I had heard so many good things about Laughing Planet, so yesterday me and two of my friends took me to the restaurant to give it a try. The cafe focuses on creating a healthy menu that's good both for the customer and the environment by offering plenty of vegan, paleo, and gluten - free options. I had a delicious cookie made with hazelnuts and seeds, and my friends got a burrito and a bowl. The food is really, really flavorful and not too expensive, and I enjoyed the environmentally - friendly values that the restaurant stands for (I saw that there was an option to order a naked burrito, which was essentially just a burrito without the aluminum foil wrapped around it!) Overall, I had a pleasant experience here, and will definitely be coming back again! read more

I usually don't write these. Actually I never have before because I used to work in the service industry and understand you can't please everyone because some are just very hard to please. Im as laid back and easy going as they get and I have been a HUGE fan and supporter of Laughing Planet for over 15 years. Well tonight 11-1-20 has changed my mind. I don't know if I have ever had worse customer service as far as friendly. No greetings, instead was met w being told what to do because I didn't have my mask on to her liking. Which I had a mask on but it wasn't fast enough or on properly according to her. As I was ordering and asking questions about the order, it was met with mono tone one word responses. So already I feel unwelcome. As I sit and wait for my food I hear she is greeting everyone else coming in (who was also guilty of the same mask wearing violation that I guess I was guilty of) with a totally different vocal tone and also they are actually greeted with a "hello" or actual friendly greeting. When I am given my order I was jus trying to make small talk about the delicious Medium salsa and how good it is. That was met w no word responses and instead a, "Hmm." As im leaving I say "Thank you luv!" Which is jus how I talk and is a part of how I am polite. No response but instead what im met with as im walking out the door is her yelling at me, "Don't call me luv!" I didn't respond and I jus kept walking. I have no idea if they stereo typed me coming in as if im some Conservative Trump supporter or something, haha. But thats exactly how they made me feel. As someone who has been on their shit list for a while for some reason. To the point I almost don't wanna eat the food I got in thinking they may have messed w my food as well. All I know is they did a great job making me feel very uncomfortable and not welcome. I have been coming to LP both in Eugene and Portland for years. Generally we enjoy Laughing Planet and would give them five stars. Tonight was a half busy unfortunately. The Bollywood Bowl was horrible! The DIY Taco bowl was much better. Like a zero rating and a five rating, on scale of zero to five. The Bollywood Bowl we thought when ordering without a protein typically has a price reduction, but that could have changed with Covid. It was the same $11.50. The rice was the only warm, not hot (as in heat temperature not spicy) item in the entire bowl. We replaced the green beans for steamed broccoli. Unfortunately the broccoli and cauliflower were hard, like fresh raw veggies which is totally healthy and fine, however, we were looking forward to a hot bowl on a cold night. Unsure if they remembered to add the curry sauce as the bowl was essentially dry and mostly flavorless except the spicy chickpeas. The spinach was moist and cold too as were the yams. Major bummer! On the other hand, the taco bowl, this one had protein (pork) was delicious, a five on the scale. The tortillas that came with it were hot wrapped in tin foil, and the entire bowl was hot, not warm or cold. Same price $11.50, much better option. Perhaps just an off night, we hope. read more

Im definitely frustrated this evening after I got home and looked at my order to find that my order was wrong. I specifically told the person who helped me that my partner has strict diet restrictions. I said no chickpeas. They gave me chickpeas. I ordered mushroom tacos. They gave me pork tacos. Just when we thought we had exhausted the food offerings within the city, we found ourselves uncovering this quirky vegetarian restaurant a few blocks from Monroe Park. The restaurant offers Mexican-inspired dishes that seem to cater for a younger crowd as it reflects the unique character of the city in which it resides in. On our journey through Portland, we had seen a few other Laughing Planet Cafes, but this seems to be the only location within the Eugene city limits. Though a bit of a trek from campus, if one were to ever wander into the western portion of Eugene, there are quite a few other bakeries and cafes to discover. As for the food, we ordered the Holy Mole burrito with extra pico de gallo. For about eight dollars, it is comparable to the prices at Burrito Boy Taqueria though we would like to believe that a few extra dollars are well worth it to know that the ingredients used are locally grown. With a bit of brown rice, chicken, and pinto beans, it was definitely worth our short adventure into western Eugene not to mention the amazing homemade mole sauce. In addition, we cannot stress this enough, always order the largest size because these are the type of burritos where you would keep eating regardless of the fact that you are full. Lastly, the staff was courteous and it seems the entire atmosphere of the restaurant seems to emanate that unique, yet unexplainable, Eugene character. read more

