At times the service was a bit slow, but he was handling a couple different tables so no big deal. Our food came out at significantly different times which led to everyone starting and finishing at separate times, but the food was great. I've been here quite a few times and have been very pleased with service, drinks ,food and portions. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with my order a few days ago. I ordered a Greek salad and added shrimp. The waitress ask if I wanted them grilled or cocktail (cold) and I said grilled please. I received my order and the salad only had 4 small Shrimp that were cocktail shrimp flash grilled?! Sorry, but that's not grilled shrimp! Or any seasoning which you would have, if they were grilled. Plus $7 extra for shrimp with that size of salad and price you should at least get 6 shrimp. My friend got the same salad but with a good size piece of salmon. read more

The place was packed as it always is, not a problem we only waited 10 minutes for a table. The food was very good and the menu is quite varied from apps, pizzas, sushi, pasta. We sampled them all. Drinks were good and well prepared. For being so large the sound level was high but not too bad. The only negative was that several of our dinners came out 10-15 minutes late. I've been coming to Brigantine for 10 years, and it has always been one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. Because it was right before Labor Day, we called ahead to confirm whether the beach bar would be open for one last girls' beach day. We were told it would open at 12, so we arrived around 12:30 expecting it to be operating. Instead, the outside beach bar was closed, and only the inside bar was open. We set up on the beach and went inside for drinks. I explained the situation to the bartender, who was kind and apologetic, and asked her to put our drinks in plastic cups so we could take them outside. She did, but as I was leaving, I was stopped and told that drinks could not be taken outside because the beach bar was closed. The main issue was the lack of clear communication. We had specifically called to ask whether the beach bar was open, but no one explained that only the inside bar would be operating or that drinks could not be taken onto the beach. Since bringing drinks onto the beach has long been part of our experience, the misunderstanding was especially frustrating. When the manager came over, I hoped he would acknowledge the confusion. Instead, he responded sarcastically, "Well, it is called La Scala Beach Bar." When I explained that the phone response should have clearly distinguished between the inside bar and outside beach service, he said he hadn't taken the call. That only reinforced the need for employees to have consistent information. I requested a refund, which took another 10-15 minutes to process. The bartender was courteous and helpful, but the overall handling left a negative impression. La Scala could prevent similar situations by ensuring that phone staff, bartenders, and managers clearly communicate which areas are open and where drinks may be consumed. Simply saying, "The inside bar is open, but the outside beach bar is closed and drinks cannot be taken onto the beach," would have avoided the confusion. It's a shame because Brigantine is my happy place, and La Scala has been part of that experience for 10 years. Ambiance and the live music are the best things about this place, we had a fun time listening to the band with our family. It is a lively spot and is the only restaurant open later on the island. Most of the staff were hustling, but the food and drinks are mediocre and insanely overpriced. They couldn't even make a Shirley Temple; the first time it was made with seltzer water and the second time no cherries. The craziest thing was they were out of almost everything on their beer list. They only had cans that were piss warm; we had to ask for cups of ice. What kind of "bar" runs out of 1/2 their beer menu and doesn't even serve cold beer? read more

Looked for a nice place for a quick dinner in Brigantine, NJ. Found LaScalas which had some good reviews so we tried there. The restaurant looked recently remodeled with white granite countertops and tables, nice looking. Our waitress was very friendly. She took our drink order and brought them back quickly. I ordered a double gin and tonic, which is my summer drink of choice. Then ordered an app of Calamari and a Margarita pizza. The calamari was excellently prepared and delicious. The pizza was over cooked and served cold. I had one slice and that was it. Then the bill came, I was charged $21 for the drink. Wow, very disappointed. I've been coming to this location for close to 20 years, before LaScala's Beach House. When LaScala's first opened, it was fantastic. The food matched the setting, and it quickly became one of our favorite places in Brigantine. Unfortunately, after spending the last week in Brigantine and eating here several nights, I don't think this can be written off as one bad night. The location and atmosphere are still hard to beat, sitting outside right on the beach is what makes this place special, but the food simply isn't what it used to be. The mussels in red were always one of my favorite dishes. Years ago, after the mussels were gone, I would practically wipe the bowl clean with the bread because the sauce was that good. This time, the sauce was completely different and nowhere near the quality or depth of flavor I remember, and the mussels themselves were gritty. The pasta was also disappointing. On two separate nights, I found stray pieces of dried mushroom and other ingredients in pasta dishes that didn't contain them. It gave the impression that there isn't enough attention being paid in the kitchen to what is making its way onto each plate. Service has slipped as well. Nobody was outright rude, but several servers seemed disengaged and, frankly, as though they didn't particularly want to be there. That's what makes this review disappointing to write. LaScala's has maintained the appearance, the atmosphere and one of the best locations in Brigantine, but it feels like the restaurant has started resting on those strengths rather than maintaining the food and service standards that made it so good in the first place. I hope they tighten things up, because this was once an extremely good restaurant and one I genuinely looked forward to visiting. The location is still there. The potential is still there. The food and service need to catch back up. read more

