When I travel to the Jersey Shore, I don't know what I look forward to more: the beach or visiting Lasolas. I could easily hit Lasolas for all 3 meals: porkroll, egg, & cheese for breakfast, pizza or sub for lunch, and then order of one of their entrees for dinner. Having spent many summers in beach towns on Cape Cod, I wasn't expecting much from the local sandwich shop when I first went to Lasolas, but I was blown away. The quality of the product is great, from the Boars Head meats to the roast beef that they roast in store. The locally baked breads are the perfect vehicle to get the custom made sandwiches into my mouth. Lasolas has grown the past few years, but always for the better. They are truly a family owned business that is making the Shore better. read more

We have spent a ton of money at this place over the last 10+ years. Last week - for the 4th or 5th time in a week - we stopped in for food for dinner including a bag of frozen shrimp. We got back to the house to prepare dinner for friends and family and when we defrosted the shrimp they stunk, but despite this I tasted one to make sure. They were BAD! So we put shrimp back in bag, in freezer, with plan to return them. Yesterday we brought them back. The place was packed and my wife called a guy who looked like the manager to the side - rather than tell him in front of 15+ people - and told him the story. He snapped, 'That's impossible,' and proceeded to condescendingly explain to her the process by which this rotten shrimp goes from the nets to his display case. My wife explained that we had better things to do than to disrupt our dinner and make an extra trip back to tell him he sold us putrid shrimp. Then he weighed the bag against one of the other bags he had! Customer service at it's worst! He dismissively told one of the other people working there to 'give her her money back,' without the courtesy of looking at my wife. Amazing attitude to have in a business where these things happen. Makes you wonder... I'm sure this big shot doesn't care, but we will be spending our money anyplace but at Lasola's from now on. read more

My favorite deli on planet earth. I love this place--not only because it's by my favorite place (the beach), but because they make the best sandwiches and have a fantastic assortment of other foods (breakfast, lunch & dinner). I've read other reviews that say that sometimes people are rude there. We'll I've been here for two weeks now and have been here Atleast half dozen times and everyone has been super nice. Not so in other years. The sandwiches and take out food is great., so is the butcher dept. it's so great to have them here. You can get anything you need there , and all the best name brand items. I have to give Mad Props to Lasolas. For years my parents had a beach house in Chadwick Beach (where Lasolas technically was) and Johnny Lasola used to give us a discount, since we went there so often. Like, literally every day during the summer. Their sandwiches were the BOMBDIGGITY. Fo realzies. However, Johnny was super moody, and I could totally understand how people could be unhappy with the service. Alas, this place is now CLOSED! The sandwiches are good. The selection of pre made food is great. But the customer service and guys who work behind the deli counter are lacking. I don't know if they're dumb or just don't care but they regularly get simple orders wrong and act as if they have better things to do when I place my order. A manager needs to show them how to work in the service industry, the high school girls who work at Normandy sandwich shop provide better service. read more

Called yesterday to order 6 sandwiches and when was finished the order was told it will be 90 minutes. I called back 2 minutes later to cancel and tell them its too long and my family has to go out. The women that answered the phone just hung up on me. I will never order food from them ever again. 95% of the time that I have ordered they are rood and nasty. If you call in your breakfast order and a man answers, hang up and try later. It may be the owner who seems to want the place to go out of business by being as disrespectful to customers as is humanly possible. Try to avoid him if you must shop here because the food, deli and vegetables are all pretty good. This place has been a long time shore favorite for locals and renters but it may have been going too long for the owner who seem bent on encouraging customers to look elsewhere. A little on the expensive side but every time i am down the shore i typically get a breakfast sandwich here and then come back later on for a nice big sub.. The sandwiches are huge so i guess the price kind of explains itself, plus there arent many places in the lavalette/ortley area that have quality food and meat so i guess they can bump up everything a few dollars.. they also have some pretty fresh meats to cook up or grill for dinner or bbq If youre in the mood, the fresh baked crumb cake early in the morning is amazing read more

