Yum! We were visiting friends in Eugene and they brought us here for lunch and we were really happy that they did! I have the special burrito of the day, it was an East Indian concoction made with tempeh - it was VERY flavorful and a VERY generous serving - I was stuffed! Everyone's meal was very good. I like that it is VERY veg friendly without making omnivores feel like they are eating twigs & berries. We sat outside on their patio which is a very pleasant. I have been eating at Laughing Planet regularly for the past two years, and am always pleased with my meals whether that be a chicken burrito, bowl, or yummy quesadilla. Personally, I am a huge fan of their food, but whenever I bring a friend with me, they don't seem to love it as much as I do. My favorite dishes typically involve lots of veggies and are often influenced by Mexican food, so Laughing Planet is my cup of tea, but their more wild dishes often intrigue and then disappoint my friends which can be a little frustrating. Overall, this place is pretty solid. Whenever I want comfort food that won't hit me like a gut bomb I go here. It offers a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options but has plenty of chicken and beef options for the meat lovers as well. There are even gluten free dishes clearly labeled on the menu. They use local, seasonal ingredients and always have a rotating special for the week. Unfortunately they took the "Thai Me Up" burrito off of their menu. I went in and asked for it, only to be told it was no longer listed. They refused to make the Thai Bowl (essentially the same thing) in burrito form. Ok. That's weird. Even weirder, the next time I went in I casually mentioned that I was bummed the Thai Me Up was no longer available. The cashier told me that even though it is not on the menu it is still in their system so if you know about it, you can still order it. Why didn't they just tell me that the first time? I'm also disappointed they are no longer doing their 7 After 7 deal where they offered a burrito and pint of beer for $7 after 7pm. I'd love for them to bring it back! read more

Laughing Planet has a quirky atmosphere and innovative menu focused on burritos, all of which can be made sans-tortilla (as a "bowl"). Basically it's Latin American influenced health-conscious cuisine, served in a quirky / offbeat / hipster setting--with plastic dinosaurs at every table! Previous reviewers have already discussed the dinosaurs, so I won't elaborate. I wonder how often they're sanitized, however... On my first visit I ordered the Che Guevara (one of the "exotic" burritos) as a bowl, and the second time I went for the Grilled Veggie (also on the exotic burrito menu) as a bowl, sans cheese and with kale instead of grains. Upon both visits the food was fresh and flavorful. Pros: Any burrito can be made a bowl at no additional charge. Any bowl can be made paleo (with sauteed kale instead of grain) for $2 extra. Vegan cookies. Gluten-free cookies. Excellent pico de gallo, and a large selection of other salsas and sauces--including South Indian coconut, lemongrass peanut, and cilantro pumpkin seed pesto. The list of veggie sides and add-ins is extensive, and smoothies are made with locally-grown berries. Decent coffee with free refills (and they have soymilk. Also stevia!) Friendly service. Outdoor patio and a few tables out front also. Cons: Can't think of anything specific. 4 stars instead of 5 simply because it wasn't out-of-this world extraordinary (haven't had the urge to make a trip across town for it). read more

I like it! The dinosaurs (go see for yourself) are just one of many reasons why Laughing Planet kicks the shit out of Cafe' Yuck, AKA the McDonald's of alternative food, and merits five stars on the scale used by most Yelpers. It's in my favorite neighborhood, after all, just a few short blocks from the house on Monroe Street where I first fell in love. In fact, my first love's little brother works at Laughing Planet - it's a small world after all! - and he is just one of the many cool people who work there. Fellow patrons are a worthy bunch, too. The burritos are tasty fare, as others say...in fact, they put most all the others around town to shame. None of the Mexican places in Eugene (yes, I've tried all of them, and I do mean all) offer such quality ingredients, though many charge as much or more for less burrito. The chicken is especially tasty (forgive me, gentle veg-head readers!) and the Mondo burritos should satisfy all but the most voracious gourmands. Laughing Planet's bowls and salads are good, too: Satisfying, and comprised of stuff you can put in your body without reservation. You might wish for a little more of some ingredient or another, but overall the portions are reasonable for the price. Downsides? First, I'm not down with the whole cafeteria style bus-your-own-table setup. I don't mind ordering at the counter or cleaning up after myself, but I do mind cleaning up after the people before me. Oftentimes they were slobs who got more food on the table than in their mouths, and the staff only cleans up at closing; if you want a clean table, you have to clean it yourself. It is good to service your fellow humans and clean up after others occasionally - the whole thing about Jesus washing his disciples' feet really humbles me - but even Jesus didn't do it right before he ate. Plus, if I want to do volunteer work, there are lots of places I don't have to pay for the privilege. There's no way around this: Laughing Planet is dirty unless you clean yourself a spot. Eww. It's best to steer clear on Friday and Saturday nights, unless you were raised in some fascist place where people eat standing up; the crowd at Laughing Planet takes loitering to new depths. The menu is pretty limited - I'd eat at Laughing Planet more often if they offered a bit more variety - and then there's the fact that it's a chain. I loathe chain restaurants. Overall, though, the positives outweigh the negatives. Laughing Planet makes your tummy happy, doesn't hurt your wallet, and is a fun, kind-hearted place full of good people. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

