The hotel originally closed due to a fire in 1971, but it reopened in 1978. The hotel came under new ownership in 2013 and had a brief shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant space was leased out in 2023 and reopened as Biancoverde at Hotel Mac. [Check in]: Our party had one of the most interesting hotel check-in experiences. I originally booked through the Capital One Travel portal. Unlike other standard hotels, this hotel has no front desk. Guests planning to arrive outside of normal check-in hours are supposed to receive an email within 24 hours before arrival with check-in instructions and an access code. The hotel does not allow check-in after 12 AM and the room is ready at 3 PM. Our party arrived at the Hotel Mac at 8:45 PM only to realize that the front entrance (Washington Ave) is for the restaurant (Biancoverde) while the side entrance (Cottage Ave) is for hotel lodging. I pushed the "Ring for Manager" button but received no immediate response. After waiting for two minutes, a lady got out of her parked car on the street and said that she had been out and heard the doorbell ring. [Issues with check in]: Apparently the manager said she was unable to send me instructions by phone or email because I booked through Capital One Travel and the platform didn't show my actual email and phone number. Once I gave the manager my phone number, I received the full instructions. It was not until this moment that I realized our party was going to stay in the Hotel Mac Annex rather than the actual Hotel Mac. Our party had no trouble getting into the Hotel Mac Annex as the entire check-in process was contactless. The building's front door code, room code, location of the annex, location and entry codes for the designated parking lot, and Wi-Fi password were provided by text. [Parking]: The parking lot right next to the Hotel Mac restaurant is for restaurant customers only. The actual hotel parking lot is a gated lot just steps away (21 Washington Ave) with a gate entry code and a separate pedestrian gate code. [Price]: Approximately $185 per night for a queen bed at the Hotel Mac Annex (36 Railroad Ave). [Experience]: I was able to hear railroad sounds, so I recommend not leaving the window open. Our party could not hear much outside noise once the windows were closed and the hotel also provided disposable earplugs next to the bed. The old-school central AC controls was functional and the room was nice & cool at 70°F. The shower water pressure was good and the water was hot. It would have been nice if one of the bottles had been labeled as body wash or conditioner. Hang the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door to skip housekeeping service. The text message included a number to text for any issues. No microwave, but there was a K-Cup machine. The hair dryer and mini-fridge were in the drawers and the room also had a small TV. The text message also included a website about what to do while visiting Point Richmond ( https://www.pointrichmond.com/ ) and Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park was at the top of the list of recommended places to visit. [Check-out]: Check-out is at 11 AM. I went back to the Hotel Mac and pushed the "Ring for Manager" button for check-out. The manager popped her head out of a window above and said that I did not have to do anything for check-out and can just simply leave. [Conclusion]: The one word to describe this hotel is charming. This hotel pays attention to small details from the towels, toilet paper (yes you heard that correctly), mirrors, vase, bookshelf, bathrobes, etc. There was a slight noise issue from the railroad, but once the window was closed it became a non-issue. The room was a bit small, but it had all the essential items. Overall, it was a pleasantly positive and memorable stay.

You're almost transported to an old spot in Virginia City, but it's in the Bay Area. The entrees are savory, the drinks are strong, and staff are attentive. Very welcoming restaurant, except when it's super quiet right after the holidays, live music may not happen. One day, I want to stay here and have breakfast in bed or simply walk downstairs. The owners are both helpful and kind and made our stay the restful experience we had hoped for. The location is peaceful and quiet but with easy access to Marin, Berkeley and Oakland, and San Francisco. A perfect place to stay for anyone in the Bay Area for short-term or long-term work. It was more than we could ever have imagined. We enjoyed the most perfect autumn weather. So that was an absolute stroke of luck. Tides were in our favor and the boat trip to and from the islands were comfortable. Innkeepers Danielle and Rae (seven months new to this gig) are/were incredible hosts, tour guides, chefs, and comics. We were the only guests spending two nights and so glad we opted for that. Enjoyed a beautiful view from our second-story room - West Brother Island and the raucous comings and goings of the island birds was incredible. Breakfast, happy hour, and dinner were more than enough and so delicious. And we enjoyed the company of other guests - many Bay Area locals but also from San Diego and Illinois. If you're a wildlife and nature lover, put this a the top of your list. Not only a wide range of birds, but also Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, and Harbor Porpoise were seen on our visit.

We stayed here last night, and again tonight. 2 nights is NOT enough. I want to live here. I cannot wait to return. This is such an amazing gem, that I am hesitant to yelp about it, for fear it will be too hard to book in the future. However, I did find this place through yelp, and will return the favor to others. If you are looking for a place to book in Inverness or Point Reyes, you MUST book this place. It was worth every single penny. This cottage is in the middle of an enchanted forest, and I never want to leave! The owner, Wendy is so sweet, and communication was great. It was a breeze to book it. This morning, while I sipped my coffee on the gorgeous deck, I was half expecting a fairy to come say hi.

