Planned to meet a friend out there, checked the business hours, and arrived during their scheduled open hours. However, upon arrival, there was a black and white typed sign on the door that said they were no longer open, there was yellow tape across the door and the building was dark and empty. Great authentic Puerto Rican food! I placed a large catering order for my wife's birthday party and wanted to take her back home to Puerto Rico, in spirit anyways, and the food from Latino's helped to make that happen. Ordered the peril, beans and gandules and everything was absolutely amazing. Since moving from Florida a few years back we have really missed the Latin food, so we are happy that we found Latino's. I reached out to Sonda a couple of weeks ahead of time to discuss options and she was very helpful with providing details on what I should order and to make sure we had plenty of food. CALL AHEAD. If this review was food-only, it would have been five stars. But, since we had not been warned ahead of our first visit, from entering the restaurant to the food served was 50 minutes. The menu clearly states "cooked to order-allow time", but that doesn't help when you are already there. To-go or dine-in, the smart money is in calling first. There are only six tables with seating, many two-tops in this small restaurant in a strip center. But, consider yourself warned and head over for some great Latin food. While we were pondering the menu, literally every customer in the place had already been there before and told us to expect a wonderful meal. We had two Mofongos (the classic with Carne Frita, the other substituting slow-cooked pork for the pork chunks, $18). The Carne Frita was a little over-cooked but very flavorful, the slow-cooked was excellent. We also tried the traditional Cuban ($13), very tasty and like the other two entrees, too generous to eat in one setting. Allow time and be aware they are only open three days a week- 12 to 7- and they're serious about opening at noon, even with people standing outside, they didn't open until a few minutes after. read more

Latino's is only open later in the week but we'll worth it! They did a whole remodel inside, the place looks more inviting, making it less "whole-in-wall." Owners are super nice and have a nice flood of Hispanic customers that are regularly coming back for lunch. Arroz con gondules is the best. Empanadas are made to order and delicious. Being from the island of Puerto Rico I can truly say that it's authentic. Didn't eat in, we ordered to go because we were busy. The beans were delicious and my husband loved the Cuban sandwich . We got there too late to get bread they sell ( pan sobao) which is a slightly sweet bread that is use to prepare sandwiches of all kind or enjoy with butter and a cup of coffee. I had a small lunch, which is generally unlike me. In fact, I rarely have any small meals. Combat my small lunch with pumping out 8 miles on the treadmill, and I was famished. Stopped by for a very early dinner, around 4:30 or so. Due to the odd hour, I was the only one in the place. Very small cafe with only about 5 tables. My guess is they do a lot of carry out. I lived in the Miami area for 4 years, so I know my way around some Cuban food. I also had some Puerto Rican friends, so I have had those native dishes as well. I like to think the two food styles are similar. I am sure any Boriqua or Cubano would argue differently, but coming from this southern Anglo, the styles are similar. Empanadas are one of my favorite Latin foods. I wanted to try the chicken but they only had pizza or beef. A pizza empanada?!? On my next visit, I am definitely going to get one of those, but I chose the beef. Delicious. The minced meat was flavorful and tender and the size of these things is huge! Crispy and wonderful. For the main dish I got the pollo a la criolla. Dark meat chicken in a sofrito, onion, garlic and olive sauce. Outstanding! I would have liked a little more chicken, but what was there was so tender and the sauce was perfect. Came with rice and beans. The guy gave me three huge scoops of arroz con gondules and topped it with pinto beans. A meal in and of itself. Everything was delicious! If you like Latin food (non mexican), you have got to try Latinos! Run by a husband and wife and they are so friendly. Great value as well. read more

Can I just say that this is one of the best places I've ever been to - and I don't say this lightly because I have traveled the freaking WORLD in search of excellent food. This is definitely a hole in the wall. My coworker found this since we were in the area for a meeting, and as we pulled up, we were like, uh are we in the right place? The Puerto Rican food is absolutely bomb here. I had the carne frita (now I am addicted and obsessed with this dish) and plantains, and my coworkers had the mofongo. The portion size is huge, and we were super stuffed but we didn't want to have any left over because it was THAT GOOD. Came to town to visit my mother for Mother's Day and stumbled upon this Puerto Rican "chinchorro" (little hole in the wall)! The food at Latinos is unpretentious, yet it's delicious, fresh and you can tell by the taste, that it's homemade. I had the lunch special: arroz con gandules (rice & pigeons peas), stewed pork ribs and tostones (crispy plantain fritters). My brother ordered the steak with onions with a side of rice and red beans. We also ordered beef empanadillas, which are fried fresh to order. The food was simply phenomenal! It transported my taste buds back to beautiful Puerto Rico. The husband and wife team that own this hidden gem, were warm and welcoming. Back for lunch today with a friend and we both had the Tripleta sandwich. The bread was baked in store yesterday. Three meats... cheese... special sauce (mayo and ketchup?) then grilled and pressed. It was warm and melty goodness. You could taste the individual flavors of the meats and they worked well together. My first time being here the owner helped me. They didn't have any menus yet, which is very odd for any restaurant even new ones. So I ask the owner what he would recommend and I took his recommendations. I went with the steak and onions, fried plantains and white rice with red beans. Steak and onions: 1/5 Stars While the onions gave really good flavor, the meat just seemed cooked to oblivion. It was extremely dry and begged for seasoning. Fried Plantains: 4/5 Some really good flavor here and cooked just perfectly. Red beans and rice: You could add some salt yourself whatever you prefer, but they are a little bit bland. The ham does that flavor, what is really lacking in some of this food is seasoning. Overall I would say my first visit was a very pleasant one but nothing really stood out to give that wow factor coming or going. It is very underseasoned and they don't serve anything naturally spicy which is fine. But the food you can tell is fresh which makes this place a winner in my book. I come to South Carolina twice a year to visit my mom. She missed having rice and beans being that she's in an assisted living facility eating bland food. I Yelped this place and found an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant which reminded me of similar restaurants back in Puerto Rico. The owner, Mike cooks everything from scratch. Although this restaurant is in a gas station and does not have the decor like a Havana Kitchen or even a bar, I'm willing to take the Pepsi Challenge of this food verses any restaurant in all of South Carolina. I had the shrimp mofongo and my wife had chicken criollo with arroz Con gandules. Both dishes were delightfully scrumptious especially the rice which had bits of tosino, ham and olives. My mom had the fried chicken with tostones. After a delicious meal, my family and I shared some old times of life in Puerto Rico. My mom loved the conversation so much, she didn't want to leave. That's life in Puerto Rican restaurants. You eat great food and share stories and enjoy each other's company. I'll be back here in April with my mom having another great meal and chatting with Mike and his wonderful wife in the most underrated restaurant in all of South Carolina. Absolutely ridiculous. I decided to give them 1 more shot and ordered my food and they told me 15 minutes...and 1 hour and 15 minutes later I received my food. I will never be back.
