Love the Birria tacos! I would gladly return just to eat that. Must pair w hot sauce but use sparingly. Super friendly mom and pop shop atmosphere.

The sliver of chewy carne Asada Burrito/Steak Burrito in the sea of rice.

As our quest continues to eat our way across America we stopped at Las Cocinas Mexicanas at 1673 Main St, Leicester, MA 01524. Reviews seemed pretty solid so we thought to give it a try. What a disappointment. We've had burritos from all over the country and this by far had to be one of the worst. Where should I start, from the lack luster plain flavorless rice , which there's a lot of, actual majority of the burrito is rice. Hardly any meat or cheese and sour cream. Just a few tomatoes and a couple pieces of romaine lettuce , just enough that it counts as an ingredient. The carne asada , when you do find some in the sea of rice, is chewy and cut so small that it's hard to tell if you've gotten any. The Al Pastor is slightly better but still no flavor and is unrecognizable from the rice. For $11.25 a burrito it's not the best choice. I've had better for $9 or less. Maybe it's the best you can get in this area and the locals are used to this plain tasting wanna be burritos. I wouldn't recommend eating here nor would I be returning.

Leaves a lot to be desired. The ingredients were very fresh, but it would have definitely used some pico or even queso. (Chicken burrito)

As I once posted before, why is it so hard to find decent take out in this area?…read more My wife LOVES Mexican food and was excited over this place opening up. We had gotten take out before from Mexicali's, but seems better dine in vs take out. Underwhelmed is the best description considering the high hopes we had intended. I got the Carne Asade. They asked and I requested Med rare, steak came out well done and kinda dry and not much flavor. White rice had no flavor, included a salad that came with no dressing. Didn't even receive any wraps we thought were included. BTW: Why do these dopey restaurants put the "COLD" salad in with the "HOT" meal???? Thank god they don't have Ice cream! Otherwise, I might have found that in the container too! The salsa seemed good at first, but after a few bites with the greasy chips included, it was also bland, very little flavor. How about some Cilantro and Lime guys? Maybe a little Salt and Pepper? I've had a better experience at Chipotle's, and they're a CHAIN! There is a Framingham location, with rave (or fake) reviews. Maybe they need to send the cooks down to Leicester? Lift these dopey cooks up in the air by their shirt collar with one hand, then slap their faces back and forth all while saying: STOP PUTTING COLD SALAD IN WITH HOT FOOD! "SLAP"! "SLAP"! Honorable mentions: Cancun Family Mexican Restaurant in Kingston off route 3 (was a Ho Jo's back in the day) and Casa Vallarta Northborough near Walmart. As for Mexacali's..Ehhh... Kinda expensive and mediocre for take out.

We went in this evening and ordered the Chicken & Sausage Penne Alforno! Prior to that we had some appetizers. The mozzarella moons are always good & they brought over the chicken quesadillas (which had no chicken)! So ok, enjoying my mango mai tai while my friend was slugging back a cold one! Dinners come out, both the same, they look great, and the first bite they are like spicy as hell! Felt like the devil walked into my mouth and wiped his feet!! Oy!!! Ok so we start to eat and the sausage (when you could find one) was cut as thin as a coin, like you would put on your pizza, not on a pasta dish!! They should be utterly embarrassed to serve a dish like that! And you barely found any chicken in it as well. A truly disappointing dinner indeed! Our waitress was very nice and always there when you needed her! Dessert, ha-ha dessert! Two desserts both 8+ or 9 dollars! Bottom line....one sucky appetizer, two crappy dinners, couple of drinks & no overpriced desserts come to........A little over a C-Note! MasterCard- its everywhere you really shouldn't have been. Breaking into that package of Oreo's when you get home-PRICELESS!!

Last time it was edible, tasting more like high school cafeteria food than a restaurant's. This time it was absolutely gross and full of grease. It tasted rancid. I took two bites and pushed it away. We literally had a couple drinks here (getting two drinks from the inattentive bar staff took almost 45 minutes total time spent at the bar) and then went next door to Jasmine to get food because what we were served at Margaritagrill was so bad. Also, they have Bud on draft for $2 per glass. I ordered a Bud Light figuring it was the same brand so it must be the same price but were charged $3.50 for Bud Light draft Thats an expensive subtraction of calories. We ended up unknowing paying $1.50 more for each drink because we ordered Bud Light vs. Bud. Weird. We knew to stay away from the 'special' Margaritas because of the total lack of alchohol from the last time. How does this place stay open?

Had a sudden hankering for good, Mexican food. The Wife had been here many times over the years and…read moresaid it was good, so off we went. [You'd think after all the reviews I've written, I would have checked Yelp first, right?] We knew we were in trouble when we noticed that (1) not one table had salsa or chips, (2) the menu had perhaps four Mexican-esque dishes in total --- not the usual multiple page menu offering a variety of tacos, burritos, etc. and (3) the sides offered with our meals were two different kinds of fries, slaw, or chili. French fries with your tacos? Huh? Fast forward to the food. I ordered the fried shrimp tacos with spicy aiolo. Shrimp weren't fried, and the aioli was (as near as I can tell) a very watery and not-hot-at-all salsa-like substance. Opted for the chili as my side. Another poor decision on my part. I'm not a fan of really sweet chili, so if you are, this is your go-to chili spot. The chili had no heat and a lot of sweet. The Wife ordered the chicken quesadillas. Let's just say that it looked better than it tasted --- very bland and uninspiring. Just blah. So, about 43 dollars later, we left very unimpressed. Pricey for mediocre (at best) lunch fare, no chips, no salsa and not much flavor. Suffice to say, this is not a "Mexican restaurant" like I was expecting where, you know, they serve MEXICAN food. This is definitely not the kind of place where you are going to find a great homemade mole sauce or freshly-made tamales. Maybe go for the margarita's (it's in their name, so they have to be good, right?) and skip the rest. Note: The best part of the meal was our waitress who was quick to refill our drinks, personable and friendly. We left her a good tip; she can't help the bad food.
