Unfortunately, not a lot of positive things to say about this location. We've been regulars at the Leon Springs location for many years. But, it's far from our house. So, we were excited when the new location was announced and opened in Boerne. It's been one bad experience after another. The first few times we went, they were actually closing or closed even though their hours on the door indicated something different. Then tonight for the first time, we actually were able to go. The service was really good. We had Julian as our waiter, he was the only really point of light. Other than that the food was bland, the avocados were literally black, the food was lukewarm, the atmosphere was loud, the restaurant was dirty, the bathroom had paper towels overflowing the trash. Worst off, they were playing fake news, a.k.a. Fox News, on the televisions. We won't be going back. Leon Springs location, we're coming back. read more

I really wanted to like this place. We went for lunch. People must think it's good- even the cops were eating there. But I can't say that I liked it. The menu was only okay- as it had the basic Mex food. It was crowded but we got a table fairly quickly. It's a huge place. It looked, felt, and sounded like a workplace cafeteria. There was no music at all... we got to listen to the rumblings and conversations of many people eating. The clicking of forks and spoons and the low rumble of conversation. Now to the food. Mediocre. The prices were higher than I expected for the quality of food. I had a bowl of soup that was pretty tasteless. My wife had the fish tacos and thankfully she shared one with me b/c as I mentioned the soup was awful. The fish tacos were very tasty. Maybe I just made a bad choice. I'll chalk it up to that. The reason we won't go back- and it's probably not the fault of the establishment- was that an odd lady stared at my wife and gave her weird looks- for the whole meal. Stared right and her and didn't look away. I honestly thought my wife was making it up and nearly didn't believe her until I turned around and sure enough. The lady gave me a dirty look but kept looking right at us. Yeah, it was pretty creepy. When we got up to leave, that lady stood up and watched us go. Literally stood up from her table and watched us go out the door. I should have flipped her off! I made sure we weren't followed out of the place. Will I give it another try? I think so. Maybe. I know it's probably not fair to judge a place by the customers- but it was just so weird that it made a terribly bad impression. read more

I was very happy to see that a Las Palapas was being built 7 minutes from my home. It's closer than the Leon Springs location. I have given this location a few tries and I am done. Every time I ask for sweet tea they give me unsweetened tea. The drive through people seemed annoyed when I inform them of the error. Most, but not all of the drive thru people have major attitude. On on Friday night I was meeting up with my family and came straight to LP from work. I used the ladies room and only one stall had TP and not much left of it either. I informed someone who works there and they said okay, when I went again before I left no TP was there at all. I am so disappointed in the service and don't get me started on the unnecessarily long wait times for the drive thru. I just came back since my little one wanted a bean and cheese taco. I didn't wait long to get to the window, but once I was there it was about 10 minutes before the guy even opened the window to take my payment. I get slightly better service at Taco Cabana in town and they have bad service. Just not as bad as the Boerne location. Save yourself some time and drive to the Leon Springs location. read more

On top of it taking 40 minutes with 4 cars in front of me, the bacon was undercooked, cheese not melted, in-correct tortillas and taco ingredients just bad, bad, bad. We love Las Palapas however the one in Boerne is poorly managed and has horrible customer service. They will hold parties at the door because the kitchen gets backed up and the restaurant is half empty. This is the 3rd time it has happened and the manager is ultimately rude about it. First, I need to give my bona fides. Since I was 4 yrs old in Dallas back in the early 1950s, I have craved Mexican food--all types, first Tex-Mex then the cuisine I had in New Mexico, Colorado, California, and Mexico. And since I've been an adult I've eaten at Mexican restaurants all over the country, from my now-home in Illinois (some great food in Chicago taquerias) to New York to Minnesota, Montana, Washington, etc., etc. And I am extremely picky. My reaction to MOST Mexican restaurants is that I wouldn't go back a second time. That's just as true for restaurants in Texas as for anywhere else. So when the friend I'm visiting suggested Las Palapas, I had low expectations but an open mind. And my dinner was WONDERFUL! Of the literally hundreds of Mexican restaurants where I've dined, I rate this Las Palapas as perhaps #2 or #3. The rice was delicious (and rice is usually boring). The frijoles refritos were sufficiently tasty that I could make an entire meal just from them + totopos. My beef taco was extremely tasty. The cheese enchilada--which VERY few restaurants get right--was a couple of standard deviations better than the average. The salsa that they served with the totopos was good enough to drink. In fact, we asked for seconds, and before we left I literally drank what was left. But at my request our server brought out some salsa "mas picante" (three different kinds) from the kitchen, and they were epically good. The ONLY thing that disappointed me was the totopos (tortilla chips). They appeared to be from a food service, i.e., store-bought. The very best totopos are the ones that are homemade, that arrive at the table hot and slightly dripping with grease. Las Palapas would do well to graduate to the real deal. Cost? I was gobsmacked. Each of us had a dinner. My friend had a soft drink. I had an extra large beer. The total bill was $37+. Incredible. This is an easy five stars. read more