I wanted to love it because it gives very tropical/fun vibes. However, we were sat at the picnic tables where it's a free for all with the seagulls. I got pooped on! When I asked the outdoor bartenders for something to clean myself off with, my request was met with annoyance. They handed me a pile of dry napkins. We were a party of 2. One of our meals came within a few minutes of ordering. The other took an additional 25 mins to come out!!! This just makes for a very awkward meal setting. We had to take turns watching each other eat. The excuse was a "free flow" kitchen which wasn't explained upon ordering. I don't care what kind of kitchen it is but when you go out to eat you expect to share a meal & eat together as a family, date, party, etc.. It ruined the entire experience. Thank goodness I didn't have young children with me. I watched the general chaos of the venue... food runners constantly dropping food at the wrong tables which left patrons to deliver the food to neighboring tables, people coming in & sitting at tables not knowing that they had to wait in the long line at the hostess stand, entrees coming out before apps & so on... Cool vibes, weirdly great live music, dog friendly.... much to love. In a weekend spent on the deck of a beach house, it takes a lot for us to venture away from comfy paradise. But a beach bar? Where we can bring the pup? And get drinks and food? Okay fine you convinced me. We put our name down for a table (on a Saturday night for a table for 5 we were looking at an hour and a half +) and made our way to the beach patio for some drinks. After a round of spicy margaritas I took in the crowd. Literally all ages. Kids dancing to the band, adults vibing with their families, 20 somethings there with friends. A spot for all. After a bit of a wait we got a great spot and put an order in for A LOT of food: -LaScala Fries (crab meat and bacon) -Truffle Fries - a classic Caesar salad & a crab Caesar -one of the pizzas -a shrimp dish -a maki roll Lots of good food and it actually was pretty decent for a spot so crazy busy. Just off the afternoon vibe is so cool. Amazing views or the beach and ocean. Waitress was Adriana and she was great!! Always checking and making sure our waters were full on a hot summer afternoon. Wife started with frozen espresso martini and she loved it. Apps meatballs which were excellent! LaSclala Fries with bacon, crabmeat. Also very good. SPICY TUNA TARTARE was fresh and spicy. I was there for dinner earlier this evening and had a negative experience. I was seated with my family outside. One of the waitresses was walking behind where I was sitting and dropped the sauce she was carrying and when it hit the ground it splattered and some got on the back of the white tank top I was wearing. This waitress said nothing to me after it had happened. She walked back my way and clearly saw my husband trying to clean off what was on my back to save the top and STILL said nothing, not even an apology. I'm extremely disappointed in this experience. Please teach your staff how to be respectful and own up to their mistakes. read more

My girlfriend and I are both 24 years old. We had dinner, each had five drinks, paid our $200+ bill, and stayed at our table to enjoy the live band. Out of nowhere, security came over, asked for our IDs, claimed my girlfriend's valid ID was fake, and immediately kicked us out. If they truly believed her ID was fake, it should have been checked before serving us multiple alcoholic drinks, not after taking our money. It took so long they ended up bringing TWO dishes out because of a complete and utter disaster management is. Server disappeared throughout the night and couldn't get a class of water or my food. Valet parking was nuts, the line to put our names in for a table with an outdoor hostess was long and slow. This place reminds me of Bar A but on steroids and fancier. We got a drink at the inside bar since the outdoor bar was too crowded & rowdy. Service was slow and inattentive at the inside bar. The pineapple crush was so sweet. We moved outside when the band started and eventually got seated at our table. Tried the tuscan wings, the pickle spears and a pizza. The pickle spears were really good. The tuscan wings sucked - dry / overcooked. The vodka meat lovers pizza was average - about what you'd expect from a joint like this. Our server was really good though - one major plus from the evening. The band was pretty terrible. Each set got gradually worse and shorter. I think they were on break more than they played. All in all, this is a great spot for people watching and overpriced food and sugary drinks. I feel bad for the residents who own beach houses in this neighborhood - its way too crowded of a place and loud. I would hate to have this place near my beach home. read more

