It's SO hard to find a good soul food place and after reading some of the comments here, I had to give this place the rating it deserved for the price and the quality of the 2 Friday specials I ordered today. I had 3 whole wings with mac and cheese and rib tips with greens. First, the rib tips, sauce and greens were delicious. My only note is that the rib tip portion given had 4 nice pieces but the remaining was just remnants including fat and bone that should be discarded. The whole wings were fried and seasoned well and while the mac and cheese was tasty, it was lots of cheese and not as much mac as I would expect (some people might like that). The customer service was also decent, she did not mind explaining to me what was included and that the portions were smaller for the specials which I did not mind for the value. Ordered three-piece perch dinner with mac & cheese; collard greens; and dressing.Also, pork chop dinner with mac & cheese and cabbage. Perch was crispy fried but, very bland in taste. Pork chops were not fried crispy; pork chop themselves were wet under soft mushy flour breading. Mac & cheese consistency and presentation was there, but lacking and taste. The cabbage was cooked very but, also bland in taste. The greens were very tasty and cooked to a tender texture. The dressing was very tasty and somewhat close to homemade . I truly hate to leave a review as a chef and restaurant owner it saddens me to do so, however this was some of the worst displays of "soul food" ive ever experienced! I ordered the half slab dinner w/ mac, greens & yams. $40 down the drain The Ribs: One Word, WOULDN'T FEED THEM TO MY DOG!!!! These were over charred, tough & honestly inedible. Very upsetting considering I dont even eat pork but i had a lil craving so I decided to give them a shot! The mac: it was try and flavorless, the gritty, broken down texture of the cheese tastes as if it sat in a steam well all day then was reheated the next day. 1/10 The yams: Oily and clearly out of a can but overall not terrible. 6/10 The Greens: Over cooked & bland! Ambiance was ok. Would like to have seen just a lil more. Just a bunch of red every where. Service was good. They greeted you early and kept you up to date on the process. Food was ok at best. I ordered pork chops for myself with Mac n Cheese and yams and greens. The dinner came with 4 pork chops and 2 sides for 18.99. I ordered my wife a half slab and it came with man n cheese and baked beans. The review: Pork chops were tender however no seasoning whatsoever. Ribs were decent but the sauce tasted like Open Pit. Mac N cheese not seasoned at all. Baked Beans my wife says were over cooked and extremely stiff. Yams were extremely oily and not sweet. My pup loved them though. Greens were a bit gritty for me. The cornbread was decent. Overall I would give them a 5.5 out of 10. Don't know if this was a bad day, so I may give them another shot in the future. read more

The food here is so good. The menu covers all the basics you would want for good soul food, dressing, greens, mac and cheese, pound cake, etc. Fast carry out and very clean lobby. Located right outside a residential neighborhood of Mt. Clemens, off of Harrington and Gratiot. I ordered the baked chicken dinner with dressing, mac and cheese. I also ordered the ribs with dressing and greens. Cornbread came with both dinners. My Dad and I enjoyed our meals, the seasoning was on point too, unlike a lot of bbq places in Macomb County. This place has only been open for 3 years, I totally didn't know it existed because I usually drive to Detroit from northern Macomb county to get good soul food (that I didn't have to make myself). Grrrr! It pains me to write reviews about food when you wish the place would succeed! However, had I paid attention to the lady who said Mac N Cheese was bland and her chicken was soggy I would not have wasted 12.70 today! I ended up passing this place twice trying to figure out how to get in so that I could park. So it's not in a convenient location. I arrived and it smelled soo good! I couldn't wait to taste the sides and the fried chicken! I ordered two lunch specials so I wouldn't have to go back out later on in the evening, I had Mac n cheese and collards as my sides and both meals came with cake like dry cornbread. The fried chicken wings were soggy like the grease wasn't hot enough to make it crispy just cooked. They were also super bland not seasoned at all!! The collards were sweet which shocked me because I thought they were supposed to be savory! The Mac n cheese was the worst of all my foods. Spooned into a styrofoam container then to be microwaved and my styrofoam melted onto the Mac! So it left a weird taste! The Mac was also really mushy like it had been reheated several times not al dente nor just right damn near like mashed potatoes! Does this place need work? YES! Take this as constructive! Increase the heat on your fryer, fry the chicken longer to get crispy skin because I don't know not one person who likes soft chicken skin! Up your seasoning game on your collards let them soak in ham hocks and oxtail! Remove your noodles at least 3-4 minutes before they get done if you plan on re-heating th to avoid mushy Mac n cheese and for the love of souls food, use some damn seasoning!!!!!!! I just ordered an 8 piece wing dinner with fried okra and Mac a rib tip dinner (because they didn't have short ribs) with greens and Mac and a piece of strawberry cake because that's all they had. What I got was 6 chicken wings with absolutely no seasonings in the dry mix and 2 chicken tenders with no sides. With the rib tips I got just cabbage instead of collard greens. We live about 25 minutes away and I salivated at how good the food smelled as the bags sat on my thigh.. I was about to tear my food up in the car lol. We get home and I'm making everyone's plate.. as a teaser I took a bite into one of the chicken wings.. immediately I could determine there was ZERO FLAVOR on and the skin was soggy I HATE SOGGY CHICKEN!!!! I pulled as much skin off and gave my son some ranch dressing. My ribs were so damn tough I had to wash the piece I bit into down with water. The sides were AWFUL!! I've ate here on multiple occasions and I enjoy their food so why not recommend a black owned soulfood business for a black history luncheon at my place of employment-WRONG AND EPIC FAIL!. Our agency were set to order PANS of green beans, Mac n cheese, yams, greens, dressing, etc. even after we discovered they are not able nor willing to accommodate providing pans of meat options. Strike one! Furthermore, as a previous customer, I know they provide complimentary slices of cornbread with each dinner so it's not far fetched to ask for a pan of cornbread for our catered meal, right? WRONG AGAIN! We were told "it's not hard to make cornbread" in other words-do it yourself! Strike two! ...And for the STRIKE OUT...they do not deliver ANY catered meals. Food was good, you can tell everything is home made and fresh. I had rib snack dinner which is 4 ribs but the ribs have a lot of meat on them so they filled me up. Sauce had a good flavor. It came with 2 sides and a piece of cornbread. Cornbread was very good , next time I'm gonna get a extra piece. My two sides were Mac n cheese which was very cheesy and good and then dressing. The customer service was excellent the guy behind the counter was friendly and informative almost was gonna give a 5 Star because of him. My husband and I tried this place for the first time tonight, and we WILL be going back. It's an unassuming little takeout joint that's pretty easy to miss if you're driving by. This time we tried the catfish, and made the mistake of ordering two separate meals. We could have easily gotten by, sharing 1 dinner. For real - 2 huge fillets, 2 side containers filled to the top. The catfish was nice and crunchy, the cornbread was soft and subtly sweet, the greens tender and savory, and the mac was cheesy. All get an A+.