We were out-of-towners just in to tour the college and now are heartbroken to learn there are no Laughing Planets in Southern California! So sad. So ive gone here a lot, but once I pulled 4in of hair out of my burrito It made me wonder. I brought the burrito back and pulled the hair out of my burrito in front of them. So they made me a new burrito, but this blonde chick was mad and i could hear her while i was waiting and like ugh you really think there was a hair in that burrito. Serious like if you think I am going to get a burrito to go get where im going stick a hair in it to go back and get 6 more bites. The only organic food is there chicken and beans. Such a cute little place. 2 goddesses and I were traveling through Eugene and Ashlee brought us here. The staff was friendly and patient with us... We have a lot of finicky food things to ask about :) (Is this GLuten Free? All Veg? What's in the sauce? Is it all Organic..? I really love this place! Ingredients are sourced locally and service is fast but not so fast you wonder if it was fresh . They are constantly having specials every month that feature seasonal ingredients. Flavors are fun and adventurous. You can always find something simple for your kids here like mashed potatoes, corn and broccoli with cheese. The only drawback is the ambiance. The sound acoustics are terrible. This place is a great go to staple. Fresh, healthy food that is most importantly delicious. Very vegetarian friendly too. They have the best habanero sauce I've ever had! Tuesday April 29, 2014 noon-ish.... My first time at Laughing Planet. The cafe was busy, but they managed it efficiently and took only 15 minutes before our food arrived. I ordered the Lebanese Delight (Bowl) $6.25... it was delicious, filling, and healthy. My friend, who regularly frequents LP, loved her Grilled Chicken Burrito. I've zero complaints (well, except for the bathroom key, which is an unsanitary method) other than that, I've nothing but good things to say about Laughing Planet. Will definitely return! read more

Love this place!! Call in or dine in, it is awesome either way! The kids always enjoy a burrito or the Spankys bowl is always a favorite. I enjoy their salads and my hubby always finds something to go for. When we dine in we bring other dinosaurs to play with the ones that live there, the kids pass the fairly short amount of time waiting for our food, playing with Dino's!! I am always weary of a vegetarian place. But this place serves up some real nice, fresh food. Fresh veggies with chicken, tofu or tempeh for proteins. This place is great. I've only been once and had the Chairman Meow Rice Bowl with curry sauce and tofu. All of it was SO good. Can't wait to go back and try some other things. This weekend we had some time to kill, so I said to the wife, "Lets try out the Laughing Planet" We were both a little sketched about the place being at 7th and blair. And even more confused to see it was in the worlds smallest plaza. I mean really, can you call that a plaza? Any hizzy...We're certainly not snobs, and were down to give it a shot. Laughing Planet is DEFINITELY a "Eugene-style" type restaurant. Yes, each employee i seen had piercings, but again, if your from Eugene piercings are something you see on a normal basis and it wasn't a bother at all. Everyone was really nice actually. We explained that we had never ate there before, and the girl taking our orders recommended a few items we might like. She also pointed out that all the Tofu and Tempeh CAN be subbed for CHICKEN at NO CHARGE EXTRA. SOMETHING tells me she got the feeling we weren't vegetarians. My wife got the BUBBA burrito and I got the Holy Mole burrito. That way we could both try each to see if we like the other. I ate my whole burrito, but it really was lacking something. I couldn't put my finger on it, perhaps some cilantro, lil more onion, something.....I gave my wifes burrito a try and that tasted A LOT better than the holy mole. Hers had a spicy bbq sauce in it, and the sweet corn that was in it gave it an extra flavor that was good, but nothing spectacular. It was a 2-0 vote for the bubba. We had our 16 month old baby with us, she had fun playing with dinosaurs and looking at the dinosaur book they had available. We got her a Mini Cheese quesadilla that was 2.95. She liked it, as did i...I had to taste it. It was about a 10 minute wait for our food, which is fine with us. Originally being from the southern Oregon coast, your LUCKY to get food in 10 minutes! Hell, even the double drive through at McD's is a 10 min wait. Overall we liked that the place had a very relaxed atmosphere, and were VERY kid friendly. But all-in-all.....We are out for food. And this place was Ok, nothing that i'll be wanting again anytime soon. If i was in their area and I had a friend suggest that they wanted to go there, I would go. But I won't hop in my car and head down voluntarily again anytime soon. When it comes to burritos i would rather go to Chipotle for sure. read more

