We didn't know what to expect at this place just pictures from Google and Yelp. So we went early since they don't take reservations, boy oh boy even at 5 PM, The place was already packed. They don't have enough parking spots so you park on the lawn on the side of the driveway. I really don't like Mexican restaurants but the guacamole and the appetizers were on point and so were the dishes. I can say that this is the first Mexican restaurant that we really liked so that means we are definitely coming back again. The place can get loud so get ready for that experience. Darn it! I've been here twice the first time was fine, good drinks no frills and I didn't want to see the waiter while I worked on my drink BUT... This last time for lunch. The surrounds were a clear 5 stars. The tiered outdoor seating and view of the gardens and reservoir were undeniably lovely. However, tables were wobbly and sticky throughout (which one could easily ignore underneath a white tablecloth, such as those being used for a special event on the lawn). Such things don't bother us all that much, but we did note the dramatic contrast of such kingly natural surrounds against the humble interior decor. Overall decor: 4. Family friendliness earns an easy 5 stars. We saw plenty of little kids (there's a bit of space to run around on the lawn), medium sized kids, and a few teenagers, to our great pleasure. Inclusive spaces like this make me feel at home. We have been told in the past that at less busy times, we could probably dine with the pup at an outdoor table. (Given the uncertainty, we've never tried, heading instead to confirmed dog-friendly places.) Service: 3 stars. It took quite a while for anyone to greet us outdoors or indoors. After waiting for some time indoors, a languidly indifferent hostess sent us back outdoors to wait. That same languidly indifferent hostess also made a number of attempts to upsell us on various things (e.g. more cocktails, bottled water, more appetizers, desserts) in ways that felt pushy and unpleasant. That said, we saw so many runners scurrying around at top speed to serve food and drinks. They really worked their tails off and deserve recognition. The food was 2 stars, with heavy reliance on pre-made, frozen ingredients. What we tried of it was just utterly mediocre. Frozen vegetables were boiled, then briefly sauteed with oil and salt. When it's the middle of summer, there's just no excuse for this. Seafood had the fishy nose and tough texture of previously frozen seafood. Enchiladas were not offensively bad, just very processed Mexican American fare, made with sauces from a jar and of course pre-fab tortillas. The prices would be excellent if one considered only the quantity of the food, not the quality. The latter is roughly equivalent to what you'd find at a diner. Note that there are no prices listed on the drinks menu. That might dissuade some from ordering drinks (or as many drinks) as they otherwise might. The one we ordered was commendably strong, though made with bottom shelf liquor, and to our happy surprise not too sweet. It was only $12. I recognize the beauty and appeal of the surrounds. You'll certainly want to sit outside if weather permits. And I deeply appreciate the family friendly vibes. But... the food is a pretty big ding for us. There is truly excellent Mexican / Latin American food to be had nowadays, even in nearby Danbury. This is not it. read more

I like Las Mananitas. Especially their rice and beans. Usually, I prefer black beans and rice but whatever they do to their refried beans, it's magical because I could seriously just go there and eat rice and beans. However, I like their other food as well. I've had a great chimichanga and last time I was there, I had some chicken nachos that were served on top of flour tortillas as the nacho rather than corn tortilla chips. It was very good. They have outdoor seating in nice weather and you can get a nice view of their back yard...if you're up high enough you can see a bit of the nearby lake. Service is always friendly and efficient. Even when the parking lot looks full, we've never had trouble getting a table. I think they have a good setup here...nice location, great food, reasonable prices and nice service. Haven't been here in a few years. They get very crowded so we came early (around 5pm) and got a table no problem. The location is spectacular - it really could be a high end restaurant or full time wedding/event venue because the view of the reservoir is amazing. The food was good. I'm not an expert of authentic Mexican food so I can't speak to that, but the enchiladas were some of the best I have found in the area. My daughter enjoyed her chile rellenos as well, and the guac was great. It did get quite loud mostly because I think they have the volume for the music too high, which forces people to shout to be heard over it. This place was worth the drive up to