I'll start with a positive. Walking into this restaurant gave me high hopes. The paint choices and overall decor are very pleasing. Bright but subtle and inviting. Plenty of tvs with different shows and games on... a type of sports bar feel. Now the bad part.... this is just my preference, but the salsa was heated and not what I'm normally used to. The hotter had some good kick to it and wasn't bad. The mild was tomato sauce with a green pepper chunk. Mixing the two and allowing them to cool made for a really decent mix. My fiance ordered 1 steak taco w/cheese, lettuce, & sour cream and 1 steak tostada the same way. We added an emphasis on saying no beans. No beans! No beans.. please. She hates them but by default lately the cooks keep forgetting not to put them while making the tostada.. el gallo, lalo's, la fiesta all guilty as well. I ordered the bistec a la mexicana. After about 45 minutes and a lot more chips, our server finally told us that the kitchen was running behind and that we'd get our food shortly.... 10 minutes later our food comes. A taco DINNER w/no cheese or sour cream AND a tostada DINNER with beans, BEANS, and more BEANS. Also, no cheese or sour cream. Bonus for us I guess since we were politely informed that we could have the wrong food but wouldn't be charged for the error - as if we would pay for it anyway. I took my bistec home and are the tostadas instead since she hates beans.. the only thing that had less flavor than the rice and beans was the piece of napkin that stuck to my tongue while I was spitting them out.. the beef as well was very bland, which was disappointing because it is good quality stuff, a la Mexico steak house (on archer if you know it). Upon receiving our check, I relayed my clever wit to the server who replied with a very damning, "yeah. I know. I don't any of the food here either, especially the beans." That part was good enough for me to thank her and tell her we weren't coming back. One last thing, the men's room floor was soaked from a leak and I nearly fell as well as 4 other people that I saw exiting the men's room. Per the fiance also, the women's room stunk like urine and had no towels or soap. I wish this place luck, honestly, but they won't ever get my money again. read more

Best Sit Down Mexican Cuisine in the area! This review is based on 4 visits to this location. It has plenty of parking and a large interior. The building style appears to be from a prior restaurant in that location but there is a full bar and open atmosphere. It is a good location for families and work parties alike. Some TVs posted around with mostly sports events. All the parties I have been with have been seated immediately and the wait staff has been attentive. The main lady hostess is always there and always prompt with service. Some work friends got us started on the guacamole. The appetizer guacamole comes in a red cabbage leaf and has all sorts of chopped fresh veggies included. It is very good. The menu does require a little time to read thru as it is not full of the common Mexican-american dishes I see in other Mexican restaurants. I have eaten the chimichangas and the flautas. I have stuck with the flautas but tried different meats. The chorizo was very good! I do not eat guacamole and I don't eat avocados. But this place does something that makes me want to order it every time. The prices are a little high compared to the other local Mexican restaurants but the quality is there. Very fresh food with sort wait times. Lunch is usually slow and work parties can get in and out within a reasonable time frame. read more

This place is great. Big. And great food. We go there so often that the waitstaff doesn't even come to the table right away to take our drink order or our kids order. They just put it in, along with our App order. I've never been disappointed here. Its kid friendly, lots of tv's if you're looking for that kind of a thing. The carne asada is the best I have had anywhere. The steak tacos are the best, shrimp tacos are real deal. The Mocajete is unreal, but too spicy for me now-a-days. The food was good and the drinks were great. The only negative was that they add 18% gratuity automatically to the bill. The receipt had a +\- option, but they should let their customers set the tip, or have a suggested tip at the bottom. Gratuity is optional, especially for a party of two. LOVE this place, our waitress was so nice, and their margaritas were excellent. Only problem was we got them frozen, and there was a lot of plain slush in the end, next time we'll try them on the rocks. My boyfriend got the steak fajitas and I got the steak nachos appetizer. Great chips and salsa to start. The vegetables that came with the fajitas were great, and the steak had a delicous marinade. My nachos were good too, and they have really good guacamole. My husband and I went here on a date night. Parking lot was very crowded, but the restaurant was less than half full. I don't know how people park if the restaurant is full!! Ordered drinks and those took a while, appetizers and then ordered dinners. The appetizer was out right away but the dinners those took a while. The timing was off. We sat with a finished appetizer for a good 20 minutes before the food came out. Genuinely enjoyed dinner at Las Fuentes. My first time there was a few years ago for my 21st birthday. They went out of their way to make me feel special, and gave my entire table (almost 10 of us) shots of patron on the house for my birthday. That was great service, and tonight I came back (haven't been there since my birthday) and was blown away again. They were very attentive, the owner came by and asked how everything was and thanked us for coming. Our waiter Carlos was great. They brought us complimentary dessert (a yummy flan--- and I don't eat flan!!! Well now I do) and as my friend and I were leaving, the owner thanked us and said the next time we were in we could have a margarita on the house. He promised. Over all, it confirmed me to me that despite the large variety of Mexican restaurants around my area, I should be going to Las Fuentes more often... Thank you Las Fuentes! Wow. Being from Arizona, I was leery of Mexican food in Chicago, but Las Fuentes rocked our world. We were greeted and seated promptly; then we were served chips and salsa just like in Puerto Penasco! The waitress was friendly and helpful and kept the food coming at a perfect pace. Chimichangas, Chile rellenos, and fajitas were all huge and perfectly executed. The seafood looked amazing, so next time we're in town we'll have to give it a go! read more

