we just spent $390 at Larry's pro shop. The young salesman gave us two complimentary bowling passes to "try out" our ball's. WHAT CHEAP SCATES , 15 minutes free, each . PLUS $10 for the shoes!!!!! I went here as beginner bowler to have a ball drilled and I later learned that the results were sub-par. He measured my hand, drilled the ball, and told me to let it hang from my hand in a relaxed manner to test the fit. I did this and the ball was consistently getting stuck on my thumb to the extent that I needed his help to remove it. He asked for my feedback on the ball fit, but there wasn't much for me to offer due to my lack of knowledge. I now know that his methods were too subjective and out-dated. The ball works okay, but it's clear now that I need to get it re-drilled by somebody with the proper equipment. Don't waste your time with Larry. He is stuck in the 80s. read more

Good selection of balls but had to order mine. No problem. Larry had it drilled and finger inserts in in short order. I was able to take it for a test game on site to assure a good fit. Fair price! I drove in from the North Coast to obtain the ball and take advantage of Larry's care and expertise. I would highly recommend his shop! read more

I did some random searching for places to buy a bowling ball near me. My son has joined a bowling team and I wanted to get him his own ball. Larry's came up as the place to go and I'm glad I did. When we walked in he was helping someone else but we were greeted and started helping make the selection. He said prob about 2-3 hours but he would call us when to come back. We went to get a lane to kill time and he called shortly after. After he took measurements he drilled the holes and came out to see my son and make sure it worked. After another adjustment it was perfect. He offered some great deals and we walked away with shoes and a bag as well. Trust me my son is very happy with the purchase and I will return soon. I've had Larry drill balls for me for over 20 years. He is one of the best if not the best in the Portland Metro area. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, funny, overall just a great guy. I've had others drill balls for me and it's never the same great experience Larry provides. He is usually busy so I'd recommend calling ahead to schedule time if you want him to drill stuff for you. read more

So me and my daughter drove about 30 miles to go to this pro shop maybe a little more took forever to get there finally get there unfortunately looks like there was a tournament or something going on but I went in there waited around the Larry guy was talking to some couple and just to come and see me that was really weird just off-the-wall just he seem like a creeper type guy so I just gave him the benefit of doubt because he's older and then when it came time to help me yet like he didn't want my business I told him where I came from and he still act like he didn't want my business very rude very unprofessional never going again read more

I've been in here a few different times. I bowl at KingPins a couple of times a week. Larry is absolutely wonderful. The lady that works there!has constantly given me that "what are you doing in here" vibe. After my last experience, my 8 year old son ask me why this lady didn't like me, and I had to explain, I think I will take my pro shop business to Vancouver. Larry was personable and helpful from the moment I called on the phone through our meeting up with him and asking all of our questions as beginners to bowling. He was funny and helped us feel relaxed. He answered all of our questions but also made it fun talking with him. Amazing isn't even the word to describe the service you get at Larry's. I honestly don't even know where to begin... I was nervous about purchasing my first ball, because let's be honest, I'm not very good. But I enjoy it so much! My husband did research and found that Larry's shop had the best reviews in the state. So we made the trip from Florence to Portland. Larry got me all set up in an entry level ball, he even had the color I wanted! He sized the ball perfectly to my hand and went over some basics. How to hold my ball, that my thumb SHOULD be all the way in and using less of my arm to do the work! I seriously can not wait to try it out! My husband got a new cyclone! He said the last place he went in Florida didn't give him anywhere near the attention that Larry did. They discussed moving up in weight and what ball would be best to purchase next. My boyfriend and I are pretty new to the bowling scene, with just a mere months of "experience" under our belts. Needless to say, we had absolutely no clue what to look for when we walked in to Larry's Pro Shop. From the moment we opened the door, we were greeted by Larry with open arms. His witty personality, jokes and knowledge were a breath of fresh air. He made the entire process for us painless, fun and memorable. He even watched us bowl a game (and gave us pointers) to make sure our new bowling balls fit properly, and when mine didn't feel right (most likely due to user error), he had no problems carrying my ball back into his shop to make the adjustments that I requested. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Went to get my first ball as I joined a league this year. Larry was helpful, patient and witty! I felt in good hands. He let me browse the books, ask a million questions about what would be best for me, and spent a good 15 minutes testing and measuring my fingers to fit for drilling. Boyfriend brought in his ancient ball to see if a counterweight could be added, and ended up purchasing a new ball and shoes as well! We were there for over an hour and a half, and as I was leaving, Larry asked me about shoes.... I said they didn't have the pair I was looking for. Not a problem! He ordered them for me and they will be there when it's time to pick up my ball. Even better, being in an AMF league, you get a 10% discount on everything! No better pro shop, go here. read more