I was really excited when I found out they were redoing the menu at Laughing Planet. I had eaten there enough that I was burned out on everything. That being said, I am a little disappointed with the new menu. Quinoa on a burritto is just wrong in my book. The way the menu is organized with Paleo this and whatever trendy "that" i just left me disappointed. They still have some of the old items, but the new additions aren't that great. Don't get me wrong: they still use the best ingredients and it is a good value, I just wish they would have gone in another direction. I don't know how I forgot to write a review for this place, it's soo good! I ordered the Thai bowl, the peanut sauce on it was so amazing and creamy. The pb&j smoothie was really good and balanced, which is surprising cause a lot of places don't get it right. I'm not vegetarian but any time there are places like this with a variety of options it makes me change my mind cause this food is whole, fresh and delicious. Like others have said, this place is great for kids. There are dinosaurs to play with and the general commotion means you aren't going to ruin anyone's meal by being, well, a family with kids. Love the HOLY MOLE burrito with the RICE CHEESE. I don't know how they do it, but they make their non-dairy cheese almost as good as the real thing. The beans are terrific and the kids menu works for my super picky son. I don't really understand what they do to their plantains. I'm sure someone thinks they're good, but they don't taste anything like the platanos maduros (or tostones) that I love. They can get busy, so call in your order, even if you're eating there. Don't be shy about asking them what happened to your order, too. A couple of times the system sort of broke down when it came to getting our food in our hands. read more

Laughing Planet is one of the more kid friendly places in town with dinosaurs to play with at the tables, an open floorplan, lots of kids options, playful decor, and lots of other Mom's and Dad's with kiddo's in tow. The food is good... not great. They recently changed the menu and took some of our favorites out of circulation. Boo! Kid's menu is pretty basic and a bit overpriced. The portions are nice for the full menu but a tiny little cheese quesadilla and some steamed broccoli will run you close to $5. The beer selection is q! I found laughing planet on my way to Seattle from Orange County CA. The food was delicious. My friends had the Bollywood Bowls and I had a Paleo Bowl with the killer green sauce. Deliciously hippie! A nice little break in our drive up to Portland for a much-needed lunch. I got a bowl of rice, beans, avocado and some other stuff and my friend got a quesadilla. The portion size was pretty big and we were both satisfied with our food. It wasn't the absolute best I've ever had, but it worked. There's free wifi and quite a few places to plug in a laptop. Very tasty vegan food! A friend and I stopped by here on our way through Eugene on a lengthy road trip. She got the Cuban Bowl and I got the Soylent Green Bowl (which you can get with BOTH the cilantro pesto and the shiitake mushroom sauce if you like). We were both very pleased with our lunches. I really liked the texture of the barley-quinoa pilaf. I found the bowl to be filling, but with enough greens that it didn't make me feel overfull. We got the Che Guevara wraps to go for a late-night driving snack and they were really good too. The wraps held up and weren't too messy to eat, even a few hours later.
