My husband and I were craving Mexican food and decided to try Las Mañanitas, and we're glad that we did. Upon entering we noticed the staff did a good job to social distance the tables. All staff were wearing masks and gloves. We started off with a small queso, which was very good and more than enough for us. The salsa was also delicious. We both ordered a specialty plates: fajita tacos with enchiladas, rice and charro beans. Everything was so good and again very generous portion size (we had to take home left overs). For years we would eat Las Mananitas on a near weekly, often bi-weekly, basis, but it has gone downhill very quickly. Portions have been getting smaller and smaller, quality has been dropping while the prices have kept rising. They only use nearly half the meat and cheese they used to. The rice and beans used to fill the to-go containers, now they only give a couple stale spoonfuls. Somehow they managed to make the beans less flavorful after adding pork fat. Tacos and enchiladas were cold and half soggy/half stale as if they were sitting out for hours. Even during a dinner rush the fajita meat was cold and tough like it was leftover from lunch. No tex-mex restaurant in the greater Houston area has any business serving food as bland as theirs has become. Before Las Mananitas started raising their prices it was a good value for their portions. Now they serve significantly lower quality food in smaller quantities for prices similar to restaurants only 5 minutes from them. Even their margaritas are more expensive than their competitors. I don't understand why anyone would pay their prices to drink in a restaurant with the ambiance of a dirty warehouse the day after a Cinco de Mayo party when there are plenty of options. They have even charged an addition/substitution fee for leaving cheese OFF without notice multiple times. One or two times could be an honest mistake, or a new hire. Multiple times is just money-grubbing policies or poor training. These should not be issues with a restaurant that has been established as long as they have. Just go anywhere else. I suspect that most of their regular customers haven't even tried similar nearby restaurants out of a sense of misplaced loyalty or habit. There are plenty of better tex-mex places within 5 minutes of their location. Some of them even have drive-throughs. read more

We just moved into the area and I've tried numerous Mexican restraints and have left disappointed every single time except here. First, the margarita flight was delicious! I ordered cyclometer, strawberry, passion fruit and peach. The presentation was cute and they tasted yummy. I ordered an enchilada plate (with sour cream and guac side) and two kid plates with drinks. My total was $38 which is incredibly cheap IMO especially for the quality. The customer service was excellent and the server was attentive to our needs, questions and our kids needs. Ordered the Mole Enchiladas. Food was served quickly. Very generous with the cheese. :) Was craving an agua de horchata, but they don't serve any aguas naturales. The food definitely falls in the Tex-Mex category. Although, I can't blame them for serving the demographics of the area. Only the refried beans had a more authentic taste to them. The mole sauce was flavorful. The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. Went here for dinner last friday night. Arrived and we were seated without a wait. Happy hour was still going on so I tried one of the large frozen margaritas. It was very good and only $5.50. The chips were brought out with 2 types of salsa. The green salsa was cold and the red salsa was served hot. Both were very good. For an appetizer we ordered queso. I was surprised that it didn't come with pickled jalapenos. I asked for them and they brought me a small bowl. Think it was the first time I have been charged extra for them.. For the main course we ordered the beef fajitas for two. A sizzling platter was brought out with a large portion of beef and onions. The beef was slightly overcooked but still pretty good. It was served with fresh handmade and delicious flour tortillas. They were great. The rice and beans were just Ok, the type you would get at most tex mex restaurants.. The staff was attentive and everyone was friendly. The tables and floors were clean. Plenty of parking spaces in the lot. The prices are reasonable. All in all a good place for tex mex. read more

