Las Palmas is a sweet little resteraunt in a strip mall off of Page. The ambiance is colorful and the atmosphere is vibrant. The walls and tables are covered with Mexican art. My table was full of flowers, and I almost didn't want to spoil it with food. My lunch was cheese enchiladas full of stringy goodness, beans, and rice. Small, unassuming restaurant in strip mall that has been here for many years and serving up fantastic food.They have about 20 booths and 5-6 tables so be prepared you may have await. They offer daily and lunch specials, kid friendly and delicious margaritas. The salsa was some of the best I have had in a long time and that alone was a plus, I had the burrito and chimichanga combo plate for dinner and it was delicious, loaded with seasoned beef and flavorful sauce with a side of cilantro rice and beans. Rating this as my least favorite Mexican food I've had ever. The steak ranchero described as "tender cuts of flank steak slowly sautéed in veggies" is actually chewy cubes of beef stewed with broccoli, cauliflower, and mushrooms- which is not what I have in mind for an entree for this style restaurant. I may also mention I did look up what the dish was before ordering and in all the recipes it has more fajita veggie mix (onion, red pepper, bell pepper). The flavor did not make up for the mixup. The other meat from a burrito was over cooked and dried out. The dining room feels congested and closed in. The gigantic blue light bug zapper above the dining room tables adds the cherry on top to the ambiance. the service was very very friendly and welcoming. My wife and I joined another couple for dinner here last week. This was our first time. I judge a Mexican restaurant on chile rellenos and tamales. I had both and they were definitely made in-house. My opinion, but get those right and everything else will be. They were excellent. (and everyone's choices were great) The service, the food and the personal satisfaction knowing revenues and a good tip go directly to owners, not a chain, has me giving them a first tier rating. It certainly did not hurt that their margaritas are some of the very best and I'm quite critical on that. read more

Unfortunately we ordered this las palmas tonight via uber eats... I thought this was the incredibly delicious Las Palmas in Maplewood, I COULDNT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. Ordered 2 salads, fajitas, and "Margarita" cheese dip. They forgot the chicken salad entirely (probably lucky), the fajitas (perillada) was inedible the meat was so dry. Almost choked on account of chewiness. I was home from work with a cold today and truly think the couple bites I ate made my illness worse. ...I ordered from the correct las palmas and leaving my house sick to pick up, that's how much redemption I need. This "las palmas on page" meal is going straight in the trash. Will not be making this mistake again. read more

To our surprise, this was some of the best Tex-Mex we've had in Saint Louis. The biggest surprise was that it is in Overland and not down on Cherokee Street. We discovered Las Palmas through a Entertainment.com Coupon and when I checked it out here on Yelp, several of my friends had given them 4 Stars. So we thought why not give them a try. The SO had an ice tea, but when I'm having Mexican fare, I need a Margarita. Theirs is made with a good mix, it's not too sweet and not too sour. It's just the right mix and they do not skimp on the booze either. One Margarita at lunch had a nice punch. They were quick to bring chips and they bought us two small dishes of salsa. When the server sat them down, I asked him if one was spicier. He informed us they were the same. How cool, we each got our own dish to dip our chips. No need to worry about double dipping. The chips were fresh and still warm when they arrived to our table. We also experienced their Cheese Dip which was the typical white cheese dip that you get at most inexpensive Tex-Mex restaurants. Our entrees is what separated Las Palmas from the other Tex-Mex places we've been to. Both side dishes really shined. The Cilantro Lime rice was a pleasant change from the traditional Spanish Rice. It was moist and refreshing. Their re-fried beans were a nice change too. You could actually see beans, in a spicy thick broth. The Burrito Supreme was huge. It was packed tight with beef and topped with melted cheese and sour cream. A side of Guacamole was the perfect accompaniment. My Pollo Ranchero was a burst of flavor. The grilled chicken, big pieces of pepper, onion, black olives and broccoli. They served it with some fresh flour tortillas. I filled two of the tortillas, but the chicken and veggies were so good I finished mine without using anymore tortillas. We ended the feast with an appropriate dessert, Flan. When ever I see Flan on a menu, I have to order it and I am glad I did so here. This is best Flan I have had and I had to share it. Next time I'll know better and order my own. Our server was good, but he was rather quite. I don't think he spoke that much English. read more

