Fantastic ! I had walked past Annapurna Bhavan so many times and always noticed the crowd waiting outside, so I finally decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! After about a 10-minute wait, the server was able to sit us at the bar. Since it was our first visit, we asked our server for his recommendations, and every suggestion was spot on. The dosas were some of the best I've ever had. So crispy, flavorful, and served with several delicious dipping sauces. Even though it's a vegetarian restaurant, every dish was packed with incredible flavor. The server also recommended a sweet dessert that was the perfect way to end the meal, and the yogurt-based drinks were refreshing and delicious. The wait was absolutely worth it, and I can definitely see why this place is always so busy. I'll be back!

Most of the exciting new dosa places around the NY/NJ area lately have been Andhra or Karnataka style places, with delicacies like thatte idli or gongura dosas increasingly available. But this new establishment is a Chennai-style eatery, similar to some of the older generation of South Indian spots in NYC like Saravanaa Bhavan. They are definitely still working out some kinks with the service. Most of the tables seemed to be growing a bit impatient for their dosai. We tried the paneer-masala variety and enjoyed the filling, although the dosai itself seemed like it had been rushed off the grill with a pretty pale color. We also tried the South India thali. I quite liked the kuzhumbu which had a lovely imli flavor. The poriyal was rather dry, and the kesari/sheera could have used more ghee. Not a bad option in west Midtown, but I would not necessarily go out of your way to visit.

Pretty decent thali place. The options are plenty. Food is fresh and tastes really good. Dosas are one the best! Service is great and you always find a table with them, even over weekends! Will DEFO go back!

Came here twice and the experiences were so different. The first time it was amazing - 5 stars. Great food and totally packed (we had to wait 10-15 min or so for a table). The second time it was mostly empty, no wait, and I didn't enjoy the food though my husband thought it was ok - 3 stars (though admittedly spice was one of the main problems for me the second visit). Overall, I would say go for the dosas, which are pretty good here, and the paneer curry entrees (though wasn't a huge fan of the paneer dosa which kind of fell apart). I didn't love the mushroom appetizer or the South Indian thali, which wasn't much food. Averaging out at 4 stars.

Sambar Vada

Really delicious South Indian food. We tried sambar vada, Mysore masala dosa, soya malai tikka, masala chai, and buttermilk. My favorite was the soya malai tikka - great texture with a creamy and spicy sauce full of fragrance from biryani masala. The Mysore masala dosa was a good balance of soft and crunchy. And the vada was fluffy and flavorful. The three chutneys - tomato, coconut, and cilantro - were fresh and tasty. The sambar was savory and comforting. I also enjoyed the drinks. The buttermilk (chaas) was really tasty in particular, with plenty of flavor from roasted spices. Prices were average at about $70 with tax and tip, with a good amount of food for two people. I really enjoyed the food here and can't wait to come back.

Revisited again. Excellent service continues, and they are getting busier! On our last visit, the place was packed. Got the Podi Idly this time around - amazing!

Vegetable Jalfrezi

The food here is exceptional especially the dosas! I had a delivery order of Potato Bonda, Soya Malal Tikka, Masala Dosa, South Indian Thali, Vegetable Jalfrezi, Okra Masala and Rajma. The standout was the Masala Dosa, a thin crispy crepe made of rice and lentils stuffed with spiced potatoes and onions...perfect! All other dishes were outstanding, too...flavorful with different carefully prepared dipping sauces. The Potato Bonda was a perfectly fried ball of spiced potatoes with a crunchy outside and creamy delicious spiced potato mixture inside and various dipping sauces which I poured over the luscious interior. The Vegetable Jalfrezi was a tasty mixture of vegetables with mildly spiced fluffy rice on the side. The Soya Malal Tikka was a tasty, creamy meat substitute. The Okra Masala was spicy and excellent. Packing was well done. The staff are nice to deal with. I have an almond allergy, and they were very accommodating. My advice is to go before the word gets out! Certainly, it is nice to have such a fine Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. This is a vegetarian restaurant where the meat is not missed. My highest recommendation.

Paneer Tikka Masala and Mysore Dosa

I was visiting NYC and craving authentic Indian food, so I decided to try Annapurna Bhavan and it was a great experience. I ordered the paneer tikka masala which was pretty good, along with a mango lassi and salted lassi that were both really yummy and tasted authentic. The kids cheese dosa was a hit with my cousin, and the coconut chutney was spicy but super yummy. The highlight of the meal was definitely the podi idly--it was AMAZING and the absolute star of the show. I highly recommend trying the podi idly. I also tried the Mysore dosa which was tasty and spicy, and a guava alcoholic drink that was pretty good too. The workers were very kind and attentive. Overall, everything was flavorful and satisfying, and the environment felt like I was back in India.

Came here on a monday to walk in around 7pm and we were able to get a seat right away. Oddly you can't make a reservation unless it's for 3 or more. I got the dosa which was fresh and filling. I would say the staff is friendly but not so attentive when it get's busy. They stopped filling my water when larger tables came in

Miznon is always fantastic I was particularly impressed by…read morethe extremely warm, professional customer service at the times square location. Everyone from the cashier to the man behind the grill to the guy baking a fresh batch of tahini chocolate chip cookies for us were just SO kind. They even offered us a free taste of their lemonade which was incredibly refreshing. Mia and Fusy (maybe Suzy) should be acknowledge for their hospitality, professionalism, efficiency while still very warm. The steak and eggs pita was amazing as always- this and the baby roasted cauliflower are my MUST ORDERS- you will be sad you do not- but everything at Miznon is sooo good!! This mizon is very clean and speedy, but will not rush you if you stay a while!

I got the mushroom pita and the whole roasted baby cauliflower, and both were insane. Mushroom Pita: Fresh, fluffy pita bread, with roasted mushrooms in an umami-rich tahini sauce. This was mouthwateringly good, and the mushrooms also had a great, fresh texture. Baby Cauliflower: It sounds so simple but the magic is in the execution. The cauliflower is both soft and firm at the same time; it almost melts in your mouth. There's a reason that two times we went to Miznon, they had already run out. Friendly service, and a chill ambiance. They have fresh tomatoes and long green peppers as a living decor, and they will give you a cooked pepper if you like. Take them up on their offer - the pepper is delicious (and spicy if you eat the seeds).

Went to Wolf and Lamb. Few years ago my wife was there and loved it…read more Not what I experienced this time. I ordered chicken soup. One would think how hard it is to make chicken soup, put chicken in the water, add salt, bring to a boil, cook for an hour. Done. Apparently whomever cooked chicken soup that I was served did not read that memo. The soup I was served was absolutely the worst soup I have ever had in my life. It got better with next coarse, but not memorable at all considering the price. $$$.

It lacked the bold Parmesan and peppercorn flavor that usually defines it. The fries stood out in a good way. They had great crunch and texture and were easily the most consistent item on the table. The ribeye was decent but not at the level you expect for a $90 cut. The temperature came out at a proper medium and there was a noticeable char, which added some flavor. However, it tasted like it had been reheated rather than cooked fresh. The bone was not hot and the fat was not fully rendered or caramelized, which took away from the overall experience. It was not bad, but it missed the mark for the price point. Service was good, which helped the experience. But, with so many solid steakhouse options in NYC, this is not a place I would go out of my way to return to.