Bland Tex-Mex at its very peak here. Not trying to sound like a snob and you'll probably laugh after I say this...BUT...still haven't found quality Tex-Mex like that in Pasadena while living here here on the west side. Yes, snobby Pasadena. Was about to give 2 stars but went with 3. It's a two part reason as to why I bumped to 3. Yelp can we PLEASE have .5 star increments? I want to give my meal the average, middle of the road, plain of a score as possible. I had pollo monterrey, and shrimp nachos (even though I ordered quesadillas but got nachos...but whatever...) and I'm walking away full but left no impact on me. Nachos were soggy but passable. Just chip, shrimp, and cheese. The chicken in the pollo monterrey had undercooked bell peppers and the meal as a whole was oily. The chicken itself while cooked looked like they pounded out a breast, tossed some black pepper on it, and grilled it. That's it. So at this point...2 stars... Now I know what you're saying... "he's trashing the food and he gave it THREE STARS???" And yes, the food was bland to terrible...but the salsa makes up for that. The red salsa here is GREAT. Warm, blended properly, and with some kick behind it. The perfect amount of heat. I ate it all while watching 90 Day Fiancé and I regret nothing. If they could only improve the food or at least the dishes I had, then this would be a little treasure simply for that salsa. But as it stands for me? The food was just boring with bland flavors. It's akin to food you could take your kids to and they wouldn't complain too much while you and your significant other are getting a break from chicken nuggets and tench fries. Hoping the person behind the Yelp account for this place of business doesn't PM me accusing me of being a competitor. We love to make a reservation here because it's usually a spur of the moment decision we make as a family to go out to eat , and most places will not have room for us without a reservation. The food is food and authentic at this establishment and they are always friendly. We came here on a Friday night for my college graduation dinner, and everyone in our party of five was pleased, especially my grandpa, who tried mole sauce for the first time and was awed by the unusual flavor (at least for a guy who's lived in Georgia and Michigan pretty much his whole life). This is a great family restaurant and as far as I can tell, the best tex-mex in Katy or thereabouts. The staff is friendly and service is quick and efficient. Although not to California standards, they have a heart healthy menu which goes a long way to eating better around here. Most of the spanish restaurants around here flavor their food with jalapeños and cheese. Not to say that this one doesn't do some of that they have a very unique, pleasant flavor to their food and many combinations of things that allows something for everyone. Went for dinner on a Friday night not knowing what to expect. We were seated promptly and our waiter was friendly and provided good service. It's definitely casual and you can definitely bring your kids/family to this restaurant. I ordered a Gran Marnier margarita on the rocks with salt. It was actually quite tasty!! I then split an entree with my friend so I tried the Tacos Al Carbon (chicken) and the Fish Tacos. My friend liked the fish tacos better but I found it a bit bland (the fish needs more seasoning). I preferred the Chicken. If I went back that's what I'd order. We also split a half bowl of the queso. YUM. It comes with real thick tortilla wedges that have been baked or fried (or you can use the regular chips from the free chips and salsa that comes to the table for dipping). All in all this place was good, I'd eat there again to try out some other entrees. Nothing crazy out of the ball park with what we had during this visit though. Apparently, this is everyone in Katy's favorite Mexican restaurant. I went here for lunch with some friends and their kids and all of them said it was the best in Katy. And everyone in the restaurant seemed to know them by name. As for my opinion (cuz that's what yelpers want to know, right?), this is, after all, a restaurant set in a strip mall in Katy. Inside looks sort of like a Mexican village...lots of faux paint on the wall, a little palapa bar, and commercial norteno music. There's two flat screen TVs at the small bar, both of which were playing sports highlight shows. So the atmosphere gets about a C+. As for the food, it was pretty good, a solid B. The queso was close to excellent and really stole the show. You know the kind made with some sort of processed cheese. Yea, you would never admit you like it in public, but velveeta makes some damn good queso. Delicious. The menu has all your standard Tex-Mex fare. The enchiladas were good and cheesy, the refried beans were flavorful and the rice had just the right amount of spice. They had a lunch menu and the prices were very reasonable. Dinner prices looked reasonable too. So, if I were ever to find myself in the Katy area again and had a craving for basic, straight up Tex-Mex, I'd wouldn't hesitate to drive over to Las Mananitas again. read more