I got Cold food that was missing several items. I ordered at 7:45PM and the cooked it it at 7:50PM The order was set for 9PM The manager had his staff cook the meal AN HOUR AHEAD OF THE DELIVERY. The deliver was pushed to 9:10PM, then 9:30PM by the restaurant. Then 9:50PM due to the driver. When I got it, it was missing quite a bit, the pico, lettuce and cream and extra tortillas. This was Triple Fajitas. We all know what comes with it. Not to mention the rice and beans and fajitas were put into a single styrofoam tray which had beans leaking out of it and was broken. I paid 16 bucks for a ridiculous small amount of food. Also I'm allergy to flour, and I requested corn, even after their website said they only serve corn. They sent flour. But it gets better, I call up there and the owner instantly starts blaming the driver for the missing food and tardiness. I'm livid. There's no way a driver is going to eat just the Lettuce, Pico, Cream, and tortillas. But the owner refused any responsibility told me to call the company. The manager insisted it was all the driver. For my wife and I, we get that eating out, like most everything else, is truly subjective. For example, my wife likes salsa and hot sauce that would burn the paint off of the space shuttle and I, on the other hand, prefer mine far more subdued - as in, leaving my lips and innards without smoldering embers either in or, to put it gently, out. That being said, our experiences are really about sharing our perspective and those things that ring true for us. People say "authentic" as if that is a definition that holds the same meaning for everyone. This place is authentic, if you base it on the fact that the recipes are authentic to the owners and their personal interpretation of their offerings. Meaning, if I decide to make you a burger the way that I like them, you can bet your tutu that it's "authentic". Well, it is. No. Really. So, if you want Tex-Mex (lived in Houston and San Antonio, Texas for several years), or something akin to a more robust Taco Bell, this is not the place. The business isn't fancy. The decor is, well, ya' know, a salute the Mexican Heritage without making you feel like you've just walked in on Cinco De Mayo exploding in bright colors all around you. And much like the business itself, for us, the food is not fancy. I had the steak burrito and enchilada. My wife went with the steak chimichanga and chicken burrito (and the habanero sauce that had me sweating from just smelling it - she ate it all). There food is lightly seasoned and that allows for you to really enjoy the flavors of the meat(s). The cilantro rice was new for me but, still tasty. Not something that I had ever had before so I admit, the first couple of bites were, different but, not distasteful. Just, new. The beans - whew, tasty! The sauces. Not too heavy, and not too much. The chips were fresh, crisp and quite delicious. In the end, I think you might go here because you want food with substance that isn't like every other place that has a taco and beans. I think that you go here to have something that's an experience outside of what we may have come to expect from Americanized Mexican fare. The chips and salsa are flavorful and they have a large menu. On a Tuesday I ordered a combo with 1 cheese enchilada, 1 pork tamale, cilantro rice, and corn cake instead of beans. Best thing on the plate was the rojo enchilada sauce which made the enchilada taste great. The corn cake was a little bit dry. I liked the tamale. Service is friendly and speedy! My wife and I have eaten here about 15-20 times. In the last 6 weeks. My wife is pregnant (in her second trimester) and has had major food aversions. Most nights, all she wants is a bean burrito and some chips with queso dip. Sometimes she'll get creative and order a tostada with beans, but then she's right back to the bean burrito the next day. We've been there often enough that we have become regulars. We know the staff (say hi to Jorge for me) and we always chat with them a bit while we are there. They couldn't be nicer. During all those visits, I've tried lots of things on the menu, and my rating for Las Palmas has gradually gone up. Their chips and salsa are fantastic. Their burritos, carne asada, and chimichangas are good. Their beans are good. I don't love their rice or tacos, but otherwise, I've enjoyed everything I've had there. I really enjoy going to Las Palmas now - I can always count on good food and friendly faces. Definitely a five star option for me now.
