This place has good food. I always get their veggie quesadilla, their specialty bowls, or green salad with quinoa. It's pretty disappointing though because every single time I come here or the the other location in Midtown Reno, they mess up our order. Trey either forget to tell us they are out of something, they forget the avocado or quinoa or extras we ordered. For example, the latest order was a veggie quesadilla with extra Cheese and it had barely any cheese for a normal quesadilla and there was only some veggies in the middle of the quesadilla and the green sauce (which is amazing) should be everywhere throughout and there were two bites in the whole thing that had it. Usually when I get the salad they forget something on it. Love the food but never is a smooth time. read more

I have been here many times and had very good meals, so I recommended it to friends and four of us ordered lunch from here yesterday. All four meals were poor, with one almost inedible. Three ordered the Korean bowl and it not only lacked flavor, there really was nothing about the bowl to qualify it as Korean. One of the bowls had a clump of meat in the middle that was 75%fat, with three humongous broccoli stalks in it. Well, given only a plastic fork in to to-go bag made getting through the broccoli impossible and there was almost no meat available. I had the Bollywood bowl with two large inedible broccoli stalks. Mine was barely decent, so disappointing with its almost complete lack of flavor. This used to be an automatic stop when coming to Reno, and I ententes here often when I lived here. A great lunch place on the south side of campus! Not "college student cheap" but definitely affordable for something healthy and quick. There is seating both up and downstairs and has a casual atmosphere. The bowls are great and so are the burritos. I'd recommend the Korean BQQ bowl and the paleo bowl. The grilled chicken burrito and quesadilla are both good and quite filling. Get them both Deluxe (w/ sour cream and guac)! Drink wise, there are several beers on tap and other non alcoholic options like lemonade, tea, soda, and more, but I would try their smoothies. All are good but my favorite is the Peach Berry Chia, and if you like peanut butter try the PB&J! Finally, for dessert, try the chocolate chip cookie with sea salt! read more

This was my first visit to the Laughing Planet Cafe on Virginia. My husband and I had an impromptu lunch date and decided to stay close. Now, I have to admit we really like the original Laughing Planet, so we had high expectations for this location. However, I am happy to say that they held up to them! First, I love the decor! Love that I can sit downstairs or go upstairs. To me seems like plenty of seating! Secondly, the staff were super friendly and service was great. We ordered quickly, they answered all our questions without hesitation or annoyance of how long it took me to order. =o) Our starter (we always get) of guacamole and chips came quickly and was just as fabulous as always. My obsession with the Thai Bowl is boarder line unhealthy. Jk, it's very healthy! The Thai bowl is a medley of veggies (broccoli, green beans and a cabbage/carrot mix) and tofu, served on top of rice with a peanut sauce on top. Though if you're obsessed with condiments like I am, I recommend asking for an extra side of sauce. They never charge for it, and then I can make my Bowl as saucy as I want! One of the most convenient things about this place is that they have the ability to order online. I have been here a few time to pick up take out on my way home from class and have been pleased each time so far. We each got a Havest bowl which is loaded with veggie, tempeh (could use a little more), quinoa and their killer green sauce that has a bit of kick. We also got two cups of soup, chipotle tomato and corn as well as, cauliflower and chickpea. Each were very tasty and completed our Harvest bowls nicely. This place was a LIFE SAVER. My partner and I got stuck in Reno halfway through a road trip from Texas to Washington and after days of feeling like nothing was going right for us we got a little bit of sunshine with this place. I love coming here for a healthy option when I don't have a prepare lunch on a workday. My go-to is the comfort bowl without the cilantro topping and just the tomato and onion of the pico de gallo. They make everything fresh so expect a bit of a wait whether you've ordered to-go or dine in. The food is vegetarian and eco friendly here so meat eaters be aware. They also have great options for gluten free and paleo diets. There are beer and cider options if you're craving a cold beverage with your meal, as well. Service is okay. Nothing to write home about but they're courteous as they rush around delivering all of the orders. It's rare that I come in here and have less than a 3-5 minute before ordering at the counter. It was a pile of overly sweet and vinegary slaw on top of a smidge of meat and rice, surrounded by sad raw broccoli. The "spicy Korean sauce" was not spicy or Korean. The dish was inedible. First of all Grub Hub had to turn around and go back because they gave him the wrong order. He got here to deliver my food and my vegan burrito was so dry. I paid for the extra vegan sour cream and guacamole. Ruined my whole appetite. If you're looking for vegan options don't go to this place. Go to Great Full Gardens. Then when I call back to let them know, the dude on the phone tried to be a smart ass and say "The sour cream and guacamole are dry?" I said "NO, there wasn't any in there that I paid for. I do not recommend this place if you are Mexican or Latino I drove 15 mins from work to get to this place because the menu looks good in the website, so I placed my order and waited 30 mins for my order only to realized that they never made it, I saw a lot of Caucasian customers placing their order and they all got their orders in less than 10 mins after placing it ... I was just observing from the second floor and wondering how much time they need to make a harvest bowl? How good was it going to taste if they were taking long time in the making? But because I only had 30 mins of lunch and I actually put personal time at work of 30 mins to drive there and back, I went back down to the register and asked for a refund from my order because I literally didn't have any more time to wait for my order, the person at the register asked me to wait five more minutes so they could make my order and that just make me more Upset, because I wasted my lunch time waiting for an order that could of be made in 5 mins! At this point I just wanted to drive back to work and forget this place, I felt out of place because I was the only Mexican person at this locations and felt discriminated specially when I asked for my money back. We found this place is very hard to find it's on a street which has no street sign, the parking is ok enough for what they need. We came here looking for a healthy yet tasty option, found the menu hung up to be limited and almost walked out as we wanted some chicken for protein at least. As we were about to walk out the lady informed us the actual menu is in a pamphlet. After looking it over we found it interesting an decided to give it a shot. We got the hatch Chile naked bowl in and the bubba burrito; we also added green chillies and made it a deluxe which adds avocado for 2.50$ more (a bit pricey for slices of avocado, not even guacamole mixture, in my opinion) anyway took a good 20 minutes to get our order even though there were only a few people inside. We first stumbled upon Laughing Planet on a trip to Portland a few years ago. As we were sitting in the restaurant in the Pearl district we looked for other locations and saw that Reno was on the map! So far all of the locations we have been to are teeming with hipsters. I guess that means we might be also... Been to the Tahoe St. Location and wanted to check out the digs on the UNR spot. Happened to get a parking space right in front and walked right in. Quickly greeted by the girl behind the counter and was handed menus and took our order. We opted for the Paleo Bowl and a Chicken Burrito for lunch. Both were fresh, hot and flavorful. Also had a berry smoothie and some agua Fresca. Again really good and flavorful with accents for different berries and such. The overall vibe fits the campus lifestyle and if you are a student, the parking issue will be of little consequence walking from class or riding a bike. I enjoy seeing pieces of art and items I recognize from Deux Gros Nez. Takes me back to high school yammering on about meaningless stuff with friends until the wee hours of the night. They did a great job repurposing the building. The crowd is mainly college students looking for healthy options for grub. The restrooms and dining area seemed to be clean, but did not see any cleaning going on since you bus your own dishes. While we were here, it was reasonably quiet, but imagine it can get pretty loud inside. This has 'college crowd' written all over it. Laughing Planet is quirky, funky, and delicious, and you cannot help but walk out the door with a smile on your face after hanging out here for a bit. The food has a major emphasis on healthy eating. It is vegetable-heavy with lots of organic products, and as much house-made ingredients as they can muster. You can find sandwiches, wraps, bowls, platters, and other familiar serving options. But don't let the list of weird grains or veggies make you hesitate, as most everything here is very, very tasty. The Thai Bowl is a constant favorite of mine, with fried tofu over brown rice and delicious Thai cole slaw. You can also check out their rotating specials, such as today with their Lebanese Burrito loaded with spiced chicken, lentils, and yogurt sauce. As far as beverages go, they have some great house-made iced teas, and a selection of kombuchas, too. But for my money, I go with one of the various local beers they have on tap. And speaking of money, I do have to say the prices are pretty decent, though not exactly what you'd call a cheap lunch either, but you get really good quality for the price. This was the second location opened in Reno, and they did an amazing job fixing up this old house right across from campus. The seating arrangements are plentiful, and the entire building looks amazing, with cool decor, potted plants, and historic photos festooning the walls and tables. I love the upstairs lounge, but you also can't go wrong with their lovely outdoor patio. The entire place has a great energy to it, and you just feel at home when you plunk down at your seat. The service has also been very courteous and prompt, with orders coming up fairly quick even during lunch rushes. Parking is usually pretty easy, but can get a bit tricky during the semesters, so you are better just walking or biking over. I love that there is more food joints like this popping up in Reno, showing that this sort of grub doesn't have to be bland or joyless, but can be really tempting for even us carnivores to enjoy. read more
