amazing place to get a smoothie/food & sit down to work/hang out. GREAT FOOD! and an amazing smoothie. wish it was a bit larger for the price but it was so lovely. i finished my whole bowl, ladies at the desk were amazing & brought food out to my table. easy connect wifi, they were playing some awesome vietnam era music LOL it was a vibe. great place to sit outside or inside with AC and enjoy the atmosphere!

I probably wouldn't opt for many things on the menu here, but did stop in for the Thai Burrito, which is a Snack Size Burrito with some nice flavors and no protein. Good for a pinch and was ready pretty quickly.

    BBQ Chicken Quesadilla

I ordered a BBQ chicken quesadilla for lunch. There was almost no chicken on this. See photo. They should be embarrassed to serve this type of low quality food.

Loooooved this spot!!!! I needed a healthy food break after eating my way through Portland and we just happened to walk by this spot. I was worried because there was not a soul in side LOL. Usually that's a bad sign for a food spot...but no no. This place was delicious! Excellent service, since I had never been here, I had a bunch of questions. The person who helped me was super nice and answered all my annoying menu questions with ease. She really helped me pick out what I wanted. Their menu is actually pretty big, lots of great options! I went with the Kale salad. I think it had a cooler name but I can't remember lol. It was super fresh and tasty! Loved all the added ingredients, it was just a well thought out salad compilation. My veggie quesadilla was pretty good too. I think it had portobello mushrooms in it which are my fav. So, wins all around! Great spot!

Fresh, clean, healthy and yum! I have always loved laughing planet for a tasty nutritious and fulfilling meal. The service is great - always very nice and friendly. This location is new and isn't busy and the murals inside are adorable. Food came out super fast. It's got a fun ambience that's good for kids. Price is about $15 per person, & you'll leave satisfied. I wouldn't say that it's "omfg" delicious but I often crave it and it's healthy and yummy for me, plus lots of vegan options. I love how colorful the food and whole restaurant experience is.

Clearly in the description says melted aged cheddar, but I need to say queso and chips or I'm completely wrong. Or I'm given unmelted cheese

Her name: Audrey by the way- pink hair braces- horrible attitude- I have been coming here for more than three years since I live three blocks away order the same thing people know me by name -ordered a take out like I always do-I said may I have a quesadilla and I ordered a small side of chips with a small side of melted aged cheddar dip which is on their menu, -and asked the cashier to repeat it back. It was the same price as it always has been for the last three years I went and picked it up walked home opened the bag. There was no cheese in a white bowl-so I walked back and said my order was mistaken. She said cheese is in the box with the quesadilla. I said sorry about that. I've never seen it in the box so I walk home AND I also I tipped again. I open the box. It is a small plastic container the same used for small salas but with regular cheese off a block cut into15 small slices- cold - I get in my car and drive back. I shown her and she snarks you need to specify and say queso & to which I said I ordered directly off your menu! she goes back-and-forth - I ask may I have your name? She says no I'm not obligated to give it to you. So I clearly knew where this was going -I didn't want an apology. I would of even apologized for not saying it how she wants-but then she says if you want your order right you have to say queso when it says aged melted cheddar and I get unmelted cheese that is not melted & would cost $.75 so not only is my order not match up- but both times I came isitting there so not only and with both encounters but then when I asked for a name and she said I'm not obligated to - because I said I don't feel that I was wrong ordering off your menu- she said our phone cuts and I said I had the representative repeat it back to me . . I enjoy going there even tip 30% on each of my orders an! This is what I received- keep in mind I ordered a small melted aged cheddar cheese with a side of small chips- and an amazing grace burrito which cost 10.00 dollars and added TEMPEH for 3.50 - I payed 18.50- and again a small aged melted cheddar cheese with chips cost 7.50- but she said the serving small size container where they put salas with cold chopped up block cheese cost the same when it's not even on the menu- hard to believe- when the cheese is not even melted! truly she did not like me saying that she messed up because apparently I need to order the way that she Says or I won't get the right food even though she could possibly look at the receipt maybe one of the three times I came in and seen that the price didn't match up when I hand you a $20 bill and you give me a quesadilla and if you would just read the receipt instead of taking the tip but I mean that's a lot to ask... what really was weird. She said the back even agreed that I ordered something. That's not even on the menu. There is no side of cut up cheese. She doesn't have to have any customer service skills, not giving her out is so random to say to a regular-just screams I know I messed up. IF she would've been polite. I would've apologized I will start ordering it as queso. I don't think that a salsa side the size of an inch and a half with 16 small strands of cold cheese would cost seven dollars and then to act like I'm offending her by calmly being polite and asking for her name which is Audrey at the location of 21st NW. Portland. I will never return and I will tell everyone I can that they allow their customers to be treated like that because you have a I'd imagine from the behavior a teenager in the front texting( all three times I came in - yes check your cameras ) like I interrupted her when I originally picked up my order, didn't know what I ordered. did I come back? Didn't check again may have seen the prices don't match up And I've been going three years so if I made a mistake, sure I should've opened the box when she said it was inside I can take that and I will say sorry but i trusted her word my fault agreed- but when this person is trying to argue with you because they're upset about something or their job which I can understand I'm human and literally tipping you when i don't even buy things and then Finally receive a 30% filled cup of cheese and said "this is all we have when it gets late" it was 8 o'clock they close at 10pm I said OK (luckily the homeless woman that was there. I gave her five dollars which Audrey did not want to even open the register to give me change for my the woman after let alone her name of speak volumes of the person I am horrible customer service I'm giving someone else money because it's cold and they're hungry. But she didn't open the register. These are the people that are at the front of your store. I had a recommend do not go to this location. Hopefully locations have more professional people that I don't know. Look at the receipt if someone gets chips and says melted cheddar cheese I don't want cold, chopped up one side, unmelted cheese. horrible needs to be fired.

