This was the perfect place for a late dinner for the four of us. We had just come in from our long day on the Rocky Mountaineer and definately wanted some dinner, [large or small]. From where the hotel is located you can not take a quick walk downtown so we came here. It was definitely a good choice. We were immediately greet by the smiling-friendly hostess who sat us quickly. The ambiance around this area was wonderful. The HUGE fireplace was very special but not lit yet. The overall appearance was soothing with comfortable tables and chairs. Our server came up and brought us some menus and took a drink order. Just a lovely young lady. It did not take long for our food to be delivered... Sone fish tacos, chicken sandwiches and salads. Food was excellent and we all enjoyed. Everything was fresh and tasty. The pricing was also favorable. I had the fish tacos which were excellent. These were as good-fresh-tasty as anyone I had every had. Everyone else was very satisfied with their choices. (There are a few pictures attached to this review.) Top notch service- some of the most personable people and conversation starting employees I've ever met anywhere in the world. Not just one, but every single one. Seriously, whoever trained the employees in being personable needs a friggin Michelin Star just for service training! That being said... the food was also excellent. I hate ordering a chicken sandwich for dinner, especially a $29 chicken sandwich, but damn did it taste worth every bit of that Canadian tourist location exchange rate with the seasonings and preparation. The everything focaccia bun? Perfection- and raise it with being buttered and toasted on the grill, not just tossed on cold. I'm sure they had to fly that avocado in from Mexico too because it was pretty fresh- unfortunately the iceberg lettuce didn't make the trip as easily, but it still had crunch. We would have loved a seat in the lounge, but alas the table to low seat ratio felt a bit challenging for having a true elbows on the table kind of sandwich meal, so we opted for bar table seating instead. It was a bit awkward to have bar music playing while the live musician was also playing in the lounge- which would be the biggest atmosphere change I'd make to elevate the experience- otherwise the atmosphere provides a nice variety of options no matter what you like. What really made me love this was that I drove here and needed to park in the garage; and parking was validated by the restaurant before leaving. Unfortunately the parking lot ticket reader had problems accepting the validated parking ticket- but the call button led to the switchboard and solved the problem. We were staying here at this hotel for 4 nights during our stay in Banff. We enjoyed our late coffee fix here and the lady performing that night. The view is spectacular. The food seems to be expensive for the serving size. they're open until midnight so we were still able to grab some food around 11pm. I wish they expand their dinner menu to have more choices. read more

This lounge also offers a full restaurant service and kids are definitely allowed. In the evening they light the fireplace which gives a beautiful ambiance and warmth as you enjoy your meal or drink. The drinks are unique- seasonally inspired and ones you would be willing to pay a little extra for to try. There are no specials on weekends because Banff....! The food here is ok - there are a couple of veggie options but not too many. They veggie burger and the bruschetta were both a little flavourless. Many try the Buddha Bowl?? The service was ok but not like what you expect from a restaurant in a hotel of this calibre. I would definitely check it out if you are staying at the Rimrock. And if you are not it worth coming here to check out the views of the mountains which are amazing from any of seats in the lounge. read more

We were staying at the Rimrock and came In for evening drinks to end the night. We decided to also order the charcuterie for a snack. Drinks were nice. I would have appreciated a run down if what everything was on the charcuterie, but none was given and no one asked how it was so we guessed. We've had the charcuterie on a previous visit, but felt this one was lacking for the price. There was a lot of brie and another salty nice cheese. 2 of the meats were similar to each other. I love this type of dish and have had much better ones. Presentation was beautiful but my suggestion would be 3 cheese types, 3 varieties of meat, one bread option and a flatbread or cracker. The mustard and jam were nice, as was the grapes and olives. We also noted other tables were given mixed nuts and we were not. Our service was fine. Polite and attentive. I do recommend visiting during the day as the mountain views are splendid. In the evening you don't get the same atmosphere. I do feel like the lounge is aging compared to the Rundle Lounge at the Banff Springs. I would stop in again for a drink feuding the day time and possibly try another dish. read more

Came here for my first time in 2015, service was good, live music and an upbeat vibe. Ate here a few days ago, and it was a bit of a disappointment. The menu wasn't impressive for such a regal hotel. I ordered a lamb sandwich which was dry accompanied by this swamp green colored asparagus soup. The server wasn't all that friendly either. My date ordered the burger which he said was really greasy. I think this hotel can improve the menu and turn some music on if there is no live music. read more