Other shops are hit and miss - Larry is computer savvy and gets ordered and info right while you're standing there! Other folks comments about his personality and demeanor are accurate - he's got a great reparte with new customers and absolutely knows his craft. I am a total beginner, but Larry assured me that I would bowl better with a custom drilled ball. After bowling twice with my new ball, I see he was correct. I'm a beginner bowler who dreads renting uncomfortable shoes so I decided to check out Larry's Pro Shop conveniently located inside the bowling alley. Larry immediately greeted me and asked if he could be of help. I told him my shoe size and wanted to try the least expensive shoes. He told me to let my feet do the talking and boy he was right! I moved to the Portland area a couple years ago. I was leary about getting a new ball drilled from a new place(aren't we all?). Larry took care of my needs and drilled up THE perfect ball. I'm pretty picky when it comes to the fit of my thumb, and Larry nailed it on the first try. (I shot 300 with it while I practiced on the lanes) Since then I have gone nowhere else! A couple years and 15 bowling balls later, and Larry is still the only guy I trust with my equipment. Great job to him and his staff! I wish I could rate higher than 5 STARS. I'm an occasional bowler but decided I needed to get a ball and get away from using house balls. I went to Larry's, pleaded my ignorance, and he was so graceful in making the process easy and informative. I chose a ball and he ordered it in. ONE DAY later, I had it drilled to fit my hand and was ready to rock. From someone who is usually a 110-130 bowler, having my own ball made a WORLD of difference. You're thinking to yourself "Well I've started bowling a bunch, maybe I'll just buy a ball online. Oh, but I'll have to have it drilled and get fitted, I'll just take it to a shop? I guess?". Here's the thing - Larry is the reason you want to start at the pro shop - specifically at Larry's Pro Shop. Larry will spend the time to answer all of your questions and get your fit just right - even if you've got a weird thumb and it takes forever to figure out what fits. He can get you any ball from the major bowling manufacturers and he'll work with you after you've had a chance to try it out to make sure your ball is perfect for you. Once you realize that the prices for balls in the pro-shop include all of the above - it's a no-brainer. You're not gonna get this level of service from a website because it requires hands-on attention, and it really helps when you're getting that from a really nice guy with a quirky sense of humor to make you feel better when your fitting is taking, literally, forever. read more

I needed to get a new ball and came in on a Sunday with both kids in toe (6 & 3 years). Larry was extremely busy, another good sign of high quality, but welcomed me and my kids into his shop and gave them both paper and pens to draw with while we waited. After a short wait he came over and asked me several questions about my bowling style, current ball and price range expectations. He was very accommodating and made me and my kids feel right at home with no sales pressure at all. After I got my ball sized and drilled (within 30 minutes) he gave me his business card and let me know that if I had any troubles with the ball or if I found that I needed adjustments to simply come back in and he'd adjust as necessary free of charge. I left with very positive thoughts and highly recommend him to anyone looking for bowling equipment or advice. read more

This is a great pro shop that excels in customer service. Larry and his staff are very knowledgeable and if you listen up while you're in there, you'll catch some good bowling tips (and banter) that could only improve your game. There is something for everyone there, from the most casual bowler, to nerded-out lane-junkies like myself. Larry's Pro Shop is the place to go! I bought my wife a $100 gift card for Christmas so she could replace her old bowling ball from high school bowling that cracked. Larry was awesome. He reminds me of how customer service used to be. Larry was funny and friendly. He drilled the holes on my wife's new ball, and even gave her a free game and shoes to test everything out. Based on ratings I found I decided to see Gary and Larry when getting back into bowling. They have my business for life. Below is my experience with them, which I tried to keep brief. If this is all you read I want you to know that the guys at Larry's Pro Shop are great with people and have a pride in their work which ensures you are completely satisfied with your equipment. I started out working with Gary to get a ball that would be a good benchmark ball for my aspiring arsenal. He was very personable and didn't mind me asking all kinds of questions. After talking for a bit on what I was looking for in a ball he measured my hand and even had me throw half a dozen balls to see how I threw. The ball he picked out for me was the Columbia 300 Freeze and boy was I happy when he told me they had a used one for half price. He drilled it up while I waited and I immediately took it out to play. Amazing reaction but I digress. What really sold me was when I had to go back because my fingers would get bruised after a couple games. I called the shop and Larry answered. I told him what was going on with my new ball and he was very insistent that I come back in so he could figure it out. "No one should be uncomfortable bowling" I believe he told me. He replaced the finger inserts for free, after I managed to destroy them taking em out, and asked if I wouldn't mind bowling a bit to show him what I was talking about because in all his years he could "count on his thumb how many times" he'd heard of my issue. Larry decided to plug and redrill without finger inserts and see how I respond. I go back in a few days but really felt I needed to write this review in the mean time (and I barely leave feedback on ebay let alone write reviews.)
