The Good: No valet parking! Always a positive in my book. The Service. One of the entrees was cool, not even warm. Told the server and they prepared a new plate in short order. And they didn't just stick it in the microwave either. The not-as-good: Prices were high for the quality. Had the fish and chips and it was soggy. The cup of gumbo was small and I have had better. And the ???? As we were leaving, there were two 4-5 year old little girls playing in front of the door. They were cute and I had no problems with them playing. My boss's birthday just passed. I had an extra Groupon for 30 bucks at Laurenzo's, so what the heck?! Why Not?! The host sat us promptly, food was out fast and hot, and our waiter was absolutely wonderful. This time a third co-worker tagged along. Laurenzo's is keeping its previous score I gave last time. Not only did it meet my expectations, they actually went higher in my opinion. I can honestly say I haven't experimented much with ground turkey and can't say I've had a Turkey Burger before. The kitchen staff could not have prepared it any better! It was absolutely delicious. I'm not one to ever indulge in fried food, but the fries here are amazing! We were treated with great service and had twenty minutes to spare after lunch. Just how I like my lunch breaks. Try to get here before noon though. I'll start with the fact that the food, as always, was fantastic. We have never had a bad meal at Laurenzo's. They are serving a limited menu but a lot of the faves! Our waiter was wonderful as well. I needed out of the house......bad. We went to Laurenzo's - assuming all safety protocols would be followed. This is the Laurenzo family. A Houston institution. We had our masks on - Check! We walked up to the front door - proper signage - Check! We got to the Host stand - temperature is checked - Check! We are taken to a booth, this is when we start to feel uncomfortable and should have left or asked for a different table - as it was in between two other occupied booths. Okay, we can do this. We spend most of dinner very uncomfortable and amazed at the lack of social distancing between the booths. There should have been an empty booth between each occupied booth. The topper for us was the table of 7 that grew from 2 - 3 people to 7 when we left. It looked like a holiday celebration. We won't be back for a while - which sucks. Yes, we should have spoken up and/or just left as soon as we felt like protocols were out of whack. That's on us. But, Laurenzo's......do better. Don't halfway do it. read more

I'm excited to try this location again and will replace this review based on my new experiences. Very interesting restaurant with a fun vibe and character! Our server was able to give the full backstory of the creation of the restaurant and why they serve steaks, Italian, and Mexican food That being said, the food was very mediocre, especially for the price! The prime rib ($46 for 16oz) looked nothing like I expected. For medium rare it looked completely uncooked and was very very fatty. The taste was meh and I had a stomach ache that lasted through the next morning after eating half of it. Another member of my party got the redfish which had bones (not sure if intentional in the type of dish but he was not expecting it). The other two members of our party got the chicken parm which was good but nothing spectacular. A meal for two with a few drinks will run you well over $100. We showed up sometime around noon. I was very happy that we were seated immediately; brunch can sometimes make restaurants get backed up (have you ever tried to get in at the Hobbit Cafe at noon? Good luck!). The hostess and our waiter were both very nice, and our tea never went empty. The first thing I noticed was that the printed brunch menu was really different than the one that's online. I believe the printed one that you get in your menu is correct. The brunch hours are 11 am - 3 pm, not noon to 4. Everything comes on an English muffin, not jalapeno cornbread. Also, the top of the printed menu says everything comes with two crepes and mascarpone. I think someone forgot to add grits to the end of that sentence. I am somewhat of a grammar nazi, but I think this is just confusing. We started out with spinach and artichoke dip. It comes with tortilla chips (of course), some red salsa and a little ramekin of sour cream. My boyfriend and I both tried about three bites before we both said (almost at the same), "This is kinda bland." After adding a little salt, the flavor was much more pleasant, but really...how do you make something like spinach and artichoke dip bland?? However, we still finished the whole thing...hehe. After this, we ordered Eggs Lake George (for me) and Eggs La Cienega (for the boyfriend). Both of us just went crazy over what we had. The asparagus on mine was PERFECT; not too crunchy, not too mushy. I skipped the hollandaise that came with it and had no regrets. There was a ton of flavor in the pico without being too spicy and the eggs were perfectly done without being greasy (obviously, since they were poached). Boyfriend thought his steak was done very well, and everything was seasoned exceptionally. ESPECIALLY those grits. I could eat an entire bowl for breakfast, but I'm pretty sure I'd be in a coma for the rest of the day. If you're ever here for brunch, try them! Laurenzo's Restaurant is located inside the 610 loop, just south of I-10 (the Katy Freeway) on Washington Ave. The restaurant serves delightful food using tried-and-true family recipes dating back generations. The Laurenzo family has a deep tradition of serving the best quality food and providing great customer service. Everything is fresh, made daily from scratch and with the magic touch that only a Laurenzo can provide. You can't miss Laurenzo's Restaurant; the name is printed in large letters right on the side of the building. A beautiful wooden façade with plenty of windows faces the street. The architecture has character and there's