Very poorly managed and extremely unprofessional staff. I went to this location to bring my daughter some school lunch. The line was very long at the drive thru but I've been in long lines at other las palapas locations that I got through in 15 mins so I decided to wait. I arrived here at 9:30. I made my order around 9:45 at the speaker box. I gave staff the benefit of the doubt for the time I was waiting " maybe the people in front of me all had very large orders". By the time I finally make it to the window to pay it's about 9:58 am. At this point I may be late to getting my daughter her lunch so prior to paying I ask what the estimated time of order completion is because I have to leave. The woman at the drive thru accepting payment told me 5-7 mins. About 13 minutes go by I'm still waiting and the person in front of me came to the window visibly upset from the time she waited as well as the fact they forgot two of her ordered items. At this point I'm about to leave even though I paid $23 but then they hand me my order. I figured since they forgot the person in front of me's order I decide to check mine. Everything was there but one of my tacos they clearly just threw in the bag, unwrapped and turned over upside down (clearly intentional). As soon as I pull it out the bacon, egg and cheese is spilled all in the bag they gave me, clearly an upset food service worker probably because I requested the status of my order twice at this point. I was polite and respectful but perhaps they felt rushed so they just decided to not even wrap my taco or close the foil that holds it, apparently they just said "eff it" and threw my order in the bag with absolutely no professionalism or care. I requested a replacement for the taco that they just tossed in there and they sent a manager out to ask what happened. I informed her and never received a replacement and didn't have the time to wait since they already at this point made me late to see my daughter. I've been in good service before so I know how things work, I didn't want a taco with spit in it, I've seen that sort of thing many many times in my line of work when I did good service in the past. This location needs to get its stuff together, hire new management and better staff. Absolutely horrible, NEVER returning to this one I'm surprised they are already a terrible place when they've only opened this one recently. read more

First, I'm gonna start off by saying that the people below this review that gave this restaurant a negative review are full of crap... I don't know where the hell they were eating at, but I'm not even from Texas, I'm from out of town, and know good Mexican food when I eat it and I ate at this particular location and ordered the cheese enchiladas with beef, refried beans and Spanish rice, it was the special of the day... it came out, piping hot, delicious, everything perfect. Not to mention the salsa is amazing here with the corn chips.... And I was greeted right away when I walked in the door by management, and my server, David, was excellent! Just remember people, generally, nine times out of 10 that leave reviews on here are always going to be negative and you don't hear the good which is why I felt obligated to leave this review.... I would give NO stars if I could. I'm not sure if the problem is in the front or back of the house. Kitchen seemed overwhelmed but our food was stone cold upon arrival after 40 minutes so it obviously sat for a while. There were plenty of servers standing around ignoring customers so that couldn't be the issue. The manager seemingly disappeared and no one was seating people by the time we left. I normally love Las Palapas and happy to have one in Boerne but this one is off to a very bad start and it will be a long time before I return. read more

i love Las Palapas...but i'm absolutely pissed at my last visit. I ordered an alcoholic beverage and showed the server my REAL LEGAL & OF AGE TO DRINK ID. a couple minutes later, the server comes back to my table with the bartender (tall girl). the bartender asks to see my ID and tells the sever "see how it isn't shiny". i told her i am of age and to take it back and scan it. they take my ID and my sever comes back handing me my ID apologizing and said something that i thought said he was going to bring my drink. minutes go by and the sever brings out my food. I'm confused and ask him about my drink. He tells me that the bartender said that my ID was not valid. At this point i give my ID back to the sever and ask him to go scan it assuming they didn't the last time. he comes back and tells me the bartender is saying my ID is fake and that i look young. i'm pretty annoyed now and the server is apologizing and says that even the MANAGER told the bartender it WAS a valid ID (because- hmmm IT IS.) The sever was very nice and understanding of my frustration. I tell him it's ok. Clearly this bartender didn't pay attention in her TABC lessons cause she does not know how to identify an ID correctly. read more

