We've eaten here multiple times but this last rime was it for me. Every time we walk in inside it smells like dirty, funky mop water. I don't know how to explain it, it just stinks. The staff is always extremely nice, and the food is good. It's your average Mexican restaurant, all the usual menu items. The part that we can't get over...The water in the men's restroom sink did not work, which meant any man who used the restroom was unable to wash their hands. Spanish is in my blood, so having a very picky palate for Mexican cuisine makes this place a favorite as I get exactly what I want. I choose those very unique items that don't appear at most standard Mexican restaurants. Nopales, lengua, pierna de puerco, and Menudo. The tortillas are fresh and perfectly made. The lunch prices and food is a great value. The prices are very reasonable. The salsa was very mild and had a strong taste of what appeared to be garlic. There's rarely Bern a restaurant I have experienced that cared this little about the flavor, ambience, service and the food. We popped in on a whim and right off the bat we had a bad feeling. Smack on the middle of lunch hour there were maybe 5 people there including the two of us. Which we felt odd but we went with it hey at least we won't have to wait so long. Not the case. The table we sat at looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The menu was sticky to the point we used napkins to open it. The waitress couldn't care less whether we were there or not and made it obvious she didn't want to be there and made sure her actions showed as much. Chips and salsa were brought out. Chips were low quality out of a bag but hey I m not picky. The salsa kid you not was pace picante. Now I don't dislike pace but seriously to go to a Mexican restaurant run by Mexicans be served that is pretty much an insult to Mexican food. We asked for any other salsas and the waitress acted like we insisted her. Snorted to show her displeasure and brought us two other ones. Which were apparently made in House now that's what we want when we go to a Mexican restaurant. Too bad one was too bland and little to no flavor and the other was just spicy with no real flavor. On to our entrees. I ordered a chimichanga plate and a beef burrito. My wife ordered chicken with creme sauce. The food across the board was bland. The chicken was under cooked, the chimichanga was fried well but the steak was very low quality, and bland as all gets. The beef picadillo in the burrito tasted wayyyy too fatty and againhad next to no seasoning. I rarely add salt to my food simply because I have a very forgiving pallate. But it was salt on Everything multiple times. To top it off I bit in to a small pebble in my beans on the first bite. We specifically asked in Spanish and English if the beans had pork in them. Neither one of us eat pork. Now we understand and have no problem with the fact that many restaurants can't accommodate us and that's totally fine we usually go with charro beans instead of refried beans or go with extra rice no beans. The waitress went back to the kitchen and came back saying there's no pork in The beans. Guess what were beans made with? Bacon. When I pointed it out to the waitress she simply shrugged and walked away leaving us in disbelief at the lack of professionalism. We truly were shocked at her apathy. She never refilled out drinks put the plates down without looking at us and huffed away. We never got the limes we asked for and never got the jalapenos. Even tho we reminded her twice. For the most part she was on her phone. When I spoke to the manager simply to point out that the waitress is bad for business he couldn't care less. Even tho I started with telling him that I am not looking for free food and won't accept a comp. He simply said oh ok and started looking around as if it was some enormous chore him having to talk to me. It's rare that I complain about food in fact I don't leave a bad review unless I've tried a place at least twice and usually 3 times but these guys are there to collect a paycheck and couldn't care less about customers or hospitality. They're in the wrong business. The owner whom I didn't see should start making changes else these guys will run his place in to the ground seems it's halfway there already. read more

Are lunch here today, food and service was excellent! Food came VERY quickly. We ate here a year or two ago and the service was HORRIBLE and the food was just as bad. Since then i believe the ownership or management has changed and they have fixed all their problems. The food was MUCH better. The salsa is pretty good, could use more Cilantro. I just she all my Mexican restaurants on the quality of the salsa. This is good, not the best, but ranks middle of the road. The cheese dip is white cheese dip which you can not find anywhere around here so the cheese dip is a plus as well! If your in to burnt chips and weak margaritas this is the place. I should have walked out when they placed burnt chips in front of me. I like to sit at the bar, so I can see what is put in my drink. They put a half shot of tequila in a jumbo margarita. I had to order another shot to try and fix it. Total cost of a bad drink 18.00. My nachos were on burnt chips with runny grey beans and a sprinkle of cheese. I guess I'll have to drive to SA for my nachos and margarita. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Quite a lot of food, only $7.50. Very bland. I asked for green sauce. Not very hot. The red sauce served with the chips is better, more kick. My lunch mate had the steak tampiqueno. He liked it. The service was pretty good. We had two servers tending to our needs. Refills and whatnots. The flour tortillas were just fine. I think I would go back. read more

