    Sweet cream waffle
    Kristi B.

We arrived on a Sunday around 10:30 in the morning and it was incredibly busy. When we got there, we were estimated at an hour and 45 minute wait. We stepped inside and got a cup of coffee and an apple strudel and sat outside at one of the many benches snd enjoyed the peacefulness of the Riverwalk. After about an hour, we went into the gift shop looked around and toured the museum a little bit and then our table was ready. In total, we ended up waiting about an hour and 10 minutes. I got the breakfast tacos and they were the basics of breakfast tacos. You can choose up to three items in each one I chose to keep it simple and keep the same three items in both which was just eggs, cheese and bacon. I did get the house potatoes, which had great seasoning on them as well. My husband got the sweet cream waffle with a side of eggs, scrambled and cheese. It comes with bacon and the bacon actually taste like bacon! If ya know, ya know! The waffle was really delicious. Had a nice little crunch on the outside, but soft and fluffy in the inside. It was delicious. We we also got the cinnamon roll and they are ginormous! But incredibly delicious - probably one of the top ten cinnamon rolls I've ever had in my life. We did end up bringing it back to the hotel, though to have a snack later on in the evening. It's a really cool location with a lot of really amazing history for the area. And the neighborhood it's in is gorgeous. If you have time highly recommend strolling down some of the streets, especially King William as you'll see some beautiful historical homes.

Two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, and homemade biscuit with blackberry preserves

Before my flight back to NC, my siblings and I decided to visit Guenther House for breakfast. Thinking it would be pretty packed, we arrived as they opened around 8 am. The GPS directed us to a parking lot next to the house that led to gates that were closed, so we had to drive around the property to park in another area that led us to their main entrance. As we walked up to the hostess stand we were able to take in the beautiful view of the historic building, lit patio, and lush landscape. We were greeted by the hostess who asked whether we preferred indoor or outdoor dining. As this was our first time, we decided to check out the inside of the house. We were seated immediately. There was ample seating both inside and outside, but as the time passed, people began filling in quickly. It took some time to get orders in and food out, but in the meantime, their custom roasted Founder's Choice coffee and waters were replenished frequently. I ordered scrambled eggs, chicken sausage (grateful that they offer a pork alternative), and a biscuit (biscuits are the only bread option). The biscuit was quite large, dense, but fluffy and paired well with the homemade blackberry preserves. My eggs were a bit runnier than I care for, so if you like a harder scramble, make sure to ask for it. My sister was happy with her breakfast tacos that were loaded with ground sausage and my brother enjoyed his waffle as well. The homemade biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles, and breakfast tacos seem to be pretty popular here. They also have quiche made daily and baked goods at the counter on your way in. You can explore the historic house equipped with a museum which is pretty unique. Overall, we had a decent breakfast and a memorable final meal as a family in San Antonio.

Came here for brunch. Waited about 1.5 hours so will probably not return but glad I got to try it. Their founders choice coffee was really good! I really liked the food but I didn't like the potatoes too much, I think they had chorizo in them. The house inside was really cool to look at. The gift shop is cute. Love the outdoor seating. Our server was okay, he didn't seem like he wanted to be there lol

