I was craving an alambre this afternoon. Why not go to a taco truck to support small businesses. I was very disappointed. Will not be coming back to this place. Workers don't even wear face masks. I've had it before but today my first plate I had was too salty . I called and asked if i could get it remade . I asked if I had to bring the food back . So I haven't been here in a few years and the service has gone way down. I asked the woman taking my order how big the gorditas were and she showed me. I asked what they put inside the gorditas and she told me. She took my money, gave me a ticket, and turned around. I was just standing there for a second cause she didn't say anything but whatever. Off and on I make my taco run during my lunch breaks. Service can vary, it depends what time of the day of the week or year. Sometimes the truck breaks down or they move it in the residential area so stay put and make sure you drive into the recycling area. Be aware the salsa's are not really salsa's but more of a picante. The green one is the mildest the rest will kill all parasite's in your pancreas. The gorditas are usually bigger then my face and they are not shy with the servings especially the cheese! It will be a sloppy adventure! The tacos are street tortillas size tacos. That being said the tacos are small but you can enjoy fresh radishes and homemade pickled carrots. Those I consider my veggie intake. I have tried just about every dish on the menu and i have learned to take breaks during the year and only because the picante can kick my ass in the middle of the night. I have a nasty habit that my lips do not get burned but my small intestine will pay the price and that is usually in the middle of the night (LOL) The seasoning of the meats is "OK" but for the cheap deal your getting its pretty good. they only offer soda-pop and that is a bummer. They do NOT accept plastic only cash. (bummer) Another bummer is it is next to a recycling center so it gets stinky. Not all the times but sometimes. Phone call orders? Yes they do offer phone orders but sometimes they hangup. I was not rude but if they run super busy they can afford to hangup on you. Just being honest. Legit, yummy, spicy Mexican food. I wasn't sure about hitting up a food truck behind Stater bros. But once I got up close and saw the pictures of the food I was getting hungrier by the second. The boo and I had tacos (carnitas, asada, and barbacoa) and a torta de cubana. They give you little containers to get salsa and limes as you wait. Holy crap both the red and green pretty damn hot and I'm a pretty white washed Mexican so I gave up after my first bite. The cubana torta has its own salsa and peppers in it as well and it was delicious. It was pretty popular and we waited maybe ten minutes. It may have felt longer because they did have others outside the truck trying to sell other food or bootleg movies but we were planning to take the food home any way so I'm not about to lower my rating because of that. The void was large when Tacqueria 2 Guys closed, but a new stag has taken up the mantle of filling the taco needs of the area. Enter Las Tortugas Grill. Not a grill at all, but a truck posted behind the Stater Brothers on Edinger and Fairview by the neighborhood. Now I don't know their hours, but as far as I can tell they are ONLY here and are here at KEY times. I was pleasantly surprised by a taco truck offering a menu size that rivals most restaurants, certainly imo more diverse than 2 Guys. Not just tacos, but gorditas, huaraches, quesadillas, mulitas, tortas and a dozen meats to top and fill you up. Carne asada is for most the standard by which they measure Mexican food. I must first clarify carne asada is fire roasted on ideally mesquite which creates a unique taste. What MOST people east is bistek, kind of it's flat top grilled cousin, almost as good, but to me you can't call it carne asada. I found it too salty and a little tough, good flavor, but overcooked making it tough and a bit dry. Al Pastor was good, but also dry, great color. Carnitas also dry, but shredded nicely. My favorite was the cabeza, juicy, tender, not over seasoned and took best to the salsa's provided. Chorizo is not greasy and well flavored, but a bit masked with cilantro. I had the gordita which was a mess of lettuce, crema, tomatos, bistek. The bread was good, but was really designed to fall apart on contact. You'll have better luck folding it like a taco. Oh and this takes a bit longer to make. The huaraches use way too much beans and the tortilla was a hair stale. The onions and carrots and juice salvaged a little of that. The quesadilla uses a real