I have taken my cars here many times and never had an issue. However, I did not have a good experience my last visit. I needed to get my car inspected so I could renew my tags, and I also had a few other concerns. This was in mid-April. They gave me a whole list of things that needed to be done in order to pass the inspection. They said everything was urgent and could not get it fixed a little at a time cool. I approved the work. One of the things they said I needed was new front brake pads, rotors, and calipers, even though they noted it looked like a had new brake pads, which was true. Okay, whatever. That alone was almost $900. A few weeks later, the first week of May, I'm out with my daughter, and I can not stop my car, brakes all the way down to the ground! Thankfully, I was not going fast, and there were no cars around. I ended up in someone's yard in a small ditch, and thankfully, the homeowners were nice. They were in their yard already. I called the tow truck company to get towed. I told the driver how I had just got new brakes. The driver told me that Laurel Heights probably did not bleed the brakes properly, and air got into the brake line, and from the amount of brake dust on my rims, the brake pads were probably cheap. I called Laurel Heights, and they wanted me to bring the car to them, but my neighbor got them to come get the car from my house while I was at work. I saw on my camera that they drove the car, which I do not understand how. There was some conversation between my neighbor and Laurel Heights. In the end, Laurel Heights said I just needed a hose replaced. They replaced it and brought my car back. I get off work, get my key from my neighbor, and drive the car. They breaks are still going all the way to the floor. It is taking a really long time for the car to stop. Im thinking, let me drive it around the block to maybe get the fluids flowing. I drove straight through the stop sign because the car was still not braking properly. I ended up calling another shop. Had the car towed. $150. Guess what? The other car shop had to flush out the brake line and re-bleed the brakes....which was almost another $400 for them to look at and properly fix the brakes. My car has not been right since I took it to Laurel Heights. It drove better before they did all that work. That could have been a very bad/ tragic situation for me and my daughter!!!!! I will never take my car here again. I paid them, and we could have lost our lives or hurt someone else from the faulty brake job. read more

I took my car in for repairs on suspension parts, and they did a good job. But when I called them back to inquire about doing work to complete the entire process for replacing the Sub-Frame Bushings, the individual I spoke with, said they have a guy call me back, he gave the name, but I can't remember it. No one ever called back. One of the Cardinal sins in business, is to be late in returning calls to customers, or to never even take the time to return calls, and or messages. I figured they don't want the business, or need it enough to show enough courtesy to at least call back, so I decided to just find another garage for the repairs. It's a shame, because I always try to do business in my neighborhood and as close to the surrounding community as possible. read more

THEY CLOSE WHENEVER THEY WANT. They are always closing earlier than the sign says. The open sign will be open and they will hold your keys for a week AFTER you pay them and not answer the phone. I would not recommend this place. They don't leave signs, they don't inform they're customers or call them back. read more

I never thought I'd write a bad review about Laurel Heights Automotive. I'm usually loyal to a fault and once I find a mechanic and/or shop I trust, I go back to them time after time. Laurel Heights may not be the most budget friendly shop in Raytown, but it's always been a place I have trusted with my aging automobiles. Recently I brought my 2018 Ford Escape to their shop to address several concerns going on with car. Running diagnostics, they had a laundry list of issues they needed to address. All in all, the costs were over $900 for the repairs, including the evap valve that I knew had been giving me problems for some time, a sensor, a tune up, and an oil change that I didn't ask for. After paying the bill, I drove across the street to Hyvee, ran in for one item and when I came back out, the car flashed all kinds of warning lights telling me to service immediately. So I drove it back to the shop, again right across the street, and they put it back up on the lift to see what was going on. Turns out, the car had a bad auxiliary water pump (that they changed later on after I left the car in their hands) as well as a failing water pump that was "seeping". This caused me a lot of confusion seeing as I always check for leaks and never noticed anything under the car, but they assured me it would have done it without me even knowing. Apparently the water pump issue showed up on their initial diagnostics, but they didn't look into it, and let me drive off their lot with a car that was basically out of coolant. The mechanic sat down with me and worked hard to convince me that it wasn't their fault that the water pump failed but this issue existed prior to bringing it in. After spending some time researching the issue, turns out this was the main problem and reason for bringing in the car and that the coolant was actually seeping into the engine and mixing with the oil. I'm sure the other repairs were needed, but why not address the main problem? All symptoms pointed to this being a water pump issue, but they didn't even notice the car was completely out of coolant? Additionally, could it be that they had to do the oil change in order to get the car to run right given the amount of coolant that had mixed with the oil? Really appeared to me like they had to intentionally avoid this issue. The way it was explained to me, the water pump could be babied for a while and I'll just have to keep an eye on the coolant levels until I can afford to take it to the dealer (as they don't even work on those?). Turns out this was bad advice, as coolant mixed with oil is very bad for the engine and my $1,000 job could end up costing me $7,000 to get a new engine. Their advice should have been to park the car and not drive it until I get the issue resolved. I think "imminent engine failure" would have made this a more pressing issue, but that's just me. A few weeks later, I brought my 2007 Chrysler van to address an issue with the passenger side wheel bearing that turned out to be a tie-rod issue. The mechanic refused to work on it due to how rusted the car was, I was still charged a diagnostic fee even though it wasn't written up in the computer and as far as I know, he never ran diagnostics, and was told "good luck" and to get a new van as soon as possible. No, I'm not a big client and they have plenty of work to keep them busy (probably why they didn't want to work on my water pump to begin with), but I'm no longer referring friends to use them, and I will be finding a different shop to take my vehicles. read more