Neat place - lots of history. Food was okay. We came here based on a recommendation with an emphasis on the Cinnamon Rolls. And oh man - those things were amazing. The house is situated next to San Antonio River, just south of downtown. The house is adjacent to the site of the Pioneer Flour Mills, which was started by the Guenther family in the 1800s. We came here on a Friday morning, around 9:30 am. It was not busy when we arrived but there was a decent line to be seated when we left. We elected to site indoors, which is down a few steps. It was cold inside from the AC, so be aware. If it's decent outside, consider that first. We were treated by our server, Trevon was pleasant and at our table right away. He brought us waters and took our order. Coffee arrived quickly but it wasn't hot, just sort of warm. On a return trip to refill us, we asked him to reheat it which he did. For breakfast, we shared: - Cinnamon Rolls (HUGE) - San Antonio Quiche We LOVED the Cinnamon Roll and it was HUGE! The Quiche was served with a decent amount of fresh fruit. It was made with a Country Style Biscuit crust. We weren't fans of the crust. Also, the quiche was not hot. It was mostly cold with some warm parts. As we had eaten part of the cinnamon roll before the quiche arrived, we picked at the quiche and did not asked for it to be heated. We decided to take it home where we'd heat it for lunch later. We did let Trevon know the quiche was mostly cold and asked him to let the kitchen know so they would know they're serving is well below serving temperature so others would not get what we got. After breakfast, we walked through a second floor museum roof or details and artifacts of the history of the Guenther family and their flour mill business. We then walked through the gift shop. And while our breakfast main was not served warm, we still enjoyed our visit here and would recommend it to anyone.

The flys and little roaches around in there

absolutely disgustin, don't get me wrong the whole setting is beautiful and cute. but their presentation on sanitation is pure ignorance. I went inside to the restaurant and they have their pastries behind glass slide doors and their open but not just for the customer but for the flys and bugs and I see the manager shooing the flies and bugs after 5 minutes of me standing there and I ask "are these display? can I order fresh things?" her response "this is all I have" while I'm looking at flys and little roaches all over them and I saw some one drop a fruit from a fruit plate and put it on the plate to be served. we left I didn't stick around to be served here.

Big portions and southern style. Love it though. Service was fast. You can walk around the museum and the grounds while waiting. Historical place on the river. Great outdoor seating too.

OH MAN!! Atmosphere galore! This quaint mansion in the King Williams area of San Antonio is a perfect stop for breakfast, brunch or lunch. It is super important to make you aware, this is NOT a fast food place. Do not come here and expect to be in and out in 30 minutes. The food is made from scratch, as it is ordered. Our wait on this fine Saturday morning was listed as 35 to 45 minutes and took 23 minutes (ahead of what they told us). There is a cute little store upstairs on the 2nd floor. It is a bit pricy to me, but not overly expensive. The bathrooms are upstairs as well. I do believe they have accessible bathrooms on the outside seating area (which is nice and cool since it is down by the quiet end of the Riverwalk). On the second floor you can also see an old sitting room that shows the finery of this old mansion amd a very old piano. There are shelves with old plates that the Pioneer Mill used to give out. Now to the important part! The food!! Man, the servings are large. The biscuits are fluffy and taste so good! They are very large/tall! The chicken and waffles are very tasty and flavorful. We had a wait and got a piece of coffee cake to split and it was not too sweet and was just right for sharing as an appetizer before brunch. The fruit was very fresh, ripe, juicy and tasty. Server Isabella was fabulous!! We did have a wait for our food and she was directly on point!! Our glasses were never empty and she made sure to check on us multiple times while we waited and also while we ate. The restaurant was very busy and despite this, the tables were turned over and people were sat as quickly as possible. Sorry I didn't take as many pictures...but here are the two I took!

    What history!

I've heard about this restaurant for years, and the first time we're in San Antonio on vacation-- we visit! Delicious pancakes! Massive and fresh biscuits! Tasty coffee. And it feels like we're dining at Grandma's back porch, with the cloth napkins and wonderful service. The inside tour and shopping was worth the visit, too!

Natasha, the waitress, was such a great lady to have with us first thing in the morning. She was a hoot! Oh & me
    Dee C.