Its more like 3.5 stars as it's not a very fancy place but decent one Food was very tasty, we only had crispy quesadilla and veggie burrito, both were good size and tasty. Service was good, and place was nice, very close to NW23RD st. There was outdoor seating too.

Very tasty pork tacos... not even salty at all which i love! I shoulda ordered two... Also tried the grilled chicken burrito with beans, brown rice with bbq sauce... it was tasty and again, love that their items are not salty! Excellent service!

A great place to get some healthier eats at a reasonable price. I tried the grilled chicken burrito this time and was pleased with it. The portion size was good and the chicken had good flavor (wasn't dry). It was a plus to have some extra Pico and hot sauce for that extra kick. The staff was also friendly and accommodating when taking the order.

Piece if plastic possibly from a washing tool in my kale salad.
    Tauna M.

Quality has eroded since august. I've called and reported to management each time. The attached photo shows a piece of hard black plastic that was in my kale salad from a couple of days ago. I'm going to try a different location because this is the 2nd time I've discovered plastic in my salad from the Hollywood location.

    Crystal M.

This was my third visit to Portland, and although I don't have plans to return I might consider it to have this place again! The food was absolutely delicious. Vegan and non vegan options. Truly nothing in my dish that I could complain about, it was perfect. There are just some restaurants you wish you could take back home with you and this is one of them.

This place is built for volume. You can tell. Efficient layout. Assembly-line potential. If bowls were a factory sport, this would be a playoff team. Ordered the Home Grown. everytime i have carioca bowls, i fall in love with portland even more. the quintessential açai…read morebowl is done with such craft and intentionality here that i can unequivocally say this is the best spot for an açai bowl -- at least in the states and that i know of; though someday i will have to go on an adventure to Brazil, which is where carioca stems from. the açai here is not the sugary type but the real stuff. high quality, fresh ingredients, too. my go-to is the rose city bowl (rio açai, honey mamas chocolate pieces (!!!!!!!), raspberries, banana, cinnamon maca, granola). yum yum! speaking of which, for this gluten free and mostly plant-based human, can we talk about the brazilian bites?!? do yourself a favor and splurge if you can -- one will not be enough. the perfect balance between pillowy and chewy textured with the (in the case of the vegan) vegan cheese ahhhh i've developed a Pavlovian response where i'm salivating. logistics -- street side parking and a cozy seating area with some brazilian beats that define the acoustic ambiance. online ordering is a thing! all in all, food for the soul, friendly folks, and an array of bowls (cold and warm) and smoothies and a breakfast sandwich and avocado toast make this the perfect place for post-workout recovery or in general, a pick-me-up, which is something we all need in today's hustle and bustle. thank you, carioca! i still miss your slabtown spot where i first found you, but i'll happily make the trek!