In Sept. of 2021 I made an appt. with Justin, the Owner of Laurel Heights to assess why my 2009 Lexus was rocking back and forth, while driving. Justin stated that my car had a serious suspension and struts assembly problem. He said that it would become a safety issue when the inclement weather starts. He then gave me two estimates, one for $9,400.00 using new parts from Lexus dealership and one for $6,700.00 using used quality parts from Rich Foreign Imports. He said that Rich Imports provide a 3 month warranty on their parts. I told Justin, that I did not presently have the money as a Special Education Teacher, but I would try to have it before winter. On November 22, 2021, I had saved up the $6,700.00 to have the repair work done. So I dropped off my car and paid Justin for $4,150.00 for parts from Rich Foreign Imports. On November 24,2021, Justin said the car was ready and charged $1,885.96 for labor. The repair job only lasted two weeks and Justin refused to make it right, after several attempts. I took my car here because I needed someplace close with a good reputation. I was not dissapointed. They promptly diagnosed and fixed the issue that another shop screwed up. The price was very fair. The person that works in the front (sorry I forgot names) was great. He's an excellent communicator that put me at ease. The mechanic even introduced himself and discussed the issue with me. The place had a small town feel that I really liked. They were nice to me and my kid, and I'll definitely be back. read more

Laurel Heights has been serving my family for over 20 years, first my aunt, then my mother when she moved back to Missouri 11 years ago and now me for nearly 4 years. Yesterday I took my car for an oil change and asked them to check out some things that just weren't sounding or feeling quite right. The y did a thorough diagnostic evaluation and arrived at the conclusion that my car is nearing the end of its useful life. Duane called and gave me the bad news gently like a doctor about an ailing family member. Here is where they could have had me spend a bunch of money and I would never have questioned it - but instead he repeated simply that any money I might spend with them on this car would be better spent toward the purchase of my next car. He encouraged me to check with Ford and other sources (salvage yard) to confirm the cost of a complete repair and explained clearly that while it might be done, it couldn't be guaranteed and would cost much more Than the car is worth and this is why they would not take on the job. This is a trustworthy family owned and operated business. They will have my business for years to come. read more

The guys at Laurel Heights are great to work with. I hit a deer two days before my family's vacation and had it sent straight to them. Not only did they repair all of it while I was on vacation they made sure I enjoyed my beach vacation and handled the communication with my insurance company. I only had minimal communication with them and my insurance company when on vacation as they worked together to get us all squared away! I wouldn't take my car anywhere else and really appreciate those guys going the extra mile for me!! read more

It's hard to find an honest auto shop. So far, Laurel Heights has been really fair to my wife and I ... on at least two occasions they have gone beyond the norm and have found cheaper (but just as effective) ways to repair issues with our vehicles. We have taken our cars there on 6 occasions so far and were happy each and every time. I'll continue to update this posting as we visit through time. read more

Did they do a sound job of replacing the starter? Yes, however, they price gouged the starter and said the verbal estimate given over the phone did not occur. When I brought this to their attention I was told, this is "how I make money... off of parts." Seriously? You make your real money off labor. They charged $165.00 for a remanufactured starter that literally cost $74.00 a block down the road, but what s worse??? They DID NOT honor their estimate AND they did additional work to the car without authorization. This is why I go to places like Tires Plus... at least they are held to standardized costing. Ridiculous. I will NEVER go there again and I ll tell everyone I come across not to as well. I learned a valuable lesson. GET IT IN WRITING! read more