My friend & I went to celebrate my best friend, & her late husband who passed a year ago, because he & I used to go here often. It was such a fun breakfast. Natasha was our waitress, & she was an absolute delight to have first thing in the morning. She has such a great personality. She's funny, & beat if all she's on top of what her tables need, & pays attention to her customers. We never had to ask for anything twice, or remind her. She was busy. We were there when they first opened so there was quite a bit of seating both inside & outside when we arrived, not so much 90 minutes later when we departed. It was full & a line had begun. So, weekend plans in San Antonio & you wanna come here? Get there early. My friend & I ate & drank the exact same thing. The house coffee - try it..it's so good. I believe she said it's vanilla, cinnamon & hazelnut - really tasty. Then we each got the the pancake platter. In all honesty, we should've split it. We both only ate half each. Pecan pancakes, bacon, fruit cups (the oranges seemed a bit old for just opening!? ), it also comes with pineapple wedges, quarter strawberry bits, & grapes . Together it was right around $34. Good meal, great staff, great atmosphere, the place makes you feel like you're eating in Grandma's kitchen when you eat inside. Then, go upstairs & grab some mixes, or baking necessities & head home to make more goodies.

    This is the 1851 Platter.

The space was unbelievable! It is in the actual house that C. H. Gunther built. They have a restaurant, museum, and mill store there. The service was on point. We were seated right way. Though I have heard there could be a wait. The serve came to the table right when we sat down. He was friendly and bright. Took care of us through out the meal. The food was outstanding. They use ingredients from the mill right next door. The biscuit was so fluffy and light. The gravy with sausage crumbles paired well with everything on the plate. The potatoes were seasoned just right. I would recommend this restaurant to people from out of town and from San Antonio.

Do they have gluten free options?

I believe I saw a section of the the menu devoted to Gluten free food.

Do they take reservations for breakfast/brunch on weekends or is there a way to get in line online?

The Guenther House does not take any reservations, just a first-come-first-served basis. Everything is order-off-the-menu, moderately priced and we are casually dressed. We are open seven days a week from 7 am - 3 pm serving breakfast until we close… Read more

    Are alcoholic beverages available?

No alcoholic beverages for the public. Private affairs are as already indicated. It is wonderful; highly recommend the restaurant. Enjoy!

    Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes they have accessibility and since it's an older hotel the rooms are pretty large making easy to get around. I haven't stayed in a room that had the bars in the shower but I believe the top floor is newly renovated so they may have what you need.

Do they have brunch and mimosas during the week, let's say on a Friday 10-11ish AM?

Breakfast and Lunch off a menu. Breakfast all day, Lunch starts at 11 AM Mon-Thur & 10 AM Fri - Sat. No alcohol is served.

Does the Guenther House take reservations?

No, it's first come first serve. I called very recently and they told me to come early (for breakfast in this case) and there will be plenty of tables. But it might different if it's for a wedding or a big occasion.

However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars. The manager eventually heard our concerns, responding to a secondary issue with cigar smoke in our room after leaving windows open - their recommendation- to air out the room. Another great meal! Our server Brahim provided the perfect service: attentive, thoughtful, kind…read more Really enhanced our meal. For a starter we shared the cornbread with another couple and it was plenty for 4 people. If you are from out of town and looking for some Texas-shaped vittles or just want something substantial to stretch your meal I recommend it! Very tasty and filling. For my main I had the scallops with creamed corn risotto. It was a dainty portion but the flavors were nice. My husband had the short rib tagliatelle which he loved. It was very rich and filling. We had the buttermilk pie again for dessert and this time it tasted sweeter than I remembered. It was good but we couldn't finish it. Idk if it was my tastebuds or if it was different. Anyways still a great meal overall and we will be back!

Checked Yelp for dinner suggestions so Doc drove us to the paid lot next to where all the Cinderella lit up carriages drawn by horses were lined up. It seemed the boats going up and down the River portion of the Walk were busier. While we were walking I had my eyes open for a table with a view. We stopped at Four Brothers. The receptionist went over suggestions on the menu on her outdoor podium. Cornbread in the shape of Texas, shareable items like Dino ribs for $82, plus Pork Shank and ice tea completed our order. Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. This dish used cork screw shaped pasta and it was moist and not stuck together. I had to share a photo of it with Sweetie who is in Tokyo right now. Doc liked the pimento for the cornbread. As it was almost 9 pm we decided to pass on the boat ride but just walk on the other side with shops and more eateries. We're back on the road again tomorrow to Arizona.