I have been hearing great things about this place for years. Today my family decided to give it a try! We noticed that it was a light crowd, 9 people to be exact, so we thought the service and food would be top notch! Well, we were wrong! My husband and I ordered a pretty simple meal, shrimp fajitas. It literally took an HOUR for us to get our food, and when we received the order it was WRONG! STEAK FAJITAS were givein to us instead. The waiter, who seemed to have been the only waiter in the place at the time, was also serving as the bartender. He apologized for his mistake and we thought our food would surely be next! Well it wasn't! Another 30 minutes passed and we sat and watched in disbelief as people who came in later than us were now receiving food platter by platter!! Finally our food arrived and it was very mediocre. No steaming pan of veggies and meat, just a plate with ONE SET OF TORTILLAS!!! For TWO SEPARATE ORDERS OF FAJITAS! This long wait for this mediocre meal was frustrating! Not as frustrating as our bill however! I feel like I flushed $90 for a family meal down the drain and they had the NERVE to charge GRATUITY! When we walked in it a was a minute or two of awkwardly standing there before anyone acknowledged us, despite making eye contact. We assumed they might be short staffed that night so we took that into consideration when finally someone asked us to wait a few minutes to be seated. As far at the food- the queso fundido was really good! And the sopes appetizer was good except for one that was supposed to be a fried plantain. It was definitely a soft mushy sweet texture like an actual banana, which didn't pair well with the sour cream on top. The chips and salsa were good. Also, the margaritas are gross. Both the blackberry and the watermelon. Just...don't do it. I've never met a margarita I never liked until then. It seems this restaurant has been working out the kinks since they opened. The parking lot is a little small...however, the food and choices were good. Just a bit of a warning...the salsa is a bit spicy - i personally don't like spicy salsa. The guacamole however, is very very good! I like that they have a wide variety of vegetarian choices as well as smaller and larger meals. The choices and food were very good. I went with my hubby and enjoyed the meal and service! I then brought my parents and kids the next time. It was just as good and again the service was good. I noticed that the place starts to fill up pretty quickly for the dinner service - both times we arrived between 5 and 6pm once on a Wednesday - the other on Friday. Went to pick up an order for door dash. The order had not even been started the lady at the register was the MOST rude person ever. Rolling her eyes told us we could give the order back and another dasher would pick the order. If you are going to work in the hospitality business you should try to learn to be hospitable. I've never had to write a bad review for a place that had decent tasting food. Unfortunately, this was my experience. Immediately when I walked in, I did not feel like anyone wanted to serve me. The hostess and the main service (older man) immediately turned away from me and got busy with something else. Finally the young hostess tells me I can sit anywhere. While I waited, I ordered a mango Margarita which was listed in the menu for $9. No one asked me what size margarita, which normally restaurants ask you if you want a small or a large. I just asked for a margarita. After a while I was brought one. After that, it took 30mins for someone to take my order. Finally when I get my bill, I see that I was charged $15 for the margarita. I said why was I charged $15? I didn't order a medium, this is the size that was brought to me. The man said "you should've ordered a small". There's another location up north. Maybe they will be a bit more kinder and accepting of all ethnic backgrounds. read more

Wait, so this corner is Alsip and not Mt. Greenwood. Oh dear. See, I had the misfortune of growing up in Oak Lawn, just a few houses south of 107th St. Being south of 107th meant I was in school district 126 and being in district 126 meant I had to go to school in ALSIP. And let me tell you, those trashball Alsipians gave me all sorts of hell for being one of the small number of kids in 126 from the much nicer town of Oak Lawn. I still hold a grudge against Alsip. Las Fuentes may prove to be the first not horrible thing from Alsip ever. In fact, it's pretty good. First of the all, the thing that bumped this up from maybe a 3, to a soild 4, was the service. All the staff my work group encountered was beyond friendly and very efficient. Definitely worth acknowledging. The food was pretty well done. Not the best I've ever had, but still really tasty and well prepared. The actual interior was very nice too. Tastefully decorated and clean. Not fancy, but far far from being a hole in the wall. So overall, Las Fuentes is a respectable sit-down Mexican restaurant I wouldn't mind returning to, even when the boss' boss isn't paying. But I still hate Alsip. Seriously, that town sucks. read more