Brewster from Valhalla! We will be going back. First, the location is absolutely gorgeous and the restaurant itself matches. Big windows give away to an amazing view, while soft lighting inside gives you a cozy feel. Being from Texas, we've been searching, for the last 3 years, for good Mexican food up here and almost always come up short in our hunt. This place was one of two places recommended to my husband by a guy he works with. He said the owners here are from the same place he's from in Mexico. This got me excited. That excitement was not let down. To start we got ceviche tostadas. The portion was a lot larger than we were expecting, and they were so refreshing. The mole poblano enchiladas I got instantly made me smile. The mole was so good. My only complaint was that I wish there had been more mole in the enchiladas. They were a little dry. Last night Saturday May 2, 2026 we planned a little party to celebrate the birthdays of two of my sons. We had a reservation. Started out well, the server took drink orders, drinks were brought and we ordered the tableside guacamole for the table. The guacamole was made and two of the stone bowls were left. We had finished the chips that come with salsa when you're first seated. We asked the young man who made the guac for chips and small plates. Those never arrived. About 10 minutes later the waiter showed up to take orders and we reminded him that we were still waiting on plates n chips. We also ordered our meals. The small plates arrived a short while later, but not the chips. By this time we were ready for another round of drinks - Unfortunately the waiter (and other staff were nowhere in site). Maybe 10 minutes later the food arrived, we reminded the waiter that the chips never came, asked for salt n pepper that wasn't on the table and ordered another round of drinks. The chips never came, the drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive and 1 of the kids plates never came. We reminded the drink runner and he disappeared. 10 minutes went by and I finally went and found our server hanging out in a hallway outside the kitchen doors with other staff. The kids plate finally arrived along with the long awaited chips. We had 3 young ones with us who are normally great in a restaurant, that had begun getting restless because of the delays in being served. Well, the birthday honorees decided that ordering desert to celebrate their birthdays would prolong the lousy service agony to an unacceptable level. So, I went and tracked down the MIA server again, now hanging out by the hostess stand and asked for the check. I handed him my card immediately without reviewing the bill for fear that he'd disappear for another 15 minutes. He brought back the check for signature. I reviewed the bill which was correct. At this point, where I normally leave a cash tip 25% - 30% depending on the service, I did something I never do. I wrote in a 10% tip (not deserved) on the card and wrote a Note: Sorry but the service tonight was absolutely horrible. AITA - What would you have done? This place stays open because of the outside seating and the views . It's definitely a pretty atmosphere but the food is just ok at best. The salsa they serve at the table is like tomato sauce with some chopped onion and cilantro thrown in it's not great at all - and it was served with stale chips which we had to ask for fresh ones . Our waitress Bella was great but the food was so blah and nothing great . I had ribeye tacos on the special which was lots of fatty pieces so that was very off putting. Their drink menu has no prices - is that legal ?? I wouldn't go back , we were invited for someone's birthday dinner and we've been there ourselves before and that experience wasn't great either . The ambiance here is better than anywhere else I've been to in the area. And walking by the tables all the food served looked delicious! I had a craving for their beef fajitas and my husband wanted a bean and cheese burrito with refried beans & but he, nor my son didn't feel like going so I drove the 25 min to get there, bellied up to the bar and had a drink while I waited for my to-go. I upgraded my fajitas to the $32 Mother's Day Ribeye fajitas special that the bartender told me was even better than the regular menu skirt steak fajita that I liked so much. So my fault for not opening the containers to be sure I received the right order and posting this as a PSA suggestion for others to do. My medium rare ribeye fajitas with mushroom and onion instead was an overcooked steak (not a ribeye) with a big sausage and some vegetable dressing My husband's bean and cheese burrito with refried beans & rice was instead, 2 shredded chicken burritos and curly fries. But my son's shrimp fajitas were correctly done (no mushroom) so it was perplexing why 2 dishes were wrong. Not really wanting to drive another hour but still wanting what I ordered and not waste $50, I did call to see if I might bring the 2 orders back and get what I asked for but no one answered the phone so I gave up. Ok. This joint is huge - seating hundreds outdoors on terraced patios. There is a view, but it's not exactly the Alps or the Grand Canyon. The vibe is fast family food. The food quality is as one might expect - made fast, served fast, sourced in bulk, designed to satisfy the uncritical consumer. Oddly, though they serve probably 1000 of them a night, this place cannot make a basic margarita. I didn't go to the bar to look, but I can almost guarantee that they pour them 10 at a time from a giant premix pitcher or something. Two sips and it was left on the table. Our server was determined to get our drink order before our butts had even reached our seats. However, they neglected to provide the drink menu. He wasn't particularly enthusiastic, just efficient and in a hurry. Guac is mashed tableside and actually wasn't bad. In fact, if I went back - which I won't - I would only have the guacamole. The "filet mignon" that came in my dish had a somewhat mushy texture that left me concerned about the source and quality of the meat. The music was blaring and would make sitting on the covered patio impossible. But it was tolerable out on the open air patios. The appetizers were very tasty. The main meals were meh, nothing outstanding. The choices were good but the quality wasn't there for me. I was very very disappointed in the fresh guacamole, especially since I never had one I didn't like. The desserts, the two we tried were pretty good. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but didn't speak English well enough to understand us. We kept asking for less. The place was beautiful but looked cleaner than it was. Eating at the sprawling Brewster, NY Mexican mainstay, Las Mananitas, is much more than just a great meal. It's an event, it's an experience, and it's also some wonderful Mexican food. The place is big. Very big, sprawling room after room. And it can grow really noisy when the crowds get into full swing. But, as I said, it's big, divided into various dining areas, indoors and out. So while dinner may be a highly social (and loud) event for some, it can be as almost quite as a private dining room for others. Warm summer's eve, we opted to eat outside, away from the crowds. Instead of dinner in a mosh pit, we chose a quiet, almost private table overlooking the gorgeous grounds. Crowds of wannabe diners moved past us, never breaking our pastoral mood. Despite those passing crowds of diners, our waiter assured us that there was no rush, take your time, relax, enjoy.... And so we did.... The drinks were big enough to seem imposing, but not as strong as they were long. A bit more tequila, a more assertive lime sour would have helped make them worth the price. Meanwhile, far in the distance, we could make out the unending sounds of the revelers, at first loud then increasingly joyful. If I were in a party mood, I might have joined them. I wasn't; I didn't. Alicia ordered pork tacos with churro beans which were the highlight of her less-than spectacular, highly ordinary meal. Nothing wrong with it. Just too ordinary to justify the big room, the big noise, and the big price. I got Birria, a beef stew cooked with rich red guajillo sauce, just spicy enough to make any abuelita lick her lips in joy. Not only was it wonderfully wonderful, there was enough for diner and lunch and bit more for a side dish.... So it seems this kitchen is more than capable of turning out far-better-than-ordinary dishes. But the crowds, the rush, and the endless party seem to make anything really exceptional far too much trouble to bother. Bottom line, I really liked this very special place. Alicia, alas, not nearly as happy. If you're going for the food, choose the quietest time on the quietest day of the quietest week. Unless you want to party. For a place that was packed on Father's Day, the service was absolutely incredible. the staff here hustles and yet provides exceptional service in every way. The food is great and authentic. The atmosphere is beautiful. We were able to get different courses quickly and also have requests fulfilled quickly, such as getting lemon for our water or napkins. Staff are kind and helpful, even though there were a lot of people and things were definitely busy. Ironic thing is that I was speaking to a friend today and he recommended this restaurant a day after I had been there. neither of us even live within a half an hour. (I live an hour away.) My wife and I both have serious gluten sensitivities, made that clear to our waiter, asked if what we were ordering was gluten free (because it looked to be), was told it was and both of us ended up sick all night and the next day. Not that the management wants any advice, but if their wait staff doesn't know what gluten free means, they should say that to the customers.
