the " Ting " a grapefruit soda really delicious and refreshing. Let's not forget the plantain. The lady at the counter taking my order was super nice and patient with a smile. The only thing I will say is the place needs a cleaning and location might have you looking over your shoulder . But flavorful Jamaican food you must try.

I have always wanted to try this place and I finally got the opportunity to do so. I have never had oxtail before and several people have told me to try it from here. I decided to order the jerk chicken with oxtail rice and peas, plantains and cabbage. I placed my order online, which was very convenient. When I walked in to pick up my food, I was nicely greeted and was able to get my food right away. The place is small carry out only. They also had beef patties on display something I did not see on the online menu so I ordered a couple of those. When I made it back home, my food was hot still and the food was very good along with the beef patties. So much flavor it made me feel like I was back in Jamaica. I can't wait to come back again!!

All the food website has this place listed as a top 5 Jamaican spot in Detroit so I try it out. I never had Jamaican food before but the chicken taste very good, chicken is marinated pretty well. The ratings are not wrong. Triple delight you can try 3 types of chicken in your plate. Price can be cheaper but I am still thinking about 2020 prices. Beef patties are great too, they are not greasy. Too bad they never have chicken patties every time I walk in. I don't have a problem with service or food portion so far ( I do tip like $1, $2 ) every time so maybe why .

Some of the best Jamaican food I've ever had. I'm constantly craving the jerk chicken from here and I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often. The seasonings are always on point and the heat level is perfect. The medium portion of jerk chicken is enough to feed two people and still have leftovers afterwards! My only complaint is that the wait time is never accurate. We always show up 10-15 minutes after our order is supposed to be ready and usually end up having to wait longer for our order. The food is definitely worth the wait, I just hope they can improve their process.

The food here is DELICIOUS!! This pic is from our first visit here when we ordered two combos- we were super impressed!! Everything was delicious, but the curried goat was definitely our favorite!! On our 2nd visit we ordered an extra large 2-meat combo and we're surprised and disappointed that it was equal to just one of these standard-sized styrofoam containers for nearly double the price (and not enough for two hearty appetites. So just make sure you order correctly and you're sure to be happy.

A MUST WHEN IN THE CITY! I will travel through knee high snow and terrible weather for this food! It's soooo good! I get the jerk salmon and it's gone immediately - I have to get 2 pieces next time, haha! The staff are nice and very conversational which is nice in the restaurant business - especially because there isn't any seating inside the location. You have to try this food! Amazing!

Curry! Chicken??? However it's not chicken. Boneless chicken doesnt seem as authentic as suggested. Bring back the real chicken with bones, and you guys are solid! Authentic means authentic!!!!! The cabbage needs work. I'll comeback and try again. Hopefully some changes will be made to improve things. Real chicken juices mix well with the curry. This tastes like straight curry sauce no flavor of juices from the chicken whatsoever.

It's a small carry out spot. A rather high counter top where you order and cash out. Makes for signing the credit card fun. Looks less than appealing on the outside and the inside too. My husband wanted to run for the hills upon getting a sight of the inside. We ordered the triple chicken: jerk, BBQ and curry chicken. It comes with side of rice and peas, plaintains and cabbage. I got an extra side of cabbage. It's not fast food and takes a bit of time, food is prepared fresh to order. Takes about 15-20 minutes. Better and more efficient to have an idea of what you want since it can get crowded in here and there's not a lot of room if the lines long at all. It's been 16 minutes, only order 11 is out. We are order 17. No pagers here, you just have to wait. 22 minutes, no more orders out yet. The woman that has order 14 has been here for almost 30 minutes now. 35 minutes later and order 14 and 15 are out. It's all out of order, it seems. A few minutes later and finally our order was called. We were never told how long our food order might take. Had no inclination it would take so long. My husband was very reluctant to order food from here at all, after seeing the inside store upon entry. He wanted to leave as soon as we crossed the threshold. He said he sensed the kitchen wasn't the cleanest and wasn't certain if he would be eating the food even. The curry chicken wasn't bad, the jerk chicken and the BBQ chicken are better. They don't give big portions of any of the 3 items. Mostly beans and rice on the bottom, below the meats. The jerk chicken has a bit of kick, it's not bad. It was the better of the three. The cabbage is really bland, regretting the added side of it now. Added Tabasco to give it a bit of flavor. The plaintains are sweet, as expected. The wait here was much longer than expected, even for a nice sit down restaurant, which, this clearly is not. The food overall wasn't bad, the jerk chicken was the best of the triple chicken. The cabbage wasn't worth the money. As long as you are prepared to wait at least an half hour or longer for your food, it's not half bad then.