This place has ALL of the beach vibes. They usually have a good band playing on the weekends and it can get crowded here but it's a fun place to be on the beach. Drinks can get pricey (17 dollar cocktails) but expecting cheap well- drinks in a place with multiple bars, (outside and inside) beautiful views and live music isn't realistic so come knowing you'll be paying for all of that. I've been here a couple of times, but this time we ordered a panini, cheesesteak egg-rolls, caesar salad and truffle fries. We ordered a variety of cocktails and a couple with floaters (5 dollars extra). The food was good! Especially the truffle fries! Panini included prosciutto and tasted fresh. The only reason I am providing anything above a 1 star rating, is because the food was amazing. The whipped ricotta is a MUST. My entree was angel hair with crab meat and red sauce. It came out piping hot and was filling and delicious. The restaurant was loud and crowded for a Friday night, we had to wait to be seated but there is an outside bar with live music which helped pass the time. The real issue came at the end of the night. We migrated to the bar and ordered drinks with one of the bartenders. She ended up clocking out, which closed out our tab automatically adding gratuity WITHOUT informing our group. The remaining bartenders were extremely rude when we asked questions. It escalated to a "Manager" getting involved. His name was Alex, he was completely unprofessional, dropping swear words at myself and those in my party, gave us attitude for requesting a refund for incorrect charges on our pay check and then when we finally wrapped everything up walked over to a group of employees by the door talking crap about our group as we walked past to leave. If you want to tack on extra fees, they should be clearly spelled out or at the very least communicated to all patrons. If your bartenders clock out at the end of a shift they should notify all of their parties, not arbitrarily charge fees on their own. Safe to say, we will not be returning to LaScala's. read more

First time I dined at this spot since they purchased it and gave it a total makeover. Huge improvement in look and feel, and increase in seats. This really matters at a shore spot. Nicely done. Jumping atmosphere. Good music. Server Savannah was attentive and not intrusive. We ordered several apps to share: Caesar salad, ricotta jar, meatballs, and margarita pizza. What they were able to do with this space is absolutely Outstanding!! Bravo!! The outside is STUNNING. Comfy furniture, huge bar, lots of seating right in the sand and a large stage. The upgrade was much needed and I'd say they aced it. The inside is also spectacular with the huge bar and omg individual restrooms that were so sparkly clean! Our server Kylie was friendly and efficient. She was super and explained the menu to us. We appreciated she told us portions were large - we were there for lunch and ended up splitting two things and still took leftovers home. The lascala fries were out of control delicious. Crispy fries covered in yummy cheese sauce, bacon, peppers and so much fresh crab!! It would be the perfect appetizer for 4-6 people easily. It was seriously so good we definitely recommend this as a must have if you like fries!! We then had the lascalas favorite panini which was fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula and olive oil. It comes with prosciutto but we asked them to remove. It was HUGE. My goodness was it large. It comes with fries but we were able to substitute for a salad since we already got the lascala fries appetizer. It was delicious - basically a whole loaf of bread. The bartenders were also awesome and made me a delicious non alcoholic margarita. My mom enjoyed her house margarita. We can't wait to come back!! read more

Spending the day at the beach. Walked in the make a reservation for later that day for about 20 ppl (they don't take reservations) there were two young girls at the front desk that were so nice and sweet and accommodating. However, when I asked to use the restroom (clearly not homeless) the older woman (who I believe was a manager) she had short blondish grey hair was so incredibly rude and condescending. Would not let me use the bathroom unless I bought food to go. Such a terrible introduction. I did buy fries. Used the restroom and proceeded to spend money there the rest of the day. However, if there was any other option at the point I wouldn't have gone back because she was so nasty. As the day went on everyone else working there was amazing. The food amazing. The space amazing. Having that woman at reception is not the best introduction to such a great place. read more

We ate here Fourth of July. We were seated by a friendly hostess and given a high chair right away. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. The live music was so enjoyable and the food was AMAZING. The seafood fra diavolo was incredible. The chicken parmigiana pizza was crisp and delicious. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was among the best Brussels I've had- a smoky flavor that was not overcome by the bacon. While I loved eating inside the modern beachy restaurant, I hope to return and eat outside on the beach. read more