a charming little canopy as you walk through the entrance. I am a sports fan and love my hometown Houston sports as well as my Texas Aggies, so I was delighted to see a ton of memorabilia all over the place. And, to you Longhorn fans, or any other school for that matter, there's no discrimination here - I saw memorabilia from all schools. The server told me that much of it is for sale with proceeds being donated to your favorite non-profit. What a cool concept! You can come to Laurenzo's, get a nice, juicy prime-rib, an autographed Earl Campbell jersey and they will donate the proceeds to my favorite charity? Hmmmm, sounds like a win, win, win! Well, let the games begin! We headed up to the bar to try out a couple of their specialty cocktails: the Prickly Pear Margarita and Moscow Mule. Both were wonderful choices, especially the Prickly Pear Margarita - a delicious starter for sure. They also have an extensive wine selection and serve a number of Top Texas Craft Beers. We moved on to the very spacious dining area, thinking to myself this would be a perfect place for groups. After a look at the extensive menu, I saw it was going to be a tough choice deciding what to eat; I just wanted to devour everything on it. We decided on a couple of Top Texas Craft Beers, namely, Karbach's Hoppadillo IPAs. Along with the great craft beer, we ordered a couple of apps: the Crab Cake and the Spinach & Artichoke Dip. First, the Crab Cake: colossal lump crab which is lightly breaded, then pan fried and served with Remoulade Sauce. I don't think I have ever seen a crab cake with so much actual crab meat. Usually there is more cake than crab, but not here... so amazing! Laurenzo's Spinach & Artichoke Dip, a unique and tasty version of an old favorite, is served with homemade chips and salsa. I topped the chips with the dip, salsa and sour cream. So good! I had noticed something unique on the menu and just had to try it: Blackened Prime Rib Pizza. This delicious pizza was built with spicy blackened prime rib, mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil. The crust was made from scratch and absolutely divine. The prime rib was sliced thin and laid across the pie, so you get to enjoy it with every bite. Wow! Now, I had heard big things about the creamed corn they serve here at Laurenzo's Restaurant. It seemed kind of weird to me; I mean, I like creamed corn, but wasn't sure how something so ordinary could be so special. Well, I ate those words - almost as quickly as I ate the best creamed corn I have ever had! They roast the fresh corn and take it right off the cob; there are even a few darkened kernels which give it a bit of a crunch. This delicious side wouldn't be a bad entrée if you just doubled it up. Ha! The creamed corn is definitely something you need to try on your visit Laurenzo's. Finally, it was time for dessert! We ordered the Key Lime Pie with whipped cream (mandarin, lime confit, and a graham cracker crust) and the Italian Cream Cake, a four-layer amaretto and pecan cake with mascarpone frosting. Unbelievable! Just another prime example of the awesome "from scratch" cooking here. Although the crust on the Key Lime pie meshed perfectly with the filling, it should at least be tasted by itself. What a fine dessert! As for the Italian Cream Cake, it was chock-full of nuts and had that perfect mascarpone frosting: thick and creamy, but not too sweet. I felt like I might have died and gone to heaven. My visit here at Laurenzo's Restaurant was nothing short of amazing. I understand it is owned by the same family that brought us the El Tiempo, another favorite of mine which we'll be featuring soon. For now, I say farewell to the Laurenzo family and this great experience - but you can bet that I will be back! Back for lunch, happy hour, dinner, brunch... Ha! My experience here was great. All the food I tried was amazing. The French fries are good my sister let me have some of hers. I loved my tomatillo enchiladas!! The service was good. This restaurant family opened the original ninfas so they have good Mexican food. They definitely have a wide variety of food selection here. Picky eaters will even find something they like. Blackened Prime Rib - Absolutely delicious. Fries weren't too crispy nor too soft and flavored with just the right amount of seasoning. The ribs were juicy and full of flavor. Kind of orgasmic. Corned Beef Hash with Eggs - Who likes grits? I've never been a big fan of grits until today. Butter and the grits were mixed so well, it was almost as if I were eating mashed potatoes with just a bit of clump. I can't express enough how amazing it was. I had the eggs over hard, which, come to think of it, may have been a bad idea because their corned beef tasted a bit dry so had I ordered the eggs over easy, it would have compensated for the dryness. I added bacon and it was the cherry on top of this plate. The bacon was flavorful and not too salty. Bread Pudding - I'm a big fan of desserts that are hot/warm and cold. Their bread pudding was insanely good. It practically melted in my mouth, while the ice cream cooled off the warmth of the bread. Their strawberry was SOOO good. I know it was just a tiny piece, but it was sweet! That's something I hardly get when you're served fruits with your meal. The service was excellent. Our waiter was helpful with suggestions and made sure we were well taken cared of. However, my only complaint would have to be one of the other waiters while standing near the kitchen was touching the inside of his mouth (as if taking something off his teeth) and afterwards grabbing plates and serving to customers. Usually when we go out for Italian, it's one of two reactions: "that's good but I could have made it at home" OR the elusive "that's phenomenal!"