Used to like this place, but after last weekend, won't be going back. The two people that ordered the chicken got food poisoning for 3 days. Found hair in the shrimp and in my cocktail, staff did nothing about it. The waitress was very dismissive and staff seems pretentious. Some of the dishes were great, but the dismissiveness and the health concerns aren't worth the price. Tl;dr Get the pastries, skip the pricey brunch. Oof, we had a terrible brunch there. Nothing tasted right and service was decent but certainly not fitting the cost. We didn't have a reservation but arrived early and waited to be seated. We felt lucky to have a coffee/drink order taken, but then it was never delivered. Our server (after we were seated) eventually asked about it and found the orphaned ticket waiting for someone to prepare our coffees. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Next came the food. The pastries were amazing! Focus on them. Seriously, so good, and we ordered most of them. Sadly we didn't feel so positively about the food itself. The pancakes were burnt! 2 people ordered them, all were burnt! My wife said they tasted like burnt popcorn, so there's that if you prefer that taste. I had the Benedict and I love mustard, but the hollandaise was so spicy and mustard-heavy it was almost hard to eat - like I was eating a jar of mustard on my eggs. I cannot believe this is my first time here and I will certainly be going back! I wasn't really hungry so a friend and I shared an appetizer, a main with a side vegetable. To start, we ordered a Burrata and the bread that came with it is one of the best I've ever had. It wasn't unnecessarily dry like most toasted breads that hurt to eat but had the right amount of fluff and flavor to go perfectly with the chase and squash. The Whole Branzino came deboned and was seasoned to perfection with lots of fresh herbs - I didn't even need lime or lemon! For the side, we got the Miso Winter Squash and I don't mean to exaggerate but it was easily the best squash I've ever had. It had a bit of a spicy kick to it and coconut cream dressed on the plate to elevate the flavors if you so choose. I got the 1912 cocktail but I wasn't too impressed. Tucked away in East Austin is the quaint and quirky café, Launderette. Upon first glance of their brunch menu, we spotted several incredible sounding items on the menu that we knew we wanted to try. To share for the table, we ordered two pull apart buns and a pastry of the day (August 18, 2024), which was a delightfully moist matcha tea sponge cake with strawberries. The pull apart buns were served warm, gooey, and oh-so-tasty. The chef also gifted us with an order of zucchini bread which was delightful moist and tasteful, and came with an endlessly plump and creamy slab of butter atop. For our mains, we ordered the asparagus benny and also ordered at our table was the pancakes. The asparagus benny was delicious- the truffle in the hollandaise and the lemon in the asparagus and fresh herbs really shined through in this dish. The pancetta made a delightful addition to go along with the two perfectly poached eggs. The pancakes were the absolute star of the show: served with blueberry maple compote and syrup in the cutest dish I've ever seen, these pancakes were fluffy, moist, and rich in flavor. Also gifted by the chef came an order of potato latkes which were incredible. Crisp and well-seasoned, the latkes paired perfectly with the dipping sauces. Launderette was a delightful meal and a wonderful experience. We can't wait to go back for more!!! read more

I went to Launderette for the first time while in Austin visiting family and it was by far the best meal of my trip. There were veggie options aplenty, and everything tasted as amazing as it looked. We ordered: Burrata - I always love a good burrata and this was no exception including the delicious bread it came with. Beet Hummus with Everything Crackers - I love beets, but sometimes the flavor can be overpowering, but not so here. The mix of different flavors worked perfectly, and I loved the crackers it comes with to soak up the yum. Sticky Brussel Sprouts - They kindly put the Apple Bacon Marmalade on the side to make this vegetarian. It was so good without the bacon, I honestly can't imagine it needing anything else to taste better. Zucchini - My friend and I were blown away by this dish. I was a little on the fence about ordering it because I usually think of zucchini as bland and boring, but this was anything but. Such delicious flavor combinations that make every single selection amazing. Beet hummus sounds pretty straightforward but it's not at all what you expect. From the Brunch menu, we ordered Frites, Plancha Burger, English Muffin, a side of mushrooms, Latte and a Mimosa. Frites ($6) - Whenever there are fries on the menu, I have to order it and I'm so glad I did. They