The dining area is utilitarian with the din of traffic from the adjacent corner (W40th/9th Ave) as a constant. Meh, it's NYC you'll hear horns and traffic everywhere at all hours. My company recently moved to Hudson Yards so I've been slowly learning about the places to get food in the area that won't cost you an arm and a leg. While heading to Port Authority Bus Terminal, I came across Lasani and thought I'd give it a try. This restaurant is larger than your typical take out spot in the area with several tables for seating. When you come in you see a counter with food on display behind glass. Towards the back of the restaurant there is a fun blackboard with suggested tourist sites to visit that I found amusing. At first I saw an older gent behind the counter and he kind of gave me a half hearted greeting, but then another lady showed up and welcomed me, offering a menu. I confess I kind of assembled a meal with her help consisting of chicken kebab, cooked vegetables and some salad. I also ordered a side of hummus with pita bread. The food was prepared fairly quickly (less than 15 minutes) and I was on my way. Keep in mind I would not eat the food until about two hours later after I got home and it had to be reheated. That said, I really enjoyed it! The kebabs were perfectly cooked and tasty. They were covered in a delightful sauce that was savory and tangy. The vegetable medley included radish and onions and it was very tasty. The hummus was a bit more "chunky" than I prefer but it had good flavor. I confess I was not a huge fan of the pita bread which was cracker thin. I prefer the type that is kind of soft and fluffy but it wasn't bad, that's just my personal preference. This place is amazing. I missed the bus and was looking for a late night spot to wait at until I caught the next one. This place is not only open late, it has the best food I tried the whole day I was in NYC. I could tell the person in charge of the food really, really cared about the meals being prepared. Lasani cured a whole day's worth of exhaustion from work. Open into the wee hours, Lasani provides no-fuss Pakistani bowls and platters. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and food is made on the spot. It does take a while for the food to be prepared, but it is so worth it because the flavors of their chicken tikka were phenomenal. Although I had Indian food before, I never tried Pakistani food and it did not disappoint. Based on what I ordered, it's more smokey and uses less spices than Indian food, yet it packs just as much flavor. I'm excited to try more Pakistani cuisine in the future! I ordered 3 things - a side of hummus with falafel, a fattoush salad, and a small mango lassi. I paid cash to be nice, gave $30 expecting change for the $22.85. The cashier gave me $7 back, and I said keep the change, about to leave when then gestured me to give the cash back and then she kept it. And confused I asked why and she said mango lassi $7 like she forgot to charge it. I was like $30 is a lot shrugged and went home. Upon opening the food, I was kind of disappointed with it all. The hummus was like tiny and it was thin consistency and bland. The salad was also a small portion for the price. Then I started to add up what I paid and realized it was like $10 each for that. Went here on a Thursday night with a mission to eat Mediterranean and I was surely not disappointed. Although they ran out of the lamb gyro meat (they prep a certain amount in the morning, so you know all meat is fresh), Hassan was quick to provide different lamb options. So I went with the minced lamb and the spicy chicken for my combo plate which was full of flavor. The salad was bomb AF too! DO NOT try hummus here. It taste nothing like real hummus. Lamb Burgers- they are OK. Nothing extra ordinary. Fries tasted good. Alarmed by how the owner treated and abused his employees. He was all smiley and chattery with us while he was yelling at the lady at the cashier since we got to the resturant. She looked terrified when she was taking order from us. I came here for a too good to go order. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, which is not a big deal by itself, but I did notice the group of guys who walked in behind me were immediately warmly greeted upon walking in. I told the employee behind the counter that I was here for too good to go, and he gestured impatiently with his hand for me to show him my phone. This was the first time I came here, and it will be my last. The food I received was literally a mini portion of rice and pinto beans with a scoop of a salad, scoop of hummus and scoop of cabbage. What a delicious surprise! I was walking around the block for a quick bite. As I walked into this place, the staff helped me to decide what I should get. I ordered chicken wrap and it was beyond delicious! They don't just pick and load ingredients into my wrap. They cook and meat, veggie and sauce. Got my order completely wrong and the owner's horrible treatment of the employees. After I ordered, the owner started taking orders of another customer with a smile and friendly tone. An employee (I'm guessing in her 70s) came up to him and asked him for some keys to something. His response? Tightly grab her arm and tell her that he's busy with an angry face. Then right in front of the customer, turns his head continuing to take their order with a smile and soft voice. The poor old lady looked distraught and another employee had to comfort her. Not only that but he got my order completely wrong. I asked for a cheeseburger (beef Angus). The female employee then asked if I wanted tomatoes and onions. I said no to the tomatoes. Then she asked if I wanted fries. I declined. I didn't get a cheeseburger. I got a kebab burger with tomatoes and fries. My sister lives near here, and I randomly stopped in once because the place was on Too Good To Go - I think $5-6 for a vegetarian dish. The dish included okra and it was SO GOOD that it was seared in my memory. I went back maybe 15 months later when I was back in the area. I wanted some okra again. It was a bit awkward as I walked in asking for okra, which they didn't have, but the cashier then handed me a menu and started asking me what I like, sort of seeming like she wanted to make sure I would order something without leaving. She recommended the falafel wrap, as I wanted a vegetarian option. She noted that the wrap came with home made bread. Let me tell you that this wrap was also super super delicious, if a tiny bit on the small side. It was not a typical halal food cart wrap. It had some cabbage in there, some nice creamy hummus, and the wrap bread was so good. The place is a bit unassuming from the outside, and it didn't look super clean on my second visit, but honestly it's just really good food. I think if they updated and upgraded their interior a bit (the refrigerators and AC were super loud as well), this place could really draw a crowd. Oh, and they also didn't accept cash. read more

I am visiting nyc and searched this place to get Pakistani food because it had 4.5 stars. I was disappointed by some things. I asked for a menu to see prices, they didn't have one. I looked at what was posted on the wall. I ordered two platters and asked for sweet lassi where it said drinks ($2). The lady helped me make my food choices but offered a bottled yogurt drink as lassi. I told her it wasn't sweet. Then an elder lady stepped in and said, I'll make you sweet lassi. All was fine I ate my food, which was good but slightly undercooked. The bill took me aback (almost $50). She charged me $6 for a custom made drink. She also charged me for tip without consent, which was the most irksome. I told them you should post your prices clearly. Will not be going there again. I left feeling gypped.