Having been to the Portland establishments, I knew that on a recent visit to Eugene we could count on them to satisfy our surly twosome. The bonus... They had Lagunitas Hop Stoopid on tap and boy oh boy did it rock my world. I typically get the Thai Me Up burrito because I have a penchant for saying "Thai Me Up Please" to whomever is piloting the cash register. I'm sorry, publically, for doing that to you. Just know that I am a 36 year old father of two who has to get his kicks wherever he can just to keep it real. The kids menu is great. Outdoor seating was GREAT. Disclaimer: By no means are you going to find that they are the end all be all food establishment. I hear Eugene radicals are angry that they use canned beans... I could give two stinky diapers about that. The deal is this; the food does NOT suck. The atmosphere is decent. I enjoyed a very tasty meal here. I was in Eugene for a meeting, and needed a place where both a meat eater and a vegan/gluten-free/soy-free/dairy-free person could be happy. After reviewing the menu, I decided to meet a friend here for lunch. I ate the Holy Mole burrito as a bowl. I took out the chicken, used vegan cheese, and added quinoa. Everything was fresh, the flavors were well balanced with spice, and I ate every last bite in the bowl. I also ordered a side of corn tortillas, which were so good that I took them with me. I can't remember what my friend had, one of the Mexican burritos with meat. He was very happy. His daughter had a bowl of mashed potatoes with corn, which she really enjoyed. The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because of the service time. All staff were incredibly friendly. It took me a really, really long time to order. After finally ordering, I had to wait quite a bit for my food. My friend, who arrived a little earlier than our meeting time, was almost finished with his meal before I got mine. Laughing Planet was one of the first restaurants we tried in Eugene several years ago. Since that time, we've been back more times than we can count. The food is generally very good and consistent despite the apparent change in wait staff. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing the same wait staff there more than once. First and foremost, LP is extremely kid friendly. It's interior is funky and littered with plastic dinosaurs for me and the kids to play with. My wife will partake occasionally, but mostly she gives me the stink eye.. (just kidding...love you baby!) There is an eclectic mix of things to get on the menu. Everything from chicken burritos to a cuban bowl. Everyone in your family, including old aunt Ruth, can find something on their menu. If you want to spice up old aunt Ruth's food, they'll do that too and they have nice bathrooms, just in case... A lot of LP is self-serve. You get your own silverware. You get your own water. You even bus your own table. So if you're expecting someone to wait on you, it ain't gonna happen and LP is not the place for you. I used to work on an organic farm, and the restaurant owner? manager? decided to use us for organic broccoli and snowpeas. So at least they still have the ability to support and interface with the community. Good vegetarian fare for MAD cheap. I recommend the Mao bowl with spicy peanut sauce. Isn't in for a simple rice, bean and cheese burrito. I was charged 7$ for the adult burrito as expected. Brought to my table was a very small foiled wrapped burrito. I thought. " maybe they are making them smaller now." I had been there before, I gave the benefit. Then. I saw others with their big burritos. That's when I knew a mistake had been made. I went to the counter to ask for the difference in cost to be refunded, only $2.50. I would have loved to presented my receipt, but the gal that charged me lost my receipt, before I left the counter. (I can't explain stupid). Anyway, I did not get my refund. I got told by purple hair gal, "No, not doing it." She said she was the manager, she said other things too, none were appropriate or nice. Last time I go to laughing planet. Last time most of my nurse colleagues. Dr. Colleagues, friends, or anyone I know go to laughing plant. There is no excuse for treating people that support your business in this way. I work hard for my money, I'm an RN, working in this community during Covid. Really, would you, girl with purple hair laughing at the nurse you just stole from, want me to treat you or your loved ones this way? I doubt it. Located walking distance from the Lane Events Center. I ventured here one day because I was in the middle of a 3-day roller derby tournament needed food pronto. Thank you, Yelp, for not leading me astray. I ordered a Thai bowl that was super delish -- rice and bok choy and chicken with peanut sauce. YUM. Reminded me of a burrito bowl from Chipotle but with a Thai spin. I got it to go and it was ready very quickly. Price was very reasonable. I carried it back to the convention center and had a picnic on their lawn. My only complaint is that I wasn't given a bag to carry my take out in, and the food container was a bit hot. I understand being eco-friendly but since I was on vacation I didn't have my own reusable bag with me at the time. read more

