I stopped by today after noticing they had bánh mì sandwiches on the menu and decided to try the Spicy Korean BBQ bánh mì. It was delicious, generously sized, and packed with flavor. The customer service was excellent as well. The employee who helped me, I believe her name was So, was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place and plan on coming back. My only minor complaint is that they close a bit early (around 3 PM), but the food and service make it well worth the visit. read more

Got take-out from this place twice now and it's really good! I've had their donut holes and latte, which were both. Their pork chop was also fantastic! We walked in and the lady was yelling at her family member who also works there about something. My bf ordered two donuts and she put them in the microwave. As they were microwaving I noticed it was literally messy behind the counter with a bottle of aveeno lotion and ensure protein drink knocked over and just mass amounts clutter. It literally looked like a cluttered apartment with just things! Like not even restaurant related tools, just literally personal things everywhere. It was so weird! I understand we have to support local small businesses, but I had one of the worst cafe experiences here in the city. I stopped by to get my breakfast, but instead, I was treated to the owner loudly yelling on the phone while customers were still in the store. It was uncomfortable and unprofessional--it ruined the atmosphere. The lack of respect for customers is disappointing. By the way, the owner insisted on charging me a dollar to refill my coffee, but there was no information on the menu for such an additional charge. The owner also overcharged me for my order. The owner's attitude was absolutely rude and unacceptable. I won't be back, and I'd advise others to look for a place even if they need a quick breakfast bite. read more

Feeling something more caffeinated? They have a vietnamese coffee combo for less than $10. Banh mi: Excellent! Crispy bread, thick slices of pork, plenty of pickled shredded carrots. Tiny sandwich shop that makes you think you can run in and out to grab a quick sandwich but it can take a little longer during the lunch rush. Its location makes it convenient for folks coming in on Caltrain to grab some breakfast. For me, this is the closest spot to grab a Vietnamese sandwich at work. Sadly it's a pretty pedestrian one at that. I have only gotten the ham combo here but thought the bread was a little stale and lacking the district punch of flavor you would expect from the meaty pâté to pickled veggies. It will suffice for a quick lunch at your desk. Sadly not many options around the neighborhood for a bahn mi so this will have to suffice. Friendly folks that work here trying their best to move you through the line. They have other items on the menu like curries and stews but I wished they had more folks on the sandwich assembly line to speed things up. read more