I think this location needs to focus on employee training. I've been to this location several times since opening and the wait time in the drive thru is always at min 20-30 minutes. I'm used to about 5 min at the Leon Springs location. Also, my order has never been accurate, not once! First time I didn't receive my onion and cilantro I asked for, second time they forgot to put the yellow cheese on my puffy tacos, third time I ordered the las Palapas special and they put the beef fajita inside the cheese enchiladas instead of on the side, last time they forgot to include my side of two tortillas with my las Palapas plate and salsa I requested. If you go through the drive thru do not drive off until you have thoroughly checked your order. And they have the nerve to have a tip jar outside their window and the guy at the window has a button on his shirt saying tips are appreciated. Okay we get it, you really want a tip! I'd be more inclined to give you a tip if you got my order right at least half the time. I was looking forward to a new place to substitute Taco Cabana in town but I might start going back there or Magues. Sorry Boerne Las Palapas but you've got some work to do! read more

Sitting in the drive through line for over 30 minutes is ridiculous. The attitude from the employees is horrendous. I understand the lackluster motivation from today's youth, but that is a reflection on management. Train your employees to "give a crap" and explain how the service industry functions. Happy employees equals happy customers who in-turn return to spend more money. No money equals no job!! I ordered the chicken soup which I have done many times. Sadly this time the chicken was pink in color. I searched the other pieces and more and more were pink. I brought it up to the waitress and she decided to argue the fact that it was seasoning that made it look like that. Took it to her manager and came back saying the manager said it was the seasonings they used all while she held the bowl close to my face and churned up the meat with the spoon. She tried to give it back to me to eat. I told her I was not interested in eating that and I knew the seasonings were not the problem. She left with it. She then brought the bill to the table which included the bowl of soup. I asked to speak with the manager. He never showed so I went to the counter. She walked up to me and told me to "have a seat, I already told him you wanted to talk to him." I didn't say anything to her except "thanks but I'm going to wait here." As the manager approached she quickly started speaking over me and said "I told her you were coming and to have a seat" I just asked the manger to remove the soup and the waitress again spoke over me saying "I left it on the bill because I explained to her it was the seasoning and she CHOSE to not eat it". The manager then argued stating that it wasn't undercooked meat because they boil their chicken for over an hour before putting it in the soup. Over an hour???? That chicken would be a hot mess if it boiled for over an hour. Finally got my soup taken off (because by that point I was insulted and frustrated.) Explained to the manager that I did not appreciate the way the waitress reprimanded me or told me to "have a seat". He couldn't care less. I will never go there again. The evening manager and the waitress (rhymes with Jessica) need some help with basic customer service skills. I will say times before we had great food and service but the last few times we have been, it's been very unpleasant. read more

Like most of the other reviewers I think this place sucks. The waiter was very unfriendly and it took over 1/2 hour for 4 tacos to arrive. When they finally did, they were not worth the wait. Been to several Las Palapas in San Antonio, but the Boerne location definitely needs some help. My daughter and I visited this past Saturday and it was not a good dining experience. We were sat down and the servers were arguing in Spanish who was going to take our order. We ordered one Pina Colada and one margarita to start. After about 10 minutes they brought out two large margaritas, one frozen, one on the rocks. Nope that's not what I ordered. I mentioned that this was not what I ordered. They took both drinks and came back and told us they don't make pina coladas. So my daughter then said she would just have a Sprite. But wait what happened to my margarita. I had ask them to bring me the margarita. Then I had to ask the server to take our order. She ordered a puffy taco plate and I ordered the chicken soup with a flauta, no sour cream. Soooo, after about ten minutes they brought our our order, puffy taco plate and a fajita plate. Huh, nope that's not what I ordered. Confused the server said that's what I ordered. Nope. I explained what I ordered. He apologized, took the plate and reorder my soup and flauta with no sour cream. So after another 10 minutes, out comes the soup, flauta and, here it comes, with sour cream. Exasperated I just said that was fine and ate it. What an exhausting experience. This location needs desperate help. One of the severs came over and told me that they can't keep good help because no one wants to come from San Antonio to work. Huh ok I guess. Please help this restaurant in Boerne. Guess I'll just stick to my Las Palapas on Blanco. They do it right. read more
