It's kind of a small space with a limited parking lot but I like the general vibe here. Super nice folks with lots of energy. Very passionate about what they do. I think that anyone who gets take away (and many do) would miss this side of the equation. My two concerns with this visit. First, they are pretty popular and sometimes it can take a bit to get your meal. Having said that, they graciously let us know how the long the wait might be when we walked in. That's ok, I like to know what to expect so that I can make an informed decision. But although we ordered appetizers, the whole meal came at one time. Second, the food did not have as much flavor/spice as I would have expected. Having said that, I really enjoyed the meal, and they provide a range of bottled sauces that you can use and meter out yourself. My wife and I shared the empanadas, I had the chicken tortilla soup (my favorite part of the meal, and then she had the signature tacos and I had a burrito. I've never rated a place in my life until now. To start, it took almost an hour for my food to arrive with no heads up while waiting on when it would arrive or an apology for the wait. They were not very busy at all. That's okay, but the worst part of it all was I ordered the chicken empanadas, a taco, and the steak pabellón arepa. The picture showed a lot of meat, rice, plantains, and beans and what I got was a joke. There was really nothing inside of the arepa and the empanadas. It was mostly breading. There was no flavor in my meal. I actually left more hungry than when I went in. If I could give a negative or 0 star I 110% would. Very disappointed. read more

We drove past this for YEARS. That was a huge mistake. The couple that owns it are lovely and her food takes you to a different place. Incredibly fresh ingredients and just amazing food. Things take a little longer sometimes, so enjoy a cocktail and the island experience. Yes, it is a little pricer than some places, but the quality of the drinks and food are unparalleled. Get the Paballon Arepa, it is very authentic and the signature there. The texture of the arepa is to die for. The street tacos and palomas are amazing as well. Oh my word! I can't believe I haven't discovered this gem earlier! As you walk into Arepas you feel instantly transported to Latin America. The interior is beautifully decorated with lots of South American vibes. As we walked in we where greeted by cheery salsa music and a very friendly staff member. She explained the menu to us since it was our first time there and made some great recommendations. The food itself is authentic and oh soooo yummy! We ordered Arepas, plantain, chips and salsa. Wow! Been wanting to try this place for awhile & finally stopped by. You place your order at the front & then seat yourself. There was a board with 2 specials (steak tacos, tostones rellenos) but no price. Hubby ordered the steak tacos while I got the tostones rellenos. It's a good thing I wasn't real hungry because the tostones rellenos looked like a small appetizer but the price wasn't small ($16.99). Hubby's 3 steak tacos were $14.99. We both agreed that the food was tasty but the price was high for the small amount of food we received. We left hungry. read more

