We ordered the chicle raspado (with less syrup -- and even then it was really sweet), pineapple-lime aqua fresca, papitas (homemade potato chips), and duritos (pin wheel chips). Although it wasn't the best snow cone I'd ever had because the quality of the shaved ice wasn't top notch, I still loved that they had bubblegum flavor and that they served it with bubblegum sticks -- what a fun detail! It's rare when I do bad reviews here on Yelp but this place is just bad and I had to comment on my experience: I ordered "Tostitos Locos" and I didn't receive that - at all. I totally understand that places have their own recipes & twists but this was just so bad and bland. It didn't have lemon, it didn't have Clamato, or chamoy... the fruit was stale... nothing was "ok" about it. The service was so bad and upsetting to make matters worse. I asked one of the workers for at least some lemon and she rudely said it "didn't come with lemon." I had to point to the item in the menu and advise her that the advertising claimed it did. She didn't even attempt to make it right. I wish I would have taken a picture - but I just threw away. Seeing that this place is almost always crowded keeps me away. Recently, I had some time to drop in; just in time before the line got long. Phew!!! They have so many options to choose from, all kinds of Mexican favorites, but I already knew what I wanted. The esquite con elote cocido and a raspado de coco con nuez. I'm always out for coffee, teas, and juices, so this was nice for a change. Now that I've gone I see why the lines are so long. The raspado was the best I've had this side of the border. They top it off with some pecans for extra nuttiness. As for the esquite, it tasted pretty normal but the serving was large and at a decent price. Another difference is that they offer the elote quemado, which means they'll let the corn kernels cook longer so that they become smoky in taste and burnt in appearance. Overall, I liked the quality and the different offerings. Not so pleased with the overall cleanliness of the place, but it shouldn't be that big a deal if you're just picking something up and taking off right after. read more

I was really dissatisfied with my experience here. The "Aguas Frescas" tasted like kool aid. I was expecting something fresh and somewhat natural. The windows were covered in finger prints and the space looked unkept. The service was slow which I guess can explain why this spot is always packed when I pass by. I've been coming to this location for years. They have several others, mostly in the Los Angeles area which I've visited but my favorite are this one and the one in El Mercado on 1st street. But let's talk about this location. As I said, I've been coming here for years for my large esquite cosido. My husband usually has the raspado de vainilla or chicle. He's also had bionicos, corn, and churritos with limon and Chile. My esquite is delicious. I'm not sure what they cook the corn in but it has a particular taste that other places who sell corn in a cup don't have. What this one has that the one in LA lacks is a proper sitting area. Sometimes you just want to sit down and eat your antojitos right away. There is a also a restroom, it's not the cleanest but most places don't have public restrooms anymore. It's great that you can see your order being made and it comes out in a timely manner. Over the years I've seen this place get more crowded and prices go up. It's expected and it's still at the point where I don't mind paying the price increases. It's a .75 cent charge if you use your debit card for orders under $10 so BRING CASH. They do not have an ATM on site. You can pull up to the place and park on the Main Street right outside but I don't recommend that. There is rear parking belonging to that plaza and a really convenient rear entrance. The reason why I am giving this place 4 stars and not 5 is because they've messed up on my order about 2-3 times and each time the lady who makes my corn gets upset at me. I can't eat spicy foods so I ask for my corn with no Chile and in their haste they forget my order and put it in. I don't know about you guys but if I don't eat messed up orders. Especially if I'm paying for it. Also, I'm not mean about it. I was taught to get respect you give respect so I am nice about the order and I don't expect refunds or free food. I just want my order somewhat correct. So when I go up to the counter because there is a lot of Chile in my corn, I tell them it's wrong and I show them my receipt to prove my order....I won't stand attitude. I'm sorry that I'm not the kind of person who just sucks it up and eats it. That is why I don't give this place 5 stars and the only reason. If you've ever had 'nieve de bote' in Mexico then you know why this place is legit. I love Las Palmitas because it's the closest thing you'll get to the 'real' stuff in Mexico. I'm so happy I don't have to drive to east LA anymore for my fix of esquite or ice cream anymore now that they're down the street from my house. I go here about once a week for different things but lately it's been the chamango. OMG. To die! I love it so much! It's mango ice cream with chamoy and hot sauce with mango chunks. Freaking amazing. I know people have a hard time processing the sweet+spicy flavor profile but it's worth a try, trust me. Other favorites of mine are the raspados both the coconut and walnut flavor are amazing! They're not stingy with the toppings either which is good. Only downside I'd say is that they're ALWAYS busy. No matter what time of day you go, you'll be waiting at least 25 minutes for your goodies. Other than that, this place is a gem. read more