Full disclosure: this was my first time having any Mexican food in this area but it just wasn't very good. Generally speaking, the food didn't have much flavor at all. Even adding a good amount of salt didn't seem to help much. The carnitas I got in a taco were mostly fat. I know carnitas tend to be on the fattier side, but we're talking about finger-tip sized hunks of fat throughout the taco. The beans were also flavorless to the point that my bean-burrito annihilating son took much pushing to get him to eat even half. They did have happy hour margaritas which was a nice touch, but there was no discernible alcohol present and they were just super sweet and not very good. I don't know what people's problem with this place is. It's my go to. I've been here probably once a month over the last four years and never had any problems that they wouldn't fix right then. I get the lime margaritas on the rocks and they're very good and I'm very picky about my margaritas. We usually get the fajitas for one which is enough for two people and we split it. The enchiladas are also very good along with the "restaurant" salsa. It's not the most atmospheric restaurant but I go for the food and the servers who know our order before we sit down. read more

As a Southern California native visiting, I'm perhaps biased in my opinion. In fact, I'm sure of it. I ordered the chilaquiles, dad ordered huevos rancheros, and mom ordered a breakfast burrito. I got my meal maybe 3-5min before my parents. Now, typically chilaquiles come with eggs, lots of salsa, and cheese over fried tortilla strips.. these were baked chicken nachos. Did they taste bad? No. Could I have made them myself? Absolutely. There was barely any salsa to get that nice mixed texture of crispy and soggy chips, the chips were a little burnt on the edges, store-bought.. and no eggs!! Dad's huevos rancheros came with a generous portion of beans, eggs, salsa, two flour tortillas, potatoes & bacon, side of sausage. Sadly nothing like what we're used to in San Diego. Mom enjoyed her breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, potatoes and cheese though it's MUCH smaller than in California (and they say everything is bigger in TEXAS!) Overall-- it's inexpensive, tastes fine and the staff are polite, but it's certainly nothing to write home about. read more

We had good service. There is not a lot of flavor. We had the fluffy tacos for lunch and the meat was very bland and the taco shell on the bottom was soggy and mushy. Attention owners of Centinela's: We already have 3 bad Mexican restaurants in Boerne. We need a good one. "We hoped for the best, but things turned out like they always do." -- Viktor Chernomyrdin A very bare, very bland restaurant meets you upon entrance. But where are the servers? The hostess? We waited, and waited, until someone told us to seat ourselves. We waited and waited for a menu, for a glass or water, for someone to take our order. I counted four employees, and 50 empty tables. I could excuse terrible service if the restaurant was bustling, but it wasn't. It was empty. My son ordered chicken quesadillas. He was served a large bean and shredded chicken taco. When I asked where were the quesadillas, I was informed this was "a la Mexicana" style. Right. They had a full bar, so I ordered a frozen top shelf margarita with a Gran Mariner floater. I got something mixed in a blender with so many ice chunks, it should have been called "on the mini-rocks." The Plato Texano was bland, and soaked in grease. I was temped to squeeze the oil on a napkin, but reminded myself my name isn't Chef Irvine. This was straight out of Restaurant Impossible. And a quick comment about the smells. Somewhere in the middle of the meal, it sounded like a gas generator was started in the kitchen and the smell of gasoline vapor filled the dining room. That alternated with a very strong odor of Pine Sol, or urinal cakes, back and forth. In any event, it was an assault on the olfactory nerves. i don't know if they had plumbing problems, problems in the kitchen, problems with the waitstaff's union, or all three. My guess is the latter. We waited forever for the check, we waited forever for the credit card to be taken. Then we waited forever to get the receipt for signature. Our waitress was AWOL most of the meal. An older waitress interceded and at least helped us pay for everything. Just another bad night in Boerne. I made my son promise I will heed his advice next time, to just drive to San Antonio and quit these culinary misadventures. read more

One of the previous reviewers says clean....mm...don't know about that. When I walked in, waitresses shouted out to me to sit anywhere I'd like. Would've liked to, but every empty table had dirty dishes and remnants from prior guest. They ended up sitting me at the bar..in the morning....by myself. Awkward. Another ordinary Mexican food restaurant in Boerne. Oh yea, I had to find my waitress for more coffee. She came back and said that they're coffee machine wasn't working and it would be 10 minutes before I could have more coffee. Really??? I'm here for breakfast and u don't have coffee ready?