This restaurant is in Rimrock resort. We decided to try it out the first night of our stay. We got Nachos and they were just alright. It seemed like salsa, guacamole were packaged and store bought and thrown on the plate. Some of the chips were very salty. I was expecting better quality from a restaurant inside such a good resort but disappointed. We will make the drive and try out other restaurants in Banff while we are here and not eat here. read more

This place is like a hidden gem in Banff. I'm not sure if people know about this place for lunch because when we went, it was pretty empty. It's located at the Rimrock Hotel - perfect lunch option after enjoying the Banff hot springs nearby. It offers fantastic view of the mountains, the prices are comparable to any restaurant down on Banff Ave with no view, friendly service, and exquisite decor! Their steak was very well made, tender and juicy. The smoked albacore tuna was a bit stringy though (you can see the white veins/sinews in the pic) but the smoky flavour was nicely done. The Larkspur Lounge is situated the lobby of the Rimrock Resort Hotel. I love the beautiful dark wood everywhere and of course the unbeaten view of the mountains. However, I was a little disappointed with the food and was expecting a bit more from this resort. My partner was here for a work conference so we were making this a temporary home for the next 4 days. After a long first day, he didn't feel like venturing outside the resort so we gave the Larkspur a try. I ordered the crispy chicken pesto wrap with a side of the mushroom soup. I was wanting a refreshing mocktail and requested a virgin mojito with extra mint. My mocktail was refreshing and tasty. The crispy chicken pesto wrap was a little blah for me. It came with spicy chimchurri sauce and I had hoped it would kick things up a notch if I had spred some on the wrap. Well the sauce also lacked spice and flavor. Mushroom soup was disappointing as well. It tasted very bland and I didn't see actual mushrooms in there other than the color of mushrooms. We did have great service from our waiter though who knew the menu and drinks quite well. It got busy later on as more of the conference attendees filed in and he still managed to get to us when we needed him. read more

Quite honestly, we couldn't have had a better view than from the Larkspur Lounge in the Rimrock Hotel. We came here after having hiked Sulphur mountain and taken the gondola down. It was a lovely place for lunch. We had excellent customer service and rather good food as well. We had a beautiful window view from our table and our server was really excellent at determining our needs and keeping our glasses full. read more

The Bottom Line: A great lounge with high class service and good food, that is a touch overpriced. Try: Chicken Wrap Berry Cocktail Pro: The wrap was filling and flavorful, with a good amount of crisp vegetables to complement the soft chicken. The cocktail was the right amount of sweet. The fries that came with the wrap were perfectly done. The lounge itself is fantastic, with gorgeous views, comfortable seating, and the right environment to relax, read, or (groan) work. My wife and I drove up to Banff for the night so that I could work from a scenic setting and we could get away from the city. We have enjoyed staying at the Rimrock several times and will definitely be back. We elected to sit in the Larkspur Lounge next to a window were I could get great WiFi and enjoy a delightful view of the mountain valley. We were in the Lounge for about 5 -6 hours and enjoyed a number of "warming" coffees and eventually lunch. This review is about my lunch experience only. Throughout the day the place was very sparse with people. By noon, it had filled out quite a bit and the staff of 3 were overwhelmed. I think that it's the management fault for not ensuring they had enough coverage for the lunch rush and for that reason, I would give the service a 3 by 5. I do not blame the wait staff as they were very friendly and did their best under the circumstances; however, their management let them down as a team. My lunch was what I would consider basic bar food. I ordered some salt and pepper wings to start, and then had some fish and chips. Sigh. The "salt and pepper" wings came without salt and pepper... which I would say is a fairly obvious oversight. It took me about 10 minutes to flag down someone from the wait staff to get some salt and pepper that I could add myself. The wings were served with some Cole slaw and some veggies plus some ranch dressing in a mini ramekin. Standard. Once my main arrived, I immediately liked the tiny metal basket the fries were presented in, but the rest of the plate was a visual disappointment. There were two fairly meagre fish strips (maybe 1 cm larger than a fish stick each), and then the exact same Cole slaw and veggies that I saw on my wings plate. Seemed very lame. The fries were "okay". The plate must have been sitting a while under a heat lamp because the tartar sauce had started to form a yellowish crust and a garnish leaf of lettuce had wilted something fierce. The fish itself was disgusting. The fish was clearly from frozen, and had started to take on that fishy taste of stale frozen fish. Not to mention the batter was soggy and oily. Not impressed to say the least. I would give the food a 2 by 5, only because the wings were plump, juicy and actually tasted really good (despite having to finish them off myself). read more