All in all, this is my favorite "fast food" ish place to eat. This is a line up-place your order-find a seat-buss your own table kind of establishment, but without the cheesy atmosphere of a normal fast food restaurant. And, the food is anything but fast food quality. They have great wraps (Holy Mole, so good!), salads (Zappatista!), rice and bean bowls (meat and tofu, too!) and these crazy good nachos with veggies you don't normally find on nachos, but it works! Quesadillas, soups... You get the idea. They have smoothies and juices, and rotating beer and kombucha on tap. Plus some very yummy cookies. And I can't forget to mention the rotating specials which are usually creative and delicious. My favorite is the location on Blair in Eugene. The staff is always patient, helpful and friendly. Most of the time, the food is made very quickly. And, if there's a mix up, they quickly fix it without a fuss. read more

Laughing Planet is one of my favorite eateries in Eugene because it's the only place where my friends and I can agree on. I'm a health food nut, so I always get one of the bowls. My friends are the kind of people who can stomach unhealthy without feeling like a steaming tub of lard, so they tend to gravitate toward the burritos and quesadillas. Win-win. Now onto the criticism. Don't get me wrong -- I adore Laughing Planet -- but through trial and error I've learned that some of their dishes are better than others. I've gotten the burritoes on a few occasions and they've always been mediocre. Not bad, mind you, just... unimpressive. The tortillas are flavorless and stiff, and the burritos themselves are far too moist. The quesadillas suffer from the same bland-tortilla-disease. Some people on Yelp have mentioned that the burritos "taste" healthy, but I felt like I was ingesting hundreds of calories'-worth of sugar and grease when I ate them. Granted, I'm unusually sensitive to oils and fat in my food, but anyone who thinks that Laughing Planet's burritos are healthy are fooling themselves (just look up the nutritional info on their website). A word of advice: if you order a dish and you're given the option of chicken, tofu or tempeh, get the chicken. Your taste buds will rejoice. But the tempeh... well, any hippie knows that tempeh is a finnicky anti-meat. It's difficult to marinate correctly without ending up with an unpalatable cube of chunky soy matter, and Laughing Planet could benefit from a refresher course. If you want truly mind-blowing tempeh, go to Holy Cow Cafe. Pros: - Cute, family-oriented atmosphere -- there are plastic dinosaur action figures arranged on the tables, a pin-up board with community events and announcements, and copies of Eugene Weekly to peruse while you wait for your food. - Friendly employees. - Environmentally-conscious menu with local ingredients and gluten-free options. - They recently posted complete nutritional info on their website, and I was pleasantly surprised by how (relatively) healthy some of the bowls are. Cons: - The food is overpriced, especially if you add protein to your order ($2.50 for a measly five cubes of tofu? Come on!). Laughing Planet is definitely not a place that college students can afford on a daily basis, but it's worth it for a bi-weekly splurge. - Service is a slow on busy weeknights, but not overly so. Favorite dishes: - Dr. No's Low-Carb bowl (a mixture of steamed Asian veggies, chicken/tofu/tempeh, and red pepper garlic sauce; 290 calories), for my uber-healthy moods. - The Cuban bowl (which consists of brown rice, black beans, plantains, sweet potatoes, pico de gallo, and your choice of salsa; 410 calories), for my splurgerific moods. The plantains are cooked to just the right texture, and the mixture of sweet and spicy is to die for. read more

It lacked flavor, salt, and acidity. The spiciness was ridiculous on it too, most bites would be a 2/10 heat, then twice I got a blistering heat that made me want to spit it out. Veggie burrito! I had the burrito of the week and my friend had the "Che" burrito. I have never had a vegetarian burrito and didn't know what to expect from it. Well, low expectation or not, Laughing Planet's burrito blew my socks off! It was much better - BETTER!!! - than Chipotle burritos in terms of taste, cost and well-being. If I had a choice between Laughing Planet and Chipotle, I would choose Laughing Planet hands down, although I would occasionally need some meat in my diet and go to Chipotle instead. Good stuff! I was overwhelmed by the number of choices on the menu and the reasonable prices. I told the counter guy to suggest the one "don't miss" item. He recommended a mole burrito and I went with it. It came out quickly, the mole was a touch spicy for me, but the beans were well cooked, the chicken divine and the mixture perfect. A little messy, but so worth it. They have wifi and a million and one options for their food. Next time I'm going to try the nachos I think, or the plantains with barbecue sauce. read more