I had zero expectations and was totally blown away by how good the food was!! I had one arepa and part of an empanada and loved them both. I love that you can customize the fillings inside the arepa and the variety of fillings. They ran out of steak "the order before ours" so we tried to barbacoa. I was expecting tough and overseasoned meat, but it was tender and perfect. The masa in the arepa had such a nice texture and the whole thing was so edible. So I'm glad they ran out of steak because I normally wouldn't have tried the barbacoa. I really liked the chicken empanada as well, it had yuca inside it, had a great texture and the chicken was really tasty. I didn't like the creamy cilantro sauce much but the dark green sauce from the salsa bar in the back with the mannequin (?) was amazing and I slathered that on everything. The vibe here is modern tiki, with more emphasis on modern than tiki which is cute but a bit soulless. There was a cool drum setup and guitar on the corner by the bathrooms (very clean and nice btw) so maybe they have live music here sometimes? It'd be super fun to come see that. The one confusing thing here is the service, like you order up at the counter... we ordered our drinks and then sat down to look at the menu and went back to order, so the girl at the counter had to add our drinks. It was weird and very crowded by the ordering area because the menu is slightly complicated or has a lot of customizations or something. So it was unclear how much service we would get during the meal and therefore unclear how much was appropriate for a tip... I felt bad for the staff because there's only one place for them to bring food out and it's through the gaggle of people ordering food :( It seems difficult for them and it's awkward for customers too. Also unfortunately it took over 40 minutes for our food to come out. It was really popular on a Saturday night, eventually the manager or owner came out and started making rounds and explained that they were short staffed. I don't normally time how long it takes for the food to come out but it was really long. Anyway, the food is banging, and I believe in their ability to figure it all out!! EXCEPTIONAL, EXCEPTIONAL FOOD. It is a perfect bite. The arepa is fresh and you can taste the love and passion they have put in. It was crunch, light and hot. The stuffing was also perfect. Tender meat, awesome cheese and plantain. I can not praise the chef enough. I also got the Yuca Frita (5/5) crunch and perfectly fried yuca. It's like local French fries. The sauce accompanied it was light and refreshing. I am going here again and would highly recommend it. The staff are exceptional and friendly. I love arepas and empanadas so I was very excited when Latin Arepas moved down the street from me! I gave them a couple weeks to get opening kinks worked out. Went today around 6pm. They are only open 4-8pm right now due to low staff. The lounge was pretty full and lots of people waiting to order. You place your order and get an order number. The owner was taking orders and he is so fun and vibrant! You can tell he has a passion for this food and that makes it even better. He did a great job of explaining the culture and dishes to those who have never enjoyed it. I ordered the 4 arepa bites and 2 empanadas. The arepa bites feature one bean, beef, barbacoa and chicken. I think these are a great way to sample all the meat and styles. They are super cute too. I highly recommend starting with those if you aren't sure what to get. I got a beef and a chicken empanada. Flavor is good. Only thing I will say is that they are made ahead of time and kept under a heat lamp by the counter. When they sell out, they are out. Maybe once they are more staffed, they can be cooked to order. I prefer empanadas when they have a bit of a crunch when you bit in and then get to the soft inside. The beef is ground. The chicken is shredded. Sauces come on the side of both dishes. The green sauce is very yummy. I believe it is a cilantro lime. And then you get green hot sauce and regular hot sauce. I hope they are able to get more staff soon so that it can be running with more hours! I also think this would allow them to put more time into the dishes like other sauces and preparing things on demand. The staff was super friendly and walked us through the menu options, explaining all the various flavors and items we had never tried before. I got an order of 4 arepa bites which had a sampling of chicken, black bean, barbacoa and ground beef. They came with a creamy red and a creamy green cilantro based sauce. All 4 were delicious and I could drink the green sauce! We ordered the Nutella pastelitos for dessert and they were a sweet treat to end the meal. It looks like this place has two listings in Yelp, so I'm posting my review to both. Service was friendly and helpful. We tried a little of everything, and it was all delicious. Tiny chicken street tacos came with tiny little limes, adorable and very tasty. Bean & cheese empanadas were made fresh to order, and also yummy. Yucca frita was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and served with a green cilantro sauce that we all loved. Barbacoa Arepa was very good. Pabellon Arepa was fabulous - but VERY messy. The bottom got so soggy that the beans were leaking out the bottom, I finally had to give up and eat it with a fork. That's when I discovered that the green sauce that came with the yucca was delicious on that pabellon too. Highly recommend this place - I'm not in Dayton often these days, but if I'm in the neighborhood again I would definitely return to eat here again. read more

Have been driving by for several months watching the progress - finally open! We stopped by for dinner and ordered two arepas, the yucca frites, and two empanadas. We walked in and ordered at the counter - a very friendly gentleman helped us decide what to try. The place is super cute and clean. Our server was cute and sweet too - food arrived quickly! The empanadas were delish, the beef was our favorite - all our plates came with this incredibly delicious green sauce - wow! We moved on to the yucca fries, they were fresh/hot...we dipped them in more green sauce! The yucca fries become tough as they cool, so eat them hot. They remind me of French fries, but kind of bland. We ate the arepas last and poured more green sauce inside them. They are filled with beans, meat, cheese. They were good, but a bit doughy. We will be back and try the tacos next...and another round of empanadas! The tiered, outdoor patio looks ready for summer though the step/drop off looks like you could break an ankle if you didn't see it - maybe paint a yellow warning stripe on it. A mixed review here. We wanted to love this place and still unsure. First the food was really good! Unfortunately we had to wait 45 min to receive our food. Order placed soon after 6pm. Not a problem finding a seat, not at full capacity. A few workers pleasantly kept us hopeful but still LONG wait. My wife asked for some gratuity chips and unfortunately we got them after our meal to cap off the average and displeasing evening of service. At the Centerville Food Truck Friday rally, I gave this truck a try and I'm glad I did! The owner is a fun and friendly guy who obviously enjoys his work. I ordered two tacos, which you can totally customize. One chicken, one barbacoa beef, both with all veggies available and feta cheese. There's a pretty impressive array of hot sauces and seasonings set up beside the truck so you can customize your food as well, and I applied a couple drops of an 'Amazon' hot sauce but left my tacos largely unaltered for a more objective taste test. Wow. Just, wow. The veggies, the cilantro, tasted so fresh I wouldn't be surprised if you told me they were picked that morning (by beautiful maidens wading through dewy gardens while the sun rose, even.) Both the chicken and barbacoa were marvelously seasoned. The chicken is *quite* juicy so these are not commuter friendly I'm afraid. I hope to visit the truck again soon and try more of their menu! read more
