Sand House Kitchen is one of those spots where the view alone makes you want to linger a little longer, and the food has the potential to match it. Sitting directly in front of the Ocean City surf beach, it really does feel like true beachfront dining, with wide open views of the sand and water from the deck and windows. When we arrived in the early afternoon we had our pick of seats, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy the quieter end of the island. Our server was kind, got our order in right away, and the food came out fairly quickly from the open kitchen. My crab avocado wrap was the star of the meal, packed with fresh‑tasting crab meat and creamy avocado, and the wrap itself worked really well alongside a generous portion of crispy waffle fries. My wife's avocado toast had good flavor, but the bread it was served on was so tough that even cutting it with a knife was more work than it should have been. A bit of a letdown was that several menu items we were excited to try weren't available that day due to ingredient shortages. For a place in such a great location, that makes the experience feel a little incomplete. That said, the overall vibe is relaxed and beachy, and you really cannot beat the ocean views. Sand House Kitchen is the kind of place I'm rooting for. With a little more consistency in the kitchen and better menu availability, it could easily turn into a five‑star, must‑visit brunch and lunch spot on this stretch of Ocean City's beach. read more

So let's start saying cute location, attentive service. however...the food was over priced and not well seasoned. The fruit on the French toast was not fresh but looked from frozen. For a beach restaurant they lack basic knowledge, salt shaker was clumpy and rusty( maybe grinders instead) Let's talk birds! We watched a young mom get attacked by sea gulls breaking her glass and swooping her plate. The woman took the situation with grace but was not comped for her food when she had to leave abuptly with her baby. The birds situation needs corrected. I sat with my napkin over my food as the sea gulls continued to swarm. ( maybe some netting or some other solution) The ramp to the restaurant was slippery after the rain, I would hate to see someone fall. Beautiful location right on the beach! Upon looking at the menu, the breakfast was very overpriced for the amount of food you get. The pancakes were good and the eggs and sausage were also good but nothing special for the price. Server was very attentive and kind! Was a big fan of this place for many years under different name. Since rebuilt, every time I've attempted to eat here it's always unorganized with ridiculous waiting. Not due to being overcrowded it's just mismanaged. I've given it a few tries in case it was just a fluke off day but always unorganized and frustrating. read more

There is nothing like sitting outside on a beautiful sunny day enjoying a delicious breakfast. This was my first time at sand kitchen and it won't be my last. They are opened Memorial Day weekend till the middle of September. The place itself is small basically a shack with picnic benches under the cover then table after table on the sand leading to the ocean. Our server was friendly, didn't rush as along and gave us time to enjoy our meal. The French toast was a nice size. 3 large pieces of brioche bread with some fresh fruit. The breakfast quesadilla was loaded with egg, cheese, bacon, peppers and onion. With a side of guacamole which was amazing and a side of tomato and onion with cilantro. At first I felt the prices were a bit too high but the portions evened out the cost. Plus it's the summer at the shore on the beach of course things cost more. read more

We were very disappointed in our experience on Labor Day. I enjoyed my brunch but it took over 1 3/4 hours to get it and the bill with tip for three of us was over $70. We checked in at 10:56 am to a cheerful hostess and were told that there would be a 40 minute wait, not unreasonable on this day. At the 50-minute mark there were still 4 parties ahead of us and that was because at least 5 parties had already left and didn't have their names taken off the list. We were told that there was a pause in seating to change the kitchen over to include lunch along with their breakfast menu. We would be seated "soon." (As a side note, we knew this because several weeks prior, on a Sunday morning, we were told at our 11:15 arrival that there was a 45-minute wait but they pause for this "turnover" and really couldn't know what the real wait time would be. So, we decided to go elsewhere.) At 12:05 pm we were seated. Our gracious waitress apologized for the wait and got our orders for coffees, request for water and breakfast order. My son asked if he could get a "classic Eggs Benedict" and the waitress said "absolutely!" We asked for ojs but, sorry, the juice machine is broken, no juices at all. I got up at 12:25 pm to ask for our waters because we had been there for over an hour and a half and we'd like our coffees, too. The table of four next to us saw this and got up and left. (We should have left, too, but didn't.) (Another side note: while we were waiting for our table there was a party who ordered take-out "appetizers" - iced coffees and a side of home fries; and got those within ten minutes. That could have been the move - order take-out and sit at the tables on the sand beachside.) When our order came they had run out of silverware and gave us those packets of flimsy plastic ware. You can't easily cut a cooked shrimp with the fork bending 90 degrees to the side. This was not ok. My son's did not get a classic Eggs Benedict. There were tomato slices but not ham nor Canadian Bacon. My seafood omelette was delicious. My husband had an average BEC sandwich. We left at 1:10 pm. I would have preferred to tell all this to the restaurant manager or owner. I am not one to write reviews, but I think that potential diners should know that there are definitely problems that need to be worked out. And, while their merchandise is cute and colorful, I would never want to advertise this place at this point. We had been to the old Sand House Kitchen many times, but was extremely disappointed about this experience. I've tried to eat at Sand House Kitchen twice now and unfortunately haven't had a good experience either time. The first visit was right after they reopened--I was told the wait for a table for two at breakfast would be about 30 minutes, but I decided to come back another time since it was so busy. The second time, it was around 10am on another morning and was told the wait would be 15-20 minutes. Totally reasonable. But after 50 minutes (and watching multiple parties of two who arrived after us get seated), we gave up. As we were walking away, our name was finally called, so I know we weren't forgotten--it was just a messy system. I don't mind waiting if that's what it takes, but just be honest upfront. Tell me it'll be 45-50 minutes and I can decide if I want to stay. The hostess was clearly overwhelmed, juggling everything by herself with pen and paper, and it made the whole process frustrating. I really wanted to love this place--I'm a year-round OC resident and was excited for the reopening--but after two failed attempts, I don't think I'll be back. read more