I am a little confused as to how Yelp "filters" 42 reviews and disqualifies them from the actual rating when many of those are positive reviews that were written by reputable Yelpers? Leaving only 6 reviews...all of which hardly describe this place! I beg you to read the rest of the "filtered" reviews because they are much more accurate and comparable to the experience I had while dining here. We really enjoyed our meal. Dessert was delicious (can't recall the name of it) it was fried tortillas with honey and cinnamon and we ordered fried ice cream. The margaritas are great - made with fresh lime juice - not the usual sweet and sour mix. The second time we ate here I was just thrilled to find out that they serve ceviche! We also ordered an appetizer platter that was really good! Yes it can be a little pricey, but we still enjoyed our food and margaritas! The atmosphere was nice, very spacious and much different than any other Mexican place I've ever eaten at. The wait staff was friendly, a lot of polite, bilingual, college aged girls working. We had Allie A. as our server the second time and she was the best!! So attentive and extraordinarily polite! She alone made our experience worth the trip! Request her! Definitely try this place out. We are looking forward to returning and thankful to have a nice sit down place in Alsip! We ordered the enchilada and steak tacos. Had a margarita and a Long Island tea. Margarita was ehhh ok and Long Island Tea was ok as well. The tacos were good but a lot of fat on the tacos that made chewing tough. The enchiladas were undesirable and just didn't seem to be an authentic Mexican entree. The decor is actually nice and although this is a seafood spot I didn't get the chance to order any. Maybe next time I'll come back and give it another try. Traditional margaritas were good, flavored ones a little iffy... If you go, try the corn-stuffed tamales, they are excellent. Their guacamole is addicting. I recently moved into the area and was craving Mexican food. I read the reviews to see if the food here was worth the price and based on some of the reviews I thought why not buy some platters from here for my partner and me. The food was flavorless. I ordered two tampiqueñas: the steak didn't taste seasoned, the enchilada was plain and flavorless, the beans and rice were okay but for $24 for each platter I expected so much more. I also ordered nachos with carne asada. This was a mistake. For $13 I thought the nachos would be prepared like in other Mexican restaurants with beans, rice, lettuce, steak, etc but no, these nachos just had cheese and flavorless carne asada. The salsa is just tomato sauce dip, not the real deal. Honestly, I expected better from this restaurant, as it seemed like it was authentic Mexican food from the reviews here, but it is definitely not authentic. I should have gone into the city for my cravings. I would have spend less for real Mexican food that actually has flavor. I understand that they have to cater to the population in the area but if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not it. read more

I'm not really sure about our experience at Las Fuentes. The food was decent. The service was average to ok. The ambiance was a whole lot of "wha happened?". The price was expected. The first thing to realize is that Las Fuentes is a revamped Irish restaurant. They still have the frosted glass doors with the harp emblem frosted in. My guess is that it would be too expensive to replace every door and window. It does give the place a weird feel and look. The service was slow. Everything about the service was slow. The chips and salsa took forever to get to the table. Then we waited for the server to take drink orders and then we waited for ever to get the drinks. Again we waited a long time for the server to take our order and (you guessed it) it took forever for the food to make its way to the table. The food was good. Better than most but nothing so good that I would put up with the long wait. We had carne asda and a taco salad. It rated between "meh" and "decent". Closer to "meh". We ordered a side of avocado and they gave us slices that probably equaled half an avocado. The charge on the bill was $6 for the avocado. This did not fly with me. I questioned the server and he put on his best "surprised" face and act and the entire charge was quickly taken off the bill. I'd pay 2 or 3 dollars for the extra avocado, even though I can buy a whole avocado for $1 at Pete's, but I refuse to pay $6 for half an avocado. I'm not sure I would ever go back to Las Fuentes. They had their shot and I was not impressed but maybe they are worth another shot. read more

I went to Las Fuentes in Alsip for Taco Tuesday and loved my meal! We tried the steak, chorizo, and chicken tacos which were all delicious. The chorizo and chicken tacos were especially filling and the shredded chicken was so tasty. I think their beans and rice are so flavorful and are much better than other local restaurants! I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place until now. I'm surprised the reviews are so low! The specials are usually what I get and they are always exceptional. Last time I had some sort of chicken cheese and pepper dish that I absolutely loved, as well as some killer chunky guacamole for an appetizer. Forget what the other person said about the tiger shrimp too, since when I got them they were huge, cooked right, and succulent not to mention with a beautiful presentation. As far as Mexican in this area goes, this place is doing great. They have friendly service and good food. They even gave out free dessert last time I was there! There is a reason it is always packed: people wouldn't eat there if the food sucked! My taco salad had an ENTIRE avocado in it. That never happens for the price they charge. It's definitely worth a visit, and make sure you try their signature Margarita (it is $7.95 or something, but it's one of the best I've had). Don't buy a pitcher of those unless you have a coupon though... the price isn't pretty. One tiny suggestion is that they do need to get Horchata on the menu, but otherwise this place is just fine and is a great addition to the Alsip neighbourhood. read more

Took the family here for my mom's birthday lunch. It was our first time here, even though my parents live on the same street. It was empty for a Sunday afternoon, but the lofty ceilings, large bar, big flat screen TVs with several football games, golf, and other sports visually filled the place. The traditional Mexican music played in the background. Our server was polite and accomodating. The Enchilada, choriso tacos, heuvas con steak, huevas con choriso, paired with Asti Moscato was fresh and delicious.
