I got everything I ever asked for here in a jewelry visit: quick, quality, and friendly service that was cheaper than cheap and serviced w/ a smile. My experience at Lastovica Fine Jewelers was nothing short of exceptional. My Movado watch band clasp would not clip and secure itself, so I haven't been able to wear it for a while now, it looked to be a delicate issue w/ the clasp alignment. I purchased it at Macy's a year ago so I went back there for help, the employee said they would have to ship it to their jeweler in California and I would have to pay the costs. WTF? I'm sorry, but that just didn't sound appealing to me. Lucky she recommended Lastovica Jewelers, and said a lot of customers have been happy with their service. Word-of-mouth advertising at its best, and it's a local business - - sounds good to me! I drop in close to 5pm on a Friday to find both owners there (The Lastovica Brothers) and explained my issue, one of them jumped right in w/ his jeweler hat on and took my watch and started troubleshooting the clasp issue. I browsed the watch selection and asked if they had any additional inventories to show off - - sure enough the other brother said: "we have a Presidential Rolex we can show you". Sounds enticing, let's check it out. Before he could break out that Presidential Rolex the other brother pops back in and says he's done fixing the clasp, literally faster than an Indy Pit Crew. I tried it on and it snapped on tight, just like new, I was extremely pleased. I asked for the bill and he responded: "don't worry about it, but just remember us the next time you're shopping for jewelry". Awesome, it doesn't get any better than that! Here comes that Presidential Rolex, it's 18 carat gold and looks immaculate. I told them I wasn't a gold-watch-type-of-guy but I soon realized that I spoke too soon because this watch was immaculate. The color and finish was polished to perfection, not too gaudy or shiny, just flawless. It's 18 carat gold and he tells me, "it's only twelve-ninety-nine". I'm like "wow, $1299?!?". "No, $12,999", he says. Yikes! They said a new one sells for $25K, and it's the same model of watch that President Kennedy wore when he was in office. I bet Norma Jean knows........ Bottom line is the Lastovica Brothers rock! They're personable, friendly, efficient, and provide quality customer service. It's how business used to be done, establishing r-ships with customers and providing quality products and services as opposed trying to maximize every buck you can get. The worst unilaterally. I was new to the area and thought Lastovica was my only option. So I returned after my first extremely off-putting and noticeably overpriced first encounter that immediately morphed into heartbreaking loss. Then second, third, were only off-putting and extremely overpriced. The 4th visit was to redo 3rd visit being a simple repair. The 1st repair fell off my wrist in the car before I got home. It was a silver bracelet of my great grandmothers that came with a whole backstory. The guy couldn't have cared less and I didn't even have an have an ask of him.I just wanted him to know. He accused me of not closing the clasp properly. I did find the piece months later thank goodness. When I went back to him and asked him if he could put a safety chain on it he replied condescendingly dismissing my request as a resolution and did no offer a resolution at all. I didn't expect anything from the guy, I found the bracelet, I wasn't asking for anything free. That same visit I left this sterling silver station necklace that had broken. Again this was a very overpriced repair but I did it anyway and went home and groused about it. Immediately after this repair I found it on the floor in my hallway after I had spent the afternoon polishing and cleaning my jewelry collection. I didn't go skydiving or rock climbing horseback riding, bobsledding. So because of the shoddy repair of the second piece of jewelry I became suspicious and I took a refrigerator magnet and put it on the necklace and sure enough, the jeweler replaced my sterling clasp with silver plate. If this jeweler was willing to cheat me over a very nominal difference in his profit between a small sterling lobster claw clasp and one in sliver plate, God forbid some unfortunate soul would take an unserialized diamond ring to him for a repair. Don't do it, there ARE other very competent jewelers in Temple who will treat you like valued customer and not like you're a homeless person who wandered in trying to use the restroom. I almost forgot. What prompted me to revisit this unpleasantness a year after the fact? The necklace he repaired twice and cheated me broke today while I was washing my hai. The chain is just really cheap and thin. I had the necklace for 10 or 12 years before it needed a repair and since he's put his hands on it it's needed three. Not a good look. read more

I took 3 necklaces to be repaired, it took about 3 weeks- which I was told about upfront. I'm very satisfied with the repair and label of service. The gentleman that checked me out took time to explain how best to take care of the jewelry so I wouldn't put so much wear and tear on it. It has taken me awhile to leave a review for the pendant they fixed for me but, I wanted to be less emotional about it. The customer service is lacking to say the least and the shady business practices are appalling. To take advantage of someone's emotional attachment to their jewelry to gain as much money as you can from the customer is just terrible. I had a pendant fixed,that took 5 weeks to get fixed and when they called me to pick it up they said, it will be $85.00 for the repair. Did they bother to call me ahead of time to get approval...NO! When I asked about them calling for approval for the money they said you didn't ask us to call you and I said yes I did....and they have you by the balls bc if you dont pay then they keep your jewelry. So, I paid the money and will not ever return to them again or ever suggest them to friends or family. Shameful. read more

