I have visited several times when the company name was still "The Eldest Geek." His business was forced to move when the building caught fire. I still use a laptop that was rebuilt when there were issues with my old one. Craig knows a lot about computers. He has a few employees who help. There doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency with finishing projects. The location isn't convenient to visit. The office seems unorganized, but repairs still get completed. when you look for computer repair firms you think you will get a 30 something geek that thinks he knows it all. Well, Craig is certainly not a 30 something but he may know it all. I had reached near memory capacity on my hard drive and was getting a disturbing message when I booted up saying that I had a problem that couldn't be resolved. Craig came out, installed a program that showed that my hard drive was 81% bad. He took my computer with him, installed a new hard drive with 1TB capacity, told me that my Seagrave hard plate exterior was not a good solution and sold me a SanDisk SSD drive to replace it. He brought the computer back the same afternoon. Everything is now great: plenty of storage capacity and a backup drive that holds 2TB of data. He solved all my issues and left me very satisfied. TopTech was able to repair a faulty motherboard that was killing my SSDs (two died in three years!), rather than having to replace the entire machine! Only about a quarter of the original price of the laptop too. Very grateful it was repairable, even if it did take a month+, but the staff were very thorough in running tests to be sure the issues were fixed - which was how they discovered it was the motherboard in the first place. I have been a customer for Elder Geek which now named Top Tech computer repair store for time being. I been going here for couple year for HP laptop repairs. Craig and Derek have been wonderful staffs and carefully diagnose and repair in the process. However, sometime a repair process may take longer depending how severe the issues with the damages. I been grateful for them and it best place for any computer repairs. Also I have notice that they do repair PC laptops, Apple laptops, Xbox consoles, any computer monitors and many different sort of hardware's for repair. Awhile ago, I had a old hard drive that failed with the HP laptop and replaced with Solid state drive which is much better. The problem: my older Dell laptop had stopped receiving wifi from the router. None of the fixes I tried worked, so I just hooked up an ethernet cable to span the 3-foot distance from router to desk. However, the day arrived when I needed to take my laptop with me on a trip. Oops. My search for help brought me to TopTech (Craig, "Oldest Geek"). The reviews sounded great; my initial contact with him (email and phone) sounded like he could help me. Made an appointment to go in. I had concluded the internal wifi adapter had stopped working, and Oldest Geek concurred after testing. After being in his shop for 4 hours (a number of interruptions for other customers, etc.), he sent me home ($120 fee) with a temporary fix: several software apps installed. Shortly after returning home and before I needed to leave on the trip, wifi went out again. He installed a remote software that allowed him get back into my laptop and get wifi back again. He then explained to me how to do it myself. He promised to keep researching the problem and let me know how to permanently repair. I got back in touch several times (email and phone messages). He has yet to return my messages. The wifi still goes out about every 5-6 days, but I have learned how to use the app he installed to repair and get wifi running again. Craig seems to know his stuff, but my problem baffled him (and he said as much); but it was his lack of follow-through that was the annoyance. read more

I had an unfortunate issue with my Dell Laptop because somehow a type of ransomware messed up the system. The bootup partitin of the hard drive was no longer being recognized which caused the system to not bootup at all. The other partitins of the hard drive were wrecked as well. Craig implemented the first solution to change out the hard drive. Thankfully he was able to recover the files from the 1st hard drive by usong a soohisticated system. He then needed to re-nstall Windows 10. Once that was done a completely different system error resilted which was identified as a TPM error. Alex performed an additional scan and analysis which took some time to find out the cause of the TPM error. In order to test he needed to re-start the system more than ten times because the same error kept rrcurring. Alex was finally able to determine the error was cuased by Dell's firmware and removing this option solved the issue. I appreciate their help with this comolex issue. read more

I will be returning to Top Tech for any future computer problems and recommending their services to anyone having issues. About a month ago, I woke up one morning unable to power on my 4-5 year old laptop. Having a Geek Squad service coverage, I first took it to Best Buy to have them take a look. A costly, risky solution was offered, but I wasn't fully convinced it was the only option. After doing some research, I found Top Tech/The Eldest Geek and, impressed by reviews, decided to give them a call. I spoke with Alex, and after describing my problem and giving him my model information, he immediately gave me 3 or 4 possible issues that could be preventing my computer to start. It was evident that this guy knew his "you know what," so I took a ride out to the Top Tech offices the next day for a free diagnostic. In about 5 minutes, Alex found what the issue was and gave me an estimate, which would be for the actual work only and not a part that needed to be replaced. A few days later, he called and said it was all ready to go. The computer is now running better than before and Alex even replaced some loose screws free of charge, so it feels sturdier as well. All of this was done at a fraction of what Geek Squad was suggesting, which I'm not even sure would have worked and kept my data intact - something I stressed the importance of to Alex. Since having this repair, I have also turned to Top Tech to complete a data transfer and replace a broken screen on my brother's laptop. I will never take my computer to another repair shop. I had a laptop that had a lot of water spilled on it and it would not turn on. I took it to Apple and they said it would be $1000 and that I would lose all my data. It would probably also take a month to repair. I then brought the laptop to a data recovery center and they told me it was lost. I then found Craig and TopTech/Eldest Geek on Yelp. These guys are great. I brought them a laptop with a broken power button (which wouldn't turn on). They figured out the problem (which was something else) and fixed it promptly, and for a very fair fee that was much less than buying a new laptop. They are located in Mount Vernon but don't let that scare you if you are in Arlington - they also do house calls. They provide a six-month warranty on any repair. They fix any desktop or laptop, including Macs. They can open the case, figure it out, and fix it (including repairs that involve soldering). Their affiliate, Orlogic Repairs, does logic board repairs. If your laptop RAM or storage is upgradable, they also do that. TopTech also has used laptops (Mac and PC), which also have a 6-month warranty. Unlike the used laptops on eBay, Amazon Warehouse or Craigslist, with these laptops you know what you are getting and there is someone who will fix it for free if there are problems. read more