deal tortilla, not that thin doughy crap you sometimes. Flan was basic. Cebollitas were not peeled enough as most had 1 too many layers. Unseasoned and a tag boring. Extra hot sauces are to be paid for at $0.50 each. The verde has little acidity, but an unlingering heat. The red is a very roasted with the same heat. The creamy light green salsa is best, but most mild, went well with most everything. Price is good, but service could be better. Trash can is a nice touch considering they've set up camp here. I was digging the radishes, but was hoping for a finer shred. The area is a little dirty from all the eating and gathering, you know food droppings. Also if you are tall you will hit your head under their canopy hood. A good variety of drinks (real sugar coke, yum). Cash only. A solid establishment that easily outdid 2 guys in terms of variety and overall quality, but in no way is a top notch Mexican taco grill. A solid Lonchera worth at least 1 outting. Maybe come early for lunch. My next visit I'm going for shrimp, fish and the rest of the meats, the other dishes will come. read more

Been going there for years and I've tried everything.. 1) tacos small yet stuffed with lots of meats,Asada is nice and tender,tripas very tasty, make sure to ask for them dorada mmm...cueritos a mixture of different pork parts is real tasty..suadero is also good.. 2) burritos big and stuffed can feed probably two persons beans rice and lots of meat 3) Picaditas are delish it's like a hand made tortilla with cheese green salsa and sour cream must try 4) alambres have Asada,ham,green peppers,onions,cheese and a stack of tortillas must try 5) salsas are like whoah. .dark green is for pros it's really spicy, red is spicy yet edible, my favorite is the yellow one it's the best, goes well on everything But don't take my word for it, get up and get on down to that truck you won't regret it read more

1st of all I would give 0 stars if I could I am very disappointed and I would not recommend this place to anyone I was a frequent customer but besides the fact that I could never ignore of how skimpy they are towards those salsa containers they give when you take to go. That's the first thing I noticed people ordering $30+ worth of food and receiving 1 or 2 containers for salsa that a shame and embarrassment for them like either get bigger containers or give more containers out it really makes you feel uncomfortable when you ask for more they give a nasty look. Not only this but makes sure if you ever come to ask how much things are and for them to break down the bill otherwise they will just overcharge you and say that prices have gone up what a sorry service. Can't believe they lose customers over little stuff like that I order some grilled onions with my order by the time I went back because they didn't put them in the bag they said I had not order them once I showed her I had paid for them she said the price of the other food I order had gone up that's just ridiculous rip me off in front of my face. I have tried the lengua, barbacoa, and carne asada tacos. Also tried the Hawaiian torta as well as the Torta Ahogada. I have loved everything I have tried and will be sure to try the alambre next. Very legit taco truck in a cul-de-sac adjacent to Stater Bros. and some sort of recycling operation (that is inexplicably ALWAYS crackin...probably cartel money laundering front). Prices were very reasonble and the food was solid. Tacos available in ALL the best meats (cabeza, buche, lengua, carnitas, barbacoa, asada, chorizo, etc...). Cabeza, is always my favorite. Yes food trucks are all the rage. They have bacon trucks, lobster trucks, ice cream trucks, indian lasagna fusion trucks and fire trucks, blah blah blah. This is the real deal og type of lonchera truck that started this trend. What's good? Tacos, tacos, tacos, tortas, mulitas, and gorditas and probably everything else but I tend to stick with my favorites. Old Faithful for me is usually the Tacos Al pastor which for all the gabachos out there is pork in all of its greasy oily goodness. Honestly, I could eat these all day at can take down 3-5 no problem. Close runner up is the carne asada which is also very good. While I recommend this place to everyone I know, 95% of the people are up tight about the area but sometimes you have to venture out of your comfort zone to get some amazing food. I had their huaraches with carne asada. I thought it was pretty good especially the melted cheese yummmmmm. The asada was a tad salty for me. They have a red sauce, green sauce, and another green sauce, I think it has avocado in it (kind of weird tasting, not in a good way).