This small little open air restaurant is absolutely delicious. The food was amazing and all fresh ingredients. Good variety of menu. Service was a tad slow but didn't bother us too much. Beautiful location right on the beach and trendy seating with surfboard tables. The seagulls are still present but not to disruptive. Being on the shore most people know to not leave food out for them to get. I had the lobster eggs Benedict and it tasty very good and decent lobster portion. Having to walk by there trash and garbage area to reach the sand house was disgusting! The foul smell was horrible to say the least. The food was bottom of line . Prices ? I can remember when this place was a hot dog shack that was only accessible via the beach. We have a house right down the road and I was PUMPED to see this place get a revival by the same team that owns Drip&Scoop, Dead End, etc. PROS: - ATMOSPHERE: this place has a great spot right on North beach with plenty of Adirondack chairs out front where you can sip coffee in the morning or eat lunch. The building itself is kind of a cool old beach shack that they have revitalized with some Island Vibes! - FOOD: definitely a great menu with plenty of seafood. I would be surprised if they don't have something you want to eat (breakfast, lunch, brunch) - COFFEE: its not fancy but they have the best black coffee I have found North of the Starbucks on Asbury Avenue. Definitely diner style and really good CONS: - PRICE: it is not cheap. we got french toast, a breakfast sandwich, coffees and juice for a total price of over $50 including tip. I am happy to pay that but that is because I am supporting a local restaurant in my neighborhood. Other's might hesitate. - SERVICE; we have eaten here twice and the service was lacking both times. They were ok for maybe 9 or 10 but for $17 I expected a real good taco. Wife got the Mahi Tacos. Her fish was dry. $19. Im not cheap but I expect more when paying top dollar. Its a cool little place on the beach so we have been wanting to try it a while. None of the food I could see coming out looked too impressive. Walking by trash...disgusting. No bathroom. Today is August 16, 2024. The Sand House Kitchen is NOT open and does not appear to be ready to open since it is under construction. The building has been elevated and placed on pilings. However, it does not appear that any further work has been performed to ready it for serving food. It's a shame because my wife and I have eaten both breakfast and lunch there on past visits to Ocean City. Although I searched on line, I was unable to find any information on when or if the Sand House Kitchen will reopen. The Sand House Kitchen website does not mention they are closed and gives one the impression they are open for business. They are not open for business. read more

This place has a lot of potential but unfortunately the kitchen is lacking in the execution of the dishes. The lobster avocado toast sounds great but is bland and soggy. The seafood Cobb salad lacks seasoning and the lobster is bland. The dirty fries were good but I would have liked more crab and seasoning on them. As other Yelpers have said there is NO BATHROOM on site and the closest is probably 3 blocks away. In addition, you have to be careful of the seagulls attacking your food. Overall, I found Sand House disappointing and would not go back until they make major changes in the kitchen and get a bathroom on location. read more

THERE IS NO RESTROOM AT THIS PLACE!!!! Firstly, we walked by a huge pile and dumpster full of stinky trash. Secondly, the servers knew basically nothing about their menu. Thirdly, our overpriced breakfast was $90 for 3 people. Their specialty is Hawaiian sliders and they were out of them. Much to our surprise the fire damaged North End Beach Grille was Sold. The New Sand House Kitchen is open for business!! Right Now, this is the best kept secret in the OC breakfast and lunch scene. My wife and I have been there twice for breakfast away from the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk. Picture perfect scenery to have a delicious meal right on the beach. The veggie omelette was excellent. Nice size and packed with spinach, peppers, onions, and tomatoes. My wife enjoyed her breakfast sausage bagel sandwich. Both were served with home fries and toast(omelette). We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day! This time we went with the Carbs. She got French Toast topped with Berries and I went with the Blueberry Pancakes. Excellent on both accounts! I was sorry to see the North End go, but sometimes change is Good! Very Good! read more

Sand house kitchen is a great addition to this spot. It's MUCH MUCH better than the last place, and being right on the beach is a huge help. Yes, they are having some growing pains BUT it's the summer of COVID and they are a new outfit here. We love right down the street and are happy they are operating! My family came to the Sand House Kitchen after we saw it on Instagram. We live on the southern end of the island but ventured up to the northern end for a change of scenery. The restaurant is a true hole in the wall but it is worth venturing out of the normal restaurant areas. Since the restaurant sits right on the sand, you truly are at the only beach restaurant in OC. There isn't an ocean view but the walk up to the beach itself takes all of one minute. The food is great and the menu is pretty big for being such a small restaurant. There aren't a ton of tables but we had no problem getting one for lunch on the Tuesday after LDW. There are lots of umbrellas and also an indoor/outdoor seating arrangement if you are more comfortable with that. read more

All came out with chips and they instead brought sides of fries and charged us more than the typical up charge. A few in our group order an item with avocado. We were eating at 7:45a on Saturday. The food was amazing. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Presentation was beautiful! Service was so friendly, funny, and genuinely enjoyable. Potatoes were not cooked exactly how we like them. We enjoy crunchy potatoes with a lot of color. The menu has classic items but also some interesting items. Coconut pineapple French toast but very little coconut flavor and very little pineapple. I had Hawaiian bowl. I'm pretty sure you can't serve people with waitress service, at tables (be they inside or outside) and not have bathroom facilities. This is not a take out only establishment, which of course doesn't have to provide bathrooms. Not sure how such an incredibly expensive, unimpressive food establishment like this will survive.