Oh good lord. If you're staying in the Rimrock Resort, keep far away from the Larkspur Lounge! Try either of their other two dining options--the food and service are superior by FAR. My family and I had a tiring day and decided to grab what we thought would be a quick and casual dinner. We had dined at Primrose the night previously, so we wanted to try Larkspur. Since Primrose was such a good experience, what could go wrong at its sister restaurant just one floor above? Well...a lot. At least 45 minutes, if not a full hour, passed between the time we were seated and our food brought out. During this time, we saw our server twice: once when she brought menus, and once when she took our order. Our waters were drained well before our dinner arrived, and our glasses sat empty as we could find no one to refill them. When our food finally arrived, we were sorely disappointed. My mom had ordered the Rimrock XXL Burger ($19), which came with the Seafood Chowder. The chowder was probably the best part of the meal for everyone. Sadly, the burger had been cooked to death and entirely too salty. If you're going to chance this order, make it clear to your server how you want the meat cooked, else you'll get extra extra well-done. My dad and sister both ordered the Slow Braised Teriyaki Pork Spare Ribs ($16). Like the burger, the ribs were incredibly overcooked. My sister couldn't eat them without drenching them in the sickly sweet teriyaki sauce. The accompanying Asian noodle salad left much to be desired--she took one bite and left it alone. I had the Mountain Bowl Salad ($15) and Karay Indian Style Vegetable Cakes ($12). The salad was actually half fried onions and half spring mix, with a egg sliced in half on the side and a couple strawberries sprinkled throughout. Slices of avocado were added, probably as an afterthought. Their "Bleu cheese croutons" were literally strips of bread toasted with a bit of what I would assume is Bleu cheese spread on them. Tasteless, but at least they were crunchy. The vegetable cakes were actually surprisingly good, once you got over the fact that you only got three 3-inch cakes on your plate. At $1 a bite, I would expect a lot more from my dish... Our server didn't check on us once during the meal. We had to flag her down after she brought drinks to another table to ask for our check. read more

There was a live pianist and a mix of tables and couches, since some people were there to eat and others just for a drink. We really enjoyed the view, which at some point also had a full rainbow. We started with the wings and they were pretty good. Then we both had the burger, which was cooked to perfection and just what you would expect. We had lunch here one day while staying at the hotel. We were always seated quite fast and the servers are great. It was busy, and it took us a little while longer to get food but that's just how it is no matter what restaurant or lounge you may be eating in. I had a braised chicken wrap, real chicken not processed pieces from a pack, loaded with tomato, onion, and heavy on the Monterey Jack and cheddar. It was great as were the fried and gravy. I also had coffee with a side of soy, they were accommodating like that. My boyfriend had the fish tacos and our friend had the mountain bowl salad with shrimp. They enjoyed their lunch. It happened to be our friends birthday, and my boyfriend worked for the Rimrock at one point. She wanted to see what the Infiniti Suite was like, so after we sat down for lunch a friend of his came an escorted us to take a look at the suite and give us a little bit of a tour! Everyone is so awesome at this hotel, they just do the little extra things for people that make someone's day......but don't expect these things, ask, be polite, and you might just get the extra bit which makes it feel amazing. If your expectant of something, you're setting yourself up for disappointment, and that's your issue, not the staff or hotel. We had a great meal, lunch, surprise tour. Enjoy. read more

I agree with Christine H. - stay away from this part of the dining offerings at Rimrock! Hubby and I stopped in for a snack. None of the servers acknowledged us and I had to flag someone down to order. Food took a really long time to come out. I ordered the portobello veggie burger and it tasted so foul (like bitter dirt) that it was inedible and I only ate my fries, and the fries were cold and limp at that! When it finally arrived after an hour, flatbread was in fact cardboard, pulled pork sandwich was cold in places (eg they didn't microwave it long enough...). Food was decent. Had the malai chicken wrap which was delicious. The reason this place is getting 3 stars instead of four or five is the service. Servers were nice but the service was super slow.