Ya know, it's weird that this has been in my drafts for forever. But I like this place. I like that…read morethey were down with the açaí bowl situation before it was cool (or at least, before it became de rigeur and/or spread to the damp and drippy PNW). I started chowing down on smoothie bowls in sunny southern California and the majorest of major metros like Manhattan, and it seems like it took forever for the "trend" to spread to our rainy neck of the woods. One could certainly get wheatgrass shots every which where, but smoothie bowls, not so much. ANYWAY, Carioca Bowls was leading the vanguard of delish and genuine açaí bowls in PDX long before it was an expected food variety in all hippie-ish towns in the US. Their bowls meet my exacting ingredient standards: Now that smoothie bowls have gone mainstream, many are just lightly disguised dessert with "health food" marketing: Hidden sweeteners and grody additives pushed on the unsuspecting hoi polloi ruin it for people who don't do their homework. But not Carioca Bowls: You can ACTUALLY get an unsweetened açaí bowl if that's your jam (it's mine: If I wanted dessert, I'd get a cupcake), and they don't drown the top in honey (honey has its place, and that place is far away from me), and drink in the extremely second-wave granola vibes while you're at it. Third-wave hippie food, like third-wave coffee shops, have suffered a loss of soul: Minimalist design, LED lighting, and cookie-cutter staff with vaseline smiles beckoning "welcome in!" with vacant looks in their eyes have sapped a lot of the joy from the spaces serving hippie food and matcha tea. Carioca Bowls remains a comfortingly messy, quirky callback to sincerity: Murals, houseplants, low lighting, a big messy garden-y space outdoors for sitting and chowing, organic unfussy aesthetics that make the whole scene just feel welcoming and comfy. You can eat your bowl here and not feel like you're a nuisance to the staff, or like there's a glaring spotlight on you (unlike SOME smoothie/juice/bowl places I could mention). Nary a whiff of extruded white plastic ANYWHERE in this place. It makes me feel at home, the way a wheatgrass-sniffin', long-hair-havin', big-hug-givin' hippie should feel. When I walk through the door, I feel RELAXED, ya know what I mean? Anyway, give it a try - this isn't my 'hood but I will still occasionally make a pilgrimage just to get a bowl and drink in the vibes. So if I were writing a Michelin guide (buy those tires!) I suppose I'd give this at least a star, as it's worth a special trip (IF you're into what I've described here - it's highly specific, but it's MY vibe). Anyway, long live Carioca Bowls!

Proud Mary in NE Alberta St, Portland…read more I was excited to come back home to Portland and hit up all my favorite spots in this week but I had to choose carefully because I wasn't taking on the Portland food scene alone, I'm bringing a friend with me who has never been to the city at all. I needed to set the bar high from day one. Proud Mary on Alberta Street was my first move, and it provided a light but delicious first meal paired with great espresso drinks. (And I needed to set the bar high for coffee in town because this friend own her own coffee shop in LA) This is the kind of place I bring people to when I want to show off what this city does best a casual environment with interesting food that doesn't take itself too seriously, in a space that just feels right. I went with the oatmeal and a side of hash, (a hash that has such a unique texture that I think about it pretty often now I love a unique potato eperince) but execution of the seasonal flavors in the oatmeal surprise me every time in the best way. They pay so much attention to detail of he flavor and presentation and that makes even humble dishes feel more special. My friend ordered the spring omelette and it was simple, it could have used a bit more flavor or texture or even an additional protien source but it was good non the less. When our cappuccinos arrived first, I remembered this is an Australian-owned café. Served with a dusting of chocolate powder the way an "apparently" proper Aussie capp should be. Both cups were genuinely excellent. For vegetarians, the menu gives you real options with actual thought behind them and of course their are so many dishes with meat that everyone can love, so that's a huge win for me Who it's for: first-time Portland visitors, coffee lovers, anyone who wants a brunch spot that earns its reputation. Strong start to any trip. Veg selection | Flavor execution | Value | Staff knowledge | Ambiance