...Laurenzo's was the latter. They even prepared the veal and meatballs to perfection! Pasta's not the only thing they do well either. Bf ordered the fish and he was impressed. We had a great first time experience at Laurenzo's a couple weeks ago. A dear friend took me out for a late birthday dinner on a cold and wet Thursday night. I'm thinking the restaurant was mostly empty due to the weather because our food was great and our server didn't miss a beat. We started with the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were surprisingly delicious. I'm very picky about my crab cakes but they were huge with a little kick of heat. Moving on, the prime rib was one of the best I've had in Houston. The au jus and horseradish cream were the perfect accompaniments but the delectable beef was flavorful enough to stand on its own. I'd skip the mashed potatoes next time though. My friend had some type of pan seared fish and she devoured it. We finished off the meal by ordering the brownie al la mode. I'm a huge sweets girls and this was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Our server was so polite and sweet, he even sent out a complimentary chocolate cake for my birthday. The shrimp and grits are amazing!!! They come served with a grit cake instead of actual grits, but we added a side of their mascarpone grits-------the combination was dangerously good. I'm glad I live far away so that I can't be a repeat offender of abusing those grits! I met a few friends for lunch on a Tuesday the restaurant was busy but inviting. Our server was polite. The restaurant is on Washington Street near downtown and that area is popular. I ordered the salad with grilled chicken and it was fresh and delicious. My friends ordered the lasagne and they loved it. The portions are not small nor are they too big but just right. They have plenty of parking in the front and on the side. The ambiance in the restaurant was busy but it was lunch time on a Tuesday. The server was not rude but before we were even ready to leave he was setting the checks in front of us so I did feel a little rushed. General family consensus was to choose this place for husband's birthday dinner on a Sunday afternoon. My sister-in-law made a reservation for 10 people and we proceeded to head to the restaurant. When we got there, the hostess informed us that she in fact did not have a reservation for us. While she searched the system for our reservation I did quick scan of the restaurant and notice that it was not busy at all. Besides our party, there were only 7 to 10 other patrons in the entire restaurant, so getting a table ready for 10 people should have been a quick and easy task. After 10 minutes of waiting we were seated. A boisterous waiter approached us and took our drink orders. We all perused the menus until he returned. My brother-in-law had a question regarding the pizzas. When he asked what the pizzas were like, our waiter snarkly said, "It's pizza!"-- which was not only rude but lacked professionalism in my opinion. We then proceeded to order appetizers: spinach dip, calamari, and crab fingers. All was good. Then for dinnner we ordered: Salmon and beet salad, red fish and shrimp, chicken pesto sandwich, grilled porkchops, a pizza, a burger, 2 baked potatoes, meatball ravioli and chicken piccata. The food came out in a timely manner. Most of the table enjoyed the food except for me. My chicken piccata was entirely too salty to eat. When I mentioned the waiter he said that the "capers were supposed to be salty". I don't think so. They were way too salty to eat.! No one else had any problems with their food but everyone did mention that they thought the place was mediocre and that we probably won't be back. Not a bad place. It has a stuffy, old money feel to it, but the food is decent. I had a friend take me a few years ago and paid almost $20 for a chicken Caesar salad. Which I thought was a little much. Attended a holiday party this past week and it was held in a room off to the side of the restaurant. This is certainly my favorite restaurant to visit when ever my travels take me to Houston. The environment has the feel of a sports bar so it's not stuffy at all. The menu is quite varied, with amazing steaks and seafood to more casual fare. I would recommend anything prepared over the mesquite fire. But hands down my favorite thing to order is the Prime Rib. It is so flavorful and imparts a little smokiness that I've never had elsewhere. The beef nachos are also a must. On top of the amazing food, they have a fantastic wine selection. read more

Came here for a Christmas party that was buffet style. The atmosphere reminds me of The Godfather if he lived in Texas. Very mobster Italian. Found this restaurant by searching the web for a Sunday Brunch with my sister, looked over the menu and pictures of the location, looked like it was a nice place, we decided to give the resturant a try. WOW!! To our surprise, the atmosphere was pleasant, the wait staff very courteious and attentive. The Server Manager came over to our table to check on us and had a little bit of conversation about the good old days in Houston. Now let's not forget what we really came here for which was Sunday Brunch with Mimosa's. The items on the menu all looked good, had a hard time deciding what to get. I had "The Galvez" which was blackened shrimp over a English Muffin with Poached Benedict Eggs, and a side of grits with Mascarpone. The meal was worth the price which I considered reasonably priced for Sunday Brunch. The Mimosa's were also equally good. The to end our brunch, we had the Strawberry pie split between us. Every meal I've had here has been great and the staff has been fantastic. The lack of a five star rating only comes as a result of the pricing which I think is a bit high. I do like the dark, quiet atmosphere that reminds me of the old Chicago restaurants from my youth. They're known for their prime rib, but they don't carry the stuffy, overbearing attitude of a typical prime rib restaurant. I've never been here where it's too busy, and have always been seated right away. If you need a nice dinner spot without the wait near Washington Ave, give Laurenzo's a try! read more
