LaPeZ Mod Mex understood the assignment for KC Restaurant Week... and absolutely crushed it. We stopped in on a total spur-of-the-moment dinner plan and decided to try their 4-course Restaurant Week menu. Best impulsive decision we have made in a while. Yes, some may say expensive but we said well worth it for date night and the selections! My husband and I wisely chose different dishes so we could maximize tasting opportunities (teamwork works for dates). Every. Single. Thing. was delicious! Portions were smaller for but wait... First course: black bean soup and house salad--and let me just say, that dressing deserves a warning label because it is killer. And maybe it is because I usually don't care for a vinaigrette but OH MY this one works! Second course: chicken taquitos and blue crab tostaditas. I could have happily ordered a full entrée of either and called it a day. Possibly a week. Third course: short ribs (very good, internet reviews were correct)... but my husband's asada stole the show. The flavor?? Unreal. I regret not ordering it myself, but also thankful I got to steal bites. Dessert: we did the only reasonable thing and ordered both--horchata tres leches and churro cheesecake. No notes. Zero regrets. Pants slightly tighter. We actually had to get boxes to take desserts home! Fantastic service, incredible food, and a Restaurant Week menu that made us feel like we won the dining lottery. We will absolutely be back--and next time, I'm ordering the asada for myself.

This a beautiful restaurant in Park Place which we love. I ordered a beer and my fiancé ordered the margarita which was just ok. Our food was very good, but it took a very long time to come out. There was a mixup on table numbers with both our drinks and our food. A manager came by to apologize and said it was because staff was new. They are a newer restaurant so I'm sure they are still figuring everything out. I would probably give it another try. The portion sizes aren't very large so don't come too hungry or plan to order some appetizers.

Excellent! Great modern Mexican fare with great service and a cool modern vibe! I love my short ribs dish. Hubby had Chile relleno which was great. The roasted veggies app was delish as was the blue cheese guacamole!

We went to Lapez mod mex for restaurant week. We have done restaurant week the last 10 years and this has been the best food I have had. Everything i had was so tasty. The owner came over and spoke with us. All the staff were so kind. I cant wait to go back and see what else they have to offer.

LaPez really surprised me. Authentic dishes with a modern twist, so much flavor especially the mole. Not many places can do mole correctly, this is it. Service is fantastic and they did a great job remodeling the place. Come for happy hour and a nice dinner. Sit outside when weather permits.

    Carne Asada. Absolutely amazing.

This is our favorite new restaurant. They only opened three days ago but you wouldn't know that from the quality of the service, food and drinks. The inside has been completely redone and it has a great vibe. I had the carne asada with chili smashed potatoes and street corn. My wife had the tampiquena, grilled steak with shrimp and crab enchiladas. It was a great and unique take on surf and turf. Both dishes were seasoned perfectly and were great value for the price. We will definitely be back. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

    Salad

Wow! We had a few cocktails along with the oysters, a salad and tortilla soup. I scarfed down the oysters so fast I didn't even think to get a picture! They were delicious! The tortilla soup had such vibrant flavor as did the salad. I cannot wait to come back to try more off the menu. We were lucky enough to speak with the head chef and you can tell his passion and excitement for the restaurant! We cannot wait to return!

    Chicken Mole Enchiladas

The food was artfully presented and delicious. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. Some others at the table thought the food was too spicy. Spice lovers rejoice. While the enchiladas had some heat, didn't think it was too spicy although the jicama salad cooled off the heat some. The servers did an excellent job fielding some complaints at the table about spiciness. Great location to watch the ice skaters.

Loved it! Everything was amazing and cooked perfectly. N/A cocktail list was a great surprise!Service was prompt and polite without being rushy. Live music was wonderful if just a bit loud, place would benefit from those sound muffling stands are the band area to split the difference, but otherwise no notes, will definitely be back.