The Jerk Chicken and beef Pattie's the only thing I get it's so delicious

I have consistently come here to get food throughout the years and it has been so rewarding to continue to see Yum Village be such a pillar in the city and in the food industry! The service here is incredible, you don't bus anything yourself. I also noticed that the staff that day was all women, from everyone front of house to the chefs in the back as well preparing the food, which was extra fun! They are so attentive to us and even when there was a snaffoo with on of my party's orders. They paid with cash and I think perhaps that messed up the tracking of the order through the system? I'm not entirely sure. As for the food, Yum Village has maintained some of the same dishes throughout the years, while also adding and/or rotating a ton of other dishes through the menu. I can definitely confirm that the garlic parm jerk chicken remains my favorite and that the spice level, while still plentiful and intense, has eased up a bit in recent years. Either that or that I have become more spice heat-tolerant! Either way, the portions also remain huge, so there was a ton of food to take home! I love the truffle collard greens, the deeply unique and flavorful corncakes, and also the star of the show this go around was the deliciously complex fried cheesy fufu! It oozes so much flavor and is the perfect addition to any meal and very shareable as well! Keep up the great work, Yum Village!!

We ordered on the tablet they have at the front counter and sat down to wait for the food to be delivered to our table. They did have happy hour going, but I don't recommend it. The drinks weren't good honestly. Not sure what was being mixed but the liquor didn't taste right. We both had the Classic Village Meal (Jerk Chicken, jollof rice, and plantains). It was good food. I loved how the jollof rice and plantains were well prepared and hot. The jerk chicken wasn't served as hot as the rice and plantains so I think they had a timing issue in the back, so that was disappointing. There is a lot of food, so we were able to take home half and have it for breakfast the next morning. We also tried to the jerk taco and it was good and hot, but awkward to eat because there so much on top and it was just falling off as I was trying to pick it up and take a bite.

It's located in a small building set back from the main road, and the lighting is dim, so you might miss it if you're not careful. The parking lot is also quite small. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly. The employees are behind bulletproof glass, but don't let that discourage you from enjoying one of the best meals ever! The server was kind and patient as I decided what to order. After a quick phone call, I ordered a jerk chicken meal with double rice and peas, and a curry goat meal with greens and rice and peas. The friendly gentleman informed me it would take about 10 minutes, and my food was ready exactly as promised. I always check my food before leaving any place, and everything looked and smelled amazing. The portions were generous for the price, and we could have shared a meal, but I was craving their curry goat! Since we didn't have far to drive, we started eating right away before heading home. The jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned, and all our food was fresh and piping hot. The rice and peas were tender and flavorful. However, I must say that the curry goat was the star of the show! It was tender and moist with just the right amount of spice. My body isn't usually fond of spicy foods, but this had the perfect kick. No extra seasoning was needed on anything! We both thoroughly enjoyed our dinners and couldn't finish even a fourth of either one. Wow, what an incredible takeout experience we had from this hidden Caribbean gem! It's tucked away in a small, dimly lit building off the main road--you might miss it if you're not paying attention. The parking lot's pretty tiny, but trust me, the food is 100% worth it! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with such warmth. Sure, the staff works behind bulletproof glass, but that didn't take away from how friendly and welcoming they were. The server was super patient while I took my time deciding. After a quick call with my bae, I ordered the jerk chicken with double rice and peas, plus a curry goat meal with greens and more rice and peas. The awesome guy at the counter said it'd be ready in 10 minutes, and guess what? Right on the dot! Of course, I had to check our food before leaving--habit--and oh my gosh, it looked and smelled AMAZING. Huge portions too; honestly, we could've shared, but there was no way I was passing on that curry goat! We couldn't even wait to get home--we dug right in. The jerk chicken? Mind-blowingly good. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with flavor. The rice and peas? Tender, flavorful, and just the right texture. But let me tell you, the CURRY GOAT stole the show! Tender, moist, with the perfect hit of spice--I usually can't handle spicy food, but this was just right. No extra seasoning needed, not even a sprinkle. We were both in foodie heaven and couldn't even finish a fourth of our meals because the portions were that generous. If you're craving authentic Caribbean flavors that'll blow your mind, this spot is a MUST. Don't miss it--seriously, your taste buds will thank you!

First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.