But, then...when we arrived late on Saturday night, spent the night and then the morning of Sunday, we wished we would have arrived earlier and stayed longer. The true magic lies in this place. We loved this house! every corner of it, it is a very comfortable place and your friends or group of people will feel like home. It is a very functional house, whenever you need something (like a bottle opener) you turned around and there you go, you find it. It's clean and organized plus the cleaning fee is included which makes your life easier. It worked really well for me, with a group of single people and a couple. Overall the place is quaint and charming and has everything you'll need for a quiet getaway. If you're looking for luxury or perks, this isn't the place you're looking for. But if you need a comfortable bed, fireplace, and kitchen and you want to be surrounded by nature (especially deer!) then check it out! Really affordable for the area as well.

Breakfast is being served in room and dinner by special arrangement with the chefs. Well, it isn't the same place, but it's wonderful all the same. The chef/owners from Manka's Inverness Lodge have moved down the road to an old farmhouse they are calling "M2" and transformed it into a quietly elegant little inn. The rooms are beautiful; sort of like Ralph Lauren meets George Sand. There are three rooms, and we stayed in one with a huge canopied 4-poster. It had a lovely view of Tomales Bay and this rainy weather made it the perfect cozy retreat (and no phones or TV made it easy to imagine it might be 1907 rather than 2007 --- very "Somewhere in Time"). While the rooms are lavishly filled with antiques, the paint on the walls is barely dry and all the mattresses and bedding are totally new, which is good for a neat freak like me. The bathrooms are a treat, too, with giant clawfoot tubs and sparkling fixtures. The colors and tones are all very subdued and there isn't a Victorian floral pattern anywhere. Very tasteful. The really cool part concerns the food. Since a fire destroyed the old Lodge and dining room, in the new place, you can only get dinner service if you are an overnight guest (and the old cabins are still available too, for those of you who prefer a more red-and-black-plaid rustic experience). I almost can't believe I've already been able to enjoy the same delectable food I thought I might never get to taste again. That was some sentence. I just mean that since the fire, and not knowing if or when Manka's would be rebuilt, I was seriously worried that it was gone forever. But upon coming downstairs for dinner all fears were vanquished. For the cocktail hour we were greeted with a choice of hot mulled cider or a glass of wine, then oysters, and my favorite, what I call "cheesy puffs," or what the French call gougeres. Wow! The dining area is in two rooms, one containing a huge fireplace with beautiful stonework, and grills for cooking. It's lined with colorful, graphic prints of different varieties of mushrooms, and from the other room you can look outside to see the Chef pull crab out of the big pizza oven. That smoky crab was fantastic, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Both rooms have a view of Tomales Bay and have a very relaxed, elegant feel. Dinner started with a mussel soup made with leeks and wild onions, bits of tomato and a wonderful aromatic broth. Truly delicious, and I'm not even a fan of mussels. A plate of the most heavenly dinner rolls was brought to our table and they were so light they almost floated away. I'm not kidding; these rolls were right out of the oven and reminded me of the best of Thanksgivings. The old Manka's served a variety of breads, mostly the whole wheat, sourdough type, and I thought those were good until I tasted these rolls. Then came the crab that had some spicy rub on the outside that of course got all over your hands when you tried to extricate it from the shell. Go with the flow and lick your fingers along with the crab, it's fantastic. Just as I was saying to my companion "I'm going to need a bath when I finish this crab," our waiter set a dish of hot towels on the table. Perfect timing. There was a small salad of watercress and baked sheep milk's cheese that was not very flavorful, but after the spicy crab, maybe that was understandable. No complaints about the pork loin, though; perfectly cooked and accompanied by mashed potatoes and a bit of bacon they cured themselves. The pork was great, the bacon even better. I suppose I should mention I had a white burgundy and also tried a pinot noir, both of which were enjoyable. For dessert I will quote the menu: "A Crisp of Spring's First Rhubarb, Dotted with Rosa's White Raisins, Crowned with Costal Cream To Your Heart's Delight," which was served in an amusing fashion. Because the dining room is made up of lodgers only, cocktails started at 7 and dinner service started at 8. We all got our courses at roughly the same time, and when they brought out dessert, a waiter would place the fresh-from-the-oven rhubarb crisp down, and the maitre 'd followed behind, bearing a large bowl of whipped cream. He brandished a large spoon and was happy to dollop as much whipped cream as you wanted on your crisp. It was just funny to watch him go from table to table, leaving delighted diners in his wake. I was pleasantly surprised to find the rhubarb had a very cherry-like flavor to me, and I managed to eat every last bite. I must say the service all evening was prompt, friendly and refreshing. Perhaps because this dining room is about half the size of the old one, they are able to be more attentive. Our waiter was very cheerful and happy to answer all our questions about the new location. I decided to do little overnight by myself and get away from the East Bay. I found this tiny…read more"bungalow" (shack, actually, but luxurious) on AirBNB. It was clean and very charming, tucked away behind the literal garden path in this surfer compound at 12 Wharf Road. There was a chicken coop on the way to the outhouse! The chickens kept me company with their soft clucking. The outhouse was state of the art with a flush toilet, electric lights, and a nice little sink. After a dinner at the Coast Grill I took a walk along the lagoon inlet at dusk and dipped my toes into the beach sand. I knocked off two stars because the wifi flaked out repeatedly, and they forgot to provide drinking cups. Also the outdoor toilet could be a frustration in the rainy season, and there was no bath or shower. However I wanted to give them five stars because I loved the place.