To start off Rafael, at the front was very funny and made it very comforting. He made conversation with us and was very accommodating. We also received free chips and queso which was my daughter's favorite! The place itself is very calm and just seems like a chill spot to come for a quick eat. I ordered the steak tacos and veggie burrito (which Rafael fixed up for me on regular price with no extra charges for adding fries). We enjoyed our food and had a great time. Everything was delicious and Rafael did a great job on making this a good time for us. I wasn't really a big fan of their horchata but they had other good drinks available. I want to add that I feel like we started receiving special treatment because they realized we were yelpies so I don't know how service is on a regular day. Altogether, I'll be coming back here again!

We were originally hoping to score a table outside so the "essence of our athletic auras" wouldn't offend the general public, but the patio was packed, so we abided and took the indoor seating. We were a semi-sizable lineup of about 10 to 12 deep. Our server was incredibly friendly, but it was only her third day on the job, so we willingly cut her some slack. It did take about five innings to get my jalapeño margarita, but when it finally arrived, it absolutely hit the spot--perfect balance of heat and refreshing. After mowing down roughly 10 rounds of chips and salsa across the table, we moved into the late-lunch innings of the meal. I ordered the lunch chimichanga, which came paired with cilantro rice and refried beans. Flavor-wise, it was pretty tasty, but it definitely leaned more "burrito" than "chimi"--any crispiness it started with must have melted on the journey from the kitchen to the table. On the bright side, one of our teammates ordered the fish tacos, which looked incredible. But for me, the real MVP of the table was the guacamole. It looked like it stepped straight out of a high-end, all-inclusive resort--beautifully presented, colorfully topped, and bursting with bright, fresh flavor. Great spot for a post-game huddle, even if the kitchen pace was a bit of a slow burn.

The service was okay! Nothing super special but they answered questions and were helpful at the counter. This was our first time here so we ordered a few things to sample and share amongst ourselves. The first thing we had was the chips and queso, which I thought was a bit expensive at $7.99 but not too bad. The queso was fairly spicy but otherwise nothing special. I usually love queso so it surprised me how neutral I felt toward it! The chips were good, thin and light with a crispy bite to them. We unfortunately didn't get to try the salsa, noticing only at the end of our meal that there was a sauce bar near the counter! The birria tacos were also...okay. They were very juicy but not very uniquely flavored compared to everything else we tried. The meat was tender and I loved the texture of the tortilla, but didn't care for the massive handful of cilantro dropped on top of everything on the plate. The dipping liquid (birria sauce?) was alright! It was the same flavor as the tacos themselves so it didn't add much, but it definitely wasn't bad. The "main course" of what we ordered was a combo of soft chicken tacos, rice, and beans. The chicken tacos were unfortunately very cold by the time we got them which was a bit strange, as almost everything else was hot! They tasted good but I'm really not a fan of eating cold chicken, so I passed them off to my friends. The beans were just okay. There's really not much to say about them. The rice also left me disappointed! I typically devour Spanish rice. Not only was it cold, there were also odd, hard grains of rice mixed in. Not enough to get one every bite but enough that the experience of eating it was off-putting. It was also quite bland. Another note: While we were eating, there was this constant loud droning coming from the air conditioner. I'm a MASSIVE fan of air conditioning so I'm grateful it was on in the first place, but that is something they really need to get fixed. Two women seated near us actually got up and walked outside after commenting multiple times about how disturbing the noise was. My experience here was definitely a mixed bag but it leaned toward the positive, so we'll likely try them again! They had several other menu items I'd like to try, including some American fare that I found intriguing.

My build-your-own weekday lunch ($8) included choice of entrée, choice of beans and rice. The chicken tinga burrito was packed full of moist, white chicken and topped with a very flavorful sauce and cheese. I found the black beans to be pretty good, but the rice was somewhat dry and clumpy. The dining area had a central bar area, unique light fixtures, a mix of booths and tables, Mexican decor, Mexican background music (not too loud), a table-side cart for fresh guacamole and several backdrop spots for photos. I also noticed two rollup garage doors leading to the covered patio area. I would probably try it without octopus next time. My waiter suggested using the premade lime mixture to cut the fishy taste and it worked perfectly and I also tried the habanero lime mixture. That's on the table and that tastes good as well it cut the fishiness. -Ceviche tostadas no carrots and light cilantro no (btw this is the Pacifico one): probably the best ceviche I've had and I added the habanero purée and it was perfection.