were amazing, probably some of the best fries I've had for a while. I was seriously considering getting some to go. The manzano sauce and garlic aioli were both good too. Plancha Burger ($14) - I got the Plancha Burger and forgot to say no cheese, but all good. It was delicious, even with the cheese which was melting and the beef was just right - perfect. The mushrooms were tasty and the special sauce on the side was super yum too. English Muffin Sammie ($14) - I had a bite of this and it was good too, but not as good as my burger :) Mimosa ($7) & Latte ($4) - Mimosa was good, I didn't have the latte but my husband enjoyed it. Quantity 3/5 - Portions are on the smaller side. Ambience 4/5 - Casual and cozy. There's a patio as well but it was freezing so chose to sit in. Service 4/5 - Service was decent, our server changed half way and an item was missed but other than that was good. Taste - 5/5 - Super yum, fresh and tasty food. Everything was on point for us. First time at this restaurant and it was so simple but the flavors were all there, so good. Starting with a margarita, we had the fried shrimp, to my tasting the batter was a little salty but it tasted fresh. We also had the strip bass crudo, and it was delicious, a little spicy but I loved it ( I love spicy food) it tasted so fresh and very summery. We shared the burger, which was ok, too plain for me, the pork ribs were very good, cooked on point and with lots of mint which was a little overpowering for me and last but not least the garganelli, very nice and creamy flavor, the sausage was very good, not too strong which I liked. The atmosphere was a hip Austin vibe but they had run out of the pancakes and the lunch menu is very limited. Everything was just okay. The price to me didn't match the dishes we ordered. Customer service was ok. We arrived 15 min early and was asked to wait in waiting area and a server would come to us for drinks.. no one arrived and our bloody Mary's took forever to arrive. The Launderette checks the box for vibey restaurant with tasty food. It's recommended to share the food family style so we got Tortellini, roasted okra, and charred octopus. The okra and octopus were our favorites by far. While the tortellini was good, I'd say the price coming out to $5 per tortellini is a little excessive! I'm usually a sucker for pasta dishes, but you can skip that one unless you like the idea of cutting them into as small of pieces as possible to make it last longer. The restaurant was very clean, but packs everyone in very close together so be prepared to make friends with your neighbor. Overall, it was a fun experience with some expensive, small plates, but that's what you get when you want a hipster restaurant these days. I visited Launderette back in April of 2018 for my birthday dinner while visiting Austin. Reservation was easy to make using Resy. There was no parking available in their lot at that time so we just parked on the street behind the restaurant and walked over. The place has a very cool retro-chic feel and the surrounding neighborhood mostly residential. Which isn't too odd considering this place is a converted neighborhood Laundromat after all. What we ordered: 1. Potato Chips - pimento cheese 2. Oyster Mushroom Toast (I no longer see this on their current online menu) 3. Whole Branzino - sliced almond, preserved lemon, herbs (because of this fish dish I started eating sea bass more places but nothing compares, this was well seasoned/cooked, totally recommend) 4. Brick Chicken - sauce aligot, braised greens (everything about this chicken is amazing, I wanted to come back for a second day just for this even though we didn't have time to do so. The skin was perfection) 5. Birthday Cake Ice Cream Sandwich (I came here specifically for this dessert because of the occasion but the "cake" was too hard due to the cold ice cream. It was hard to cut and eat, that made the experience of it all less enjoyable. It is cute though) 6. Tried launderette several times since they opened and most recently last week. Their food is completely out of balance in my opinion. Everything is over flavored and over salted, a cacophony of cultural fusions lacking in refreshing elements. If you understand yin and yang, their food is Yang to the extreme, leaving you craving a yin element so desperately that sure you'll have another cocktail. Their most glaring problem is the burger which hasn't changed since opening. It's ground with pork inside the patty, disabling a nice medium rare for food safety reasons, and just so so salty. The entire burger dish like one thing, super salty meat, and it's not good. The crab toast, which I have enjoyed on past visits, has become a goopy, overly fatty, soggy, unsatisfying mess, again without sufficient refreshment or brightness, yet another yang salt bomb. Whoever is in charge of QC is either not tasting the food, or eats hot Cheetos for meals and is just used to this level of flavor. Sorry not sorry. read more