Lasolas took over Check Rite off 35N. It is much bigger than the previous spot across from the Wawa. Good selection, decent prices and a friendly staff. The FAM and I were at the Shore this summer and Lasolas was a short walk from Normandy Beach and had everything we needed for those items we ran out of at the Beach House. read more

My husband is a contractor in the area and has always complained about the inconsistencies of this place. When it's not in season the bread is stale. When it's summer the sandwiches are good. Today, however; was the breaking point. He was charged 50 cents for a small souflee cup of Russian filled a quarter of the way up. Are you kidding? and this was only because they never put enough on. This place has always been overpriced but nickel and diming it's local repeat customers is an all time low and no way to run a business. Over the course of the summer they were there almost every day during the week. If this is the way they want to do business he will go to wawa instead and spend half the money. I'm so disappointed! I originally liked going to this market because I like to support local and it has a lil bit of everything. I bought a bag of "fresh" frozen shrimp to have with company. When I got it Home and followed the directions to thaw, they started to smell! My husband was brave enough to try one and definitively concluded the shrimp were bad. I put them in the freezer to bring back the next day. I politely called a man who I believe to be a manager or owner to the side because the store was crowded. I didn't want to make a big deal because these things can happen.He was so incredibly rude to me I was speechless for about only 3 seconds! I told him to try the shrimp if he thought it was so "absolutely impossible " that the shrimp were spoiled. He proceeded to weigh them as if I would go the the trouble of eating some of the shrimp and try to return the rest! Ha! REALLY?! yes, I wanted to ruin my dinner and make my house stink and go all the way back there the next day on my vacation just for the fun of it! I was shaking and upset when I left the store and proceeded to spend lots of money at a nearby market instead. Lasolas will never get my business again! read more

Just went here this past Sat. My neighbor , older guy invited me to go down shore with bunch of people. Course I was the baby there, & the time they went was past my beach time, 2:30pm. Regardless, we hung at beach til 5pm..got chilly so we walked to this deli near by .Let me say, got nice variety of things. They had general store, common goods , then they deli was gourmet, from fried rice balls to wraps, to hoagies & sandwiches. Only reason they got one less star, I was looking in cookie case, there was fly in there-going to town....Ewppph..no one noticed it. read more

I visit Normandy Beach about six times per year and each time I cross the bridge I start to salivate thinking about what I'm going to grab at Lasolas. Sure, ordering can be a pain, and the staff can sometimes be a bit short with you, but that's Jersey charm right there. The food is excellent. One of the few places I can find pinwheel sausage! They also sell a marinated Turkey London Broil that is out of this world. I haven't gotten anything from there that I didn't find delicious whether it be from the meat case or the deli counter. You haters are crazy and I don't think you realize how good you have it up north. Half of the items in that store do no exists south of you! I'm a customer for life. read more