This is not a two-star restaurant. I've been a regular at this location since before I moved to Eugene, and during the year and a half that I've lived in Eugene. I love Laughing Planet. So why the two stars? There's been a change of management. This is code in the business for "this joint will start to suck more", which is exactly what has happened. When I first started eating at Laughing Planet, I was struck by the funky, goofy, relaxed vibe of the place. The people working there were cheerful, helpful and content - that last word is the key here: they were happy with their jobs. Over time I got to know many of them, and they were all fine human beings who I looked forward to seeing whenever I went in there. Also, and nontrivially, they were experienced workers who did their jobs efficiently while still keeping up the banter. Over the course of the last two months or so, almost the entire counter staff has changed at this location. There have been rumors, firings, and a wave of resignations. The folks who have popped up to replace them are obviously undertrained (not their fault), and things are pretty haywire. Service takes about twice as long on average, and I've had plenty of occasions where I need to follow up on an order to make sure I get it. This isn't a crazy busy place and the food isn't complicated - it's just more poorly staffed now. Obviously, something pretty lame has happened upstairs. Shame on the Laughing Planet management for pulling such an awful move. You've really hurt this location. With Falling Sky moving in next door, you better hope they don't try too hard to compete with your business, or I fear you'll be toast. What a sad story. read more

I'm doing it... 5 stars for a hippie burrito joint! For some reason I choose this place for my birthday dinner over my favorite fine dining. Damn, that hit the spot. The Soylent Green was just about the best thing ever... chard, broccoli, barley, beets (am I turning you on yet?), with tasty tempeh and a delish pesto to dump over the top. It might not sound exciting, but really it was just as good, if not better than any kind of expensive salad you'd get at a fancy place. The burritos were solid, super tasty and flavorful and some of the only burritos I haven't need to dump hot sauce all over. The Che Guevara remains my favorite. Great beer selection, a tasty cherry cider, a nice music selection and the place was toasty warm. read more

This is a great place if you're looking for healthy, organic and fresh dishes. I had the BBQ chicken quesadillas and the caesar chavez. The pico de gallo and the spicy BBQ sauce added a lot of flavors to the quesadillas. I love caesar salad so I thought I'd try the vegetarian take of it. The flavors were really different; I prefer the original caesar salad. The next time I am there, I would definitely order the quesadillas again but would skip the caesar chavez. read more

Laughing Planet is our go to place in Eugene. We eat here for many reasons: 1. It's kid friendly. They have a REAL kids menu with options to make the pickiest kid happy, toy dinosaurs on all the tables, plenty of high chairs, and no one cares if your kid is being loud. 2. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, including dairy free sour cream & cheese, soymilk to drink, etc. 3. Good ingredients. Corn tortilla chips that are non-GMO, local fruits & vegetables, free range chicken, organic tofu & tempeh, available whole wheat tortillas, etc (I think they might use some organic vegetables, like spinach, but I'm not 100% sure on that one). 4. Lots of variety, quirky ingredients, and weekly specials. 5. Everyone in the family can find something they like to eat on the menu. 6. The prices are good given their commitment to quality, local, sustainable ingredients. Some of my favorite menu items are the Spinach & Black Bean Burrito, the Cuban Bowl, the Spanky's Bowl, and the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. The BBQ sauce is made by the restaurant and is to die for. The green salsa is mild enough for my toddlers to eat on their chips. My husband really likes the Grilled Chicken Burrito. The smoothies are excellent. It's consistently good and the staff is consistently friendly. What can I say? We love it! Oh, and by the way (in response to a previous review), it's not supposed to be Mexican, it's not bland, we Eugenians like the whole hippie thing, and most of the people I see eating in there (including my family) are just regular, run of the mill people. read more

The dining area is nothing special; it has a hippie, Eugene-y vibe, but it's essentially one step up from a standard fast-food environment. The menu, however, is great! Quesadillas, burritos, salads, bowls . . . lots of choices, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, and all for truly reasonable prices. Oh, and there's beer! laughing planet was a pleasant surprise. i'd recommend the burritos. they're full of delicious whole pinto beans, great cheese, brown rice, and pico de gallo. a whole-wheat tortilla can be substituted for no charge. you choose your hot sauce (mild tomatillo, medium chipotle, or super-hot habanero... see photo) and it comes on the side. i decided to go with the habanero and it was so hot! good, but almost too hot. it is a great place if you're broke. the bean & cheese burrito is only $4.25. though if, like me, you make it a deluxe (adding guacamole and sour cream), it's $2.25 more. read more

Laughing planet accommodates every fussy diet I've ever encountered. And feeds us traditional omnivores well too. Don't subject yourself to another lecture about why you should or shouldn't be eating this or that. But still make sure your friends eat. Eating friends are good friends.