We've been going here for a year and it seems today there is new ownership. Everything was different. New people and new items. Its always the wife and husband I believe, they work together but today was different for the first time in a year. The burgers state they come with fries but the woman only gave me one order of fries and said that we never said anything. It states on the menu it comes with fries!!!!! She then rang me up and took my card and entered the total and gives me a receipt and I notice she tipped herself 8.50. When I asked her how she got that, she said I submitted and pressed the button when I didn't even get a chance to see it. I confirmed with her the total she told me is different, the grand total was still on the register. She got annoyed and gave me the cash difference and said she doesn't know how she tipped herself 8.50. THEN, there was another lady on squatted inches off the ground, with her bare hands, removing the glaze off the donuts and throwing the glaze in a plastic bag. She then put the donuts back on display!!!! A guy walked in and asked for a latte and she gave him a different price than what's on the menu. Lied to him and said the card reader isn't working and if he could zelle her. The guys card finally goes through, after he took the machine from her hand and did it himself. The quality of the food was so bad today. The burger was drenched in mayo and the bacon, I put the pieces together, it was one strip shriveled up. I'm very disappointed because it was such a good burger. We've been going there for a year. The previous couple would know our order when we walked in, she'd already be writing it down. It used to be such a good diner style burger. It's the fact that she took it upon herself to give herself whatever she wanted without showing me. Perfect mom and pop shop. So far I've had a breakfast burrito, breakfast croissant sandwich, chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken, pork sandwich, fries and philly steak sandwich obviously not all in one sitting lol. The food in general is good I enjoyed everything I ate. Don't expect something you'd eat in a newly gentrified location where the cooks have gone to culinary school or have a special pretentious ingredient they implement into everything. Yes there is usually a wait but considering there are only two people working I think it's reasonable. I suggest to call ahead 15 minutes if you want to quickly get in and out. Came because I saw Vietnamese sandwiches and breakfast being served and was surprised to see the large spread of offerings for this place: sandwiches, coffee, burgers, salads, pastries, and more! Not only that, but it seems that the owners have loyal customers because they were fairly busy when I came around 6:45AM on a Monday. Waited about 5-10 minutes the order be done. - Vietnamese Iced Coffee: too much ice imo. taste was similar to cold brew but still definitely hitting the same flavor profile that you'd expect from viet coffee. - Bagel with sausage / egg / cheese: pretty good! perfect balance of cheesy and savory tastes, with crunchy and soft textures. served warm and cut in half. next time, I'll ask to add bacon. - Glazed donut: SOOO GOOD! Glaze was just the level of sweetness. Dough was perfectly risen to fluffy, yeasty goodness. Best donut I've had since I've moved to the city (which was a year ago!). Would definitely get this again. - Vietnamese sandwich w lemon grass pork: Really great flavor from the pork, but wish there was more pickles and that they used pate. On the pricier side, but still good value. Overall, seems like a really nice place to get your breakfast for a decent price. I usually get the Breakfast Sandwich (Egg, Sausage, Cheese, sandwiched in a Muffin.) (be sure to have them add mustard) here. They are quick and easy to eat on the run. Breakfast here is cheaper than McDonald's, they do use a real egg for the sandwich. Sandwich has always been served hot to me. Many other choices if the Breakfast Sandwich is not your choice of preference. This place recommended if your in the area. Good small place with a few tables. You wouldn't think that a donut/coffee shop would have good food, but this place does. I'm a huge fan of their bacon breakfast sandwich. The ones at Starbucks just taste organic. If I'm going to get something with bacon, then I'd want a little good ole American grease to go with it. The breakfast burrito is pretty good as well. Their burgers are good as well. They don't use fancy aioli or a special sauce. Its just a plain old, straight forward burger that does the job when you're craving one. I do wish they still made Banh Mi sandwiches. What's with the bad reviews for this place? Latte Express is exactly what it looks like. It's a mini-diner. They are not gourmet. They don't offer seared ahi or kale salads. Ironically enough, I don't even think they make lattes. If that's what you're looking for, there are dozens of those types of restaurants in SoMa. Latte Express is kitschy. They are dirt cheap. They serve carby Asian/American food like sandwiches, two egg breakfasts, rice plates, and curries. Some of their surfaces are dusty and it looks like they haven't wiped off their letter boards in years. Why are you surprised? It's a diner-- Have you ever been to one? My Vietnamese sandwich with grilled pork was flavorful and spicy. The baguette was fresh, crispy and flaky on the outside, & soft in the middle. They didn't skimp on the cilantro either. There's nothing not to love about this place if you take it for what it is. I will absolutely be back. read more

It was about $5.70, so not bad, although I was a bit surprised when the price I was charged did not match the price on the window (I think it said $4). They are pretty speedy, so this is a good place to go if you're looking to pick up a quick meal to bring back to work. I just started working in SOMA this week and today was the first day I had my lunch hour free to roam the streets and search for something to eat. Initially, I saw Safeway to my left and a familiar Mexican place to my right -- both of which were just too safe. When in SF why not try something new? (Which in fact has become my goal now -- to not have the same thing twice). Anyways, I was walking about 2 blocks past my work and came across Latte Express. It's so funny cause it was the most hole-in-the-wall out of all the places I passed, but I think that's what drew me in the most. Being a lover of all Asian cuisine, I opted for the grilled chicken Vietnamese sandwich and a thai tea. UM. AMAZING. I don't know what more to say.. I'm stuffed right now but in the best way possible. First off, the sandwich roll they served it on was SO fresh. The chicken was the perfect temperature -- paired with fresh shredded carrots and cucumbers. Holy moly. Mouth-watering. And my tea was perfection. Not too sweet & not too watered down. This was my first time having thai tea without tapioca pearls so I was nervous, lol, but it was so freaking good. Looks like I found my new lunch spot! Oh, and $7 total ;) read more