Best meat department on the Island. Get the NY strip steaks and the marinated chicken breasts. This is the place to go to if you're planning a barbecue. The cold cuts and deli sandwiches are awesome. Staff is hot and cold - like their subs. Skip the produce and go to Big Ed's produce near the corner of Ortley Ave and Rt 35 North in Lavalette..... Sandwiches are great and reasonable. Deli salads are good looking, but the taste doesn't match the looks. Sort of like a hot girl with no brain. Salads are very overpriced. I went to buy a few sandwiches this morning for company I was having later. I was basically the only customer there at the time, so they were not busy. The person working behind the counter (who I found out later was the owner) was one of the nastiest people I've ever come across. He had zero personality and he appeared to be completely annoyed as I gave him my order. I turned to my friend as if to say can you believe this! I also asked him if he could cut the sandwiches into 4 pieces, and he replied he could not do that! As he took the order, he seemed more and more irritated (why I do not know because I didn't ask for anything different or difficult). When I asked for half pounds of the salads, his response was "you know, that's only half the container" in a nasty tone! I'm more upset with myself that I stayed there after being treated like this, instead of telling him to shove the sandwiches up his ass! I can tell you I will never walk into that establishment again, and after reading the reviews, it seems like a lot of people feel the same way! Maybe this explains why I was the only customer there. I know several of my neighbors have stopped going there as well, due to the lack of courtesy to good paying customers. It's Normandy sandwiches from here on in or anywhere for that matter! I'm a local who every year waits for Lasolas Market to open. I love to be able to go in the morning and select items for dinner in the evening. However, that being said, they really need to learn some people skills! Yes, they are busy, and yes, it can be stressful for the staff, but really folks, a little customer service and organization will serve you well. For instance, establish a designated "pick-up" area for call-in orders and don't abuse the customers who called in their orders and don't expect to wait in the crowd to pick it up - defeats the purpose of call ahead. Ordered three pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches. Told the guy three times to make the pork roll extra crispy. Brought it back to the house only to find pork roll on all three sandwiches were pink -- almost raw! We had to take the sandwiches appart and cook the pork roll ourselves. My family has been going to this market for over 15years. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. The meat is delicious. Great for the few items you forget when you do your big grocery shop off the island. Crumb buns and donuts in the bakery never disappoint. Delicious pizzas made on site as well as all their prepared foods in the deli counter. read more

Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich late at night as they were closing, they gave me a burnt chicken breast my dog would NOT eat. I did not say anything and decided to give them a try the next day I ordered a lunch meat sandwich and dessert. When I got home my dessert was full of mold! I really wanted dessert, so I walked back to the store and showed the cashier who was horrified and pointed the owner out to me, I very quietly and nicely showed the owner and asked for a replacement, never mentioning the burnt chicken breast the prior evening. She got in my face and started yelling at me saying how she has been ripped off before? I replied, huh, I don't want anything but a freaking replacement but now that you're being so nasty and accusing me of trying to rip you off when you can plainly see all the mold on my dessert, here is my slip, I just ordered this 30 minutes ago, and, my dinner last night was burnt to a crisp, not editable. She immediately called out to her sons behind the counter MOCKING me, said this women said you gave her a burnt chicken breast, but never bothered to bring it back last night, they laughed at me! I explained they were closing and I understand that I probably got what they had left over, no big deal just replace my dessert. She was extremely angry and literally stared me down as she threw in a new dessert. I was still trying to explain that I used to own a restaurant and would like to know if my pre-packaged desserts were moldy and she should be thanking me for bringing this to her attention. I have never experienced this type of customer service/treatment in my life. I left and ate my dessert which was very good. Lasolas Market used to be good, but their prices are crazy outrageous, and their food has gone way downhill. Be aware when ordering that EVERYTHING IS EXTRA, if you order an omelette, it comes with nothing unless it's posted on the board and is a special saying what it comes with. Everything is a la cartel and eggs with toast and bacon and hash browns will end up costing you $15.00! Stay away, they don't deserve business with such nasty customer service like that. read more

I don't know. Reading the reviews already posted where the writer found the staff unfriendly, I'm not seeing it. I always find the staff of this family run deli friendly,. Welcoming. Efficient. This place can pack them in on a busy Jersey shore summer weekend yet somehow the folks behind the deli counter can tame the chaos of everyone wanting everything in a New York minute and get everyone in and out quickly. Besides having great selections of sandwiches, salads, Italian main and side dishes, there's fresh produce, fresh baked goods, and a large selection of fresh meats and sausages. When it's five deep at the deli counter, and all you want to do is get in, get what you want and get back to the beach, I don't need someone chatting it up behind the counter. I need what I ordered to come out correctly, fresh, and fast. I've been to Lasolas during the summer season as well as after the summer season. After the rush of summer is done and we aren't five deep at the counter, I do take the time to chat up the staff. And they do chat back. The focus is on the food in this deli not on the personality of the staff. Especially on a beautiful summer day when you'd rather be on the beach then standing on line at the deli. read more
