*RMDG & Dr Joe is the Way to Go*…read more First impressions are often lasting...and so is the 2nd & 3rd... Called to find out some "new patient info" because I needed a new Dentist, after seeing the same DDS in Beverly Hills for 20 years. Spoke with Tanya. She answered all my questions and concerns. She was extremely patient and understanding -- especially when I shared an experience with her about a Dentist in Palm Desert, who was so rude & discourteous, I walked out of his office, less than 2 minutes after meeting him. Tanya suggested we schedule an initial consult with Dr Joe to meet him, then decide if he & RMDG would be the right fit. One week later, I stepped into a very friendly & professional office and warmly greeted by Tanya, Alana and Crystal. What an impressive beginning. BTW I received texts & email reminders about all my upcoming appointments. Right away they made me feel comfortable as if I were a returning patient. The AC room temperature throughout the entire office was perfecto on a scorching hot summer day. As I patiently sat in their light & bright, tastefully furnished waiting area, Dr Joe walked in to introduce himself, then asked me to come back into his office so we can talk. Since I like to read new Doctors bios prior to my first office visit, I knew where Dr Joe was from, what sports and teams he loves, so I began our conversation with some sports talk -- always a perfect icebreaker for sports enthusiasts such as us. Before we shifted our talk to "dental work" I knew Dr Joe & RMDC was the right place for me. After discussing my Dental history with Dr Joe (I had previously emailed his staff my recent dental records) I agreed to proceed with new dental x-rays & imaging and an exam with the tech team. All their equipment is state-of-the-art and very impressive. I've never had X rays and other imagining done so fast and so effortlessly at my regular dentist's office. They even took my BP -- 1st time I've encountered this at any dental office -- in case you're curious? My BP is good :) I also received after-visit summaries on my patient portal. Another first for a dental office. The two hygienist who examined my gums & teeth were friendly and professional. And documented my measurements swiftly and accurately. Afterwards, Dr Joe came back to discuss all the results with me, which was nothing I didn't already know and no surprises. Then we discussed future treatment -- simply dental cleanings. The following week I came back to see the hygienist. I'd love to share her name, but I've learned the hard way not to brag because it'll only make it harder for me to book future appointments ;) Let's just say, she is very thorough yet gentle and simply amazing. And I've already scheduled my next cleaning with her. RMDG is so awesome, my wife followed my lead the following week, and had the identical perfect results and experiences. She was paired with Dr Cabanas. And the same hygienist as me. Full disclosure: wifey was even more apprehensive as me because she's been seeing the same Dentist back in Santa Monica for 15 years. He said I could have a stroke & tooth must be pulled immediately. I saw red flags & got out of there. I was quite upset & then went to a well known reputable private dentist who upon examination found NO signs of infection & said have excellent dental health. After taking X-rays, they told me I did have an abscessed tooth. This is something I pretty much had diagnosed already. I was looking for treatment! They told me all they could do is prescribe some antibiotics and refer me out. I was surprised to learn they didn't do simple work such as replacing a crown or a root canal. Every dental practice I ever went to, this type of dental care was their bread and butter. If I had known they did not do this in-house, I would have never gone here. Why, because I now am at the mercy their referral. A dental practice I did not choose. I was referred out to Synergy Endodontics. I had to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment with them. I visited them on July 5th. Again, I had more X-rays. Again I was told it was an abscessed tooth. The dentist told me he would have to study my X-rays further to explore treatment options. He told me he would let me know these options in a day or two. The date is now July 30th and I have had no follow-up from either Mountainside Dental or Synergy Endodontics. My abscessed tooth continues to give me pain and headaches. I foolishly wasted precious time thinking that either one of the so called "dental care" professionals would followup. Now I have to start from scratch with even worse pain. Of course both businesses wasted no time billing my insurance. If they would spend the same energy on patient care, I would be posting a more positive review; which are the reviews I prefer writing. In the world of dental care, there are plenty of options. Highly recommend you explore other options than either one of these practices. Bottom line: Avoid!!!

The office doesn't look like a typical dentist office: it's located in a poorly maintained 1960s building that was clearly built for some other purpose. Instead of the usual bland or soothing music, they were playing a rock radio station with at least one political commercial that would have caused me to change stations, if I could have. (Maybe not the right environment, if going to a dentist makes you anxious.) Office was decorated almost exclusively with covers from those advertising magazines you get in the mail proclaiming "Best Dentists in Coachella Valley!" They charged me for services I didn't ask for, and they didn't explain why they were necessary or say it wouldn't be covered by insurance; specifically, they asked for $25 as I was leaving. I thought it was odd, but paid it. When I got the explanation of benefits from by insurance (United Health Care), it said I didn't owe any copay or deductible for the visit. When I called Dr Aguilar's office about it they had an instant answer (as if they're asked all the time); "We took photos [not x-rays] of your teeth and applied fluoride, and that's not covered by insurance." I remember getting these services at my appointment but thought it was odd because no other dentist has ever done that for me. It was an upsell without any selling.

In total, I paid approximately $50,000 for a full-lower dental implants under the assumption that I was receiving high-quality, long-lasting treatment backed by professional integrity and care. However, less that three years after the procedure, the implants have failed not once, but twice. This is completely unacceptable for a procedure of this magnitude and cost. Each time the implants have broken, I have been left not only dealing with the physical pain and inconvenience, but also with an emotional and financial burden that should never have been necessary - especially after paying a premium price for what was supposed to be permanent, top-tier dental work. To make matters worse, when I sought accountablity and assistance from your office regarding these failures, you and your staff have refused to stand by your work.