The potato gnocchi and brick chicken were incredible! I hate mushrooms, but I tried one with my dish, and it was delicious. I dropped by after a long Monday where this quaint little hideaway on Holly resides amongst a great corner lot surrounded by some amazing trees. We sat at the bar and had some wonderful cocktails during Happy Hour which deeply discounts them. So if you are looking to try without hurting the wallet then HH is the best time. All their drinks were on point; Old fashion, Margarita, and their Negroni are unique spins on the classics here. My comment is the portion seemed a bit more ice than beverage but it may have been priced appropriate. We ordered some "snacky things" (pierogis, and fried shrimp). Both were great although the pierogis seemed more like an Italian dish of pasta to me. The frites here are fantabulous! Get them! They reminded me of the ones I had on a recent trip to Brussels. Hanger Steak was solid - the side not so much but it wasn't awful or inedible- just not my thing. Cavatappi was amazing and I'd have eaten it if my wife didn't tell me to stop. Oh my goodness. Launderette totally blew my expectations out of the water. I was only in Austin for a day and a half and almost skipped over this place. I'm so glad I didn't but I had to come right when they opened at 5pm for dinner on Saturday. I came for dinner because of one thing: their birthday cake ice cream sandwich! These aren't available for brunch or lunch, so consider yourselves warned! I checked Resy but there were no available reservations. They noted that they do keep a portion of the dining room available for walk-ins so that is what I did. It did fill up pretty fast, but there were still some tables left for grabs. My boyfriend and I were going to a wedding reception after giving this place a try so we decided to get snacks: Brussel sprouts, plancha burger, and the birthday cake ice cream sandwich. The plancha burger which had a beef and bacon patty was phenomenal. So phenomenal that we got ANOTHER one. We were so full, but that burger is worth every bit of my money and stomach room. I thought this restaurant was just average. There were some hits and misses, but I really enjoyed the ambiance and the service was out of this world! The location is also slightly inconvenient because it is quite far from the heart of downtown, and we for some reason decided to walk all the way over in the sweltering heat, but the dessert was worth it!! (I will get to that later) The neon sign makes the restaurant easy to spot. We didn't have to make a reservation and there were plenty of spots available. Our server, Nicole, was super nice and flexible about letting us switching tables (the ones against the windows on your right hand side when you enter are blasted with A/C and we were not the only ones who noticed!). We ordered the Brussels, fries, and the crispy shrimp. I loved the shrimp--the sauces were great and they were definitely crispy! We did notice the popularity of the Brussels on yelp, but I thought the taste was a little too sweet and thick. The dish, overall, was just too "sauce-y" up to the point where it was overwhelming. And the fries were normal so if you are craving some potatoes, you can't go wrong with the fries! The best part of the meal, however, was their delicious sweet corn cake topped with a blueberry lavender ice cream! Man o man was that cake delicious: it was smooth, not too sweet, and the ice cream on top was both refreshing and creamy. I can't even describe how great the dessert it. If you only stop by Launderette to order their desserts, it would still be worth it. Overall, I personally think their desserts are better than their main dishes. First time here and we all had a blast for Sunday brunch, enjoying those frites aka fries with 2 different dips one of which was spicy and the other was not. A plate of bacon for the table, of course. A large cinnamon roll for the youngins and man child and a plate of blueberry pancakes again for the toddler and broken up for the baby but man child couldn't help but get tickled silly pouring the syrup out of the ceramic kitty's paw. We had the brick chicken, Brussels sprouts, burger, and shared a nosh nosh plate. The food was all quite tasty. The Brussels were probably the best thing we ordered. They also have a pretty great happy hour and half price bottles of wine on Monday. If you are looking for a nice place to eat in East Austin, this will fit the bill. I was surprised by how good the food was but a little disappointed by how small the portions were. While it is more on the pricy side, if you go for happy the prices are fantastic for some of the best food and drinks in town. The dishes I was served were so unique and flavorful.