I recently took a gold cross set with sapphires and diamonds to be repaired. The little gold piece that connects it to the chain had broken.I have worn this cross around my neck for around thirty years. Without it, I was not comfortable. Fortunately, I was able to speak with Johnny Lastovica. He said that he works on the jewelry and explained that he had a backlog to do ahead of me and It was going to take four to five weeks for me to get the cross back, but he would repair it and clean it. I didn't hesitate for an instant. A very dear friend of mine. Who has since passed away, made me promise to always go there if I had a jewelry issue of any kind. I always keep my promises, Don Marshall. And he was right, they have a lovely store and they are very kind and sincere. I have heard some people say they are expensive. Well, I think their prices are quite in line with their competitors. We are not talking about Walmart. They deal in "fine" jewelry. They have very experienced staff there to help you with anything you need. You get what you pay for! I was very impressed with the service and the staff. Awful awful awful. I just got home from having another jeweler FINALLY fix what this gentleman ruined. It all started off just fine: my fiance walks in and wants to make the biggest purchase of his life so far. They talk. They look at diamonds. He's treated handsomely. Fiance is so grateful for all the help during the purchase that he stops by to say hello and bring a gift. I say "yes". All is merry. Until, we decide we would like the two wedding bands we inherited to be added on either side of the original ring. "No problem" he says, even though he is visibly disappointed that we won't be buying wedding bands from him. He says, fine. He asks what size. We say 9 (yes, I have fat fingers). We go off on our merry way. Two weeks go by and we go to pick up the ring. It's the wrong size and the whole thing is off center. The diamond bands aren't lined up. We say that its the wrong size. They balk and say that it is. I try to put it on my hand. No go. They want to charge us for having to size it again. We say you have to be kidding. He relents and says that he will do it but we have to pay for the additional cost of the gold. We say fine. Two more weeks go by. I get the ring back and it looks like a HOT MESS. I don't know what to say. Fiance is beyond embarrassed. I'm beside myself and saddened that these antique rings fell in the face of this hack job. It took another jeweler in Virginia two weeks and over $900 to fix this guy's work. We had to pay for all three rings to be reshanked after the platinum on one band LITERALLY BROKE in two. He is testy, not detail oriented, and will try to make excuses for his poor workmanship. The only reason he's still around is because he's the only game in town. read more

I have had several pieces of jewelry repair by this company and each time I have noticed that my gold pieces had a beautiful shine. But i also noticed that each piece had a different shape or form and was extremely thin. The weight was much lighter that it was when i dropped it off. the detail design of each piece was either polished or skimmed off where it was not recognizable. My piece (ring) was so thin that it split in half. I then took it back to have it bonded back together and when i got it back i noticed that the inside of my ring which was once very thick was scrapped and gutted out. I am positively sure that our gold pieces is being shaved to the point it is being collected to hand make other jewelry for customers to purchase. these people are cheating and stealing gold from our precious piece they should be exposed stopped and if anyone who have ever had anything repair there should take notice to you valuables and recognize the differences. I have bought stuff here, as there are few other options in town, but just now I went in ready to drop up to $3k on my mother's birthday present and was greeted with such snot when I said good morning that they can keep their business and eventually this attitude will drive them out of business. Dropped off my necklace to be repaired and not only did it take them 6 weeks to get it back to me. But every time I called they were rude on the phone. I stopped by to check on my necklace and they said they had called my number a week ago and didn't leave a message. Well, no wonder I didn't know to pick it up. Not only was I not greeted upon entering this dark one room store but the older white female behind the counter threw the pen at me to sign the receipt from where she was standing three feet away from the counter. Then she threw the receipt and my card back on the counter to me. No thank you, no have a nice day. I will not be going back there again. I went in to get advice on purchasing an engagement ring. I talked to Johnny, and he was very helpful, walking me through the GIA grading process and we looked at some diamonds. I left and did some research, and discovered that buying diamonds online is significantly cheaper, because online retailers don't mark their diamonds up as much. So I purchased a diamond online, and brought it in to Lastovica's to be put on a gold band. He was visibly upset and angry that I purchased the diamond elsewhere, and when I got the ring back, it honestly looked pretty bad. The setting was crooked and one of the prongs was bent out of shape. In addition to his shoddy workmanship, it was his negative attitude that bothered me the most. I would not recommend going to Lastovica's, at least not when getting a diamond ring made. read more

How awful. Incredibly unprofessional and downright rude. I took a ring in to try to sell it. After looking at it for about 5 seconds, he told me that my diamond was not real. I was in NO way trying to argue with him, I was simply curious as to how he could tell it was fake. After asking him how he could tell it wasn't real, he got a major attitude and told me that "he's been doing this for 44 years so he knows a fake diamond when he sees one." Again, I wasn't trying to argue, I was just trying to gain knowledge. He continued to be rude and treated me as if I were below him and being argumentative.
