I ordered a chorizo burrito without beans and with beef added with it and two taquitos. I forgot to take pics of the burrito but the chorizo filling was very dry and flavorless without getting the salsa. Not the best tasting burrito for $7. The ambiance wasn't it for a restaurant because it's inside a 7/11 but there is a booth inside the store next to the window but I felt weird sitting there. There is also outdoor seating right outside the store as well but it was raining today so I sat inside. The ambience of the store didn't change the dry burrito. read more

This is an interesting taco shop because it's inside a 7-Eleven which is a new concept arriving in San Diego. I came in a little early for lunch, although they do serve breakfast, which is served till 10:30, then they switch to the lunch menu. Off the lunch menu, I ordered the surf and turf burrito for $8.99. It was a good burrito and came with a decent amount of carne asada and medium size shrimp. The special sauce that came in the burrito was very good, the peppers were crisp, and the flour tortilla was nice. The burrito could of used a little more inside, perhaps some white or Mexican rice. The beef was tender and nicely seasoned. I did noticed that they used precooked shrimp, which was noticeable with its texture and flavor, not to mention I saw it when it was place on the griddle. As a result, the shrimp was essentially twice cooked and lost that succulent texture you get from raw shrimp cooked and served right off the hot griddle. I wish they would go this route. This Texas-based taco chain has made its entry into the San Diego market with a service counter inside the next generation 7-Eleven convenience store in Normal Heights. The menu had specialty meals (one burrito, four plates) plus five signature and five original style tacos as its main lunch/dinner offerings. I was looking for two specific proteins (carne guisada, asado de puerco) that were on the menus of their Texas locations because I wanted to try a different style of meat preparation not found locally very often. It disappointed me that neither of them was offered here. My two picks were the Barbacoa ($4.49) and the Carnitas Bravas ($3.99). For those prices, I expected a good size taco. To my surprise, all I got was meat inside a tortilla. Refried beans, shredded cheese, sour cream, black beans, rice, guacamole, queso... all were considered add-ons for an extra $0.49 each! Sure, there was a complimentary bar across from the counter where I could get cilantro, diced onions, pico de gallo, and salsa. However, if I am paying $4+ per taco, then it should be more than a bare tortilla with a protein unless its wagyu beef. Even with my experiences at the national/regional fast-food spots, you get some toppings included with a taco as part of the base price. Unfortunately, I couldn't give this fairly new business a three star rating because they didn't meet my expectations. I had a picadillo taco before they opened. The taco was good. The tortillas are made fresh daily and made to order when getting your food. They have enchiladas and tamales in a hot rack on the sales floor. The food is fresh and I do need to try more food the next time I visit it. It's located inside of 7/Eleven. It's their own concept which I think is going to be a hit. The staff recommended the breakfast burritos especially the chorizo and eggs. The service was good. So I walk in 711. In my security guard uniform. I buy approximately $25 worth of food and drinks. There are tables and chairs outside. I sit down eat and drink what I just bought, which I have set a numerous times before without issue. This was on Saturday 11.00 pm. There are no sign or anything. It says that dinning area if you want to really call it that. closes or open that a certain time. 711 is a 24 hour business. I understand you don't random people or the homeless sitting now at your chairs and tables. However a customer should be allowed to sit 30 minutes undisturbed. Not have An employee with too much time running their hands bro you can't be sitting there. Instead of arguing with them I say ok I get up and leave. Since my money, time and business are not appreciated I will be going elsewhere from now on. I hope 711 goes out of business now. Apparently this taco shop is very popular in Texas, so they decided to try it out here in SD in a 7-Eleven. Honestly, the food is okay. For the price, you actually do get a lot which is nice. You definitely have to get the food when it's made fresh or else you can get some chewy pieces. The worst part was the rice as there was almost no flavor at all, so I think that's definitely an area to improve on. read more

While this place was under construction I drove by it every day. I thought it was some sort of hipster taco shop and dreamed of stopping by on my way to work. Well, it turns out that it's a chain connected to 7-11, I don't go to work anymore, and that little fantasy is a bust. But it is finally open! And it's better than I expected. The taco fillings are all pre-prepped and ready to be served, sort of like Chipotle. So you're not getting freshly cooked eggs like you would at a proper taco shop. And given that the food is sitting around, the prices seemed kind of steep. But the flour tortillas are made fresh (and they're good), the potatoes are flavorful (I'm a sucker for breakfast potatoes), and the salsas are pretty awesome. Plus, I'm really impressed by their setup. I'm sure they didn't plan on opening in the middle of a pandemic, but they adapted their setup quickly. They managed to set up their line for social distancing, have a plastic barrier between the customers and staff, and put everything on the salsa bar into plastic takeout containers. My first time there (westpark) location. I bought a chorizo and egg and bacon and egg tco. The bacon and egg was 99.9% egg and luke warm, the chorizo and egg was 95% egg and warm.the only thing that was good was the tortillas. A waste of $4. I won't return. read more

Imagine reading and watching tv about Mexican food for years but never actually having it and then you open a restaurant. That's pretty much how the food tastes. Salsa is definitely canned. I'm convinced the shrimp is warmed up frozen cocktail shrimp and the rest of the proteins lack any discernible flavors or origin. This is not a typical taco spot, so if you're expecting that- don't. The tacos are served on a flour tortilla, and they're huge! So the price is fair and they usually have specials. Today was 2 tacos for $6 and I could only finish one, it was that big. Proteins are great, I tried steak and carnitas. Add stuff on them if you want, they offer grilled ones which is nice. I have eaten here three times so far and I get the steak and shrimp burritos and they are very delicious. They price is a little higher than I expected though. If Rubio's was closer I would go there instead for the price. They make tortillas by hand each day? Pancho Villa has them beat on fresh flour tortillas. No biggie the main thing is quality and tenderness of the steak. And they shine in that area. Very friendly staff each visit and they will make it how you want. Tasted the battered fish and it was good and crispy. They put coupons on my door for a free taco but I haven't used it yet. I would highly recommended this place if it's close to you. The sauce bar is good but a little too spicy for me. They are new so hopefully they will improve overtime. It seems to be hit or miss rite now depending on time of day and the amount of customers they have served. I noticed a different taste on the frajitas vegitables between different visits The longer food sits the more the flavor deteriorates. I ordered a plate with chicken fajita meat and double beans, plus chips and guac was on sale that day for $1 so I ordered that also. Everything was really good. I had not complaints or notes. The absolute worse taco shop I have ever been too. First of all, there was flies all over the food, inside of the beans, rice and meats. They hand make tortillas but there so bland, it's like eating play-doh. The food is very very bland, no taste, and if anything, it taste like it's been sitting out for a long time.
