Admittedly I was skeptical given the proximity to Times Square, but we were looking for an Indian spot nearby. We walked in around 7 pm on a Sunday and was able to find a spot. It did get busier while we were there. We ordered saag and Paneer Lababdar. Both were delicious and my foodie critic companion agreed. The dishes had good flavor. I ordered medium and didn't quite feel the heat. The mango lassi is okay but can skip. It's a larger space but we were still able to hear on another without problem. read more

Came here for lunch as we were looking for a spot in theater district. It was pretty quiet coming in, and we were seated right away. We started with the lasooni kebab and prawn balchao for apps. The lasooni kebab was pretty good, but we did not enjoy the prawn at all. It had a very fishy taste and seemed slightly too undercooked for our liking. For mains we shared the black pepper chicken and lamb rogan Josh with garlic naan on the side. Both curries were good. I'll be honest, I just didn't enjoy the food that much. The curries/sauces were universally lackluster across the butter chicken, chicken korma, lamb kofta etc. I'm usually the kind of person who ignores the meat and just goes straight to rice and curry, but they were all just kind of the same bland sweet flavor. The naan was good. The samosas and tandoori shrimp were bland. The achari mushroom was pretty good. Service was nice and we were able to walk in Sunday evening with plenty of space, so it was a nice spot to hang out with a big group (7 people) spontaneously. read more

For our first visit here, each choice was excellent. Better than many others we've tried worldwide. The restaurant has an elegant charm, lots of space, clean and inviting. Service was excellent but we were there at 5 pm, so only several patrons. We were starving after a full day of touring NYC, top to bottom. First time for hubby but I lived here decades ago, but still love visiting. We ordered our favorites, Delhi Ka Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, Garlic Naan, Basmati rice, topped with Saar Mango Lassi. Every dish was perfect in flavor, texture, sauce consistency, etc. We devoured everything. We complimented how much we enjoyed our meal. This restaurant masquerades as an upscale dining location with its prices and then you realize the toilet paper rolls are just sitting on top of the toilet. The food was fine, not amazing, not terrible. From our body language it was communicated that we were not here to eat a lot, and yet the server kept trying to upsell over and over, almost felt shamed for not ordering a lot of food. My friend is familiar with the cuisine and was not impressed, this is far from authentic Indian food. The restaurant was more than half empty and it still took around 20 minutes to get our food. Not once did a server ever come to refill our drinks. Not once did a server come over to ask us how we were enjoying our food. You're not even allowed to split their lunch special. With a policy like that, you should have more than one bathroom stall, and one that looks presentable at that. read more

We were able to get a table as a walk in because they were booked out for dinner for an event but we got there early enough to be seated. Perfect flavors, great naan. I haven't had Indian food too many times in my life, so I never really know what's good--but some friends brought me to Saar, and I was obsessed. The food was incredible. I was so full they practically had to roll me out. You have to try the DELHI KA BUTTER CHICKEN with BIRYANI RICE and the LAMB KOFTA CURRY. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in New York. ENJOY! Been here before after work which is how I found this place and it is my new place for authentic Indian food in the city. We started with the Samosa tasting, saag aloo, garlic naan and the TANDOORI LAMB CHOPS, Served With Mustard Potatoes And Pineapple Chutney, so flavorful! Service is good and staff is very polite. The tamarind mojitos are good with a little spice to it, had that from the happy hour menu, which I think runs to 7pm. read more

Take-away review The online ordering menu is a little confusing for the lunch option as you have a free form to order what dish you want in the options (Veg $14, non-veg/chicken $15, lamb $16 or seafood $16). The interior is beautifully decorated with open space and pops of color. The staff were very friendly when I came to pick up the order. The food was piping hot and well-packed. The lunch deal of $15 was such a steal!! It came with a good potion of meat, dal, veggie dish, rice, and a huge naan (pictured is only half of it). The naan was extremely fluffy and soft. They charged $19 for Chicken Tikka Masala but only used cheap RED-MEAT portions of Chicken instead of Chicken-Breast meat. The chicken-tikkas were not roasted/grilled before being cooked in the suace. read more

The overall vibe was relaxed; the place was busy but not too loud, and I love that they stay open late (until around 11:30 PM). Service was generally friendly, though there's definitely room for improvement in attentiveness. They have a pre-theater menu for $45 that is three courses but there is an extra charge of $7.00 if you get the lamb chops which we both did and were happy with our meal. We both had the shrimp entree which was delicious. The lamb chops were cooked nice and were flavorful. The dessert choices were unfamiliar to us but I had the chickpea pudding which I liked a lot. Service was a bit slow at times but the waiter was very helpful and attentive. The price was reasonable and it worked out well for us before going to the theater nearby. read more

Got delivery from Saar Indian Bistro for work and this satisfied my Indian food cravings. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and the Green Chili Paratha - there were fair amounts of chicken in the spicy vindaloo sauce, just how I like it! It could have been a bit less oily, but nonetheless it was good. The green chili paratha also had a good amount of chili in it and you could actually taste the flavor. We tried a few things for food we tried the chicken 65, paneer fingers, and samosas -- overall bar food rating is 3/5 but the service, drinks, cost effectiveness bumped it up some. We were invited here for a birthday celebration dinner. Upon entry, the decor is Southern Indian modern. It is elegant and clean looking. Immediately we were seated at our table which we reserved. The waiter came immediately to see if we would like to order drinks. I've decided to wait for the birthday girl to arrive. As soon as everyone arrived, we ordered drinks. I decided to try Harmony which is a non-acholic drink of lychee, lavender and sweet sour. It was light, refreshing & totally the best dinner drink. The table decided to order a few appetizers and then entrees to share for the table. Here are my highlights. Came here for brunch on a Saturday with two others. The restaurant had just opened upon our arrival, so the crowded was very limited. Two of us decided to do the three course lunch special ($30) while another decided to order from the regular menu. However, we shared everything and had leftovers afterwards. For appetizers, we got the Samosa Tasting, which consisted 2 of each: jalapeno & cheese, potato & peas, and lamb & peas. The other appetizer we had was the Saar Lamb Kebab, which I would highly recommend between the two. For entrees, I ordered the popular Delhi Ka Butter Chicken, which I enjoyed a lot. We also ordered the Tandoori Lamb Chops, which costed an extra $7 with the two or three course lunch special. I did not think this was worth it as the chops were pretty small to be paying extra. The other entree we ordered off the lunch special was the Biryani Chicken ($20). The rice for sure filled us up very quick, where we ended up taking this back as leftovers. Loved the flavoring of the dish. For dessert, we got the Gulab Jamun, which is not too sweet as we expected it to be. It is served hot as a fair warning to not burn your tongue. The other dessert was the Ras Malai. No comments as I didn't get to try it. If you're looking for a drink, I recommend getting the Masala Chai ($5). I added a pack of sugar for the added sweetness along with the chai taste. read more

Came for lunch as a group of 3 and had the $25 lunch special (appetizer, entrees and rice) as well as some items off the menu. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and spacious. The food is delicious, but pricey. We had the samosa sampler (two of each kind), lamb kebab (3 patties) and begun bharta as starters. All were tasty. Only minor complaint is that the roti chips did not really go with the bharta, I would have preferred naan, roti or another bread rather than the chip. For our entrees we ordered the lamb roganjosh, butter chicken and kosha mangsho (goat stew). All three were delicious, just a warning the goat was on the bone. We also got one order of plain naan and chili garlic naan which were perfect. We left feeling full and the food was definitely worth going back for.
